Hi CHACHA! You're better than me - your dh is a lucky man! . Glad you're feeling brighter (and that you're trying out some of TWINKLES advice) - weather here lovely too. Agree, everything 'lifts' with a bit of brightness!
Dh back tonight so I get a 'lie-in' tomorrow . Going to try mexican fahitas with quorn instead of chicken tonight - will let you knwo how it goes CHACHA as I know you are a quorn fan too .

GreedyGecko · 09/02/2008 00:37

Oh god, I think there's one up here. I hate it, I just want to get out, I can hear noises, it's horrible. I want to see if it is something else making the noises, but I really don't want to look. Right, music on so I can't hear anything.

ChaCha · 09/02/2008 08:17

GG - There is a thread on Good Housekeeping section of MN about mice. Can your local council help? I hope you are able to get rid of them asap, I read too many of those James Herbert books when I was younger and mice/rats really freak me out. Let us know how it goes x

Diege · 09/02/2008 09:51

Morning . Oh GG, can't you get someone from environmental health round? We've had them round a while back when we had them in the garage, and think they have to respond pretty quickly, esp if you have LOs (tell them you have a baby, which you do - sort of!)Might be worth a call? Apologies if you've already gone down that route!
CHACHA, I used to love those James Herbert/Stephen King books as a teenager. It was Pet Cemetary that really freaked me out!
Well beautiful day here, but the marking calls so it may as well be raining for me! The deadline is officially MOnday, but as I've taken an extra 50 they've given me an extension that I'll be lucky to meet too! At least when I get my money from them I can pay off my Next Directory account and get straight! The summer money from marking is going to go on one of those new bugaboo bees for beanie 4 that will hopefully happen some time in the summer months!!!

Diege · 10/02/2008 15:02

babyonboard · 10/02/2008 18:30

I just found the DC's hamster dead. I am really sad about it and don't even know if I can explain to DS. He watches her everyday so will certainly miss her.

Should I just get a new one, or do a burial ceremony?

Diege · 10/02/2008 20:32

Hi TWINKLE! Wednesday sounds great; yes, see in foodcourt at 11! .
BOB, oh no!!! If you read down the thread you'll see we had a similar dilemma a month or so ago . After much soul-searching (and a few phone calls to pet-shops) we went for the burial thing, which was upsetting, but I think the better option. Having said that, my dds are older and probably 'ready' for that sort of approach. I think if it was just dd3, I would have gone down the replacement route for sure.

Diege · 10/02/2008 20:34

Oh and the house was great (if a bit of a '70s vibe going on ) and we are certainly interested in putting in an offer. First we need to get an offer in on our house though! Fingers crossed that the grumpy old codger comes good!

babyonboard · 11/02/2008 00:43

Thanks Diege. I read through but missed what you did in the end?

Well she is in a big matchbox wrapped in tissue outside the door right now and we will be burying her at sea tomorrow
(throwing into the thames when we take a walk to Greenwich )

I have been made to feel unreasonably sentimental, DP and my mum said to just put her in the bin.

It's the tots first pet , and even though they won't notice when we get a new one, it's still sad, surely!

On a lighter note, what do you think of this as a bridesmaid dress? I need to sort them out sharpish, and they look pretty lovely!?

babyonboard · 11/02/2008 00:44

oops www.coast-stores.com/fcp/product/-//Premier-Maxi-Dress/2224626851

novadandypowder · 11/02/2008 08:27

That dress looks fab BoB, Coast and Monsoon do that thing really well. I actually wish I'd known that before choosing my bridesmaids dresses, looking back we went for totally the wrong style. It's also something they could wear again if going to a formal do.

Diege · 11/02/2008 10:49

Agree with NOVA BOB, that dress is gorgeous! Re: our hamster (Nibbles) we gave her a proper burial in the garden. She was put in a box with her favourite toy and some hamster choccy drops, and the dds gave her a stroke on the nose before sealing it up. Feel quite sad actually thinking about it (esp in light of how she died) and don't think you're being overly sentimental at all! Think there's something quite odd actually about putting a much loved pet in the rubbish bin!
Well, dds off with dh to visit Conwy castle, while I'm at work (half term here). I should make the most of the peace as it's my turn with them wed/thurs/fri, Speak later, x

ChaCha · 11/02/2008 14:52

Lovely dress BoB and glad to hear DC's hamster will have proper burial. Always sad when a loved family pet dies. Will you get another do you think?

I'm just popping in really, nothing much to report. Lovely but exhausting weekend which has left me and the DC in need of a rest. I don't seem to do v.late night and travelling too well these days...[big yawn]

Hope everyone is well. L&S Mum - wondering if you are off on holiday yet, am sure it was sometime soon.

x

twinkle1 · 11/02/2008 15:13

BLOODY HELL!!!!!
Builders turn up at 9.40am after i run back from school in case i miss them.
Then stay 2hrs and go saying "will be back tommorow to start properly"!!!!
Why did me and DH kill ourselves to get everything sorted for them coming last night!!!!!! GRRRRRRrrrrrrr
Sorry rant over.
Diege looking forward to wednesday
Babyonbosrd sorry about the hamster. All my DC have been sad when pets died, but liked buying some plants to plant where we buried them in the garden
Chacha sounds like a good weekend I also dont do late nights, stop/start car journeys(due to throwing up) and long periods without food. The amount of rubbish i eat i should have put on a stone!!!!!! so far have only managed to put on 1 lb but i still look like i have a space hopper up my jumper,ah well.
Must go and pick up the sprogs
Twinkle

Diege · 11/02/2008 18:28

TWINKLE, I think there must be a builder 'go slow gene'; have you ever met any that get there early, refuse cups of tea, don't break off 30 minutes after arriving for a bacon butty and a read of the Mirror, take early lunch, then finish mid-afternoon as there's no point starting the next phase till tomorrow? I feel your pain! .
Looking forward to Wednesday too - mmmm, subway . Is it a meatball melt for you?

Rodeo · 11/02/2008 20:27

Evening all
Diege, how's the marking going? LOL at you earmarking summer marking money for new pram, haven't seen the Bee, do they come in geat colours? Will go and google it! Hope the dd's enjoyed their castle visit, our half term is next week, hope this nice weather hangs around!
Twinkle, grrr at builders too. My mum wanted me and my sister to marry a builder (not a certain one, just any!). Or a mechanic, or an electrician ! For purely selfish reasons!
Bob, how did the sea burial go? Noooooo to the bin! Do you think you'll get another? Will look at dress after post, who are you a bridesmaid for? I've got a black tie and diamonds party to go to in a month (like I've got any diamonds!) and I'm panicking about getting a dress. Then there's shoes, hair, etc, that I've not even considered yet! Maybe I just won't go! The easy option!
Chacha, how are you managing with the 'incidents'? Mine get sent to their bedrooms for bad behaviour (with ideally minimal shouting from me, not always possible ) Jess get's put in her cot, we do it the Supernanny way (a minute per how many years old), then they have to come out and say Sorry, and then a quick hug and all's forgotten. Until the next time that is! Perfectly normal behaviour for children to hurt and want to hurt their siblings, just as the next minute they can be lovely with each other, just try to ignore the bad and praise the good. Really easy to write and read this kind advice, but realistically it's something you try and strive for. But we all try our best and that just has to do, so don't be hard on yourself
GG, are you still being terrorised by the mice? Get down the Cats Protection League! Our cat was threatened with them the other night after she poo'd under our dining table, the dirty beast. Hmm, on the other hand think I'd suffer mice over cat poo. Hope you get them sorted
Got the children a free poster from the Life in Cold Blood series with frogs, snakes and lizards on it - so if anybody's ds (or dd ) would like one then call 08707874455. It comes with an Open University magazine so I nearly threw the whole package, poster an'all, in the bin, so be warned
Bye for now x

GreedyGecko · 11/02/2008 21:36

That is a lovely dress bob, good choice. How did the 'burial' go? All of my pets were buried (and we always had at least 20 rabbits), definate no-no to throwing them out with the rubbish.

Diege, good to see you've already spent your marking money! Had a look at the bee. I don't like any of the trendy prams, none of the bugaboos, stokkes, phil & teds, and there's another trendy one that I think is ugly! And the bee doesn't change my mind!!! I really don't have the pram thing going on that I know a lot of people have.

Twinkle, bloody builders! Lets hope they pull their finger out tomorrow.

Mice still here, EHO coming tomorrow afternoon, then I'll be armed with my wire wool filling in any holes I find. Little b@$£%*d running around front room all evening.

Have booked summer holiday. We're going to stay in a caravan in Morecambe Bay. Looking forward to that, I've got somehting happening every month from March, just need something in Feb. Have seen a concert I want to go to, just have no-one who wants to join me. !!

ChaCha · 12/02/2008 10:08

Morning

More sunshine hurray, think i will mow the lawns this afternoon but contemplating how Will have to be done when they have lunch and can watch from window i think. Cannot wait for the summer and am so thrilled this will be a summer baby after having had two winter babies, was just thinking about car seat on pram, DS2 in front and DS1 either walking or on buggy board and feeling lump in my throat and then remembered Twinkle!! At least we'll have the summer, i know it will make a big difference for me.

LOL at builder chat, DH is a self-employed tradesman and tells me funny stories that go on on-site. Builders just have that reputation i guess. Major stress factor for those in need of work getting DONE.

Rodeo - Thanks Rodeo, think a lot of the problem has been DS2's getting in DS1's way when he's been busy doing his own thing. Is becoming quite a character!
I got the 'Breathing Places' calendar free courtesy of BBC/Open University, is also great, shows you pics of what to look for month by month and some useful info. This month we found last month's snowdrops and we went on a long walk last week to find frogs and bumblebees (DS1 is enjoying it as am i).

GG - Good news on what is hopefully end of mice invasion and nice to have a holiday to look fwd to. Boys will love it.

DH away as of weekend so looking fwd to a break, have mum and her DP up so help/company be nice too.

enjoy the sunshine xx

twinkle1 · 12/02/2008 12:54

Morning all,
Chacha, yep looking forward to summer baby no snow suits etc.The other three are Nov,Jan and march!!!!! so it was freezing for all of them.Im thinking of been able to sit in garden and go for walks etc
