Thanks for the advice.

Luce, K blows raspberries too, but usually after about 2 spoonfuls! Complete bloody mess!

Are we ok to givem the petit filous now or is it 6 months?

nappynuttynormabutty · 10/10/2007 10:31

I know it's a bit late, but hope you have a good holiday Ange

SOL - Not going to be much help but we try to get Erin to take as much as she will...she's quite stubborn so won't take too much . She's never been sick from solids, only from milk (tho that's quite rare too).

Hope T is ok SMB.

Well I was going to have a wander to the shops this morning but by the time I had breakfast, put the laundry on, drank my cup of tea (I don't function without my tea ), got the bag ready...Erin had fallen asleep so might leave it til this afternoon as it's meant to get brighter later on (according to dh )

nappynuttynormabutty · 10/10/2007 10:31

Oh and forgot to say hope you had a lovely holiday Elkie and thanks for the tip about the mugs...off to check them out now!

Eddas · 10/10/2007 10:51

Have a great holiday ange, sure it was you

Luce, sorry to hear about your aunt and that you can't get to funeral

SOL, i'm currently giving ds, who's always been sicky, 3 meals. They can have petit filous now, says on the packet ds loves them once he's got used to the coldness Yesterday he hadweetbix with cows milk for brekkie, then lunch was a jar of some diner of some sort and a pot of the pureed fruit. Then diner was a rice pudding jar and a yogurt.

Have tried him with marmite on toast but he looked like i'd poisoned him may be the first in our family to hate it will try again with it soon may well do him and dd some dairlea on toast for lunch today and see what he makes of that ooo and maybe try him with mashed banana the possibilities are endless what ad is that line from, am saying it in my head with a french accent

right after that waffle i'm out of things i wanted to say

ah just rememebred, nice to hear Eva remains stable. Fingers very tightly crossed that they can work out what's wrong

hi to everyone else

MurderousMaveta · 10/10/2007 10:57

love the weaning chat - can i just ask how people are going with the doidy cups? i have tried a couple of times but he mainly hits himself in the head with it and then sucks furiously on the lip while the actual liquid goes down his chin i'm sure that's not the idea...

CaptainDippy · 10/10/2007 11:00

May I suggest perhaps spreading a tiny bit of marmite on his sheets at night to slowly infiltrate the smell / taste into his system while he sleeps!!?

How is T SMB?? No more sick, I hope!!?

Welcome back Elkie - hope you had an amazing time - tell us all about it .....

@ your DH's car crash, BWI (although I know you have gone now ) Hope you have a wonderful time anyway!

Enjoy your holiday Maveta - I am I felt v.glum when DH went off to work this morning - I am feeling a bit run-down and frazzled atm, could do with a break - Head feels like it can't possibly contain any more stress / information atm. Sorry to moan. Sorry to say sorry!

DD1's Pre-School just 'phoned me to say she had had a nasty bump on her head (left side, nowhere near her poorly eye) and should they just leave her or would I like to go and collect her. I said just to leave her (I am home alone with other 2 in bed and no one to look after them while I go and collect her) Was that bad of me? Am I a meanie, nasty mummy??

MurderousMaveta · 10/10/2007 11:02

btw i spoke to sil and she said no problem! she wants to nip along when she can and pay for it and leave it there for me to pick up - fab!

only thing is that when I called the shop the girl said she told me the wrong colour yesterday, they only have 1 in stock.. if you click here and click the arrows under the photo until you get to the last pic ref. h14 i think - it's that one. I'm not keen on the colour but she said she called the manufacturer and they're phasing this model out so this colour is all they have left. Bah. It's a bit of a 'meh' colour but can't be bothered starting the search again just because of the colour.. so today I will have my chair!!

geordiemacmummy · 10/10/2007 11:02

Can anyone give me some ideas of different foods I can give C? Not bothered whether it is finer foods or things that I can give him from a spoon - just want to try a few more tastes?

MurderousMaveta · 10/10/2007 11:05

what have you given him so far? aitch's baby led weaning site had some good recipes on it here

Eddas · 10/10/2007 11:08

good idea cd can't have a child of mine not liking marmite

Hope dd is ok, poor little thing has been through it with her eye.

SharpMolarBear · 10/10/2007 11:10

gmm I have this book not made anything yet but recipes look quite good. Lots can br frozen in bulk too.

geordiemacmummy · 10/10/2007 11:11

mainly jusst pureed frut and veg, whispers baby rice and some bits of things like bread and salad from our plates? Its more what its safe to give him and what its not? Is he ok to have yoghurts and such like obviuosly as long as they have no bad stuff in?

MurderousMaveta · 10/10/2007 11:12

afaik the only things they can't have after 6 months (well, we're practically there, right?!) are honey and peanuts..

SharpMolarBear · 10/10/2007 11:16

i've been wondering about this, thanks. Can threy have tomatoes / strawberries / kiwi?
Gave him some bread yesterday but wasn't sure.
That book does suggest honey fter 6 months must be out of date

CaptainDippy · 10/10/2007 11:18

I am crap at weaning so I'll leave it to the "experts"!

geordiemacmummy · 10/10/2007 11:22

Not really after the "expert" opinion..... Jus t what other mummies give their babies...

MurderousMaveta · 10/10/2007 11:24

"What should babies under one year avoid?

? Still keep off salt, sugar, honey and artificial sweeteners. Try sweetening desserts with mashed banana or a purée of stewed dried fruit if possible, or use expressed breastmilk or formula milk.

? Avoid the temptation to add a little tea to baby's bottle. The tannin in tea interferes with iron absorption, and the caffeine it contains is not recommended for children.

? Avoid giving fruit squashes or diet drinks to your baby. Artificial sweeteners are not suitable for babies and young children.

? Avoid foods which may carry a risk of food poisoning, such as soft mould-ripened cheeses (brie, camembert), liver pâté, and soft-boiled or raw eggs.

? Don't give cow's (or goat's or sheep's) milk as a main drink under one year.

? Skimmed and semi-skimmed milks, low-fat spreads, yogurts and reduced-fat cheeses. Always offer your baby the full-fat versions -- they need the calories. "

from here

Man I really better do some work! see ya x

nappynuttynormabutty · 10/10/2007 11:25

Pants, I've forgotten what I was going to type

Erm...CD hope dd is ok.

Maveta - Erin was like that with her doidy the first couple of times but she loves it now. We still give milk from bottle but give water from the cup...sometimes if she's not taking her bottle v well I'll put a bit of it in the cup and see if she'll take some more that way iyswim.I find if I hold the cup so my thumb is on the top rim (away from her mouth) and the rest of my hand underneath, she can also hold the handles and she seems to enjoy that...you just have to hold it quite firmly so she doesn't tip it right up

SharpMolarBear · 10/10/2007 11:25

Is anyone tempted to give a baby tea?

nappynuttynormabutty · 10/10/2007 11:26

lol, that's what I was thinking SMB...I mean I know we're british but that's taking it a bit far

SharpMolarBear · 10/10/2007 11:29

Yeah, T has black coffee every time, like his mum

CaptainDippy · 10/10/2007 11:30

Glad the Doidys are being appreciated!

Well, 3 Goodies animal biscuits soaked in a bit of boiled water with 1/2 an avocado & 1/2 a banana always goes down well here!

SharpMolarBear · 10/10/2007 11:45

Does anyone else still have a problem doing anything without screaming in the background?
Have just had my second shower with screams all the way through

oooggs · 10/10/2007 11:45

morning all

welcome back elkie

enjoy your hols ange

good news opn eva - hope she continues to improve

geordiemacmummy · 10/10/2007 12:06

thats grand... so basically any foods..

I'm completly disillisioned with so called "expert" opinions... especially when I have just heard that it is now recommended that pregnant women do eat peanuts during pregnancy and are given to children as avoiding them is leading to an increase in allergies....

I honestly think there is a group of people that are employed to make up this shit, and they come up with all these do's and donts to justify their own existance. Rant over...
