Welcome March Mums (and late Feb/early April Mums!) from the March 2008 threads.

MB-You poor thing! Big hugs to you.
I think everyone knows how I feel about breastfeeding, so wont whine anymore.
I have a terrible admission...I finally got around to having sex with DH for first time since birth this morning, and about a minute into it I suddenly thought "Oh dear, we should be careful..." and then did nothing about it. Slightly concerned, but not really. Am I mad? Will be careful from now on. We have agreed to start trying again in September.

MissingMyHeels · 04/06/2008 14:24

Broody? God no, was petrified after an accident last month, had to get MAP! Trying again in Sept turtle? You're very mad brave

Oh mb - that sounds like the type of day I had yesterday! Hope it flys by and tomorrow is much better.

I've been a bit mad too - no abseiling but 10 day family hol to France and then a weekend on my own to Ibiza in August. Scary and exciting!!

MrsPhas3 · 04/06/2008 14:26

I'm really sulking today, and feel ashamed of myself when there are so many other people with proper problems (bfing, sickness, illness, etc, etc), but sometimes I just need to sulk. Had crap night last night, fed every two hours, where normally he has one feed between 10.30 and 7 ish. He's barely slept since, dd2 didn't want to go into playgroup (she did eventually), I've eaten 3 wagon wheels and 2 packs of crisps this morning, my nose is itchy and might by shitty hayfever, my hair looks crap but my appointment isn't for another 2 weeks - can't think of anything else at present. But I should feel overjoyed, all fittable-inable jeans were dirty this morning, so out of desperation plunged into size 12 part of jean drawer, held breath and tried - they have done up!! Slightly unpleasant overhang, but long t-shirt is hiding that. I should be feeling over the moon, but I just want to sleep. Now ds is whining, can't be arsed to entertain, he is going straight on my boob.

MrsPhas3 · 04/06/2008 14:26

sorry

merryberry · 04/06/2008 14:27

good on you MMH, i didn't manage a weekend on my own until (counts on fingers) ds1 was 19 months old.

drilling replaced by weird pumping noise. so maybe it will all be over soon.

HolidaysQueen · 04/06/2008 14:27

Yesterday's jabs seems to have upped DS's appetite so we're feeding feeding feeding today. Tried the widgey cushion again for first time since about 3 weeks and it has really helped his positioning which had started to get a bit dodgy and he's feeding well. Plus I can read and knit while doing it. So I'm a slightly happer breastfeeding mummy today

tummy time is a mystery to me - DS will quite happily push himself up and look around if he's on either of our chests when we're lying down, but the minute i put him on his playmat in the same position he just shuffles his legs a bit then mewls like a kitten... I might be taking him to Gymboree if only because they specifically say they focus on tummy time... Gotta hot-house my PFB...

turtle - you naughty girl DH and I are definitely not broody and will not be trying for at least a year but I have to admit we did have a slight contraceptive failure a few weeks ago and decided to be ostrich-like about it rather than do anything practical . I've not yet had a period so we're assuming that the combination of almost exclusively breastfeeding, no periods yet and at least attempting to use contraception properly are enough to make the odds of a pregnancy almost akin to an immaculate conception... At what point should I really worry about not having had a period yet and go and buy a pregnancy test?

HolidaysQueen · 04/06/2008 14:28

MrsPhas3 - you've just made me and I'm now off to buy wagon wheels... God I love that marshmallow!

merryberry · 04/06/2008 14:32

HQ, try dropping a wagon wheel over your stomach, if it lands upside down, you're pregnant...

[shambles off, delirious with tiredness, babies finally asleep]

littleducks · 05/06/2008 08:03

hello everyone,

preggars good luck with the treatment
merry i was in bed at 8.30 last night, suddenly felt shakey and sick at los bedtime, with heavy head thought i may have caught the sun, hope you are feeling better today

dd is sudddenly extremely clingy, she wont even walk to the itchen without crying for me to take her or wants me to carry her down the stairs [sigh] and she was Miss Independent before baby came.

Am off on holiday next week, got the free pontins thing from on here, not really my usual cup of tea but was hoping dd could play on the beach.....anyone have tips, suggestions of what to take?

wearehipsandmakers · 05/06/2008 10:10

Preggars- hope everything is going well.
I also hope those of you who are struggling with breastfeeding are doing alright this morning- remember you are now one day closer to weaning! .
I have woken up this morning with my grumpy hat on. I am fed up of sterilizing bottles, emptying the dishwasher and hanging out washing which is all I seem to do these days. And to top it all, I have to go and 'fess up to the dentist that I broke a tooth 3 months ago and decided to wait for my regular check up to have it looked at. I really don't know if I thought it was going to heal itself or what. I hate going to the dentist. .
Supposed to be exchanging contracts tomorrow on our house tho' I'm amazed they still want to buy it with all the gloom in the housing market at the moment. DH suggested going and pulling out their TV aeriel (is that right? it doesn't look right) so they couldn't get the news! I thought that might create more problems than it solved.
and breeeeathe........

merryberry · 05/06/2008 12:47

"1,2,3,4,5"
?Once I caught a fish alive?
(and mummy bludgeoned it to death with a blunt brick, having heard the song over 40 times so far today)

wearehipsandmakers · 05/06/2008 14:28

DS's nursery think it's funny to take a classic rhyme and arbitrarily change the words so you and your toddler get cross when you can't sing it (twinkle twinkle chocolate bar, my dad drives a racing (or rusty- the ennunciation is not that clear but to be honest we were both wishing he'd never started to try to teach me it so we agreed to mumble something that could be either) car.) which just seems wilfully mean tbh.
dentist said my teeth were very clean- just a shame one of them was broken. however, the next appointment isn't for a month. hooray!
I've got my toddler asleep upstairs and DD fidgeting on her playmat- I'm hoping for the holy grail of them both being asleep At The Same Time.

wearehipsandmakers · 05/06/2008 14:50

I have finally managed to get some photos on my profile page. I will, I will join the 21st century.

merryberry · 05/06/2008 16:08

beautiful photos, lovely

turtle23 · 05/06/2008 21:46

Oh dear. I put DS to bed this evening at the foot of his cot. I have just gone into his room to get something and he is at the top of his cot pressed up against the bars. Do I bother moving him? Glad I took all the soft toys out that were there just a few days ago.

hello from canada!

flight over (7hrs to Toronto) was really great - LO was an angel, she slept ate or flirted with the stewardessed for the entire duration and I watched 3 movies!! was so proud of her. have a few general suggestions for everyone and a few specific for future air canada patrons:.

  1. The worst part is getting from home to gate (AC ground staff CRAP, in flight staff lovely), particularly the nursing issue (nursing room at lhr is far, horrid and has no chairs!!!). If I were to do it over, I would take ebm/ff and feed via bottle for that part f the journey.
  2. Don't know if this is just me or common but I suffered from milk supply issues on the flight and for the first day here (have recitified with sleep and gatorade), I think maybe dehydration/exhaustion related but it scared me and LO was beside herself.
  3. Changing is harder than I thought - the 'tables' in the plane are hard for baby's head, no belt and awkward. I changed her on my sweater instead - gross but more safe/secure.
  4. Even if you are philosophically opposed to dummy, I would still take one just in case. Hour six on the plane would have been quite different without it I feel :.)
  5. Eating was hard with small tray that LO kept kicking but manageable bc we were in the bulk head. You must get the bulkhead! (bassinets not assured on Air Can, but only given first come first serve at check in! I did not know this and was v. cross).
  6. Take hot and cold clothles. I took warm sleepers and the plane eneded up being hot and we were on top of eachother the whole flght. She was really flushed (as was I) upon arrival.

Love to everyone having feeding issues. I am the first to admit that I love/hate it. Ours is going fairly well and I still clench my teeth/jaw to its. Sometimes I really have a problem being that close another person (even the babY!) all day - feels a bit claustrophobic. I did however find a great bottle for ebm and the occasional ff that I have been doing - see dr. brown's breast bottle. lo loves it, even takes from me and she had never done that before. the day i had the supply issues she took 250 ml of formula in about 10 mins, right next to my breast!

also, just fyi but the growth chart in the red book they give you is for formula babies only. there is a special insert that you can ask for that recalibrates the chart for breast exclusive babies.

lo has been a bit off with the time change - not really sure when to eat and gets tired more quickly, like when she was a newborn. but she has been sleeping better at night which works for me. she also seems to have grown/developed to the next stage overnight - just since here she has been loving tummy time (hated before), has rolled over and GASP is showing signs of early teething.
