Enjoying some me time today whilst Ethan sleeps. Just went for 20 minutes swim - lovely without children! village outdoor pool is opposite us so very handy

Quick hello to everyone

DS2's 1st Communion yesterday went very well despite DH refusing to get involved until about 1 hour beforehand, and staying in bed all morning. We didn't have a very spiritual start to the day, with me screaming at him. I'm still pretty pissed off, actually. He did exactly the same thing for Thea's baptism. DS2 enjoyed the day which is the main thing.

I have very stupidly booked DS2's birthday party without checking the football fixtures (such an obvious mistake!) and have booked it to clash with the Cup Final. I don't know what to do and most of the little fuckers children haven't bothered to reply to the invitation. We won't see them before the party date and I don't have all their phone numbers. He is in this odd year group with some lovely children but quite a big contingent of real scroats.

Apart from all that, lovely sunny day here, the girls are both having naps and DH is at the beach with the boys.

Deb I'm impressed at your swimming and tennis, and AH impressed at your "mere" 16 miles! I had to do some clothes shopping on Saturday for something to wear on Sunday. I'm a crap shopper and looked very fat and frumpy so need to follow your excellent examples.

poppy34 · 25/05/2009 18:07

Hi quick post for 5 can you ask hunker on tips for getting them drinking from cups. E is bottle fed and will take water from bottle - also have limited success from doody cup or my cup but it is limited. We try at every meal (and she is on three milk feeds a day morning mud afternoon and night). Am sticking to water and milk . Hunkers thoughts would be good. Also what are her views on when to offer mild chili and soft cheese?

abdnhiker · 25/05/2009 19:51

UDC sorry to hear that your DH was made redundant. I hope you're having a nice time in the states at least.

Rolf since DH did 81 the weekend before, my 16 miles doesn't get me a lot of respect around here I'm pretty pleased with myself though (and my legs were sore this morning).

Five been meaning to ask - how's S's milk intolerance? DS1 just had ice cream for the first time without a reaction which is a big step for us!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/05/2009 19:54

I ahve been converted to facebook as I go farming, thank god it was you as I just randomly stuck in amber and it got you.

Poppy will ask Hunker tonight*

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/05/2009 19:59

Hunkermunker rivals Titktok as the residential breast feeding guru

Sorry double post as on iPhone - udc sorry about your dh. Am impressed with your fitness kick deb. How has luke been Amber and how are you bearing up? Your sister home yet? 5 thanks for asking and sponge how is alex?
Sorry bit tired as came home today from France - was lovely but sticky humid which made for an unsettled night. Arrived back and my mum had sent edie a fisher price garage which is lovely ( I had one too). The only unsettling thing is the mechanic looks like a cross between Leo sayer and benny from crossroads - luckily edie knows how to deal with him and keeps dropping him down the lift shaft in the garage.

pureeandpearls · 25/05/2009 21:02

Checking in with you all after a weekend away....

Adn- 16 miles bloody impressive as I couldn't cycle 16 metres.

Five- I am Amber's friend on FB. Picture of Super Mamma! Sounds like you have the perfect houseguest!

Sybil- Have a fab hols. Cecily is most proud of herself for pretty much everything, but particularly so when she gave DH a pre-emptive kiss when she saw him opening chocolate!

Ali-Hope you had a good Birthday

Whinegums - Sorry about the job

Essie - hope the home-aloning is going better.

Poppy- hope France enjoyable. Have serious garage envy- is it the one with the wind-up lift???? I have given Cecily (no longer babypearls now she is one) Chilli and this is fine though nappies are quite exciting. Assume by soft cheese you don't mean La Vache Qui Rite!

Rolf- so sorry you have such a shit husband day. I have one of those a week and find very helpful just to send text/email telling someone he is 'stupid man tosser person husband', so hope telling us helped!

Deb- solo swim sounds lovely

UDC- good to see you ((hugs))

Sponge/Bill/Splodge- hello.

Did I miss anyone? Amber ((((hugs)))) as ever. Let me know when you are free to come and play....

poppy34 · 25/05/2009 21:09

It is that one and very fun it is too- I have posted a photo of Leo or benny on facebook. Rolf why not buy some plastic toys as revenge for your husbands inertia?
And I meant cheese (but thanks for tip purée - have tried other spices and edie likes them so seemed a natural progression). She tried to eat the cubes of laughing cow equivalent foil and all and was less than impressed when I unwrapped it (she wiped half eaten cheese on dh tee shirt which was a step up as had tried to shove some omelette into his bottle of beer when that wasn't to her liking).

pureeandpearls · 25/05/2009 21:09

[would lik to preface this by saying that I know that I am a grown-up and that this shouldn't affect me and that to feel hurt and left-out is TOTALLY illogical]

Odd incident. Discovered this week that all the other NCT mums were invited to a First Birthday Party last weekend except me, when I was texted a text meant for someone else. Sender later followed this up with apology saying she didn't have enough invites. I didn't invite them to either birthday or Christening so know that I shouldn't expect anything but at a further party this afternoon I felt excluded because they were all talking about last weekend and the particular mother was awkward and cold-shouldery around me.

No need to respond. Just wanted to get it off my chest. Feel quite sad. Silly isn't it- thought the teenage bitchiness had been left behind years ago.

pureeandpearls · 25/05/2009 21:11

x-post Poppy! Off to check FB for Leo/Benny but think plastic-toy-revenge is genius

Amberc · 25/05/2009 21:21

Hi all, wow hasn't it been quiet on here the last few days? Five - thanks very much - you'll notice the absence of post baby photos of me as I'm afraid sleepless nights and baby weight mean I don't look anything like I used to! Thanks anyway though - made my day!

ooh - I'd also like advice on getting Luke to drink milk from a cup. He drinks water realy well but milk comes from a bottle and only a bottle as far as he's concerned! By the way he's on Hipp Organic growing up milk now and I must say it tastes gorgeous! I have been glugging the left overs

Does anyone else have a complete nightmare trying to brush their baby's teeth? Luke hates it and screams blue murder. I have resorted to pinning his arms down and cleaning them (all two of them!) with a muslin. He has got top teeth coming through, I can see a shard. More teeth to try and polish!

Hi UDC!

Rolf - love the use of the word scroat - very underused derogatory term if you ask me!

Aberdeen 16 miles - wow!

Luke has learned to climb onto the sofa and he's also learned to get down again. That child is fearless. I have to watch him non stop. He's always covered in bruises 'cos he's exploring everything and usually ends up splat on the floor. He's also very interested in things which open and close. He locked his fingers in a cupboard door which I knew would happen eventually. One nice thing he's become interested in is those touchy feely books. He loves them - especially furry doggies! He is very cute at tthe mo!

Hi everyone I've not mentioned hope you all had a nice bank holiday weekend. x

pureeandpearls · 25/05/2009 21:28

Don't talk to me about teeth....have found a similar pinning-down method is the only way, briefly, then to give her the toothbrush before her screams reach top A and she smashes all the glass in the house!

Amberc · 25/05/2009 21:28

Leo/Benny -confused...

Puree - I would have been pissed off too. It was probably rubbish anyway

I should be out to play soon - my part time role should start in the next few weeks. Boss has chosen a replacement - hurrah!

I really want to have a 1st birthday party but I don't think I know enough people! Also I don't have a garden.

Poppy - Luke is still not sleeping well - he wakes up at 5 or earlier now for the day God bless him. My sister is home. She had a couple of extremely bad days but seems to have perked up a little now thankfully, thanks for asking hun.

poppy34 · 25/05/2009 21:31

I have toothbrush she chews on I think I got it from mojo maman be be which she likes as seems to help teething- also have taken to cleaning mine as she likes to copy.

Rolf · 25/05/2009 21:36

Poppy I love your revenge idea!

Puree I've just seen some lovely 1970s garages on ebay. I really like them but not sure about getting something 2nd hand when Thea's still at the stage of putting everything in her mouth. I'd have felt the same way about the party, btw .

Amber love to your sister.

Hello to everyone else
