Here's a new thread especially for Kate79.

(she couldn't access the old one).

Casmie · 27/01/2005 14:09

But shouldn't Kiera's nickname be kitten?

cat82 · 27/01/2005 14:11

Ahhh yes Casmie, so it should! Actualy she may grow up very confused, dp's nickname for her is bunny

Judd · 27/01/2005 17:42

help ds just been sick. rfusing any food. do i just leave him? on my knee so cant do caps

Judd · 27/01/2005 18:12

he's now high maintenance but chirpy. sod's law - dh away. v glad it was on the laminate anyway.
havent logged on for a while so am a bit behind. Susi - my degree is in german so i can do friendly banter or be rude to you (depending on what your friends would do!) if it would make you feel less homesick! can't guarantee good grammar tho'

Prufrock · 27/01/2005 18:27

Happy Birthday Cat. Enjoy your evening with g'ma.
Judd - hope ds is OK. I tend to ignore first vomit and just offer lots of water.

Casmie · 27/01/2005 18:55

Agree with prufrock but don't let them drink the water too fast - just small sips (too much in one go can trigger more vomitting - I went through three lots of bedding on both my and ds1's bed before I realised that once ) I tend to put more weight on their demeanor health-wise, so if he's chirpy now I would guess he's generally okay. If he gets very listless and unresponsive then phone the emergency doc.

Judd · 27/01/2005 19:42

Thanks for the advice. He actually had a lovely bath and was more or less his normal self. There is a sickness bug going round here, but as he's had a cold and phlegmy cough I'm wondering if it's just the mucus finally shifting. Nice! He's tucked up in bed now and asleep, so I'll just keep my ears open and see how he goes.....
Casmie - are your two better? How are you feeling?
Happy birthday Cat! I was on my year abroad in Pisa when I was 23. How is the lack of morning nap going?

egypt · 27/01/2005 20:26

FINALLY.

i have been trying to get online all day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAT! . hmm, at 23 i had not long met dh. was travelling 4 hours most fridays to spend the weekend with him. teaching in norwich and living with my friend and her boyf.

libb, sorry to hear you're having a tough time of it. hope your day helps. sounds like you both want it to which is the best start.

casmie, how are your mr bumps?

susi, glad you are a lot happier too.

judd, lots of cuddles and a close eye, and he'll be fine.

we're doing well on the sleep front. woke at 4am and went through until 8 last night. i'm on my own tonight do hoping i'll get a good night. going to watch the end of 'like father like son' in a bit which i taped and havent got around to watching, except for the quick snippets when dd is content.

ooooo, got my maclaren quest

SusiS · 28/01/2005 07:41

wow you've been chatty yday!
we had a great night - lucas slept 6.45-6.30
what a good boy - and even i managed to sleep till 5.30! so feeling much more rested.

lol judd, we could start with the friendly banter and when we get along we always could call each other names
also, womit fangen wir an?
btw, is ds ok?

casmie; how are the bumb boys doing???
libb; how are you getting on?
cat: hope you haven't got too much of a hang over

oh, and we had a lovely day yesterday!
went to jo jingles at 12 (we both love it) and afterwards 3 of us went to a friend for lunch. very nice - first of course the kids got fed; quite a massaker!!!! almost looked like a foodfight grins - then we went for a walk - well it was actually raining but hohum was still nice - we got hot chocolate and muffins (mums did!) - kids got some biscuits - and of course lots of playing! lucas really enjoyed that. suddenly it was 5pm and we had to rush home! daddy was already waiting and took over while i was getting ds' dinner ready. dp fed him while i was running his bath. dp bathed him while i was de/loading dishwasher - so a real good team wink - dp put nappy on, clothes on and fed him bottle and 10 min later put lucas to bed! - good dp clap on his shoulder

Judd · 28/01/2005 11:13

Susi, you do sound very perky today - hurrah! I'm feeling a bit crap because although DS only woke at 4am for a bit of a cuddle (and I've noticed this morning he has a scab on his head so he must have scratched himself in the night), I was up being sick at 2.30am and 5am. Thank goodness DD seems to be OK so has been packed off to preschool as normal this morning. DS seems to be OK as well, had his weetabix and milk but I won't force the food issue.
Counting the seconds till DH gets back from Oxford!....

egypt · 28/01/2005 12:51

oh dear judd. i felt sick this morning, but nothing has come of it touch wood.

not such a good night. dh away and dd woke at 230 but wouldnt go back to sleep until 4. each time i picked her up she fell asleep, put her down, cried. tried leaving her but she only got worse. didnt want milk. maybe teeth. very snotty.

just had musictime in the village. great fun. dd loving bouncing on her legs and bum to the music and shaking the maracas. then coffee in a coffee shop afterwards. mmmmm..... poor dd was so tired, had missed her morning nap. we left just as she was due lunch! but of course fell asleep in the car. bless.

cat82 · 28/01/2005 13:13

cat82 · 28/01/2005 13:28

I am a tad..er..delicate today guys.

We had a fabulous time though, we went to a fantastic fish restaurant and consumed much champagne and white wine. The food was absoulty wonderful and the wine was rather tooo good, and.....

...wait for it....

at 11.00pm i was IN A CLUB listening to some really odd music drinking more wine and occasionaly dancing BADLY unti 1.00am....

WITH MY 71 YEAR OLD GRANMOTHER AND MY 52 YEAR OLD GREAT AUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After that we left, singing and dancing the can can through the streets of cambridge and i can't even remember the cab journey home

We had the best time
and guess who's idea it was to go to the club? that's right, my 71 year old grans
So, yes, we are both feeling slightly off colour today

Egypt- it probably is teeth, i'm sure sleep filled night will return soon. Sounds like you had fun at misic time

Judd- poor you and ds. How are you feeling now? It's horrible feeling ill and don't have dh/dp support because they're out.

Susi- ooooh sounds like you had a lovely day after the jo jangles session

Libb- How's everything now?

Camsie- Illness cleared up yet?

Right i have update, i'm now going to sit and groan in front of the fire while kiera is sleeping.
Oooh she cut another tooth, we now have 2

Love to everyone
xxx

Casmie · 28/01/2005 13:39

Glad you had a fun night out, cat - sounds like a riot!

I'm desperately wishing someone would take the kids for a couple of days tbh. Feeling shit as ds2 decided to be awake most of the night to "play" (again, is happy when we're in there, screaming blue murder if we leave). Dh is really bad with the 'flu, I feel achy and headachy and have a really nasty cough so I think I'm on the way down. I still have over half a writing assignment to do by Monday.

Poor ds1 is surviving on virtually no attention at all, which is so unfair for him. MIL and FIL were due to visit tomorrow but have cancelled because FIL hasn't been very well and him catching flu would be a bad idea. I suggested they cancel, and I'm glad they did but part of me is gutted because they were going to take over the kids for a day so we could get some kitchen stuff done (extension due to start next weekend).

Just want to go back to bed and pull the duvet over my head.

kate79 · 28/01/2005 15:33

ds just had check up and they want him to have a scan on his knee!! they said it's higher on one side and is clicking, i feel so awful coz i had noticed a click last week when changing his nappy and done nothing. need to stop blubbing coz i can see it's upseting ds

Judd · 28/01/2005 18:00

Phew - DH is home and not a minute too soon . I think he is feeling a little guilty about eating pheasant whilst I was clearing up babysick yesterday evening! DS is so much better it is amazing - he really is in rude health and letting us all know about it! DD still seems to be OK and even I, frail flower that I am, seem to be on the mend. I've had a tentative little packet of Milky Way stars and they've gone down a treat. Really glad because on Sunday, DH is out from 11am until midnight rehearsing and performing in a concert.
Casmie - much sympathy. Can anybody take DS1 out for a couple of hours tomorrow?
Cat - have enjoyed reading about your celebrations, glad they were fab!

Bozza · 28/01/2005 20:40

Glad you had such a good time Cat. Casmie Kate stop beating yourself up about DS's knee - you weren't to know and it was only last week. When will the scan be? Do you know yet?

SusiS · 28/01/2005 20:54

wohoooo me is back!
had a great time at nannys - she was so happy to see well, lucas again! (after 6!! weeks)
she plays with him all the time and pampers us too

but driving was a pain in the a*!! dark, very windy, very rainy, lots of traffic - and dp had only 4 hours of sleep all day so couldn't let him drive! but we are home

pmsl cat! loved your description of your "girls night out"! - glad you (all 3) had fun although there might be some hangovers

judd: oh no, so sick? well, milky ways stars might have been the right medicine then
good to see you are feeling so much happier
concert? what does he play?

oh kate: weird clicking? but lucas' does that sometimes and i haven't been told anything like that. i bet it will be nothing; but just to be on the safe side to go for the scan

oh no casmie: there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel!!! at least both heads seem hard enough - but you all with flu! not good
don't you know anybody who could help out? neighbours, family, friends, ... and if it's only for an hour! - ((((( big hug )))))

spots · 28/01/2005 23:01

A lot of musicky stuff going on here. How great to go to jo jingles and music time.... I bought DD a CD from ELC (....!?....) and that's as far as we have got with the old baby karaoke but they really are the right age for it aren't they?

I want to know about your DH's talents too Judd.

And by the way how did the christening go last weekend?

Cat, how hilarious! I love the idea of your burthday girls' night out. Totally in awe of your bloodline.

I am in a BRILLIANT MOOD. I have FINISHED MY TAX RETURN. I know, it's due in on monday and I am leaving it till the last minute. But I have a baby you see...It is very difficult for me...Normally I do it for september so I have never had to do all the sums before. And I tell you, the people who think all this stuff up are absolute geniusses. oNe look at it and you balk. Two looks at it and you throw a tantrum. But actually sit down and do it step by step and you realise it is quite careful and sensible. Anyway, it's done. Enough. I shall not think about it again until....for ages.

hoooorah, and it's the weekend!

Hope you feel better, Casmie. xxx

spots · 28/01/2005 23:16

Sorry for going on about tax returns.

I actually meant to ask if anyone was finding nappy changing a Nightmare? DD has really got the hang of making it difficult for me. She makes herself into a swastika shape and revolves like a pig on a spit, plunging her heel into any poo that's around and shouting as if in pain. She is SO STRONG now. I can practically see her 6-pack bulging as she rotates. Wondered how those of you wih bigger babies than her manage (think she is about 20lbs, so no fairy herself).

SusiS · 29/01/2005 08:31

omg what a night! what is wrong with me??? i can't sleep lately - lucas is so good and slept through till 5, woke briefly and slept more till 7! but i kept up every 30 min (seemed like) and turning and tossing *grrrr and awake from 5 onwards
but dp was every so good! while i changed lucas and got him dressed dp made me breakfast, did the bottles (!), and did some washing up (!) - wow! very nice
so, lucas is back to bed so time for me to get on the pc hehe - dp is on the phone to our best friends who moved to australia last year bummer

SusiS · 29/01/2005 08:33

good to see you in such a good mood spots
and agreed on nappy changing!
what a nightmare - have to work with all the tricks i can think of!
he just wiggles all the time, wants to turn over (preferably with his full of poo nappy already opened), just anything but lying still!
the secret is "lots of toys" - or daddy's strong hands for help

helsy · 29/01/2005 17:09

Hello everyone.
Sounds like we missed a good night cat. When I was 23 it was the eighties and I was a size 8, newly single and living in London. And my breasts were lot chirpier than they are now, let me tell you........

Don't have a problem with nappy changing, she's just happy to get them off and a clean one on and have a kick, although the antibiotics she's on have resulted in some spectacular poos today.

Dd1 and dh are at a party (Brewsters, can't STAND that flaming bear), so I'm trying to find an IPAQ on the internet for dh's birthday (he wants one).

She still won't sleep through the night but is ok about not having a nighttime bottle now. Egypt did you stop night feeds?
Libb hope things are going a bit better for you now. Things are never straightforward after a baby and it's easy to find yourselves pulling in different directions when you desperately need each other. A friend says you shouldn't make any decisions about relationships within 6 - 12 months of having a baby as if we did everyone would be split up or divorced! Sorry this is a bit late - hectic week - but I was thinking of you.
Going to a proper grown up dinner party tonight - have a babysitter for the first time since dd2 was born. It's a friend who has a baby so it should be ok.
Talking of 'flu (as you have been), anyone heard of man 'flu? Dh gets it and sounds and looks exactly like a mild cold, but apparently it's VERY serious and can result in a week off work and the inability to do any housework...
