Nothing to do Amani? !!!!!!! You are a true professional. Very and I've a sinkful of dishes, but Sabela is wailing every time I put her down. Luckily, I have one hand free to mumsnet and a dh who is coming home early.

Sounds lke you're all having nice days. Brill.

If anyone needs a passport photo of LO Jessops do a great service - takes 3 mins, costs 4.99. no hassle. 4 perfect photos. I was dreading trying to hold her up in a photo booth!

Amani · 07/02/2008 16:17

Lol - well sort of limited as to what I can do, as DD1 is a light sleeper so if I make too much noise she will wake up....
..actually am enjoying a luxourious long surf on the net..

nicky6 · 07/02/2008 16:32

just did the most massive post re expressing tips from my midwife me doing 120z a day on one side but lost the lot and now dont have time to redo will try and do again later

beller · 07/02/2008 16:32

Angechica - i am mixed feeding..breat all day until 9pm, then 2 bottles of stage 2 aptimil. I am using the tommee tippe "breast" bottles, and he goes from breats to bottle no problem. Hope that helps??

Iam good....cant get on much, dont know where the days go??
George was 10 lb 12 oz last week, so going to be well over 11 now i think.
Sleep deprivation still going strong.
Got his passport pics dont the other day, thats was fun!
Feeding going well...he just wants to stay awake all the time!
hope everyone is well xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

rockdoctor · 07/02/2008 17:57

Hi Everyone

Very quick post here to say thanks for the discussions on mixed feeding and all the LOs that don't want to sleep. Francesca has been wanting cuddles all day and feeding almost constantly - unfortunately DH is away today so no back-up. Not sure I will get through the evening on BF alone.

fluffymummy · 07/02/2008 18:24

Thanks Katie !!

Right, finally got a couple of minutes for a quick catch up, altho still probably not enough time to post my birth story

seasidemama · 07/02/2008 19:11

Hello all,

I was utterly hopeless on the antenatal thread - popped in a couple of times to say hello and promptly disappeared. It was nothing personal - just a chronically distracted mind!

We'd love to get to know you all now though (because obviously there are less distractions with newborns...)

xx

gingeme · 07/02/2008 20:26

Congratulations fluffymummy
Meet up sounds good as long as its not 18th as Im going to a weding.
Ive had the runs this afternoon and Im not allowed to take Imodium Just drinking lots of water and thanking God lo is being good atm.
Has anyone tried the Dr Brown bottles. I think thats what theyre called. Any good?

toomanyshoes · 07/02/2008 21:13

hello ladies!
Another quick hello as DS starting to wake up for a feed! Glad to hear all LO's doing well.

Fluffy, wasn't me with the samplers, it was Fruitful i think. I'd definitely buy one of the 'this too shall pass' ones though!

Took DD and Ds to a softplay thing today to meet some friends. DD is so much easier when we're out and she's occupied. She is truly a terrible two when bored at home!
Forgot to say that finally had DS weighed on Monday (first time I have managed to overcome my HV aversion since the birth!) and he was 12lb8soz at just over 6 weeks! He doesn't look newborn at all now he is however exceptionally beautiful and smiling lots.

I'm definitely up for a Crouch End meet up! I am in East london but have a car so happy to travel (one of my best friends lives in Crouch End so over there quite often anyway) I can do any day except Fridays

LuckySalem · 07/02/2008 21:26

Well i've tried this expressing thing and managed to get 2ozs out of the "crap" boob so not too depressed about it. The electric pump is rather strange too and spent the whole time laughing! lol

DP just gone to a meeting about promotions and DD is asleep so I can have 5 mins on the comp!

I've asked DP to pick up a steriliser and some bottles as I'm sure I'm not meant to store this milk in the bottle that came with the pump (I expect he'll forget though) Also asked him to get me a bag of chips on the way home

Anyways i'm gonna go play some games whilst I can. Was gonna go back to cleaning (scrubbed the kitchen while she slept this afternoon) but sod it! lol

Hugs to all XXX

katyt1 · 07/02/2008 21:38

evenin' all

might consider joining a london meetup (im in essex but come in on the train, or used to, quite often), would be easier without ds1 so would say tues or wed best for me.
tho if others are bringing their older ones, am free whenever and will try to meet the challenge!

fluffy - so with you on the having 2nd child first thing. life with just henry seems so simple, if sleep-deprived. he doesn't need entertaining, toys, to get out of the house, etc.
also with you on bf - henry often does a small feed then falls asleep again, i just let him get on with it and feed him again next time he asks. seems like he's a snacker like his mum
hope the hosp goes ok tomorrow, thinking of you.

'this too shall pass' is my absolute fave, would love it up on the wall somewhere
my sis (who has 2 dcs) said
'if the girls are fed and washed and i'm fed, it's a good day'
'if the girls are fed and washed and i'm fed and washed, it's an excellent day'

gingeme - hope the runs stop soon.

rockdoctor - hope you get through this evening (((hugs)))

hi to toomanyshoes, seasidemama, beller, nicky6, susie, and everyone else

watching ashes to ashes but thinking of bed soon so may have to finish it tomorrow....

katyt1 · 07/02/2008 21:41

x-posted lucky - sounds calm in your house tonight

must try the pumps, etc. again soon, the electric one freaked me out too much last time

Housemum · 07/02/2008 23:24

Luckysalem - you can get breast milk freezer bags in Mothercare - I tip any I express into these so can defrost enough to make a bottle up (not on the website - I think they were £3 or £4 for 25?).

If anyome's interested - there's some nice video clips of breastfeeding technique and advice here

Off to bf club!
Have a lovely morning ladies

AngeChica · 08/02/2008 10:13

Beller, I have those bottles too and give 2 night feeds! Have you been able to get a longer sleep stretch if someone else can give him the night bottles? I've been told to put DS on the breast just before each bottle, though i guess this could be missed out the odd time. He slept between 4 and 8 this morning ... so I feel almost human! Although we all have colds and I can't understand how DS could feed if he catches it so worried about that! Mum babysitting tonight so DH and I can go out for a quick bite to eat ... may be the last opportunity for a while!!!

Is MrsMc still in hospital anyone know? I think she had her baby before me. Hope they are both doing well.

katyt1 · 08/02/2008 11:17

susie - hope bf club was good, i really enjoy mine.

ange - ds2 has the snuffles now as ds1 and i have colds, great. babies can have saline nose drops so have just been to chemist and got some, friend says they work on her LO. will try them later, he's asleep now.

MamaMaiasaura · 08/02/2008 11:59

fluffy - Tamara sounds similar to samuel with the feeding style. As he has got older has taken longer feeds but still likes to have a little drink when thrist and then sleep then a longer feed. MW said when she watched a feed that is is a 'efficient' feeder. Basically gulps it down real fast.

Havent been on for a few days as samuel has virus (upper resp tract infect & very blocked nose). Saw dr and due to high temp he had paracetamol. This has resulted in a few nights of been awake most of the night and feeding little and often and then last night he fed 9pm, has a very small drink at around 2am and then fed at 7.30am. I was so worried as he had fed for so long (and my boobs ached) that i ended up not having much sleep.

Was 6 weeks check today (cannot believe he is now 6 weeks old today! ) Had to wait 50 minutes for dr as receptionist cocked up booking. He is now 12lb6oz so staying steady on 91st centile. She queried wether he still has jaundice but dp is slightly dark skinned so she said might be that. My episiotomony hasnt healed properly and needs reviewing as lip of skin protuding

Missed breastfeeding club, clinic and mum and baby group this week as dont want to drag samuel out unnecessarily and also dont want to spread the bugs. ds2's birthday on monday so busy week next week!

MamaMaiasaura · 08/02/2008 11:59

meants ds1's not ds2's

MamaMaiasaura · 08/02/2008 12:01

katy - dr gave me prescription for those drops. Tried them since yesterday, dont know if they helping yet and really tricky to put in (i ended up squirting too much out and went in his eye).

MoominMum · 08/02/2008 13:03

Hello everyone! Although Magnus arrived on 29th Dec, he was supposed to be a Jan baby so I hope it's OK to join you! Great to hear all your experiences and thought I would add mine to the pool fwiw:
Moominpop came to bed at 4 in the morning after a long cold night worrying about whether we were ready and what would happen if it all started that night. 10 mins later I woke to a trickling sensation as my waters started to go! Felt a vague, queasy period pain across lower back, pelvic area and buttocks. Called the MW who said if not having contractions and only a trickle could wait a couple of hours as she'd be in our area (we planned a home birth)or if worried we could go to the hosp for a trace. As soon as I put the phone down there was a gush, so off we went to the hosp. Took quarter of an hour to find the car park and then the triage entrance, helpfully not signposted!! Anyway, trace was fine showing no established contractions, although my BP was up. On exam the MW said 'Ooh, he's got long dark hair!' - our first news about our wee lad - then he decided to move about and squirted them both with fluid! I was at 1cm, this was 6.0am-ish, told to go home and call again when conts established and 5 mins apart - that sounds so simple! Conts started in the car park - or rather the pain I was feeling got worse and started to vary in intensity - off we went back home.
For the next hour and a half I tried to do useful things in between ever more frequent periods spent sitting on the toilet/on all fours in the corner of the bathroom/leaning on the arm of the sofa like a naughty postcard with my backside in the air - all accompanied by grunts and moans, also had a bath at some point (with clary sage - smashing!) - but still couldn't get a timing on the conts, they felt almost constant or when one did seem to ease i would move and it would immediately jump back up to same intensity. Eventually decided that I felt like I was 'back in the room' once during every 5 mins so called the MW again and she said she'd head over. She checked my BP - still high - showed Moominpop where best to massage and pretty much left us to it apart from further BP checks. It stayed up so eventually we agreed to transfer to hosp and ambulance was called at 11.30-ish. Managed to walk to ambulance and was handsomely rewarded with G&A - hooray (had only had 2 paracetomol til then)! MW transferred with us and on arrival BP was still up but I was at 5-6cm dilation. Hit transition shortly after arrival, marked by sudden awareness that my coping strategies were wearing pretty thin and not sure whether I would manage when it got worse - felt extremely vulnerable. Then, with the next cont, I was completey overwhelmed by the urge to push (urge is the wrong word btw - it suggests you have a choice in the matter!)- this was the scariest bit, not the pain but the sheer power of my own body which seemed to be trying to push my entire innards out through my arse - thought I would end up inside-out! Carried on for a while with our MW but then she had to go (been on shift all night so not safe to supervise anymore) and handed over to the hosp delivery team who were brilliant. My BP was still high but baby seemed OK although we didn't seem to be getting anywhere for all the pushing. I'm a little vague on this part and only remember a handful of moments - mostly I remember the texture of whatever sheet, bit of floor, arm of chair etc I was straining over at the time as I really couldn't look at anyone but made big effort to listen to the team and talk to them when necessary. Became aware that things weren't quite straightforward as more staff arrived to help - at one point there were 6 of them in there (which I thought I would hate, hence the home birth plan, but actually I really appreciated the support) and they seemed to think that my cervix was so far back that baby was having difficulty crowning. Eventually, after trying everything they could to avoid intervention, they asked if they could cut and ventouse as there was a lot of blood around and they really needed to get the baby out fast - we agreed and I was quite relieved as I was v tired! They took my G&A away as it was making me too comfortable (!) but did a great job of cheerleading me through the last few pushes, which were pretty extreme. Then suddenly I felt a release of pressure as Moominpop shouted 'there's the head!' He looked totally shocked and emotional so asked if it looked OK - yes, it looked fine. Then, at 3.21pm, one big push and Magnus was out. Moominpop cried for both of us - I was too tired! They quickly checked and wiped him and put him on my chest within about 10 seconds, then left him on me for a while - no idea how long! Then it was time to expell the placenta but it just wouldn't shift, no matter what they did - again, they tried everything to avoid intervention, including aromatherapy poultices, but no joy. So after much pushing and pulling and a whole lot of blood (the place looked like a crime scene, it was everywhere, over the staff, the walls, the floor, my notes, everywhere!) they had to send me to theatre to manually remove it with an epidural - typical, I'd managed the whole thing on G&A just to end up numb from the waist down with a catheter anyway!! At least that gave Moominpop and Magnus 2 hours bonding time!
So that's the birth - plenty to talk about re the hospital experience after that but I think that's a long enough post for now - sorry, you've probably heard so many similar experiences by now!! Thanx for your patience!! Moominmum.

AngeChica · 08/02/2008 15:41

Well done Moominmum. I thought when waiting for so long on the delivery suite with my induction and hearing quite a few babies being born, then when i was in the post natal ward staggering around with all the other women with their battle wounds, this is like being in a secret club and no one else "understands" till you've been there!

PS - I have just uploaded a couple of pics of my big boy!

toomanyshoes · 08/02/2008 15:50

congratulations Moominmum I love birth stories! I feel a bit sad that I won't get to do it again (think 2 children is enough for us) I am one of those weirdos who loves giving birth (bloody hate pregnancy though!)

Ange - he is gorgeous!

I am supposed to be doing some work but have lost the ability to concentrate on anything for more than 5 mins. It's a freelance thing I have to have in on Monday morning though and have a busy weekend planned so must sort myself out and stop pottering about on mumsnet and daydreaming about food (joined weightwatchers on monday, am missing chocolate a lot!!)
