oops i got pronutro at London Bridge, there's a South African shop there, so I stopped in on my way to the meetup at the museum of childhood. Seb loves it

pertelote · 06/08/2009 12:20

Hi all. Sorry I didn't get on on Tuesday to wish Edward and Lewis a very happy birthday! Hope you all had a great day.

Oops whatever it is if it can be got at London Bridge I'd be happy to get some and send you... FB me details!

Talking of periods as we seem to be... I know some of you are mooncup users and might be amused by the rather loud conversation I overheard yesterday - clearly a chap working in advertising or the like, "why the f have they put me on the mooncup account, it's a replacement for tampons or something, how am I supposed to know anything about it? there's enough * women in the office they could have given it to them..." Having said that he knew nothing about it he managed to give quite a detailed description of the product and its advantages

Red I also love the attempts at moo... it comes out as pfffff which makes me laugh every time. DD's most reliable animal noise is a snake; she also does quite a good horse and a very feeble lion. She prefers actions though, so snap snap (crocodile) and rumpeta rumpeta (elephant) get a lot of practice! And this week she has started cuddling properly which makes me melt.

Ouch to that night Miamla. Hope you're getting a restful day.

had his one year check this morning. what a farce! really, what is the point of it all other than a tick box exercise?

today i've been told that

-bm has no nutrients at this stage and that its just for comfort

-if its sunny DS needs suncream and a hat on

-his teeth need to be brushed

-he needs to be eating more than just pureed food

etc etc

oh, and they said not to worry if i received a letter/phonecall from them if i took ds to a&e. they couldn't explain why this didn't happen after our trip there a few months ago

its a good job i'm not tired and therefore short-tempered

the funniest answer was when they asked me if i was well. i started listing off ailments and she tried to change the subject

oh, and we should all remember that if our DCs are ill, we should take them to see the GP

FFS!!!!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 06/08/2009 13:15

miamla for you. Some visits are a waste of time.
It reminded me when my sister had her youngest ds (now 5) he had a problem with mucus when born and stopped breathing in her arms. (Long story very traumatic) but after him being in hospital a while and eventualy getting home, she broke her ankle and was in plaster a while. Hv called and she said she needed some help due to ill baby who cried wouldnt eat etc... 2 other dcs and leg in plaster. The hv couldn't change the subject quick enough and went. She has never heard from one since.

Miamla · 06/08/2009 13:25

no1 that's awful! really, serious question.. what is the point of hvs?

Miamla · 06/08/2009 13:26

sambo you poor thing. can you postpone friend if you're not well enough?

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 06/08/2009 13:58

sambo I hope you cancelled you poor thing.

Can I just say I have made the most gorgeous Muffins ever.

Jam Doughnut Muffins.
Think nice warm doughnut, with soft sugar and warm jam. Light and fluffy.Mmmmmmmm

alittlebitshy · 06/08/2009 14:37

miamla sounds even more farcical than H's check up. remember I posted about the shocked look when i said he was still bf?? lol.

TwilightSurfer · 06/08/2009 14:52

BFN...couldn't wait til this afternoon. LOL!
Still doesn't explain the cycle change.

No1 I feel your pain. If AF does arrive tomorrow, my trip to South Georgia is not going to be any fun. Typically the first two days are nightmare-ishly HEAVY. Not the kind of thing you want while in a car 5 hours down and 5 hours back with only two bathrooms in the house we are staying in that might hold 20 family members for the weekend.

Now I'm changing my toon: AF PLEASE HOLD OFF TILL MONDAY MORNING. PLEASE!

TwilightSurfer · 06/08/2009 14:55

Oops DH hasn't agree to any fun side stop for us yet BUT he is taking tomorrow off completely so there's still hope for a stop at Callaway Gardens. We really should hold off on the beach anyway. I've yet to restock my funmoney account so it could potentially wind up being a creditchargetrip. That would only stress me in the end.

Ooooh I'm bored and very hot, and coated in sweet potato
I know he loves it but does he have to spread it lovingly all over me? A well, wouldn't change him

sambo303 · 06/08/2009 15:38

meeting went ok, apparently I said some very sensible things, phew! Been to the park for a quick swing then back as I was feeling wobbly. Ds asleep. He slept 3 hours this morning (9-12) too. Think he's making up for the last 11 months...

pert glad work is not so bad. My ML ends next Tuesday so I'm in to work 3 days then off for 4 weeks parental leave. Feeling apprehensive.

miamla what is this 1 year check? Is is a gp or hv thing? Is it compulsory? At least it gave you a laugh....

no1 pass the muffins

ts I hope your AF wishes are granted

TwilightSurfer · 06/08/2009 16:03

Thanks Sambo Miamla Thank you to you too. T's HV reminded me Reese needed to have one scheduled. She'll see the doc on the 21st. We skipped the 9month check. They don't do anything at 9m's except check weight anyway so no loss....kinda like your 1yr hv, really.

30 minute workout complete. Reese slept through it (see FB mobile uploads). Feels good outside today. I needed the FRESH AIR and MOVEMENT to help me destress in advance, tis a DH family reunion weekend afterall.

ts I forgot when booking holiday that it was on my dates. '
I suppose the only good thing about it coming tomorow is that I have got the first 3 days of dreadfulness out of the way before I go camping. Not much fun in a tent when I am like this.

Gone a little dull hear, and light spots of rain.I am so hot though. Just feeding dcs tea then off to buy a pony

dh was grumpy about it last night, but I do not care at all what he says at the moment. I have listened to everything he has to say against it but seeing as he wants nothing to do with it, then it is nothing to do with him.
sambo hope you get chance to have a rest, and get some strength back.

ann hi, are you still smothered in sweet pot

LoveBuckets · 06/08/2009 18:12

High Fives TS Oops have you discovered the lovely Welsh Chris on Doodle Doo yet? V popular with Mumsnetters iykwim.

Ann Tell your OH that the female version of the snip involves potentially major abdominal surgery and is 10 times less effective than that small procedure which used to be done in GP's offices.

AF finally arrived in the early hours with quite exhausting cramps, haven't been like this since I was a teenager. And I've lost my Mooncup somewhere around the house which means the cleaner has probably found it, with no clue what it is and put it somewhere sensible and potentially embarrassing.

Great all-in-one cake recipe here. I made it in a 7" square tin with banana, coconut and a few chopped dates and it didn't need icing it was lovely and moist.

Miamla · 06/08/2009 18:25

buckets that cake looks lovely!

ooh no1, pony buying sounds v exciting!

sambo not sure if its compulsory, organised by your local clinic

ts congrats on the bfn!
do you know what happens at the 1yr checks over there?

albs yup, remember yours! its such a ridiculous waste of everyone's time

i'm a bit about my mum...she agrees with hv about bm so i'm off to start a thread to get some ammunition facts to prove them wrong

are you all giving your DC cow's milk to drink? surely bm and water is sufficient? no? he has cow juice on cereal and eats cheese, yoghurts etc

Miamla · 06/08/2009 18:31

woo hoo DS is asleep
how long for i wonder??
i feel mean because dp not having his play session with him but ds couldn't stay awake any longer. i just hope he doesn't treat this as a nap!

LoveBuckets · 06/08/2009 18:53

Miamla From all the extended BF debates I've watched online, I'd agree that BM instead of cowsmilk is fine nutritionally, esp if he's getting plenty of dairy by other means.

Dingalingaling! Kurt has some ominous-looking pimples this evening, would be fab to be over the Chicken Pox hurdle so soon, the others had it when he was tiny. We don't go on our West Country Grand Tour til next Friday so he should be non-contagious by then, non? How quickly it all slips out of your brain when you're not looking.

cyteen · 06/08/2009 19:52

Thanks for cake recipe Buckets, I might have make one of those for the journey down to Devon this weekend

oopsacoconut · 06/08/2009 20:06

DD in bed, wild mushroom risotto waiting for DH to get out the bath. We went out to get DH's car this morning and it was lovely then the 'occasional showers' appeared and it has only just stopped raining! We got soaked but DD giggled all the way and got a bit cross when I covered her over.

Miamla - we got DD's 'birthday' card from the HVs today adn it told us DD should be sitting, eating a variety of foods, playing, drinking from a beaker or cup, getting prepared to move onto cows milk and brushing teeth DD is still BF in the morning and late afternoon but full bedtime feeds are still not allowed so she has formula and a BF top up after the feeds to catch up during the early hours. If DS is still only having BF and water then I'm not surprised your periods haven't returned!

Oohhhh BUckets - can you bring us the pox? if that is what it is. I would rather get it over and done with.

Pert - thanks for the offer I will have a think and FB you.

No1 - did you buy the pony?

oopsacoconut · 06/08/2009 20:06

blah spoke to soon - raining again!

LoveBuckets · 06/08/2009 20:34

I guess the point is the babies don't technically need the nutrients from formula now so the HPs want people to switch from that to cow's milk - for dental, cost, calorific reasons. BFing after 1yr is still relatively rare so that would be why the generic advice might not apply to you guys. Even if the BM doesn't have so many nutrients, it's still got to have more in it that cow's milk though surely? They may not know the facts but be making their own deductions from the recommendations. As am I - you can see it goes both ways.

LoveBuckets · 06/08/2009 20:39

Can I just say my kids have been playing soooooo nicely together so far this holiday? The big two were rushing around holding hands on some terribly important adventure this afternoon and at bedtime, the 3 of them were standing in a row in height order on my bed (Kurt holding the bars natch) and DD had wrapped the net curtain round them all so they could be brides.

CaptainCaveman · 06/08/2009 20:44

BM either doesn't contain iron, or babies don't absorb it, after 6 months. That from a trusted friend and colleague (who is a HV by trade). However, she would never advocate that you should be stopped or stopping by 1 yr!

No AF here either. 2 bfs a day - bedtime and first thing in the morning. Regular checks for the bfn though! I seem to recall after I stopped bfing ds1 at 10.5 months, it was still another 3 or 4 months before af showed herself.

VG sorry I missed wishing E a happy 1st birthday - I hope he had a lovely time?

TS and no1 hope your af wishes are granted!
