Here we go! (or should I say here wii go!?). I'll try doing a link too...

Incidentally, I had a dream last night that Cerys suddenly learnt how to blow proper raspberries! Don't know where it came from but it could be that she has been trying since she was about 4 weeks old and did it entirely by accident yesterday!

'Animal'

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 17/03/2008 20:07

That's what my hair looks like these days.

Cross between animal and 'thing' from the Adams Family

HammerHeadShark · 17/03/2008 20:10

Isn't thing the hand thats always legging it about? Do you mean Cousin It, or if you do mean Thing you must have weird hair.

Arbensmum · 17/03/2008 20:11

have you decided what to do with your hair yet hopey?

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 17/03/2008 20:29

oh, not sure now, it's the thing that has hair all round it's head....

yes, cousin it... just googled it

Arbensmum, I'll see if I can find some images online then I can get some opinions.

sophus · 17/03/2008 20:57

My favourite Sesame St song:

"C is for cookie and that's good enough for me.
C is for cookie and that's good enough for me."

As sung by the cookie monster and brought to us by the letter C.

EdieMcredie · 17/03/2008 21:10

for you Kinki. You sound like you are doing an amazing job.

Having babies can be bad for your relationships I have also found!! (Arguing but nothing major)

Haven't got time to post much but was just wondering if anyone else has found that their DC's are getting more tired now they have started weaning? Millie seems to be so knackered all of the time and im worried...

PurpleLostPrincess · 17/03/2008 21:41

I know all the words to Muppet Babies, its one of my favourites!!! And I love Fraggle Rock too...

Anyway, sorry I've not been around lately ladies but Cerys has been really ill and every time I've sat down to catch up, something happens! Well, as you know, she has got bronchiolitis but she took a really bad turn on Saturday evening and I took her up to the out of hours doctors. She was really struggling to breathe and just wasn't right. They sent us up to the childrens ward to be admitted and we were all set to stay. They were all concerned because of her high temp last week as that isn't characteristic of bronchiolitis, it normally indicates a chest infection (apparently). Apart from that, everything was pointing towards it being bronchiolitis and her oxygen saturations were over 90% so they were happy for me to take her home, especially as we're literally 5 minutes away from the hospital. I got the distinct impression that they were short on beds too as they used her wound from the colostomy reversal and said they didn't want to put her at risk of infection but I overheard a nurse saying they had no cubicles left - tut!

So, I've been keeping her fluid levels up as much as possible and have taken her off solids for a few days just so I can get some milk into her. Her cotbed is tilted up and I'm putting her to sleep on her side instead of her back. Apart from that, its just a case of waiting for her to get better. In the meantime, DH has been helping my parents with all sorts of jobs so I've been here on my own. I didn't realise how much I had come to rely on him and have found it challenging and tiring but also refreshing in a way.

kinki OH MY GOODNESS!!!! So sorry I haven't been here to back up what everybody else is saying! Hope you don't mind me saying this but you sound just like I did 8 years ago before I split up with my xh. I'm the sort of person who always thinks its worth trying but I realised that I was doing 90% of the trying and a relationship is all about partnership which averages at 50/50 - that just wasn't happening. Your DH sounds just like my xh did back then so I've got a good idea of what life is like for you now. You really need to get some sleep so you can get some clarity on everything and figure out what you want - only you can decide that but you have to do it with a clear head my dear. We're here to listen and help and support you as much as we can, I'm so sorry I've been so caught up with stuff here, I wish I'd looked in sooner. You were there for me when I needed it and you are such an amazing person; I wish I had met you the other week and hope to meet you soon - sounds like you're just as lovely, if not more lovely in person!!! We will never tire of you - keep posting!!!! Did you get your results to the spartum test today? How did DS1's rehearsal go?

Lolly - sorry to hear you were unwell, hope you're feeling better now and your dh. Those pics of Lolly are gorgeous! Everybody says how petite Cerys is and that she looks about 3 months old, they're all different and as long as you know she is healthy, thats the main thing! I have NEVER been to get her weighed yet (ok, so the hv used to come here so I guess thats cheating lol!) but she got weighed at the hospital and is a whopping 15lbs so I'm well chuffed! I'll probably take her to clinic in a month or two but I'm not too bothered...

HHS - Kryptonite is Supermans weakness I'm afraid and he gets his strength from the sun. However, I guess you could argue that because Superman came from Krypton that it is a very strong substance and therefore your comment would make sense, being as he is the strongest and most amazing person in the universe!!! Your thoughts Hopey?

Anyway, didn't realise the time - I'm off to bed (well, off to spend some quality time with DH! )

Love to all (((((((((((hugs)))))))))))

Edie, I got worried about Cerys sleeping too much too but everybody kept telling me to make the most of it and not to worry! When she is well, Cerys sleeps 7pm to 7am and has at least 3 one hour naps in the daytime along with a couple of quick 10 minute ones!! If there's anything else you're worried about though, it might be worth chatting with your hv or nurse practitioner?

EdieMcredie · 18/03/2008 08:47

PLP-Thanks for that

Im not worried about anything lese really, eating loads, plenty of dirty and wet nappies and she is very alert, happy and content when she is awake. Just wondered if it was the weaning that was tiring her out?

You sound like you have had a hell of a time, that the bed situation may have had an impact on how they treated Cerys although sounds as if you are very capable and sensible so they probably thought she was better of with you at home and as you say you were close by anyway. I had bronchiolitis when I was a baby but never get anything wrong with my chest now.

I hope she gets better soon, poor thing has been through enough!! Is she still taking plenty of milk?

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 18/03/2008 08:49

croon, Superman, I PROPERLY LOVE him. Properly.

EdieMcredie · 18/03/2008 08:50

Just read my appalling typos

dal21 · 18/03/2008 08:55

Hello all - just popping by quickly.

Kink - hope all well.

Everyone else - stop talking about cookies! This last 7lbs is an absolute b*tch to shift - have been running and having no treats but the weight refuses to shift. I am looking more toned, but is this weight here to stay? I mean really? Will it NEVER come off. A trip to Harley street may be called for.

Edie - Ryan is definitely more zonked, but he is sitting up and playing heaps more. Yesterday he pulled himself up to sitting from half reclined on his cushion, so I am not surprised he is more tired. One of his daytime naps is 1 1/2 to 2 hours, one is about 50 mins and the last one no more than 30 mins. Then he flakes from 7 to 6.

What is everyone up to for Easter? My plans have changed, looks as though mum will come to us in London instead, so now looking for a nice hotel near london to stay in. Who knows what availability is like this close to easter? Oh well, off to find out.

Hugs to all

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 18/03/2008 08:59

PLP, it's little wonder you've been offline for a bit!! Been thinking about you. How is Cerys now?

Hi Edie, nice to see you. Don't worry about Millie, as long as she has periods of being alert and happy and she's feeding well, that's all you could ask for. My DC tended to be quite sleepy heads when they were babies. Both DS1 and DS2 would sleep 12 hours at night then have LOADS of sleep during the day.

I had a baaaad night with Niamh last night. Well it started a few nights ago. Saturday night she woke a couple of times crying, but as soon as I walked into her room she was asleep again , but when I got her up on Sunday morning and changed her, I realised she'd done a poo in the night and her bum was sore. So Sunday night when she woke twice I undid her sleeping bag and had a 'right good sniff' , nothing, got her up yesterday morning, another poo and a VERY sore bum, even blisters . Last night she woke up almost every hour on the hour, I checked her nappy about 4 times, nothing. She has got a snotty nose so I put some snufflebabe on her and gave her some calpol. I'm afraid I had to just leave her to it then. She kept on waking and crying for a few minutes then going off again. She's still asleep now!

Like you PLP, I am NOT used to this waking in the night business, my heart goes out to those of you being woken. Arbensmum, I read your post, glad to see you've had some much needed sleep. Are you enjoying your parent's visit?

I've got in-laws coming on Friday , FIL

dal21 · 18/03/2008 09:00

PLP - meant to say, so sorry to hear about little Cerys. You guys are absolute stars and sound as though you are doing a fabbo job

kink - also meant to say, i now always copy my posts before pressing post. Dont think it is your connection, mumsnet is the only site i keep getting this problem with. Never get it of fb or email.

Arbensmum · 18/03/2008 09:09

Hopey - is Niamhs' teeth coming thru. Arben got more runnier pooes just before they cut? Tho i am sure you already know that, doh

Arbensmum · 18/03/2008 09:12

Tis great having them here.
Ben just woke once last night, at 3.30pm.
Dal - Arben is also beginning to pull himself up aswell. they will have 6 pack before we know it He was also standing holding onto coffee table for a wee while last night too

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 18/03/2008 09:15

That's fab news you're getting more sleep Arbensmum. Niamh has been teething on and off for months! But her poos aren't runny, I think her 'poo timetable' is out, and instead of doing it during the day, they're coming at night.

I have jsut suddenly this very moment realised how unbelievably tired I am. Niamh is STILL asleep and I could have gone back to bed. Bet you any money as soon as I put my head down, she'll wake up...

dal21 · 18/03/2008 09:19

xpost hopey

poor little niamh. have you tried giving her the ashton and parsons powder? On accasion when Ryan has been fretful, has worked a treat. Re. the runny poos - I have read that Babyrice can help to settle a bubs tum if they have runny poos. so maybe give her a nice bowl of that with some fruit mixed in for supper tonight?

arbensmum - you sound like a different person! amazing what a good nights rest will do for you isnt it?

hotel found. off to get showered before LO wakes.

Lollypopzmummy · 18/03/2008 11:29

@ Hopey my hair would look better if it were more like your's then! Poor Niamh sore bums are the worst, I didn't have anything like that problem with DD1 but Lolly's had a few times where sore bum has occurred and had to rock her and comfort her loads (she's obviously very fond of her bum!)

PLP Aw I used to love muppet babies, they're just so cuuute! Sorry to hear Cerys has been so much more poorly, happy healthy vibes coming your way hun ((((( )))))

Dal you've only got 7lbs to shift, I've got about 3 stone to get rid of!! It's just not even swaying and is really starting to get to me. I'm hoping that with DD1 starting pre-school in April that I'll be able to do a bit more exercise whilst she's there (hoping to start swimming, and will get to put Lolly in the creche for that too) but until then I've got no chance, I don't even have time to go for a walk with them both as the house is a freaking tip (more so now that we did the car boot sale! There's loads of crap dug out and just haven't had time to put it back!)

Arbensmum, can't believe he's started standing already, that's amazing!!

In the end I didn't get round to making Lolly anything for dinner last night, and she went back to bed pretty much straight away after her early evening milk anyway (so didn't need it I guess), but will definitely make more of an effort once all this rubbish from the carboot is sorted (can't believe we didn't get rid of more of it, guess it just wasn't the weather for it but it's a lot milder today so hoping we might get to do it again next Sunday and it might be a bit better )
Have listed some of the stuff on the local AdMart site (which automatically goes into the local paper too) so finger's crossed! (I'm going to get cramp in my finger's one of these days!)

Anywho, hope everyone's not doing too badly, Kinki I hope you've managed to get some sleep hun x

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 18/03/2008 14:33

Poor Niamh NOT well today, I took her to docs this am and there's no sign of ear infection. But she has just slept and slept and slept, think I might need to wake her in a minute to give her abottle, she's only had one today. She was so miserable earlier when I woke her, like she was crying in pain or something.

Lollypopzmummy · 18/03/2008 15:28

Aw Hopey, did the doc make any suggestions or anything? Doc's can be pretty crap at diagnosing LO's it seems (ref Arben's impetigo, I diagnosed that one and didn't even need to see the poor little chappy! Sometimes they've not quite got their brains in gear and who's the one to suffer?! Poor little mites!)
x

MrsFish · 18/03/2008 17:54

Hello everyone

All going great guns here. Ben is now on 4 feeds a day, Brekkie is 8oz Formula and half a weetabix. L = approx 6-7oz and some veggie purees, T = 6-7oz and some fruit puree and cereal/rice then his bed bottle is usually another 8oz At last weigh in 2 weeks ago he was almost 19 pound and 67cm tall. His skin is much better on soya formula, it is definitely an intolerence to milk as I have given him custard twice now and the next day his skin is all red again. He continues to scratch himself though as soon as his clothes are off He isnt any where near sitting up on his own yet, but he is really strong standing up and can push himself backwards when in his walker

Regarding weight loss, I have now lost 1st 2lb since Jan 1st and am now back in my 11's (just) yipeeee! I have signed up for the Race for Life and am going to start training for it in April so I am hoping that will help shift another stone

I hope everyone who has been ill starts to get better soon along with your lo's so you can start getting some sleep. I have only had one decent nights sleep in the past week. Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with Ben but he has been waking up almost every hour during the night, at least he is easily settled again though with his dummy.

MrsBumblebee · 18/03/2008 18:15

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been around for a bit.

Kinki, I'm so so sorry to hear that you're feeling so down. I haven't met you, but from what the others have said and from everything you've written you sound like an absolutely fantastic mum. It just shines out of all your posts how much you adore your DC. Your bloke sounds like he's being a total arse, frankly. Is this a new thing, or has he always been this unsupportive? Please, please keep posting - you're much loved here.

PLP, sorry that Cerys has been unwell again, after everything she's been through. You really must think enough's enough. I hope the poor little thing is feeling a bit better.

Hopey, sounds like Niamh has been in the wars as well. Hope she's on the mend.

Well, we've had a tricky couple of days with Paul. He suddenly got into a pattern where he would vomit twice a day in the afternoon - each time a total emptying of his stomach contents that choked him and left him screaming. I was paranoid he'd do it at night, so I've hardly slept through worrying about it. We decided that maybe we were overfeeding him - we were increasing his solids but not reducing his milk (as most of the books seem to recommend maintaining the milk levels until 6 months). Over the last 48 hours though I've cut his milk down quite a bit, with the result that he's increased his solids substantially, but with no more vomiting. My aim is to get to a stage where he's not having any milk at his solid feeds. This would mean he'd probably only have about 20-24oz milk per day. Does this sound ok? What are other people doing?

Hope everyone else is ok.

dal21 · 18/03/2008 20:28

Hey mrs b - just quickly answering your question.
Ryan takes about 26 oz during the day at the mo, but that includes the milk i use to make up his porridge etc. My day seems similar to mrs f

6.45 - 7 - bottle, anwhere from 6 to 8 oz
7.45 - 8 - brekkie, at the moment consists of 3tbsp porridge made with 3 fl. oz milk and some mashed fruit
11.15 - 11.45 - 2 fl. oz milk (aim to drop this completely) in next two weeks and 3 cubes of chicken with one cube of veggies
2.30 - milk, anywhere between 5-6 fl. oz
5 - 7 tsp Babyrice made with 3 fl. oz milk and mixed with mashed fruit (as soon as lunch all protein, this meal will become savoury too)
6.30 - milk, anywhere from 6-7 fl. oz

No idea what he weighs. Bad mother , but he seems ok. Am pretty much on track based on gina fords book of weaning. HTH

Hopey - poor Niamh! Hope she is ok. Ryan was grizzling today, but fingers crossed seems to have gone down ok.

MrsF - fab news on the weight loss, you must be so chuffed. I'll shut up then. I was just convinced that I could get back into pre baby shape quite quickly. Not the case. Think I am going to have to start belting out a couple of 10k runs a week to get rid of it all. . Roll on spring!
