Wilkie - congrats on the blue

Shimmer - glad you're enjoying it, sounds totally exhausting

Raisin/eandh - ditto on sleep deprivation. Am shattered. And have so much less patience when shattered

Who was asking about milk? I don't intend to swap mine over to semi skimmed any time soon TBH. I admit I am totally anal about what they eat and drink, but as far as milk is concerned, I feel they are 2 healthy and very active kids in no danger of obesity. I think at this age they need calories, especially since I'm so anal about what they eat otherwise !

We had a burst water main here, which was a PITA as these things are. The whole mains pipe is rusted to hell. But the complete donkey who had the house before us built an extension over the water main, so if we decided to replace the whole pipe to prevent more bursts (or if we don't replace it and wait until it does burst again) we would have to dig up the floor and remove half of the kitchen to reach it . This is the same twat as did DIY plumbing and electrics which left us with an enormous leak in an unearthed house

"We can't in" - what the hell does that mean? We can't get out, was what I meant to say!

Wish we had a sled! 2Happy, what do you do when there's snow? We are soft Southern pansies and get confused when there's more than 2cm of the cold white stuff!

Wilkiepedia · 02/02/2009 11:39

We are snowed in too! We live on steep hill that hasn't been cleared so we are all sutck at home. Nursery closed too!

Back later, J having a duck fit about something..........

2Happy · 02/02/2009 14:07

Hah! What we do when there's snow, is we go to work!! Actually, it's clearly a lot less bad up here (for now), though did nearly get totaly stuck going up a hill and had to abandon car at the bottom and walk up. When it gets really bed, we rely on the farmers to either put their buckets on their tractors to clear the roads, or (if really really bad) to give us lifts! It is quite ridiculous, thoug, one of the local schools has closed and I can see no earthly reason why except that they've had to close some down south where there has been massive snowfall. It's not even as bad here as it was a few weeks ago. Still, I suspect the ILs'll cry off all the same and poor ds2 will have as quiet a birthday as he did last year (when we couldn't get anywhere because he had chickenpox). Poor fecker, he does get a raw deal . Never mind, we'll get the sledge out later!! Hope you're all keeping warm, and safe if you're anywhere near the roads.

Raisin - definite leg crossing vibes for you with this weather! Glad you've made it past the important day - that really does mean it could be any day now [excited]

eandh - aaah, so that's where all the pairs to the odd socks end up! I only ever seem to get odd socks out, end up buying lots of identical pairs!!

Wilkie - a duck fit? What a great expression!

2H - I just find it ridiculous that the whole country grinds to a stand still when we get snow! TBH I need to go to work as have so much to do but snow is not letting up here. I bet we have a good 6/7 inches now.

2Happy · 02/02/2009 14:22

Totally agree, Wilkie. How come they manage perfectly well in countries where there is heavy snowfall every single year, but here we seem utterly incapable, even though this has been forecast for a bit now. Snow ploughs anybody?? Was listening to R4 on the way home, they were interviewing Boris Johnson, and made the point that the buses in London have NEVER been stopped, even during the Blitz. It's SNOW. We should be able to cope with snow! Gah.

Happy birthday 2happy ds2, I know what you mean about crap birthdays for them but hope some people make it.

dh driving in london today and says its stupid, people walking in roads etc I went to work and they decided to sned us home at 12pm, normally it takes me about 45mins to collect the girls and then get home it took over 2 hours today. It better go by saturday as laughalot is flying from east midlands and me from stansted

My friend moved to some part of USA where they get 5ft of snow and she says they are so organisded over tehre life carries on, the diggers etc contoinously clear the roads an dthey have to clear their path/drive twice a day but have a petrol snow blaster (sounds fab) she sends some great pictures of her 2 dc playing in the snow (and they have nice hot summers)

eandh · 02/02/2009 14:35

oh and update on the ebay/paypal ds thing, the woman stopped first claim (saying it hadnt arrived ) and started another claim because I couldnt be arsed about whole thing I agreed that I'd refund when she returned it (postage at her cost) anyway that was on 19th Jan and paypal gave her till 31st to provide a tracking number, they emailed her 3 times and no repsonse so I have had a full refund of all my money and she can no longer make any further claims against me (but am slightly puzzled why she didnt send it back when she insisted it didnt work)

Lizzzombie · 02/02/2009 18:25

We had PANTS snow! PCF & LTH (according to F photos) have had tons more than me, and I only live 15 mins from LTH and about 30 miles from PCF, and EAH also is not that far and she had lots too. NOT FAIR!

DP left at sparrow fart as usual to get 6.45am train, all trains cancelled so he has been working from home today which has been good. And I've been out and about in the icey drizzle of snow which has been trying to settle all day. Really rather pathetic though. Did manage playgroup this morning where DJ had the mother of all tantrums, so embarrassing. But what was really amusing is that one of the mothers there has a 12mo DS and is about 8 months pregnant also. And her DS has not reached the scarey tantrum stage. I think I have put the fear of God into her! She was very pale looking on at me!
Right, I need wine. Am shattered. Made the mistake of going into town with no buggy (mainly thinking, if EAH's H can do it then DJ can too!) erm, yeah, I ended up carrying him home. Its done my back in! Off to bed now! xxxxxxxx

Lizzzombie · 02/02/2009 18:27

BTW - EAH - weird about the woman not getting back to you about the paypal thing. Very odd.

Also, has anyone else seen the threads about people with similar names?! I am finding this all very amusing. As if it matters if someone has a similar name! Surely there are more important things to care about.....ho hum. x

eandh · 02/02/2009 19:02

Lizz but H thrives on being let loose and is only allowed if Ellie isnt with me (I cannot do 2 of them on the run ) so she knows we just go back to the car if she plays up (or if really desperate I put the wrist strap on) loads of snow here about 6-7inches (and my work never shut!) poor dp getting up that early, does he not have the radio/tv on before he leaves (I'd be gutted to have got up and out)

Do you mean other poster names I know there is someone called eandz and we've got confused before but normally post on very different threads

Reggiee · 02/02/2009 19:21

So then, didn't quite make it to London....
Fun day at work postponing the thing I'd been working towards for months . Bit touch and go whether to cancel or not, so hope it really snows tonight.
So happy birthday 2H's ds2 . Hope you had a smashing day.
Chicken casserole for tea and made a soup for the slow cooker tomorrow. Really fancy some stodgy pud too...

Wilkiepedia · 02/02/2009 20:47

Lizz - or what about this thread here - Formula is acid didn't you know? Some people just have NO life...!

EAH - nice one re PayPal - I think she was trying it on anyway

Reg - your dinner sounds yummy!

Well, we are well and truly snowed in - now have about 10 inches.

Lizzzombie · 03/02/2009 08:06

We have about 1mm of snow (but lots of ice) its SO NOT FAIR!
DP made it to Brighton this morning, but i've just had a call that the last 2 trains to Victoria have been cancelled and the branch line he needs to change onto from East Croydon is closed anyway so he's coming home. He can't work remotely either as there is no one in the office to turn on his computer at that end....so he asked what he can do at home as I'll be at work (still open!) and DJ will be at nursery.
Should I leave him a list?!
Hmm...washing, ironing, hoovering, dusting....the usual!

Hope you all have enough supplies to keep you going through your snow'd in ness. Be careful, especially those of you with bumps xxx

eandh · 03/02/2009 08:47

Lizz - huge list seems appropriate!

PCF- symapthies on the school thing yesterday, you'd think they'd be a bit more concious about forward planning than that wouldnt you??

Eddas just phoned shes getting the bus into town later, I phoned bus company and our buses are running so we are going to jump on the bus and meet them in town so all the kids can have mcdonalds and apparently hmv have got a sale on so may pop inthere and get a dvd for this afternoon. If buses are running late we could walk in but tbh it'll be a nightmare as Hattie would have to go in buggy and grizzle the entire way [grrr]

Hope everyone is okay today, no more snow here but like lizz/pcf said lots of ice and its so sunny but absolultey freezing cold

raisingrrrl · 03/02/2009 08:57

Wilkie - that thread made me roffle! I am a staunch pro-bfer and I never even noticed the MN logo! Arf!

Dh has gone into work today, saying he'll leave at 3 () so as to get back before it all freezes. I'll expect him around 7, then. Snow here was pretty bad, but Z loved playing out in the garden! Not sure what to do with the rest of the week though - beginning to wish I'd kept him in nursery for 3 days.

Wilkiepedia · 03/02/2009 11:36

Stuck indoors again - can't get to work. Fed up of snow now.

PCF - that is bad, I wouldn't be very happy either

UD - I think bfing is great if you can do it and want to do it but I think people that make out that formula is one of the evils of the world are very short sighted. There are far worse things to do to your baby i.e. smoking/drinking in pregnancy, eating the wrong foods etc which are far more damaging! I just can't bear 'holier-than-thou' people, when, at the end of the day, this site is for people who love their children and are trying to do the best for them. Very few people in the western world (I'm not talking about third world countries as whole other issue) have killed their babies through FF.

Little man is kicking away - can't believe am 21.5weeks already! It is flying past. My nipples are just leaking everywhere - think I might even have to put nipple pads in. It's ridiculous!

raisingrrrl · 03/02/2009 12:53

Wilkie - I certainly don't know many bf-ing advocates who would say that ff is one of the evils of the world, and it winds me right up when people bash ff-ing mothers. At the end of the day the reasons why you ff aren't important, and it's certainly none of my business!

What annoys me - and other lactivists - is the formula companies who are only interested in their own profits, and the fact that the codes and laws in place to keep them in check are blatantly and flagrantly ignored and flouted on a regular basis.

PS: I smoked and drank through both my pregnancies - although I did cut down.

2Happy · 03/02/2009 15:07

Thanks for the birthday wishes. The party never really happened, just us 4 but it was quite sweet really and for once ds1 seemed to totally get why he wasn't getting any presents!

Well, the 30cm of snow forecast landed......as flipping rain! It's sunny and 4degrees here, so unlikely to get any more snow! A bit disappointed as I was looking forward to going sledging again with ds1 but never mind.

PCF - grrr at the school! Glad it's open today.
eandh - that woman is weird. Maybe there was never anything wrong with the machine, she just wanted your money and was then going to sell the perfectly working machine on as well? (naturally suspicious!)
Lizz - hope he makes it through the list by the time you get home!
Reg - shame about the London trip.

RANT ALERT (am VV hormonal today) - DH spent 2 hours clearing the whole road this morning with our lovely neighbour of all the snow and putting some grit down. Our road is really steep with cars parked either side and another small country road off it. They had to put some snow in front of the country road entrance (which was totally blocked with snow and no signs of life).

Not ONE person came out to say thank you or anything that they had freed up the road so people could eventually get out!

About 2 hours later there is a knock at the door and some bloke who lives up the country road started having a go at DH for putting a small amount of the snow at the entrance to their road as he needed to get out. I leapt of the sofa and said, 'don't you dare come round here having a go at my husband when he was the only person beside our neighbour clearing this road 2 days running' - he had the gall to say that yes, he had watched him do it so I retorted 'Nice of you to come and help'. Anyway, after 5 minutes rowing on our step, DH went out to see where this guy was talking about. By this time nice neighbour had come out and he and DH cleared the small bit of snow out of w*nkers way.

Arghhhhhh - I am SO angry. People are SO ungrateful nowadays. I told DH never to bother again.

Lizzzombie · 03/02/2009 17:38

Wilkie - I suggest you save all your pg lady wee up and write him a yellow snow note.

raisingrrrl · 03/02/2009 17:42

Wilkie - we had that EXACT same thing, we have grit boxes either end of our road, and dh was out clearing the road yesterday so people could get out. ONE woman said thank you.

He did nick a whole wheelbarrow of grit so we could do our drive though, just in case the mw needs to get down it!

Lizzz - i just snorted cake out of my nose, so thanks for that!

eandh · 03/02/2009 18:14

how fuckin rude - make sure you do what lizz says

DH and 2 people on our street did ours last night and the idiots that live a few doors u p blocked everyones drives/parking because they were moving except when dh asked them to move the van so we could actually move our car they were really rude and refused to so dh got in the car and started reversing it they are renting the house out but the new people moving in have 4 cars and they only have 1 parking space so am envising more problems

oh excuse typing ellie spilt juice over keyboard so only half teh keys work unless I cut and paste missing ones

Wilkiepedia · 03/02/2009 19:01

Thanks for suggestions girls - I might wee on his windscreen of his 'Range Rover' (nob - sorry to anyone owning one of these cars) so it is totally frozen in the morning.

EAH - that is really annoying too?!

What is it with people nowadays? There is such an air of apathy relating to helping each other and then people get SO angry SO easily about things. Dad said 20 years ago all the blokes in the street would have been clearing the snow off the road in 30 mins. DH is very 'old school' in this way and a bit of a good samaritan. I just told him not to bother in future as people are so ungrateful.

Reggiee · 04/02/2009 19:18

Evening. Anyone around?
