jenwa · 08/03/2009 12:27

aubergenie fab, thank you will have to go and get some and good idea about the glass too, mine is minging

Liking the idea MM and myjob re when taking control of money, will have to find out about that as dont want dd's spending on all sorts!

jenwa · 08/03/2009 12:28

CSWS - just watched your video of D blwing. Um, yes, no question he was ready! Wow!

This is a description of croup HMM, but it is slightly more than a bad cough. It's not very nice at all. Oh and ha ha, yes funny how I sound like a financial advisor eh?

Heather - poor DC. Croup is so nasty, I hope they're both better soon.

Myjob - Maybe she wants some broccoli?

We've got horrible colds here today so M is covered in snot and feeling very sorry for herself.

Wow csws! Brave! I have to admit that I'm scared to death to give Q food other than milk! I want to try some baby rice but worry about how he will react to it. What if he chokes? What if I don't give him enough of the stuff he needs and then he suffers lack of nutrients because he's taking less milk? I know this sounds psychotic, but I guess I am .

star6 · 08/03/2009 16:56

OH LOL! I read that so quickly and thought you were going to try Naomi with chicken, myjob!! Ha!

How the hell do you all get time to cook/ bake??? It makes me realise just how high-maintenance Poppy is!!!

HMM I don't cook or bake much either - DH does it all. I do on occasion if it's easy and quick or something DH doesn't want (like Quinoa ). I LOVE Quinoa. I like bland things, though. I never use salt for cooking (nor does dh) or add salt to anything but recently put soy sauce on some tofu I made... it was yummy, but really worried about sodium content in that. I wonder if too much gets into the breastmilk?
I've never been a big wine drinker, but for some reason I'm craving a big glass of wine! I think it's because I haven't had any in 14 months.
lol about N and the food myjob! Q doesn't care what is in his hands, he puts EVERYTHING into his mouth... I'm sure he'd do the same with food!

Honeymoonmummy · 08/03/2009 19:26

I like your new FB photos Star! I see you took your relatives to Buck Palace in the end...

Yes but you're woorking Star which is even more incredible than cooking/ baking! Poppy barely lets me make toast if I'm on my own, I spend bathtimes getting the medicines ready and feed her to sleep then am too knackered to do anything other than essential housework! Good job DH can cook!!

star6 · 08/03/2009 19:44

Thanks HMM
Can you put Poppy in a sling or carrier and do stuff with her? Does she just not let you put her down? We have a hard time putting Q down as well... he loves to be moving... constantly . I've learned how to do lots of things one handed

Honeymoonmummy · 08/03/2009 19:51

I don't really seem to get the chance to put her in the sling, we have two, a sling and a baby bjorn and have rarely used them. she doesnt like the sling due to her reflux, she seemed to like the baby bjorn but by the time I've kept her upright and still for 30 mins after every feed then going out, for walks etc I never get to use it.

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/03/2009 20:19

Thanks for all the comments on the video. He isn't that co-ordinated always (well, on the handful of occasions that we've given him something), but he seemed quite keen on the broccoli. He didn't really eat much of the stalks, but loved the frilly bits, and his sister hoovered up the stalks instead, as they are her favourite bit.

HMM - couldn't Poppy's 30 mins upright after a feed be in the Baby Bjorn whilst you wander about cooking or going for a walk or whatever?

Glad that you have your answer re weaning myjob .

Star - please don't obsess about the sodium content of breastmilk. Bm will contain salt in just the right proportions for Q, and your liver will quite happily process the salt you eat, given how little it is. We do actually need some salt in our diets.

She'd vomit all over it CSWS. She needs to be still.

Sorry to hear you have a cold Myjob.

star6 · 09/03/2009 08:23

csws - I know we need sodium, I'm just also aware that there is so much sodium in everything that we eat already without adding any to it. You must think I'm a total nutter - it will be a miracle if Q grows up to be a sane man

aubergenie · 09/03/2009 09:10

Wow CSWS - I've just seen your FB video of ds eating. He's so co-ordinated! So, did you just cook the broccoli really well and give it to him like that?

I'm like you Star, nervous about starting with food (you can tell the people who've already got more than one child, so much more relaxed!).

MamaG · 09/03/2009 09:49

Gawd its hard tokeep up with these trheads! I might have to be an annoying poster who pops in and out.

star6 · 09/03/2009 09:53

It is horrible of me to think that our 2 week holiday in April (which both dh and I have at the same time) is going to be difficult... just because dh will be around 24/7?!?!? I know that sounds awful for anyone who has a dh /dp who travels, but it's just so much extra work with him not at work.

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/03/2009 10:36

lol star. Sounds like I used to be when dh would only have an odd week at home and interrupt my routine. Am happier to have him here now we have 2 though! Still no further word on whether he has the work that was mentioned last week.

Aubergenie - I didn't cook the broccoli specifically for ds. It was just some left over from our dinner, so was cooked as we would have it. It was the 'tenderstem' kind, so had a good 'handle' for him to hold on to. It was a spur of the moment decision to give him some (to stop him whining mostly!), hence the lack of a bib.

Just had ds' 3rd lot of jabs. Horrid. But he's now had calpol and a lovely big feed and is being allowed to sleep on my lap as I feel sorry for him.

Star - you've listed the kind of food that you eat, and there's very little in the way of sodium in that tasteless rabbit food very healthy diet . Have you thought about what Q's first food will be? Quinoa is hilarious in nappies .

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 09/03/2009 10:40

I always let M sleep on my lap . Big old rod for my back eh?

pepperrabbit · 09/03/2009 10:43

Morning all,
CSWS - loved the video (do you think it's the most watched video on mumsnet??!) Your DS is exactly a week older than DD and she can't roll yet, let alone sit! She can flip from front to back but only if she's really cross - and it makes her even crosser.
Well, DS1 has 2 definite chicken poxes this morning - like vampire bites on his neck, this is of course just as DS2 has recovered enough to take out again, so we're stuck in still [going stir crazy emoticon!] and I thought DD was OK till I changed her just now - and her bottom and (searches for appropriate word for ladybits for DD) those bits are covered in chicken pox! rest of the baby completely clear? How does that work?
So that's a full house chez pepper for pox.
I'll be online a LOT this week!
And DS2 has a black eye to complement the pox scabs, where he fell over getting in the car yesterday even tho he was holding DH's hand at the time. Poor poppet looks very neglected.
