I was brave and started a new thread!

DD2 often wakes up at 5am and "chats" and "gurgles". If I leave her she goes back to sleep. It's not that hard to do unless they are crying, when I never leave her. Definitely, if you feed them through the night they will be less interested in food during the day Indith. You can try (only done this when they are older) and give them some water. Idea being they hate it so much they stop waking at that time when they know they'll only get water and wake later (i.e. morning) when they know they'll get milk.

Apart from giving them more milk (and solids) during the day, personally, I've always just 'gone with the flow' re night-time feeding/comfort and they usually sort themselves out eventually.

Cocobabe · 04/05/2007 11:05

Did someone say if you feed in the night , the lesss likely they will be interested in feed in the day ?!...dont think applies to my ds ! - he had 2 feeds in the night ( 5oz then 4oz), then at breakfast he wolfed down all his porridge then had 3oz of ff !!

DH was grumpy wiv me this am , i was up with ds twice - for cuddle then woke up again for feed . then 3rd time he woke dh got up and fed him but was up 2 hrs with him - he growled at me saying that i should have got up and takeover him but when i said I was asleep(totally out of it !) and he shouldve woken me up ...but he just grumbled on about it should me doing the night feeds !! and heres me thinking about wanting to hit him and say ' hellloo when i was b/f exclusively ive been getting up to feed him for the last 5 months !!!and how dare he have a go at me for last night !...

House moving can be a nightmare eh ...hope something happens for you soon Oli & margo xx

accessorizewithbabysick · 04/05/2007 11:49

Good news on the job, indith, hope it works out!

Are you weeping yet, Margo, you poor thing. And Olihan, I do remember this well, the anxiety is just constantly there. Hope the buyers have sorted themselves by now.

re: night feeds, I do agree with castles on this for babies this young. I took ds1 to sleep clinic but they said only after 8 months, anything before then not a problem. I spoke to the lady from the clinic this week and she said the only thing to look out for was feeding them to sleep as it could cause issues later. Some babies just seem to need it, I found it easier with ds1 to accept that rather than look for answers and get frustrated (that's easy to say in hindsight I guess!).

Thank you all for nice things you've said, I'm finding this week a breeze as I'm just not feeding for several hours a day anymore! Amazing how much time it took up, he even only fed for 10 mins for the final feed!

magnolia1 · 04/05/2007 12:36

coco, doesn't apply to my ds either he is up 1-2 times a night and still feeds like a trooper in the day.
Last night was awful, he was up every 2 hours!! Dh got him up at 8am this morning and left me asleep. He made him a bottle and the little bugger drank the lot Now I bet he doesn't do that when I go out and want him to have a bottle

Still feel guilty that he will take formula from a bottle but not ebm so am going to express still and mix the 2 together gradually using more ebm than formula and see If I can get him to take full ebm.
If it doesn't work I will use ebm in food and can at least say I have tried

He is currently sitting in his chair watching me type and eat a cheese sandwhich, now he's watching Bubble and Squeak on Nick Jr!

I ate a dodgy curry last night. Tummy pains and frequent trips to the toilet are making my day just wonderful!! Sorry for TMI

AQ, glad your days are getting easier xxx

Oli and Margo I do hope moving is soon over for you both xxx

I am off to an Ann Summers Party tonight, wonder what sexy bra's look good with breast pads

accessorizewithbabysick · 04/05/2007 13:00

Just when you thought it was getting better, m1, but the idea about mixing ebm with formula sounds a good one. Very sneaky! I haven't been bothering to express for weeks now as there's never any time between feeds so tried today and got half an ounce! Hope the sleep is better tonight [hugs] Ann Summers at least makes for a better evening I am soooo sick of my feeding bras, every summer top I've tried on looks hideous with one underneath.

Coco, you must be fuming - men can be such cloth-heads!

Cocobabe · 04/05/2007 13:52

AQ - i know how you feel not finding the time to express ! .. I found it hard too and gave up for a while ..then when ds started taking fm from bottle , he started having proper naps so I was able to express at last ! but now Im weaning him onto fm full time so Im only expressing twice a day producing 6-7oz each time ( morning & evening ) so Hes getting ebm & fm at the mo but I can feel my milk supply is decreasing s0 by the time i stop breast feeding my boops wont ache

Yes Men can be idiots !- Im looking forward to going away for 2 nights so then DH will get a taste of what Ive been through so Im not stamping my feet too much on this occasion !

Olihan · 04/05/2007 20:12

So the latest twist in the Olihan moving saga is......

the problem isn't with the first time buyer at all. It's the same solicitor who was holding things up last time, who is now lying through his teeth to our solicitor about the rest of the chain. We only found out about it because dh persuaded our solicitor to bypass him and contact the first time buyers' solicitor direct. She knew nothing about any problems and said they were all ready to go. They signed contracts last week as arranged, whereas this other solicitor has been saying they were refusing to . So we should exchange on Tuesday and move at the end of next week.

I promise when this is all over I will stop being so self involved!

AQ, great news about the bf, I'm so pleased it's all come together at last!

The other big news from me (and I've hesitated over posting it for fear of jinxing it but it's happened for several days now so I think I'm safe!) but ds2 has worked out how to fall asleep by himself . Up until Monday he needed to be walked around until he fell asleep so I thought I'd tackle it after the move. Then on Monday he was fussin and not snuggling when I was trying to walk him around so I put him in his cot and he just fell asleep. Now he likes a quick feed then straight into his cot and he just drifts off. I have no idea why he's suddenly decided this is good but I'm not complaining!

and (shhhh, don't tell him I told you) he's been going for 3 hours between night feeds so I'm only getting up twice a night now, woo hoo .

weirdbird · 04/05/2007 21:04

Hugs Oli

Hope you do move next week.

Know what you mean about not wanting to jinx behaviour by posting about it, it would seem every time I say Hannah is doing something and seems to be in a routine with it she stops the moment I post so hesitate to say anything now

But I have had a great day with her today and am just trying to make the most of her wanting me and keep reminding myself that soon she won't want to sit on me for hours so make the most of it...

Anyone else trying to decide if they want more kids?

Contraception is a pain for us as I cant take any hormonal types and DD1 was conceived using condoms so dont have huge faith in them, DH is going to have the snip when we are done, part of me REALLY wants another baby, but I really don't know if I can take another problem pregnancy, and would it be fair on the other 2 to put them through it....

Decisions, decisions

Hope everyone has a GREAT bank holiday weekend, anyone up to anything exciting?

glassslipper · 05/05/2007 08:43

Morning everyone. DD2 has well and truly settled into a pattern of bed at 8.30, wake at 3 for a feed then back to sleep and then wake at 6am. yawn. Not sure whether that is good or bad. Cant wait for that feed to be dropped

Not even thinking of contraception now. Although i was after about a month (bizarre). Have you thought about the coil weirdbird? Not the mirena, just the normal one.

accessorizewithbabysick · 05/05/2007 19:12

yeah, I had normal coil, I don't get on with hormones. And Yes, I'm thinking about no.3 too wb! Ridiculous isn't it. I'd really like to call it quits in some ways and get on with other bits of my life/plans that kind of thing. But not sure if I consider my family complete yet. Would love a girl but of course can't guarantee one this time round!

accessorizewithbabysick · 05/05/2007 20:48

ooh, quick indith, lady selling nearly new swaddlebees on the nappy lady site! I know they're on your wish-list!

accessorizewithbabysick · 05/05/2007 22:05

scratch that, indith. Have just bought pocket swaddlebees & ds2 prob won't fit in it until he's 9 months as it's 22 pounds-. Darn. It looked so pretty!

lucy5 · 05/05/2007 22:16

Just popping in to say hello! ds has a tooth coming through, I can't believe it! Dd didn't have a tooth in her head until after she walked.

weirdbird · 05/05/2007 22:50

I have been considering the normal coil GS, but my GP wasn't overly keen as it might trigger me bleeding again, basically I am a medical nightmare and have bleed non stop on and off for the last 10 years for no reason they can find. I started bleeding at 17 and didnt stop till I was 21, during this time I had a LOT of investiagtions to try and find a definitive cause including surgery and they couldnt find one, I have a hormonal imbalance that they can't seem to sort out or pin down that causes it. They had told me I wouldnt be able to conceive so my first DD was a shock and I know I am very blessed to have Hannah now as well.

But yes GP is wary about doing anything that might trigger it to start again as it did after I had DD1 but at the same time I am not keen to abstain until we are decided on having a 3rd for definite but she wants me to think about it some more...

Really wish they could put men on the pill.....

accessorize - We would quite like a boy, maybe we could swap but yes am also not ready to do anything that would call a definite end to this as the complete family.

Magnolia - Did you buy anything??????!!??

Oli & Margo - Hoping you've had some better news today! Or at least are able to relax and enjoy the Bank Hoiday weekend...

glassslipper · 06/05/2007 07:47

Monring everyone.

DD has been grizzly at 7pm for the last 2 nights. We put her down at 7.20 last night without any extra milk and she slept until 5am!!!! It is difficult to know if is overtiredness, tummy ache (she hasnt been for 2 days), teehing, or a reaction to the jabs....but she is sleeping better. Weird.

WB - cant men have implants these days? might be worth checking.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 06/05/2007 10:54

Good morning - It was our 6th wedding anniversary yesterday, we were going to go out but I had a rotten tummy bug yesterday and didn't get out of bed. Dh was doing packing and the laundry by himself yesterday. He's a wonderful man. I will catch up with everyones posts later

OP posts:
magnolia1 · 06/05/2007 22:41

Happy anniversary Margo, It is our 12th Anniversary today. Didn't even buy each other a card

I bought a bra from Ann Summers but can't wear it till I stop b/f

glassslipper · 07/05/2007 08:46

Must be anniversaries all round as ours is this week too!

DD2 was up 4 x in the night This is after she slept 7pm-5am the night before and we thought we'd cracked it.

She did her first poo in 3 days yesterday but bizarrely it wasnt enormous and didnt give her any trouble. We're spending much less on nappies than we did with DD1 .

Solids are going down a treat - she particularly loves yoghurty type things and carrots. Cant help worrying about her weight (even though the hv said not to) so hopefully the extra food will help a bit.

Hope you're all ok and have a good bank holiday. DH is working so just a normal day for us.

Indith · 07/05/2007 09:40

Don't encourage me AQ!

Hectic weekend including DP's gran's 80th in Leeds and a friend's wedding in Chesterfield. Fun fun. Ds has been a little star though and last night I only got up once! (mind you didn't get home til 9.30 so just woke him up (he slept all th way home on the train), changed him, fd him and put him down and he lasted til 1.45. Didn't even have any of the usual early morning fuss!

Weighed him on bathroom scales at the weekend and he is about 16lb now, my arms certainly know they've been holding him all the time. Bloody weddings with nowhere to dump babies for a kickabout!

By the way. squeezing into prepreg bra because it is the only one that will fit under nice top you bought at last minute for wedding because you had nothing to wear for it is NOT a good idea.

Gloria42 · 07/05/2007 09:42

My DP is golfing today - enjoying HIS Bank Holiday !
I'm off to Mother and Baby Group for Baby massage class. Hopefully this is going to help DS's constipation. Anyone else's LO who's having solids suffering? And any suggestions what I can do to help him?

Indith · 07/05/2007 09:44

Actually AQ...encourage me! Go on! if ds is 16lb already size one only goes up to 18lb!

glassslipper · 07/05/2007 10:16

wow. my DD is 12lb !

accessorizewithbabysick · 07/05/2007 10:55

Goodness, indith, ds2 16 pounds too but he's 22 weeks! I have stupidly bought 2 nappies that won't fit him until he's 9 or 10 months drat.

Didn't really need to encourage you now did I? I see you've started your own thread anyway!

Indith · 07/05/2007 11:03

Well you know thought I'd get some expert input before I exercise my credit card

Can't believe how big he is now, will be 4 months on Friday! Has to slow down at some point right? I thought I'd have at least another couple of months before nappy shopping again!

At least you didn't get them too small, won't be all that long til he fits them

jabberwocky · 07/05/2007 16:59

My anniversary was Saturday too Margo How funny that so many of us got married in May. Also #6. We have a big party every year as it's cinco de mayo and our anniversary. It's kind of nice b/c we stop and think, yea, it's pretty cool that we got married. In our current sleep-deprived state we sometimes (especially me) tend to forget that .

Last time I weighed ds2 he was 14 pounds. I think that was about 2 weeks ago. Nice to know he's in the range of the others.
