Read the article. DD has had all her jabs now, still don't know whether she'll have the MMR in a years time.

jenwa · 26/02/2009 10:34

MM yes, I keep thinking, wow how did they know them etc. It is a small world and FB just shows you how small. Also you do have to be sooo careful on there.
I have a few pics blocked for just family or certain friends etc as just dont know what some people are like.
I remember hiding my pic as clients from work were searching me and thats not good.
Also paranoid about people seeing what my children look like and if my status said I was going somewhere they may follow me etc. Sorry I always think the worst so am so careful on there now. I did delete alot of friends who were not really friends and I did not want them on there just for the sake of it. I think it was fun to begin with adding liads of people then you realise that you dont actaully really have anything to do with them!

Sorry that was a mammoth post.

Honeymoonmummy · 26/02/2009 10:42

If you find CSWS on FB I'm her friend. My initials are EE How exciting! Can't wait to see what you all look like!!!

yes, email me on here... if possible. CAT?
I emailed csws... did you get that? I can't wait to see what you all look like, too!

jenwa I'm laughing so hard... I never put where I'm going on my status because i'm worried about the EXACT SAME THING!

Honeymoonmummy · 26/02/2009 10:47

My friend needs help guys!! Just got this msg from her.

Need to get this off my chest so I can go back upstairs and carry on and not just get in the car and drive away (!) although with the c-scar that might be a bit dangerous. DS very jaundiced for 2 days and therefore slow starter feeding wise and very sleepy. He picked up yesterday though and fed every 3 hours and is much more active which is a good thing (I have to keep reminding myself). It means it will clear the bilirubin left in his system much faster.
Bad news is that left nipple cracked under the strain at 3pm feed and last 3 feeds have all been off the other side which is now also sore and empty. On top of that milk coming in and boobs massive, lumpy and very sore and tender. Called Ward 23 and they say I must persevere and feed from the cracked side next (half an hour to go-ish) and it will help the engorgement too.
I JUST NEED TO KNOW THAT I AM NOT ALONE AND YOU HAVE ALL BEEN THROUGH SIMILAR THINGS TOO.... AND COME OUT OF THE OTHER SIDE.

I've not had cracked nipples - Star dont you use nipple shields? What's the name of that lettuce??

star6 · 26/02/2009 10:47

maybe we should make a "private group" on facebook?
Does anyone know how to do that? I'm not great with all of that. I don't think I can add until 4pm when I get home as they've blocked fb at school. Somehow I can get on MN talk, though

star6 · 26/02/2009 10:52

cabbage.
I tried nipple sheilds, but it stretched the nipple so much it hurt more. I didn't use them to feed. Tell her to get Silverette mini cups... well worth the money!!! I still wear them just to heal up any minor cuts and so that my nipples don't stick to the breast pads/bra.
I can TOTALLY relate to cracked nipples!! It is horrid and I had it for a bit more than 12 weeks severely, with thrush...etc... now it's better. I'd be happy to email/talk to your friend if she would like. It gets loads better and it hurts to feed from cracked nipples, but you can do it. Lansinoh also and air drying. ALSO, the breast shells (Avent) are GREAT. They allow them to sort of air out and milk collects in the cup and its soft around breast, but nothing touches the nipple... those are a godsend for first part of cracks/cuts..etc. They make your boobs like enormous, but that was a bonus for me! ;)

Honeymoonmummy · 26/02/2009 10:52

Baby was born 24 Feb, 10 days late, first child. Poor thing was planning HB but it went out of the window apparently.

Marthasmama · 26/02/2009 11:03

Your poor friend. I know how she's feeling. DD was very jaunidiced and we had to take her to the Special Care baby unit. She wouldn't latch on properly either and my nips were bloody agony. One was practically a scab! I tried to power through but ended up crying through most feeds. In the end my lovely midwife came round, helped me to get her latched on and generally calmed me down. Once she was on properly it didn't hurt as much so your friends bub might be having trouble latching on.

I have definately survived it. DD was so skinny at 5 days old but now she's a big fat porker. I am still exclusively breast feeding too. I didn't use nipple shields with DD as I hated using them with DS. If your friend is still under the care of the midwives, she should get someone round. Just having some to help can calm you down and give you the strength to carry on. It will get better for her.

HTH

Honeymoonmummy · 26/02/2009 11:03

Did the cabbage work for you? I'm not sure it did much for me

Marthasmama · 26/02/2009 11:05

that should say someone. I am feeding and typing & after that long one handed post my shoulders ache!

jenwa · 26/02/2009 11:28

star how do I do that? Where do I email you /CAT you???

I knew you would think the same as me star how funny, we are the same!!!

Honeymoon just added you, your poor friend. I had mastitis and it was awful. You do have to feed from that side and put a warm cloth on it whilst you do as it helps break down the lumps (soaked muslin in hot water worked well)

star we can create a group for us so I can try it later if you like.

star6 · 26/02/2009 11:30

cabbage - no
silverettes mini cups - godsend
avent breast sheilds/cups (?name?) not nipple sheilds - also godsend.
lansinoh - did its job.
I have expressed several bottles of pink milk (which I discarded of course!) and would DREAD feeds for many many weeks... although this didn't interfere with my bonding with Q at all... just hurt to feed! I had milk blisters, cuts, everything... was horrid. But I survived and now he still only gets breastmilk (bottle when away from me and bf when with me).

jenwa · 26/02/2009 11:33

star is that you who just requessted friend request? SP????
Oh its so cryptic!!!!

jenwa · 26/02/2009 11:34

I should so log on earlier to stand any chance of catching up with this thread!
jenwa I think I've messaged you on facebook so I can join the gang there (begging emoticon)
trapped indoors with DS2 and the dreaded chicken pox, actually he seems fine and has only got about 5 more spots than yesterday -i thought he'd be truly spot-tastic this morning
CSWS sounds like a horrific night - do you get any chance to rest today if DD is at pre-school?
I just had a call for another set of jabs for DD - but she's had all of them! The clinic seem to be out of sync with my surgery - luckily I know she's had them all - but imagine if you just trusted them and trotted along for every appt they called you to!

aubergenie · 26/02/2009 12:16

You've all been so chatty!

CSWS - What an awful night. Is Duncan in with you rather than the amby all the time now? As of last night I started my campaign to get ds sleeping in the Amby all night. We managed till 4am when I was too tired and fell back to sleep feeding him in our bed. Still, it's a good start.

HMM I think it was you who asked why my friend has been given such a long list of foods to avoid. I think she had some allergy testing done. It's quite severe though isn't it. But she was having real problems getting pregnant and had several rounds of IVF before changing her diet quite radically and falling pregnant naturally so she's hopeful this will work with the reflux. She's going to try it for 3 weeks and see.

I'm trying to get the flat clean as ILs coming down for the weekend tomorrow. They haven't seen ds since before Christmas so they're in for a shock!

HMM (again) - sympathies to your friend. Sounds like she's having a horrible time. Star has given great advice, but I would add that I found cabbage leaves quite helpful (but quite smelly!).
