You have an older one at school don't you MM? I can't get away with ds always sleeping on me when dd is around, as she then feels neglected, as well as me getting nothing done.

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 09/03/2009 10:49

Oh, yes I see why now. I thought you were being very disciplined to avoid bad habits. Even though DS is nearly 6, he still gets jealous! He's such a mummy's boy!

Pepper - Poor DC. At least DD can't scratch too much.

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/03/2009 10:49

Oh poor you (and poor dc too obv) pepper. Dd's first cp spot was just by the waistband of her nappy, so the top kept getting knocked off - ouch. It's the only one that has scarred I think. The spots all round her girly bits (as we call them chez CSWS) did look horrid, but didn't seem to bother her any more than the others.

Ds isn't actually much of a roller. He's only done it a handful of times, although he flips from front to back quite easily (which is most annoying when you're trying to get him to sleep on his tummy).

Marthasmama · 09/03/2009 10:50

Oh and Pepper - DD is one day older than CSWS's DS and she can only just roll. I've been trying to get her to sit up on her own but she just wants to stand up all the time.

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/03/2009 10:52

Am sitting here nervously awaiting a text from a friend to say whether she's had a missed miscarriage or not. Scan was booked for 10:40. Cross your fingers please ladies.

CSWS - fingers crossed for your friend. I'm glad your DD didn't get too many chicken pox scars.I think DS2 will have a couple as some of his were really nasty. Hopefully the 2 vicious looking one's on DS1's neck won't scar - they look just like a vampire bite at the mo!
myjob - looks like Dh sorted the weaning question for you - have fun! I'm a puree and finger foods girl too - but putting off for as long as possible.
star - I find it annoying when DH is home for more than a weekend, we have lots of little routines that he can't know about as he's out from 7-7 every day so he doesn't realise when he confuses them all .
HMM - I barely do toast let alone Proper Cooking!
MM - I'm glad DD's not backward in the rolling sitting dept!
Right, off to do some crowd control.

star6 · 09/03/2009 11:40

Q barely sits but definitely not on his own! We have to be right there to catch him, he's like a weeble wobble.... but he does fall down. He sometimes goes to his side from laying on his back but can't sort out rolling anywhere from his front (you'd think he would have by now, being slept on his tummy most of the time!).
I think he's just lazy and his belly is too chubby to let him move about.
He does grab for toys and put everything in his mouth, though.
He had a brilliant time trying to grab running water yesterday that was hilarious!
Congrats on the banana myjob! What a good idea!
Is there a book out there... no a website would be better... on how to wean? I don't want to screw it up!
CSWS I hope your friend is ok. How scary

star6 · 09/03/2009 11:41

thanks pepper - good to know I'm not alone

star6 · 09/03/2009 12:26

yuck about chicken pox. I'm so sorry for you!!

pepperrabbit · 09/03/2009 12:43

I've used Anabel Karmel's book as my weaning bible - but it's a puree one - if you want to do BLW then maybe CSWS can recommend?
Don't worry about doing it wrong! Mostly it's a case of muddling through - you'll soon know what Q likes and dislikes. Some babies love everything and grow into really fussy eaters (DS1!) and then some love everything and stay loving everything (DS2)Did exactly the same with both of them and they are soooo different.
The trick is - not to blame yourself. Tho maybe if you follow the puree chips regime you'd have to take some responsibility!

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/03/2009 12:55

Just a quickie as about to take dd to school, to say that it was bad news for my friend .

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 09/03/2009 12:58

oh so sorry

Marthasmama · 09/03/2009 13:11

Oh no, how . So sorry for your friend.

Ekka · 09/03/2009 13:11

Oh, so sorry CSWS, what a shame.

Pepper - sorry to hear about the chicken pox, what a nightmare for you! How long do you have to remain in quarantine? Must be driving you mad!

Yay for banana myjob - sounds like N is pretty much ready for weaning. I know the guidelines are 6 months, but lets face it, they are general and I can't see that a few days here or there are really going to make any difference. Lets face it, babies are supposed to stay in the womb for 40 weeks, but how many arrive exactly on time....

Star, I bought loads of books on weaning - the NCT one was good, with plenty of stuff I can use for both baby & family meals (with a little adaption) but if you go into any bookshop there are always millions to browse through. Pick one that seems to give recipes you can see that you might be able to adapt for you as well (saves time). Obviously the first month or so is just basic fruit/veg purees etc, so no adaption required.

Well, we've had a busy weekend. We changed dd's cotbed into a bed and she's loving it, hasn't fallen out yet, and she's also not realised she can climb out . I'm sure it won't be long though... Have baked a cake for dh's birthday tomorrow (dairy free) and am going to decorate it with dd this afternoon. But I am a bit . Ds woke at 6 this mornign and wouldn't settle after his feed so I handed him to dh who got him to sleep finally. Anyway ds woke at 7.30 with a leaky poo and really red bottom. Am rather at myself for not checking more thoroughly as he is really sore... Thank goodness for metanium nappy cream!

Must dash, have a cross ds on his playmat and I need to get lunch.... Will catch up with all the messages later.

Honeymoonmummy · 09/03/2009 17:17

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend CSWS, had she been trying to conceive for a while? I had some bleeding at the early stages myself and altho I was quick to conceive I couldn't bear the thought of losing my special honeymoon baby, I can't imagine how horrible it must be to get that news.

Ooh what's metanium nappy cream Ekka? I always use vaseline and am stiill only usibng water rather than wipes but I noticed she was a bit red before, maybe because she's teething. That's a good point you make re the 40 weeks too.

That's so sweet re your DD and the bed! I'm going to look up the NCT book too, I was previously just planning to get the Annabel Karmel, will it be too much/ confusing to get both?

I had about 4 hours' broken sleep last night. Had a good chat with the HV this morning and she's suggested I need to put her in her cot when she's still awake, rather than feed her to sleep and to get DH to do it as she's getting too dependent on me. She's the best HV I've seen to date so I respect her advice and she knows about the reflux etc, but I can't see it working, will give it a go tho. She said to try to put her in cot in the day at the same time to try get her into daytime naps too. What do u all think? Any words of advice?

Been DF (apart from 2 suspect scampi incidents) for 2 weeks on Weds, I'm not noticing a discernable difference ... I'm going to carry it on anyway as it really doesn't take much effort.

aubergenie · 09/03/2009 17:32

So sorry to hear about your friend CSWS. I've been there - not nice.

Marthasmama · 09/03/2009 19:44

Hmm - Metanium cream is a God among nappy creams! It clears up any sign of nappy rash in hours! When DD was newborn she got terrible nappy rash that bled when touched. We used Bepanthen (sp?) for two weeks and it got a little better. Then the HV recommended metanium, within three days her bottom was clear. I shall be looking forward to hearing from you as to whether the day time nap thing works. M still only sleeps on me during the day and I have to feed her to sleep at night. DS had three daytime naps from 5 months. I just popped him in his cot, he'd chat for a while then doze off. No chance of that with M! I've always been told that boys are more clingy than girls but that is definately not the case with my two!

ronshar · 09/03/2009 20:43

Watch grow your own drugs. It is BBC2. On now. They are doing Excema creams tonight. i watched it last week. It appeals in the inner hippy in me

CSWS, So sorry about your friend. Ive been there. Hell on this earth was the whole experience.

Marthasmama · 09/03/2009 21:23

Aubergenie & Ronshar - I'm so sorry to hear you lovely ladies have been through that.

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/03/2009 21:48

hmm - she has a dd the same age as mine, got married last year, and got pg within 2 or 3 months of trying I think, but obv would already have had a sizeable age gap, and she doesn't want it to be too huge. She had a dating scan 2 weeks ago, as she wasn't sure if she was 8 or 12 weeks, but they dated her at 6 weeks (no heartbeat yet) and told her to go back 2 weeks later (meant to be tomorrow). Since then she's had a bit of light bleeding, so went to A&E over the weekend, and they re-arranged the scan for today. I've also been there prior to having dd .

hmm - did this hv acknowledge the fact that Poppy is at an age where growth spurts and night waking are very common, and that she may genuinely be hungry? Did she say that you shouldn't feed her overnight at all, or just to limit the number of times?

Am disappointed to hear that df hasn't made a difference for you so far hmm. Am not sure whether to hope for a change soon or not, as if there is one then obv she will need to be df when weaning too, which can be a bit of a pain!

If you want to do blw star (or even if you just want some ideas for finger food) then Aitch's site is great. There's only one book on blw, which is by Gill Rapley. I haven't read it, but it is apparently quite good if you are the sort that likes a book rather than trawling through a website.

Yes to peeled cucumber myjob. Ds had a suck on some yesterday - nice and cool for his gums . He didn't really eat much of it, but didn't like it being taken away!
