what pram? what pram?
says the overexcited woman with 3 parked out back as she types.
congratulations on the house.

and glam, oh no how are you all doing now?

wearehipsandmakers · 07/05/2008 13:54

I managed to persuade DH that I needed a Phil and Ted- helped by the fact that DS (3yrs old) has survival instincts of a crazed lemming and we live very near a main road so I didn't fancy relying on a buggy board.
It's very embarassing to realise that this is our 6th pram in three yrs- admittedly the first 2 were hand me downs that just didn't suit us. the mamas and papas 3-wheeler (known unaffectionately as 'the beast') has sat in the garage for 2 years- it was bought in a period of acute sleep deprivation 4 weeks after DS was born.the main buggy for DS has been a £40 Maclaren. But we can't use it till Evie is 6 months old. There ought to be some kind of pram library. Who knows what they're going to need beforehand? Or are other people better at thinking things through? Dear God we've got to buy a house soon!

merryberry · 07/05/2008 14:18

pram library - what a great idea. the phil and ted's are great, i bought mine 2nd hand of a mate and already have a 3rd hander buyer lined up.

one handed steering, one finger even on the flat. glorious. so responsive, until you forget to pump the tires down and then knacker yuor hands oversteering! silly of me

merryberry · 07/05/2008 14:19

pump tires up. up.

can you tell i've had a week fo child/baby sickness in my house and extremely little sleep?

sigh

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 07/05/2008 19:27

DD is still deaf with her ear infection and in some pain but DS seems to have bounced back remarkably well.

A terrible thing happened to me last night. Whilst putting the washing away last night I picked up what I thought was DS's fitted Moses basket sheet. It turned out to be a pair of my mahossive knickers. So the day I decide I really have to do something about my weight is also the day that we have a kilo of chocolate in the house courtesy of the vistors we've had over the last few days. Be strong Glam and remember the sheet/knicker debacle.

On the plus side DS is now in his cot (he can spread his arms out!!!) so I won't ever have to see that sheet again .

merryberry · 08/05/2008 08:14

god that's toast crumbs in the keyboard funny glam

we're making garden tents later today. between mine and your knickers sounds lkike i woudn't need blankets ;)

sorry to hear about your dd's ears, i hope she isn't too unhappy and she gets better soon. are you housebound with her?

i've got my painful joints back after a day spent superfeeding george as he caught up from his cold/reflux/posset inhalation when he ate very little. his nappies and poo are quite dry, poor lamb. if they don't get better by lunchtime i'm going to give him extra water.

talking of baby poo, i made vanilla ice cream on monday, with huge amounts of vanilla bean in. when i eat some, his poo later smells really strongly of vanilla! i've never noticed this so much with any other food stuff. i didn't tell dp, and even he noticed!

HolidaysQueen · 08/05/2008 11:04

I'm sat here snorting because I had a similar "oh my god my knickers are massive" moment last night when I realised they contain the same amount of fabric as one of my vest tops Not that I can wear the vest tops anymore because the fabric in those is only enough to cover one of my boobs at the moment let alone both of them and a wobbly belly...

I'm feeling a bit sad because DS at not yet 6 weeks is almost too big for his moses basket. I wanted him in with us for 3 months, or until he had dropped his night feed if that was sooner, but it looks like he might have to move into his own room and the cotbed in the next couple of weeks. My little boy is growing up too fast

wearehipsandmakers · 08/05/2008 12:42

After Estragon-like pacing of floor ("they said they'd come today. [long pause] Why aren't they here? I'm waiting for citilink. [even longer pause]. They said they'd come.")my phil and teds arrived and have just taken it out on it's inaugural voyage- slightly hampered by the fact that I lost the instruction manual and couldn't get the wheel to swivel. got home and found it.obviously. I like it a lot.. A little concerned about where to put all the shopping I can now do. Although, as DH pointed out, after spending that much on a pram I can't buy anything anyway!
Re the uber-pants situation, Glam, your post inspired me to think about losing weight- I had my 6 week check yesterday and there is sadly no excuse for not exercising anymore. . Then, I popped into greggs to get something for lunch, which I got, and also,
without even thinking, something for elevenses. As I pushed my pram home one handed while eating a pasty I couldn't help but reflect that the pregnancy mindset is hard to erase. Also my mother would have kittens if she could see me!

e14mum · 08/05/2008 12:50

Glam- too funny! I've lost your email address- still up for baby massage sometime? Or even just a coffee? eliebean @ hotmail.com

DD being a bit off this week. Not sure if she's not feeling well or what. 1 or 2 feeds/day she will refuse the boob, but then take a bottle. However, today she cries even with the bottle in her mouth, and she keeps spitting up tons of milk and farting/pooing at the same time. Not really done anything like it before now. Any suggestions? What seems to help is feeding her lying down- bottle too!

spugs · 08/05/2008 15:15

glam - poor you (and los) with your a&e trips. hope theres no more

werehips - lucky you with the new pushchair i love pushchairs and cant help looking at them everytime i go to mothercare even though i have finally found my perfect one (bugaboo cameleon) i like the idea of the pram libary though as you never know how good they are till youve given them a really good test drive.maybe thats why everyones seems to end up with loads.

agree on the big knickers, ive chucked all mine out they were ginormus(sp?!!!!) belly warmers that once my bump had gone came up to my belly button.has anyone managed to get rid of the jelly belly yet? mines flat when i suck it in (so not very often) but still has that horrible blobby thing going on! i didnt have this with the last two, silly question but is it fat or fluid or what??

missingmyheels - ive not given iz any extra water just an extra ounce or two of milk when shes wanted it. if the babys fontanel is dipped then thats a sign of dehydration so no harm in giving a bit of boiled water if your worried.

its boiling up here and weve been out most of the time making the most of it. iz is wearing vest, a romper and sometimes a cardy. some people do seem to have there babies very wrapped up. saw one yesterday with one of those huge white frilly cosy toes and baby had on wool hat and pink velour tracky top poor mite must have been rosting. the pram had one of those dummies hanging on it, does anyone else have these where they are and know the point? there silver and on either pink or blue ribbon hanging off the pram hood!

fitnfortyone · 08/05/2008 15:36

blimey it's hot

Had a lovely day yesterday, 2nd session with cranial osteo yesterday which luckily seemed to produce the sleeping reaction rather than last week's crying! Then went to visit a friend for lunch, but by the time i'd got there, fed and changed eddie and we'd got to the pub they'd stopped serving! So we went for a stroll along the riverside with eddie and the dog (who got a good swim to cool down) then stopped for icecream on the way back .
Got my first comments about the Xplory as well, some woman wanted to know where i'd got it so she could let her daugher know (after seeing the collapsing wheels in action to get up steps) and loads of others thought the steps action was great. Must get out more
Oh, and didn't need any work doing at the dentist after all, but met some old dear in the waiting room with an abcess who said we'd made her day with our gorgeous little boy. How nice to have other people let you know you're not just biased on your LO's good looks

Water - keep trying to give eddie some, but he screws up his face or just lets it dribble straight back out again - how are you getting it down your LO's throat, those successfully watering theirs?

fitnfortyone · 08/05/2008 15:38

oh, and parents are over next week, my dad making his first visit to see his grandson. Have already threatened ed that we'll wrap him up and post him over to his grandad if he screams too much
Got some free tix to the Baby Show, so will be heading off to the NEC next friday where i'll hopefully see my mum spend loads of money instead of me

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 08/05/2008 18:03

Where is Derah? Hope she's ok.

merryberry · 08/05/2008 19:51

saw derah here recently (0128 hours), but i wasn't chatty due to endless kids with colds scenario

merryberry · 09/05/2008 07:45

i'm getting married on the 19th june. just checked my formal email and there's the date from the register office. no guests, just to share the family name and make all the legalities easier in future. i love other people's weddings, but never hankered for one myself. but now i've got the date, i feel sort of scared! wondering how it might change me and dp together. hoping its for some kind of better, though we're happy enough as is.

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 09/05/2008 10:51

Congratulations merry! That sounds lovely. It's good when you feel like you can have the marriage you want. I hope the sun shines for you all.

merryberry · 09/05/2008 10:59

cheers mama, i hope it is fun. suprisingly hard to arrange witnesses - everyone working or doing school runs! am now eyeing up our retired neighbours.

how's your dd getting on?

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 09/05/2008 11:06

DS is sniffling again and just wanting to snack frequently. DD is feeling better but still deaf. She'll be going back to school on Monday hopefully.
I'm not feeling all that brilliant but trying to think positive wellness thoughts. I might chuck DP out of bed in a minute (he had a disturbed night) as I think my rightful place is under the duvet.

I din't reply properly to your post before (not very with it today). It sounds like your relationship won't change that much as you said the marriage is a formality. There's a big difference between a wedding and a marriage and it sounds like you've got the whole partnership sewn up already. Will you be a Mrs? I wasn't last time, if there is another time I may consider it. But somehow I can't imagine another time for me!

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 09/05/2008 11:08

whole partnership thing (I meant).

merryberry · 09/05/2008 11:23

i think i might be a mrs...walking around with 2 kids looking middle class and middle aged makes people call me it all the time anyway...i feel like going with the flow.

i hate the snacking thing. gg is doing it too as he struggles still to clear his chest, i'm never sure he's full enough or comfy enough or well, anything enough i hope you have a good rest now!

got to go and get ds1's first pre-school assessment thingy done next today. don't know what it will be like! 'ds1 worked hard at stacking bricks last term and is slowly learning not to pick his nose in public' ???

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 09/05/2008 12:25

haha, the irony......

My Decree Absolut has just come through the letterbox. Yipeee, finally undone a mistake I made many years ago. I have DD though from that ill fated liaison so one good thing came out of it.

Wahey , I'm a Divorcee!!!

fitnfortyone · 09/05/2008 13:17

congrats to both merry and glam!

Have to find time somewhere this weekend to tidy the house in prep for parents arrival on monday. At the very least that means making up the spare room and getting bedding sorted. My dad plans to do diy in the kitchen while he's here so i'm not going overboard tidying that up as it'll be chaos afterwards.

LO very frustrating at the moment. Food time goes something like this:

shove fingers in mouth with alternate hands;
eyes light up as muslin put round neck, more fingers in mouth;
bottle in mouth but fingers not yet out of mouth, milk spills all over muslin;
get hand out of mouth, attempt to grab bottle but bat it out of mouth...several times;
grin at frustrated mummy;
suck for a good bit then pretend to be still sucking until muslin removed and mouthful of milk dribbles out over vest;
Fall asleep on mum's chest, lull her into false sense of security then just as she goes to put LO down flat, scream blue murder for 5-10 mins until a pathetic burp comes up.

Meanwhile, have also got to contend with dodgy pooch - had to take him to the vet yesterday when i discovered he'd chewed a big gaping hole in his fur by his tail, and he's now on antibiotics to clear the infection caused by his rather full anal glands. Bless him for nearly taking my hand off when investigating where it hurt.

merryberry · 09/05/2008 13:20

time for a name change glam?
happyglamdivorceeformerlyknownasglam? loving our timing
laughing (supportively, if that is possible) at fn41's tease of a baby

imjin100 · 09/05/2008 13:27

hi all - hope you've all had the chance to enjoy this beautiful weather - amazing!
all fine with us - I say that but actually having a tough couple of days. Our angel baby at 7 weeks has decided sleeping is for wimps so the nights are tough and today when he went down for a sleep I planned to hop into bed myself hoping to catch up and bang on 45 minutes later the little man was screaming. I've tried a few options but to no avail and have now bravely turned off the monitor, closed the door and left him to it. I feel too exhausted to deal with it right now having been up all night. Anyway - I feel awful leaving him getting himself in a state hence logged onto mumsnet to occupy my mind in the hope that he drops off when I'm not listening!
this motherhood game can be quite trying can't it - lovely but by heck tough too!
