Welcome March Mums (and late Feb/early April Mums!) from the March 2008 threads.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 09/05/2008 14:02

oops

e14mum · 09/05/2008 14:26

How did you manage that one glam?
imjin- it's tres tough. Well done for getting this far.
LO is sleeping... disrupting the feed-wake-sleep pattern I try to set out as she fell asleep right after her feed, but hopefully this will all right itself by tonight

merryberry · 09/05/2008 15:53

the brother thing is kicking in! yay! gg actually rolled onto his side to better see what ds1 was doing before their naps...and ds1 knew straight away that a) this was good and b) that gg did it 'for me'

magic magic magic! not tired anymore i'm grinning so much!

LookingForwardToSummer · 10/05/2008 11:16

merry and glam - congratulations to you both. how sweet that los are starting to realise that they are bros.

went to cranial osteopath yesterday - had to wait so long for appt that dd has calmed down in the meantime and i was worried about the 24 hour scream potential. it was the weirdest thing i don't really believe in the sort of stuff and yet it did seem to do something. she very gently touched dd,s head and was saying 'come on, you're nearly there, you've got lots of space' etc. i nearly laughed because it seemed so daft but dd was really concentrating and listening and then went all screwed up and red and huffed and puffed for a bit. apparently she was remembering being born and the thing was it really did look like it - she looked just how she did when first passed to me and hasn't done since! she didn't cry so apparently that means she didn't find the birth too traumatic but may have had an uncomfortable shoulder as she twisted a bit. gone on a bit there - but it was just so odd!

loving this weather! hurrah for bbqs!!

HolidaysQueen · 10/05/2008 17:06

Ugh! So much for the summer weather here in west London... We had a torrential downpour here just as I was feeding DS in the park and DH was doing the food shopping. I ended up under a tree breastfeeding standing up with him covered in a muslin (note to self - muslins have many uses but rain cover is not one of them) while hailstone and rain bounced through the branches, and thunder and lightning passed right overhead. Poor DS was soaked but didn't murmur - too interested in his food, bless him! I eventually managed to find DH (he'd forgotten his phone, grr...) and get baby changed into something dry but I squelched all the way home...

Congrats, glam and merry! Merry - even if you don't want a full-on wedding I think we need to have a full-on virtual hen night like we did for timmy

e14mum · 10/05/2008 17:33

Tomorrow is Mother's Day in Canada- so for all of us who missed it here in March: Happy Mother's Day!!

3madboys · 10/05/2008 17:49

oh dear (((hugs)) to all those that are/have been poorly.

we are all surviving here, have had some VERY tough days tho.

have just packed away all my little baby clothes, have some to give to friends etc and am keeping a few special baby bits, but most of it is going as four is enough, or at least thats what i sort of think, and then every now and then i think, maybe? aghhhhhhh bloody hormones.

anyway Rudi now wears 6-9mths clothes and is sixteen pounds, he is really long and is going to have to go in the pushchair seat on the bugaboo soon as he is almost too long for the carrycot, he is 8wks old today, a very smiley baby but a sod if he gets overtired, which he does, its soo hard to get him to sleep as he fights to stay awake during the day, at the moment he is asleep in my bed which seems to be t he only way to get him to have a decent sleep during the day and even that doesnt always work.

infact i can hear him squaking now, needs feeding again, still totally bfed amazingly as i have had some really hard days, but we are getting there, i can tell when he is windy, tired, hungry, etc now

derah · 10/05/2008 21:25

Hello ladies! Just popping my head in. Sorry I haven't been around, but I guess that if I get a free second from the madness of baby I'd kinda rather read threads about things about stuff other than more babies, IYKWIM? No offence!

We're fine though, Allie is doing much better and has even kinda slept through the past 3 nights.

Thanks for texting me to let me know I was missed, Turtle!

Hope you're all well, and I'll catch up with you all soon....

Prisci · 11/05/2008 02:24

Hi everyone, Sorry I did not post for a while but had my mother visiting etc... it is amazing how someone coming to 'help' means making more work really, but I loved it. It was very good indeed to have her around especially since we have lived in different countries for the past 12 years (me and my crazy need to study abroad and then work abroad). I had not had such quality time with her for a long long time, but it also meant entertaining her as she is very dynamic indeed, DP was sweet enought to take her Jetskying and Salsa dancing wilst I either waited either at the dock or at home with LO.
LO also has had the 3 weeks growth spur last week, and it was mad, at the worst of it he fed almost non stop a whole day, the fact that the weather is pretty hot and humid is not helping either since he needs to drink even more. I felt so bad last friday, I took LO for a short ride in the car without the AC and when I took him out, he was all sweaty and the next day, had a heat rash. But he was very sweet about it, he did not even cry nor scratch himself. Bless him.
In terms, of breaspump I have the medela swing, and it really works for me but then I started with small boobs indeed. The only downside, is that by the end of it, it looks as if my nipples are like huge strawberries. I really enjoy expressing in the sense I can leave LO with DP on saturday am to look after myself and there is enough to feed LO etc....
I am coming to the UK in two weeks and just can't wait. Seeing friends and doing some shopping. I can't beleive I have not bought one piece of cloth in the past 5 months, I am usually a shop addict indeed but being in Bermuda, has completely put me off the idea, since the choice is limited or is completely overpriced, for example a pot of organic rachel 250gr yoghurt is £5 etc...

Tomorrow, been invited to a white party, how can anyone invite a postnatal person to wear white, what about clothes whom makes you look slimmer or less squidgy. I have lost a lot of weight so far but my tummy needs so much work. Thanks to the Hotsling which meand I can hide my tummy with it and BF at the same time etc...

spugs · 11/05/2008 08:29

congrats to glam and merry

3boys- ive put away my newborn stuff now or given it to my cousin whos due in 5 weeks but cant decide whether to keep it or not. have said this is definitly the last one but then cant imagine never being pregnant or having a newborn again!!

glam - thats so sweet about gg and his brother, my dd2 (2yrs) can occassionally be fairly gentle but has to be watched like a hawk as she would much prefer to pick iz up by her headv

3madboys · 11/05/2008 12:30

PRISCI, i was just looking at the hotslings on the web, but the site is american, can you get them delivered to the UK? they look fab, esp for nursing a larger baby as you can do it in a more upright position which ds4, would prefer only i cant work out how much one would cost, the price is in dollars, and doesnt mention the £ equivalent?

does anyone have any ideas as they look fab

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 11/05/2008 14:04

3madboys sorry, I don't know anything about hotslings.

spugs it's merryberry's cute boys who do the brother thing. I just have a DD who like to hug DS really tight as she loves him so much . [whispering emoticon] I do bottles the same way as you. Worked for my sister's 3 kids and is working well for us too.

Just realised I spelt "absolute" wrong in my divorce post. Not sure why I chose the vodka spelling . Gosh, I fancy a Pimms now. I've been clearing out the balcony after it has been overwintering- for "overwintering" read full of shite.

Prisci good to hear from you. We're having Bermuda weather here except we're sadly lacking a dock and a beach.

Derah totally understand the not wanting to read about more babies. Glad to hear that Allie is doing better.

Everyone else, enjoy your Sunday, sunny or not!

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 11/05/2008 14:05

oh and e14mum I'll get in touch very soon. There's baby massage on wed if you fancy it.

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 11/05/2008 14:11

Just tried to email you e14mum. Didn't work.......

merryberry · 11/05/2008 19:37

LOL overwintering Glam! DP pressure washed our 'garden' (aka concrete patch) today. It was like a cartoon - came up masses of foamy bubbles as ds1 and I spent so many hours bundled up, outside in winter blowing bubbles when I was too tired/lazy/late PG to take him anywhere else!

MissingMyHeels · 11/05/2008 19:53

3madboys - I have a hotsling - arrived incredibly quickly from www.littlepossums.co.uk

fitnfortyone · 11/05/2008 21:19

sigh, LO is lying between us on the sofa trying to suffocate himself as usual with his head thrown back and nose pressed into the cushion According to the grobag egg temperature guage thing, it's 26.1 degrees inside and we've had windows and doors open all day...Had to go buy a 1 tog sleeping bag yesterday as the 2.5 tog is too hot and LO kicks off any lighter sheets/blankets i try to cover him in!

Parents arriving tomorrow, dad going back on thurs but mum staying on until following tues so think i'll have internet withdrawal for a bit...don't have anything too exciting happen while i'm socialising!

3madboys · 11/05/2008 21:37

thanks missingmyheels, i did find some when i googled uk sites and little possums is one i found, good to have a recomendation tho

do you find the sling good? it looks like it has good positions for bfeeding and is easy, no fiddling etc. i am wondering whether to try one out, one site lets you return them if you dont get on with it, so i wont be wasting money ifykwim? i already have 3 slings.....

MarchNowFebMum · 12/05/2008 00:04

Can I just say that I LOVE slings (I have a Tri cotti) - went to a party Sat night ad DD satyed in quiet as can be the entire time. Imagine many of the drunk people didn't even know I was carrying a baby!

DH took the baby today (well, except for feeds) so I could get some time for myself and get some admin type stuff done that has been piling up. Was so good to get a break and to seem struggle (and triumph) over the many things I do in a day. Was good for all three of us.

Had BCG shot on Thursday and no side effects - apparently it will show it's reaction in 8 weeks time. 3 month (gasp! can't believe it's here) shots this week.

Happy Mother's Day to all the North Americans! And hello to all....

Seeing as talk has turned to slings - anyone know of one that can be worn on your back for a little baby? I know you can get them for when the baby is about 6 mths but wondered if there is one for smaller babies. We're going on hols soon and will probably do a lot of walking - DH would rather wear DS on his back if poss as it will be comfier.

Just got back from HV for 6 week measurements - I can't believe we hit that milestone today! DS has settled onto 50th centile in last few weeks (was about 85th at birth but we had a few feeding problems which thankfully seemed to get sorted at about 4 weeks) but he is 75th for height. Not only does he look like his dad, but he's going to be tall and slim like him too!

I just bought some chocolate, some biscuits AND some ice cream from Waitrose to celebrate getting to 6 weeks. From now on the baby sleeps through the night, smiles all the time and hardly ever cries, right?

HolidaysQueen · 12/05/2008 12:05

e14mum - was thinking of you at my weigh in today - just wondering how the mixed feeding is going with Hero and if it has helped in her weight gain?

merryberry · 12/05/2008 13:36

ha, hq, ha. if only heh!? if we're lucky we get 2/3 of from around week 12!

i am gagging for the sleeping through one. It's nearly a year of never sleepingmore than 4 hours at a time. At the best measure.

merryberry · 12/05/2008 13:36

i mean nearly a year so far, including all the pg wees.

spugs · 12/05/2008 15:26

HQ - i wish dd2 only startted sleeping properly through the night when dd3 was born and she was nearly 2 must say thoough were getting lots more smiles, she does rarely smile and most nights she only wakes up once [smug emoticon]

were going to a rhyme time class tomorrow, no idea what they do other then im guessing it involves rhyme! will keep us out of trouble

i was wondering how much formula other peoples babies are taking, iz is only ff and has 6 oz every 3 hours during the day and then one feed (or two if im unlucky) over night. her weights going up over the line and 6 oz seems a lot for 7 weeks. i saw a baby today who was only 5 days old and was only 1oz lighter then iz at birth and it looked tiny, cant even remember her being that small they grow up so quick
