Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sarahplus2 · 23/02/2005 10:41

oh god i tried her book maybe i started too late with sophie but i had to give up before i went insane, full marks to anyone who can follow it though!

SusiS · 23/02/2005 11:02

just came back from shopping; lucas is asleep; dp is asleep
so i am having a nice hot chocolate with some brioche

no heating here either; we survive on one electrical heater - and we know the fleece tactic too spots

wohooo georgina is back - sorry to hear you are having such a tough time!!! ((((( hugs ))))) - don't listen to what your hv has to say!! why is she coming around anyways???? - i haven't seen mine in months, no regrets

re naps: lucas too is all over the place with his naps. at least he does nap!!! - but sometimes really late (like today at 10) and other times so early (the other day at 8!)! - very strange! when i realise he gets tired i try to give him some "quiet time" with me. it helps!

gg: so sorry to hear that lo has a chest infection. that must be really terrible. hope he copes!!!

cat: woooohooooo! good to hear that you've "moved on"

hmmmmmm, that hot chocolate was yummy. i think i get another one

GeorginaA · 23/02/2005 14:15

sarahplus2: I don't really follow her rigidly - next to impossible with 2 children anyway!! But I do use her as a guideline in terms of rough timing of naps/feeds etc and it's worked really well for us (as it did first time around). I take what works, ditch what doesn't, tbh.

cat: snuggle up to that hot water bottle, love! Red wine is very good for period pains, imo Plus I'm sure it helps replace any lost iron... That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Health Visitor been and gone. She's checking on him again at 12 months to see how his language has developed. She was quite reassuring that she thought he was just going at his own pace, but wanted to follow it up all the same. I suppose it's a good thing that they're thorough. He's also growing nicely - the flu & sick bug hasn't made an impact on his growth at all which I'm relieved about. She thinks he's now perfectly well enough to get strict about nighttime again (because I've been worried about teeth or not feeling 100% we've got into bad habits - sometimes giving him a feed and a snuggle... usually getting him up for medised and a cuddle - she thinks he's just looking for it now rather than really needing it and I'm inclined to agree) so controlled crying here we come later this evening. Oh joy.

egypt · 23/02/2005 14:57

might have to join you on th cc georgina. dd had a nice 2.5 hour nap this lunchtime, (morning nap is now through lunchtime nap). she is much better anyway....i am feeling sh**te. did not sleep AT ALL last night. gave up at 6am and sat on the sofa watching the dawn break. joy. not. i do not know what is wrong with me. i cant switch off. feels like i am getting low about things, but not q sure what exactly. got myself into a bit of a vicious circle i spose. me napping in day as not sleeping in night and dd waking more since she has been ill. i have sore tonsills and sore throat and ugh ugh ugh....

aaanyway, snowing here too. so cant go for my daily walk really to get dd to sleep so did cc in her cot this morning as i was so knackered. left her for a while really. 40 mins but she got the message. hoping it'll impact on nights.

huh
not likely

xxxx

gg - i didnt realise you were goreousgirl not gorGeousgirl! was that intentional!

SusiS · 23/02/2005 15:32

oh my, having a rough time here too
ds woke at 3am and just wouldn't settle back to sleep - well he actually did - but everytime he was about to go, dp coughed and woke him again - well, poor dp has a bad virus, so can't really blame him; but still grmmpffff

having troubles with daynaps though; earlier we tried to put him down (he was so obviously tired) but after 1 hour we gave up. could it be sep. anxiety this age????? he also gets quite upset when i leave his site and follows me around everywhere!!!!!! very exhausting

how do you do cc with that?????
besides that we actually follow more the pick up/put down method - worked a treat so far! just not now

helsy · 23/02/2005 16:34

I can't keep up with all this!

Having a terrible time, dh is so stressed I think he may be having a breakdown of some kind, I'm really worried about my job as we're being restructured at work and we've just taken on a huge mortgage so neither of us are sleeping at night, and the only good thing at the moment is the girls, both of whom are wonderful. Dd2 is still at nursery and a friend is picking her up because we've just had a mini snow blizzard and I'm too scared to drive. Dd1 is playing travel which involves her walking up and down with a rucksack on telling me which country she's going to next.
I didn't get an 8 month appointment through for dd2 - she was 9 months on Monday - should I phone up?
Sort of good news - I got a place on the Playtex Moonwalk in London on 18th June, you know the one for breast cancer research, lots of women walking through London in the middle of the night in bras? Means I have to start exercising and training. Now.

Libb · 23/02/2005 21:02

Hello everyone,

Oh dear, we all seem to be having such a pants time at the moment. We have all had chest infections and the Libblett seems to be hooked on Medised so I have been "bad cop" mummy and banned it.

DP and I are still working on it, but I really hate the sound of my own nagging so I feel rather cross that I have to constantly "prompt" him towards things. We also seem to have a difference of opinion of what "making an effort" entails. He got a rather stern telling off on Valentines Day when my blank card sat on top the TV until 11pm ish whilst he sat on the sofa watching the aforementioned TV. As Terry Wogan would say, is it me? Men . . .

Spots, I will mail you back I promise and Cat, Friday would be fantastic if that is still okay with you? I am not sure if the Libblett will attend yet but it would be good to see you xxx

Egypt, is it worth going to the doctor or do you think it is just the time of year and all these lurgies you have been fighting off? Take care sweetpea.

That goes for all us May mums and babes - I hope you all feel better soon xxxx (I guess we are rather spoilt because of our beautiful Spring/Summer babies!)

Libb · 23/02/2005 21:04

Helsy, I really hope you and DP are sorted out soon. It isn't easy at the best of times so if you want to bend an ear xxx

ps: congrats on the Breast Cancer awareness walk! I'll sponsor you xx

spots · 23/02/2005 22:41

Oh lovely girls, lots of sadness today... Egypt, not surprised you're feeling under the weather, there need be no other reason than lack of sleep. Did you mean you weren't sleeping last night because of insomnia, rather than DD's waking? Either way, it's a curse. Hope you sleep tonihgt.

Lovely to hear from you Libb, you don't need to feel obliged to mail back I was mainly worried not to have news of you... tho if you have time of course mail away...!

And Helsy too... what are your and dh's jobs? it's all job stress is it? tho I love the travel game; may have to play it myself and Susi... tell that lucas to do something useful next time he wakes at 3am... get you a hot water bottle full of cocoa perhaps...

We are sorted here; heating was fixed by plum£££ers in time for half the day's snowfall. I was knackered today and didn't really mind a day in and DD was being v. sweet so it was all ok in the end. Except the button came off my trousers... the ones I think of as my britney spears trousers... my youth is really over now.

I am working in the evenings again, just finished for the night. Our new show opens next week and that will be a biggy, tho I'm not doing as much on it as I'd originally planned (because of DD of course). Another illustration job is in the offing, hoorah!

Linnet · 24/02/2005 00:01

Hi everyone, Here is another installment of the Linnet novel.

Hi to Brambles and Sarah, welcome to the May babies thread.

Yes, I'm still around, I know I don't post as often as I should.

Dd2 woke up last Friday morning at 6am with a temperature and was grizzly all weekend, I thought it was teething and had been dosing her with calpol and nurofen etc. Monday morning I wake up with a full blown cold and dd1 has some sniffles as well. So we've all been ill, I've been the worst so far struggled into work yesterday, my late night, and really wish I hadn't bothered. Had a big meeting today which I sniffed my way through and I'm on late again tomorrow night, aagghhh. Dh says I should phone in sick but I keep saying it's only a cold, even if I do feel like death warmed up. I'll see how I feel in the morning.

After I had dd1 my immune system seemed to kick in and I didn't get colds and things until she was about 4. Was kind of hoping that the same thing would happen with dd2 but it hasn't

WE've got snow, woke up this morning to a fair amount but school was not cancelled so dd1 had to go. WE took her sledging straight after school though on the North Inch, big park area in our town. She had great fun and dh even put dd2 on the sledge and dragged her along for a little while. I thought she'd try and roll over and climb off it but no she just lay there looking really cute. But it was so so cold. And apparently we're in for really bad weather tomorrow. I might be snowed in and unable to get to work tomorrow , I have to walk and it's almost a mile to work and a mile home again, really don't fancy walking all that way in snow up to my knees. Probably won't get that bad though.

Well, we've reached 9 months. Dd2 can wave and crawl, say dadda and Eeeeaa. Still no mama though But I'm her favourite person, she likes to get up at 1am precisely every night and won't settle unless I cuddle her, if dh tries she just screams and screams. All very sweet but not so much fun when full of the cold and you've got to be at work early for a meeting! If dh puts her on the floor she crawls straight over to me and pulls herself up on my trouser leg. if I'm not around then she heads to the couch, nappy box, highchair, anything that is standing still basically and pulls herself up and stands there. If we hold her hands she tries to walk, she actually wants to walk when she's standing at the couch. She'll hold on with one hand and try to take a step away from the couch but then thinks better of it. She can't quite sit by herself yet though. She will sit and play with something but then loses her balance and puts her hand out to the side and leans on it, very lazy looking, lol

Congrats Susi on the new baby wow that will be a close age gap.

Sorry to hear that everyone has been suffering with colds and bugs etc. It's a horrible time of year.

Prufrock I didn't manage to see your new house but I'll bet it's fab.

ok, going to go to bed as it's so late and I was meant to be having an early night.

Will try to keep up more often in future.

linnet

goreousgirl · 24/02/2005 00:06

Cat 82 - Keira and my ds sound v similar. Hope the feeding is going better? My ds won't eat much (pretty ill at the moment too, so vomiting etc), but v frustrating at best of times.

Looking at all the posts - I have decided that 9 months is the time of hell!! I'm feeling better knowing that I am not the only one feeling that the going is tough - big cyber-hug for anyone having a hard time.

I'm going to bed and will have shower to remove smell of sick.! Goodnight, and here's to a nice day tomorrow.

SusiS · 24/02/2005 06:44

morning ladies! had a good night - lucas woke only once (!) and dp was downstairs on the sofa topped up with coughsirup and antibiotics - so wohooooo! and i am not feeling too sick atm

oh helsy, stress at work - there is not much really what you can do, is there! we had that a few weeks ago! it's quite disheartening! hopefully your dh gets through it as quickly as mine!!! (((( hugs))))

libb, so nice to hear from you!!! and agreed, very different opinion on "making an effort"!!!!! - must be men
don't give up it will get better!!!

lol spots, i wish lucas knew how to do that hot watterbottle thingy - he'll learn as soon as he is big enough though
and nothing nicer than a sweet day in with lovely dd!!!!
but am impressed how you manage to work in the evenings!!! you must have lots of energy
that goes for all the other mums too! with more than 1 lo and working as well - wow!!
i am knackered with just that one!!!! well, 1 and a half

linnet too, so nice to hear from you!! don't walk into work if the weather is too bad. since you feel quite ill anyways; snuggle up in bed rather
seems like our lo's are the same step atm! lucas does exactly the same with pulling himself up on just everything and letting go with one hand - really adventurous!!
oh yes, VERY close age gap! don't even want to think about it
and seriously: what are you doing up SO late!!!!!

same for you gg!!! so late - hope you are having an easier day today! ((( hugs back )))

Prufrock · 24/02/2005 08:20

Welcome to Sarah and brambles.

Georgina - it's good to have you back. That Casmie woman was OK, but not the real thing.

Well I posted yesterday about how I also haven't had a full nights sleep in a month, then ds deleted my message. But, after not going to sleep until 9pm last night, he did manage to stay asleep until 6:50 this am. So I should come and complain on here more. Poor little chap has a burst eardrum which resulted in my "stupid mummy" moment - Susi beware - this is what happens when you have 2

"And the appointment was followed by my stupid cow moment.
I rushed to chemist to pick up antibiotics, and as they handed me the yellow bottle of amoxcyllin suddenly remembered that ds is allergic to peniccillin. So back to docs, just caught him, got a bit irate that it wasn't on their records as I'd definately put it on the registration form. He agreed that was v. bad and would check their processes, and asked how we knew and when he'd reacted. "Oh he had a really bad chest infection just after his birthday and the amoxcyllin brought him out in a terrible rash" I said - "1st birthday" said the doc - "but he's only 9 months".

DD is allergic to peniccilin. Doh"

GeorginaA · 24/02/2005 09:06

Egypt: well the CC didn't go too badly. He woke up really early last night - about 8.30pm and we both rolled our eyes and thought "great, we're in for a long night then". He got absolutely hysterical when he realised he wasn't going to be picked up. After first visit I had a crisis of confidence and worried that it was his teeth hurting him (he was SO distraught) so I gave him some Teetha without lifting him from the cot. He fell asleep about 10 minutes afterwards. So in total about 20-25 mins of awake time. He then slept through the night. I wonder if once he realises that he isn't going to get loads of cuddles and attention, he gives up early. Or maybe it was just a fluke. Who knows.

Ds1 was awake again last night though, wish we could do CC for him! Think the sticker chart is going to have to be resurrected because this is getting silly.

Susi: definitely separation anxiety at this age. Ds2 will calm down instantly I pick up and cuddle him, but woe betide Daddy if he tries it. Dh jokes that ds2 "hates him" but I think it's actually getting him down quite a bit. If I leave the room and ds1 is there, he's usually okay, but if ds1 leaves the room and I'm not there (or I leave the room and ds1 isn't there) it's a recipe for howls of abandonment.

helsy: so sorry to hear of your stresses - sounds awful. I hope it all resolves well soon. Re: your 8/9 month check - to be honest, I wouldn't bother unless you had any developmental concerns.

libb: yes, I'm getting a little concerned about how many times we're using medised with ds2, too. It's so hard to work out when they really need it, isn't it?!

spots: glad your heating is fixed again - this is definitely not the weather to be with out it!

gg: aw I dunno. I think 9 months is a lovely age - unfortunate for May babies in that 9 months is the cold/flu/bug season but otherwise I'm really excited that ds2 is more mobile, interesting and interactive. Maybe it's just that I'm not a very good baby mummy - I'm ready for the new challenges and interest!!

prufrock: at the antibiotics. That's soooo something I would do. Yes, I think I'm glad to be me again as well. The Casmie bird was a much younger me and I think I'm much more comfortable being a 30ish mum of two, no matter how boring that is.

[random domestic details] the extension is coming on really well - roof goes up at the weekend! All the walls are up and I'm panicking a bit that they looked a bit small, until someone reminded me that rooms always look tiny until you put plasterboard/plaster up and furniture in them - timely reminder I think!

I've been camera magazine shopping and got really enthused for trying different camera techniques now. Decided to spend my birthday money on some magazine subscriptions. Was all excited about taking some nice silhouette shots this morning as I was sure with the snow we'd get a nice clear bright sky today. No such luck - typical! Going to play around with some imaging software while ds2 sleeps instead (if I ever finish this mammoth post!!) - better than starting chores at any rate.

Get well soon everyone!

Judd · 24/02/2005 09:13

Well, I'm completely and utterly with you in agreeing that 9 months is a time of utter madness! Since Christmas, we've had bronchiolitis, teething, colds...all punctuated by one or two nights' unbroken sleep - lulling you into a false sense of security that you have finally cracked it - before the whole thing starts again! Then, when nothing seems to be wrong at all, we have an hour of messing around and chortling in the wee small hours before returing to blissful slumber! However, I do remember DD being just the same at EXACTLY the same age (we were on holiday in a hotel so it was very annoying indeed!)so maybe it could be some developmental stuff going on in their little heads and they will emerge the other side older and wiser
Prufrock - did like your doctor story! Hope DS gets better. Sods law dictates that we will get rid of DS's cold just in time for teething to kick in.....
Right, I'm off. Keep warm everybody!
Disclaimer can't be bothered to preview so sorry for mistakes!

Bozza · 24/02/2005 09:22

Prufrock Glad I'm not the only oone. Georgina glad the cc went so well. DD is like that in that she is happy to accept DS as company. And I agree that I think this is quite a nice age. We're quite lucky with not having much in the way of illness atm - had a bad run from September with DS's operation, both chicken pox, and then DD starting nursery and picking up everything going through until January. Think DD would be happier if more mobile though so sometimes I try and keep out of the room to let her get on with it. If I go in she just cries until I stand her up. Linnet are you working today? I got in with no real problems - 3 attempts to turn out of our road being the worst bit. But DH took the kids to nursery and said there were very few there and some of the carers hadn't made it. So I'm wondering how long I should stay because it is 20odd miles home. Although DH was supposed to be doing some tests on a building site in Leeds which he's cancelled so think he will be at home which is walking distance from nursery so I don't need to worry about getting back for the kids.

OP posts:
SusiS · 24/02/2005 09:50

prufrock: could you still blame hormones???
also sleep deprivation is always a good one (and true one) too!!!!

yep G: sounds about right your story re sep.anxiety. dp is quite the same too; bit upset when he can't calm ds when i leave the room - poor daddies!
what camera have you got? dp keeps asking me which one i want; we do have one (too old for him ) so nothing for me atm. i also used to buy some digital photography magazine; i just got fed up with not being able to take a nice picture! well, it sort of fell asleep ...

lucas is asleep atm, was much easier to put him down today - i guess it's all about getting the tired window!
and i agree: 9 months is a nice age; he is so much more active and mobile; he loves it (drives me crazy though sometimes)

egypt · 24/02/2005 10:06

morning all

snowsnowsnowsnow.......lovely

prufrock, that is totally the kind of thing that i do (penicillin). loved it. bless you

libb, glad you and dh aren trying, even though men's idea is completely different in that dept. reading men are mars made me understand that. and i do try and remember it at grrrr times.

hi linnet! nice to hear from you.

yes spots, the lack of sleep was insomnia not dd, although she was doing the usual waking, i used to be able to sleep in between. well last night she did me proud bless her. must have known i was feeling rubbish. i went to bed at 830 ish. dd woke at 12 and drank loads as she didnt take more than a couple of oz at bedtime. she then went through until 615am. bless. drank more (to give mummy more sleep) and woke at 940. later than me. so i feel much better.

going to a friend's house for afternoon tea today.. eeek, bit worried about driving in snow. last year ended up in hosp being 6 months preg after crashing my car on the ice. eeeek

Bozza · 24/02/2005 10:14

Ooh yes Egypt remember your accident. I didn't find the roads too bad but that totally depends what its like where you are. Glad you are feeling a bit more human again. And you too Susi.

cat82 · 24/02/2005 10:41

Morning everyone,

Egypt- So glad things are looking up a little for you hun.

Georgina- Glad cc went okay. When was it your birthday?! You sent me such a nice prezzie for mine i'd feel awful if i missed it!!

Ahhh Prufrock- I have many, many moments like that, put it down to house buying stress

GeorgeousGirl- Hope Ds improves soon!

Linnet- lovely to hear from you.

Helsy- Another ear offer hear if you need to chat {{{hugs}}}

Okay...i have made a decision....i'm gonna start a new thread!!!!

GeorginaA · 24/02/2005 11:20

Well, I thought we'd been a bit naturally unhealthy for a couple of minutes. Ds1 has just been sent home from nursery with a high fever and shivering - and he was fine this morning when we sent him!! Here we go again.

Susi: I have two cameras - a small Canon Ixus II that gets taken around with me everywhere - a lovely camera for point and shoot and a fairly decent manual mode for more complex stuff. Great autofocus, bit disappointed with the red eye though. The other is a Canon G5 (can you tell I like Canons?!) - much more customisable in terms of exposure, etc... I prefer it as a camera, but I don't take it around everywhere with me because it's a bit big - not easy to slip into the pocket. Again, red eye is a bit flaky. Still, red eye is fairly easy to fix in Photoshop or Paintshop Pro.

BTW, what do you think, I've been playing with saturation on Paintshop Pro and come up with this photo of ds2 (taken back in October)? I'm quite pleased with the effect.

cat: oops. I was supposed to keep schtum about that - didn't want you to feel you ought to reciprocate!

[whisper] 5th Feb [/whisper]

GeorginaA · 24/02/2005 11:25

Um that should have read UNnaturally HEALTHY.

Messed up that joke, didn't I?!

GeorginaA · 24/02/2005 12:18

Well, ds1 is quite easy to look after - he's so out of it, he's just fallen asleep on the sofa while watching his Thomas DVD - poor mite

Ds2 is teething and requiring lots of attention (yes, I'm sure this time, and I have the blood drawn teethmarks on my arm to prove it) and I feel really guilty that I haven't been able to give ds1 lots of cuddles

egypt · 24/02/2005 12:26

ahhhh, little loves georgina....bless.

wow, stunning pic! what blue eyes. very clever.

new thread? off to find....

sarahplus2 · 24/02/2005 14:57

oooh you clever thing georgina what a seriously cute photo. how come when a man has a cold its always so bad they call it flu but when we have a cold its just a snuffle and we have to soldier on?! lifes a bitch. well ive been to the doc and got a low dose happy pill as ive been so low recently and just couldnt get to sleep even tho dd2 wakes up at least once a night and i am so knackered all the time, im just now waiting to feel a bit perkier any ideas of finger foods btw as dd2 wont eat anything of a spoon anymore and im running out of ideas?
