Morning all. We are back from our weekend in Ely which was absolutely lovely - what a beautiful place! We all feel very relaxed which was a good job as C was back at the cm this morning and we had to be up and out early. It feels strange after 6 weeks just being me and R again. Good luck to all those school starters! I am usually on the other side as an infant school teacher and believe me, they do not cry all day! They usually stop as soon as the parents have gone!
AM - very jealous of the car. I would love anew one but I don't think mat leave and dh starting a new business are conducive to buying a new car.
Lupins I have a couple of ideas for party games that I used to love. There's one where you put a malteser in the bottom of a bowla nd pack flour around it until the bowl is full. Put a plate on top and turn it over. All the children sit round and have to take it in turns to cut a slice off the 'cake' without knocking the malteser off. The one who does has to get it out the flour with their teeth. The other one is the chocolate game. You need a dice, some dressing up clothes, a knife and fork and a bar of chocolate. The kids take it in turns to roll the dice and if they get a six they have to put the dressing up clothes on and eat the chocolate with the knife and fork. They keep going until someone else throws a six.

Abby, I have only got a new car because of my dh having his own companies. 3.5yrs of hard graft has really paid off. We have a travel agency (so anyone looking for a cheaper hol give me a shout) and also a holiday review website.

AbbyLou · 04/09/2007 10:56

That fills me with hope AM. Dh only started his business in January and it's going ok but it's just a really big shock to have so much less money coming in. He's working really hard t it and I'm just hoping that in 3.5 years time I can say that too! Sounds like a really interesting business to be in, I'll definitely bear you in mind when I want to book my next holiday. What sort of holidays do you do?

cameroonmama · 04/09/2007 11:54

Fills me with hope too AM, I am holding out for an MG roadster in 4 years time dd has already suggested she sits in the front with me

Can you get superduper deals on flights to Nairobi?

It sounds like Ella is really getting to grips with her solids now, I suppose given the size of my chubster I will soon have to think about it. Unlike all of your babies, J shows no desire to roll over, I think it is too much effort for him

Abbylou sounds like you had a lovely break.

Thanks all for your poop support, suffice it to say the poop embargo has been broken with two rather enormous ones this morning and a much happier baby.

No dc and J asleep upstairs...the house seems very quiet, I feel a bit sad they are not here. Good luck to all the new school starters.

What do you think the old ladies in Sainsbury's will think of our DCs in this? www.twistedtwee.co.uk/shop/view_product.php?product=10

cameroonmama · 04/09/2007 13:29

SuperMonkey · 04/09/2007 13:42

Me too! Perhaps I'll get it and let Boy wear it when DP takes him out .

largeginandtonic · 04/09/2007 14:06

Afternoon everyone!

Oh how i have missed you all. We got back Sunday only to discover the 3 eldest were due to start school Monday not Tuesday!! Cue manic shopping (tricky on sunday after 4) and school uniform hunting.

They made it though! DD started the junior school, she looked very grown up DS #3 started back today so i have been cleaning my state of a house. Still stuff to unpack and DH uniform everywhere! He has an awful lot, all bought back here now as he 'home' officially every night, wahoooo.

Beau is a grumbly wee creature, lovely but vocal He is going to bed though at 7ish and sleeping through till 4-5 then going back to sleep again. Sorry SOH.

I just saw my friends baby this morning, she is soooo tiny. 2 weeks old and about 8lb now, a little doll. I want one.....

Hope you are all ok, for AM new car. TYG at the christening debacle. Lwatkins sure the exam will be ok.

Cam i had a Mutsy, just sold it. I loved it but Hugs kept legging it so iam getting a a double buggy (again)

Pebble at the icecream, hope they compensate those that were poorly with it.

Must return to wifely duties now DH is home every night or not...

Mrsjaffabiffa · 04/09/2007 18:58

Umm sounds nice AM

Maddie is on day 3 of potty training. Practising what I preach and have to say it's going good. She got one star on day one, two yesterday and she has got 4 today. Got to be heading in the right direction..... She was only 2, 3 weeks ago so I must remember not to expect too much................

I eat my words, I had to stop writing to clean her up as we just had poo in pants, what a shame it was nearly a good day, feel a bit disheartened now.

Have any more of you joined face book yet? They have a mumsnet group too, it's interesting seeing everyones real identities as alot of lovely ladies have outed themselves on it.

Hope everyone is well, big hugs to you all. xxx

I have a question. Do any of you know anything about the mini pill, Microval. I have googled it and there is some info on it but I can't find out if you are supposed to still have an AF with it? I started taking it on the first day of the return of AF after I stopped feeding Jorja. There are 28 pills in the pack and I expected after finishing that pack to have an AF. Wrong I'm now into week two of the 2nd pack and still no sign of AF. Anyone else taking or taken the mini pill before. I've always been on the full pill before.

OP posts:
SuperMonkey · 04/09/2007 20:27

I'm taking it but also BFing which I'm assuming is why there's no AF. Well, I say 'taking it', I seem to be forgetting more than I'm actually taking. I managed to remember to take the pill every day religiously for 16 years but I have a year off and can I remember to take them? Can I heck. As DP pointed out though, I don't think we need to worry .

Bensonbluebird · 04/09/2007 20:33

Well done with potty training Mrs JB, sounds like you are both doing well. I didn't have AF until DS1 was about 14 months when I was taking the mini pill - but I was BFing. The mini pill I'm on is also in 28 day packs and you carry on taking them straight through.

Mum2G · 04/09/2007 20:37

Hi all, thanks for the 'poo' warning lupin, will get DH to get back to you re skype, he is out tonite - so it is just me with a chicken curry and a weight watchers chocolate brownie! (He does the cooking normally, althought i will have to learn one day!)

scootermum · 04/09/2007 20:58

Hi all,
Wrote a lovely long post last night but then my internet went down and has only just returned..
Big wave to all

Had a lovely time in Brighton-was just the ticket to have some time away..did not enjoy the train journey home though-got stuck on a very hot tube with about 10,000 Arsenal fans and had to keep sticking my head out of the door at each stop to prevent self from vomiting as felt a tad the worse for wear to say the very least Am now in mini detox..pah!I give self till tomorrow before the gin puts in an appearance as I am a single Mum this week, as DH is away till Sunday on a work conference, (read Piss up in a swank hotel) and Lily is not playing ball at all!

Go Mini JB with the potty training!L did a wee on her potty a week ago, but am thinking its more of a fluke than anything else so am not even going there yet!I figure if I keep sticking her on the thing whenever im on the loo, (she insists on barging in anyway) then she might jsut get the message

Lots of love to all the back to schoolers..My CM's littlest started infants today and her oldest started at secondary..its the first time in 4 years she has had no children at all in the house with ehr during the day-she hated it and called me at 11 to ask did I want L minding this afternoon as she didnt know what to do with herself! She must have been desperate!

scootermum · 04/09/2007 21:01

Also found out today that my best 'baby' friend from L's antenatal classes is pregnant and her baby is due next May..oh its so exciting..and brings back all the memories of us last year, sigh..
Dare I say I feel quite broody at times..(and I never thought I would say that, have hitherto thought two quite enough for me).

Mum2G · 04/09/2007 22:04

Glad u had a good time scootermum!

Does anyone have advice about questions to ask a childminder when looking for care?

We are looking for g for one day a week, and i am feeling sick with nerves at the very thought at the moment - i know i need to make sure they are registered, and have been looking on the childminding thread and gather that there can be a settling in period - i would prefer for g to have spent some time with them before i leave him with them for a whole day, does this sound realistic?

Other than finding out what activities the day would entail, whether they would be able to help g settle for his naps - as he doesn't settle himself, oh and asking for references, i am not sure what else, any advice appreciated

LWandLottie · 04/09/2007 23:35

Hello all

I feel like such a s**t! Because Lottie hadn't had her first set of jabs done before today, when I arrived she said that by now she should have had her third and final one. So the poor thing had to have all 3 done, one after the other! It broke my heart! I had to hold her whislt she got stabbed with 3 needles which were the same size as her wee feet. I know she's better of but I felt so awful doing it to her! And for payback she's been awful today. Though she has gone down well tonight at 9pm. Last night she went down at 8, didn't here from her until 9am

OOOOO, who's on facebook? I just joined up, rather pathetically not many of my friends have it so compared to everybody else and their thousands of friends, my count looks rather sad lol! We should absolutley have a mumsnet chat page thingy! Oh please those of you who have it let me know

I watched The Way We Were tonight, spent the entire movie drooling over Robert Redford mumbling 'want' at the screen - seriously! My mum suggested I seak proffessional help!

Have kick started my diet again, and I therefore ban anbody with less than a stone to loose to talk to me.

elkiedee · 04/09/2007 23:47

LW, that just seems wrong of them to give your baby all the jabs at once, surely there's a reason for spacing out all those things going into a small baby. Hope she gets over such an unpleasant experience for her, I would think, soon. But don't beat yourself up over it, because I just don't think that's the right thing for them to do when you've not been earlier.

The nurse who gave my baby's jabs twice is one of the few health professionals I really haven't taken to, it didn't help that she kept me waiting 40 minutes the first time without even apologising (and was also late the 2nd time) with a small fed up baby in a waiting room with no space for babies - there's a few toys for toddlers but that doesn't help at all.

On Facebook, search on mumsnet - it will show you a link to the mumsnet group which includes a long thread on which many of us have posted saying what our mumsnet names are - I've found mrsjaffabiffa and SOH so far as well as about 15 of the April thread ladies when I first joined. Also, I think most of those who've posted there and outed themselves are quite happy to have more Facebook friends. I'm just having a rather silly competition with my dp but I'm sure he'll overtake me because he's asked all sorts of people to be his Facebook friend on the grounds that they have a work connection (employees or councillors or ex-councillors!), that they have the same surname (anyone on there with my surname is probably actually already related to me!) and lots of other really doubtful reasons.

aprilmeadow · 05/09/2007 08:33

WOO HOO

Ella slept fot 12 hours last night!!!!!

LW, poor liitle C, I hope she is ok this morning.

Scoot, glad you had a great time. Did you look like a regular night clubber in your choice of outfit?

Lupins71 · 05/09/2007 09:35

LW arlen was late having his - the nurse said no way should he have them any closer together as i was worried about him missing them, i would get it checked hun- the 1sthe and 2nd lots are 2 jabs in the leg and the last lot is 3 in the legs - she cant have gone to the last lot and missed the 1s 2 lots can she - sorry dont mean to worry you just concerned about this it just doesnt sound right

Yeyyy well done ella on a good night sleep

Well i kept it together in the playground, but must admit i was booing in my bedroom before we left - didnt let her see tho, she looked soooo cute - if i ever work out how to get pics on her i will post them, and she went in fine, good luck to all the other back to school kids today

Right better go and wash up - have friend hopefully bringing me cake
