I wonder how many threads on mn are commenting on this particular gem of a debate.

WestCountryLass · 16/07/2007 21:36

I did a stint as a student in a SCBU and it doesn't happen every day but it is not as uncommon as you would think for parents to not visit their babies. One set of parents I chanced across felt there was nothing they could do so there was no point being there , also I was always being told to go home and rest when DS was in NICU, not that I did but the nurses said it so often you didn't exactly feel welcome...

Katy44 · 16/07/2007 21:42
Sad
elkiedee · 16/07/2007 21:47

There is a separate Chat thread about "clasping my nork" and trying to resist posting on THAT thread!

EmmyMuggle · 16/07/2007 21:48

JoMa, that is so so sad about the lady at Matthew's nursery. I can't even imagine how you would begin to deal with that.

EmmyMuggle · 16/07/2007 21:49

Elkie - I am intrigued about the nork clasping....

Katy44 · 16/07/2007 21:55

elkie, you're right, the internet is strange

Pinions · 16/07/2007 22:22

Still lurking around. Am fascinated by this whole scenario, and TBH hoping that its a wind up. No matter how detached you are surely it is literally impossible to leave a week old baby? It makes my heart sink even to think about it.

To me its a wind up thread, just my opinion.

Night!!!

leakyR · 16/07/2007 22:29

Evening ladies

I have only read today's posts as I have an inner ear infection and it's making me feel sick and dizzy and unable to concentrate on stuff for long. It's really helping with the holiday vibe round here.

JoMa to hear about the lady from nursery. Makes us all feel lucky I bet.

The Mohze thread has perplexed me. I only hope it's not for real.

Twinkle sorry you're going to have to go through the upheaval of moving. Would hate to even contemplate it at the mo.

Maveta and Elkie your pics are lovely, lovely babies too. Took George to the beach at Seahouses last week but went nowhere near the sea. I think putting a baby in the North Sea would be classed as abuse

Okay brain has melted, sorry to anyone i've missed.

JoMa - what do I need to do to sound more blonde?

eca · 16/07/2007 22:29

evening everyone

at your nursery nurse joma and at mozhe's thread. Like you've said there's something not right about that.

We're ok here. really tired after the wedding at the weekend. It was a really beautiful wedding. They're a special couple. Lots of happy tears.

Must confess I'm panicing a bit about T at the next one in 2 weeks time. He had a couple of screaming fits that he never has, not his normal crying, but high, hysterical unconsolable fits. I think he just freaked out with so many people in his face/house/car etc etc and his mummy and daddy rushing round. The trouble is we're even more involved in the next one. Feeling like a bad mummy

eca · 16/07/2007 22:31

leaky - sorry to hear you're feeling ill. Sounds nasty! Hope it clears up fast

Katy44 · 16/07/2007 22:34

Hi
Leaky, sorry to hear about your ear infection, hope it clears up soon
eca, could anyone look after T for the next one? I know what you mean, my DS gets a bit grouchy /screamy if his routine's disrupted - just like his Daddy
On a lighter note - there's an ivykaty44 on MN! How dare she? (Or how dare I? depending on who registered first I suppose )

leakyR · 16/07/2007 22:56

Thanks ladies. I've had ear problems for years but not since before I got pregnant. Worryingly I often fall over when it's really bad. Glad DH is off work until next Monday.

Eca can sympathise about baby being freaked out by too many people. We had 15 adults and 7 kids round for a barbie on Saturday. I spent most of the afternoon upstairs trying to calm G down, everybody wanted a look/cuddle/coochie-coo type chat with him and it was a bit too much.

leakyR · 16/07/2007 22:57

Def off to bed now. Goodnight

CaptainDippy · 17/07/2007 00:51

WHY am I still up ..... goodness me ..... have been v.productive this evening though ..... went & saw my friend who had a baby girl last week ...... v.cute! Picked up some stuff, dropped off some stuff - wrote my Birthday Thank You's & various other notes / scribbles I've been meaning to write (have HUGE pile to take to the Post Box tomorrow - v.satisfying .....

Was it mammyjo / eca / WCL who commented about it not being uncommon for parents to leave their newborns in SCBU and not visit much!!? Well, actually, come to think of it, yes, that is true - when I was in SCBU with DD2 there were a set of twins and a singleton who never had parents visiting & were mainly looked after by the nurses .... good point. Still think it is wrong and a bit warped though.....

Right.

Goodnight!!

Hi all,

Am back from London, had a lovely few days with my sister and managed to survive the train journeys too.

Hope everyone is well, will need to try and catch up on the posts but am going to the Highlands for a few days tomorrow with a load of DH's work colleagues so am going to be cooking a giant lasagne today .

maveta · 17/07/2007 07:54

morning cd! 1 handed typing here... looks like a scorcher today, already sweating and it´s not even 9am. not much fun, can´t see us going out today, so sitting in a dark house is the plan (dark because have to keep shutters closed to keep heat ouut).. n was only in a nappy all day yesterday and looks like the same today..

just to let you all know it´s not ALL great being in a hot country

bumble75 · 17/07/2007 08:13

Morning all,

JoMa, so about the nursery lady, can't even begin to imagine... also can't imagine leaving sick one week old...

L was angel last night - slept from 9pm till 6:30am!

Am going to parent and baby screening of Harry Potter this morning, will be interesting - wonder how much of the film I'll get to see in between screaming babies! Will be a laugh if nothing else.

L wants some attention so hopefully be back this afternoon to catch up properly...

Have a good day everyone
x

runnyhabbit · 17/07/2007 09:13

Morning all

Have tried to catch a bit, but just so many posts!

It was lovely meeting mammyjo last week. Ffion is an absolute cutie

Dh has got this week off (yay) and we took full advantage of the nice weather yesterday by digging up the turf in the front garden (ready for gravel to go down) and in the back garden, where we are going to put play bark stuff (low maintenance for us and safer for ds) But we aching so much today.

But the weather today is pants. Never mind, there are plenty of indoor jobs for him to do

W has started waking more in the night. We seemed to be making real progress - like sleeping through the night. Then last night he had a feed at 10.30, then 2.30, then 5.30. What the heck is going on?

Pinions · 17/07/2007 09:53

A year ago today I conceived .

And it was the hottest day of the year .

CaptainDippy · 17/07/2007 09:58

TMI pinions!!!!!

What are everyone's plans today?? - Tis v.quiet in DippyLand atm - DD3 sleeping in the pram still (from when we dropped DD1 at Pre-School) and just put DD2 down for her nap a bit early cos she got up super early this morning .....

Oooooh, spoke too soon, P's "10 O'Clock Alarm" has just gone off!!

Like clockwork - every morning!!

Morning all.

Twinkle, lovely to see you on here yesterday. Can't believe you have to move - what a pita. Hope you get something sorted soon.

Leaky , hope you are feeling better soon - sounds awful.

JoMa, so very sorry to her about the nursery lady who lost her baby. That happened at the nursery my cousin takes her dt's too. I think they did a sponsored toddle to raise money for a charity.

Big hello to everyone else, as have read the thread and forgotten it all!
Also, dh took to the power lead for the laptop yesterday, and the battery died, so only had limited use.

Well survived the bed/bath routine without dh - just. B was a bloody pita. Explained I had to deal with K and put on Ice Age for her and that I would come and get her etc. She came up and was doing bloody roly poly's in K's bedroom. I was fuming. K then wouldn't settle, so mid way through reading books to B had to give K more milk.

Do NOT know how those on your own manage 2.

Quick question, K is due her jabs today - second lot. She has a snotty cold. Should I delay taking her, or will it make no difference? Thoughts??

Hope everyone is ok. I am venturing out for a manicure and eyebrow shape shortly - taking K with me - wish me luck! Meeting my cousins on Saturday for a party, and they are all quite glam, so thought I had better make an effort!! Mind you, need to sort my legs out first - talk about jungle!!

mammyjoMcGonagall · 17/07/2007 10:10

Morning SOKL. Not sure about the cold thing, I know they do delay the jabs sometimes. Could you give your HV or surgery a ring for some advice? May save you a wasted journey. Always get told that baby clinic is for WELL babies!! HV likes to ram this point home on a very regular basis so maybe they would rather you didnt go today.

Pinions · 17/07/2007 10:11

as in WTF has happened to the weather this year as opposed to that being the reason I conceived lol.

Hi sokl. This week DP gets home at 9.30 ALL week so have tea time/bathtime/bedtime to do on my tod all week. And second that to those on their own undoubtedly.

My plans for today include washing, washing and more washing. And following the Mozhe thread.
