New thread to celebrate the small things (like first smiles and eating steak with one hand), commiserate over the less fabulous stuff (poonamies, vomit eruptions and wind spring to mind) and someone to talk to at 4am Grin

@EsmesBees I think my curly hair was often a bit of a mess when I was little. It was often plaited actually. But I think @dreamofhungarianlanterns is right about oil or serum. That's usually key for curly hair.

Badgerbird · 18/07/2017 12:25

Good God mighty anyone in your situation would be on their knees by now! What a nightmare Sad
Have you managed to get any help with the feeding/finding out what's causing mini mighty so much distress?

You are doing a great job and you are exactly the mummy that mm needs and wants. Take all the support you can get and try to be a bit kinder on yourself. You have been juggling way more than most xx

esme I love that photo Smile So cute!

Badgerbird · 18/07/2017 12:34

Anybody else on here with dark skin, hair and eyes who have had a fair baby?

Baby Badger has white skin (I'm brown) and gorgeous blue/grey eyes, mid brown hair. I'm aware she could still change but I wouldn't have thought she'd change that much. I find it fascinating.

She's utterly gorgeous of course (pfb) and looks just like her daddy down to the long legs and big feet Shock

Anybodies baby changed skin/eye/hair colour yet?

teainbed · 18/07/2017 12:58

@mightymouse76 hope you're doing ok.

@EsmesBees what a sweet photo! No clue with curls I have poker straight hair.

@Badgerbird I am fair and blonde and DH is a little darker but not much. Of our four, DS1 is fair with blue eyes but tans, DD1 is fair and blonde and does not tan, DD2 has golden brown hair and tans very deeply she's like a little berry! All blue eyed. BabyTea has dark hair currently but fair eyebrows and lashes so I'm wondering if he'll end up fair.

EsmesBees · 18/07/2017 13:13

Thanks dream and rise. I'll will try both oil and serum. Mine is dead straight too tea. It's much easier to deal with than curls.

Badger I find it fascinating too. Still a bit sad that neither of mine have inherited their dad's bright red hair.

Having a bit of a tough day today. Baby Bees is waking up more at night, and being fussy about naps in the day so I'm tired, dd1 is potty training and pushing boundaries left right and centre, and it all feels a bit relentless. I love breastfeeding but starting to doubt it's going well as she's so unsettled and it feels like the walls are closing in a bit. Plus, and I know there is nothing to be done about this, I'm still struggling with grief. It's coming up to a year since my mum died and I feel like everyone else has forgotten she was even here. I'm waiting for my first counseling session so hopefully that will help. But days like today are hard.

ClaireSunflower · 18/07/2017 13:14

@Badgerbird I really don't know what baby Sunflower will end up looking like. I am blonde with blue eyes and DH is dark hair, olive skin and hazel eyes. The baby was born with brown hair which looks like it's getting a little lighter. He has very dark blue eyes currently and mine are light blue so I think they'll end up changing

jennymac31 · 18/07/2017 13:24

@badgerbird - baby nate is very fair in complexion with dark brown hair & eyes. I'm dark in complexion so nate has got my hair & eyes (dh has blue eyes). I don't think nate's complexion will change that much, as he's a spitting image of dd and she's still quite fair in complexion at the age of 4.

I'd be surprised if baby badger's complexion/eyes/hair will change that much but you never know.

teainbed · 18/07/2017 16:01

@EsmesBees that sounds really tough. What would help do you think? Can potty training be put on hold? Does your older child go to any childcare? HV suggested to me last week to consider giving a bottle a day in order to extend breastfeeding a bit longer, would you consider this? Sometimes as you know you just have a rubbish few days and then it eases up, post growth spurt or whatever.

1004Rise · 18/07/2017 18:04

@EsmesBees that's a lot of juggling, I still don't know how those of you with DCs already manage to divide your time 😳

@mightymouse76 hope you've managed to get a bit more sleep

Quick question what are you doing to share photos with family that are far away? We've been using an Apple shared album but it doesn't put photos in date order, does anyone have anything better?

EsmesBees · 18/07/2017 18:48

Thanks rise and tea. Hopefully it's just a bad few days and things won't seem as bad once I've had some sleep. Did the HV have any suggestions about when to do a bottle tea? I'm definitely open to the idea.

Rise we use a Google shared album. I'm pretty sure it does date order.

vanilla8 · 18/07/2017 21:08

Sending hugs to @mightymouse76 and @EsmesBees

We are doing a bottle at night in the theory it takes longer to digest formula therefore he will sleep longer! It's worked a few nights but not some.

Baby vanilla is now feeding much quicker in the last few days now- anything between 6-10 mins per feed. Although time between feeds is between 1 and half to 2 and half hours. The growth spurt days have been bad but thankfully he has been ok last couple of days.

savagehk · 18/07/2017 22:05

Google drive has facility for date order. I'm also WhatsApp ing although just lost my entire history due to phone issues (despite having backed up).

Rustler74 · 19/07/2017 00:34

@Badgerbird have you considered being a nanny where you can bring your own bubba? Just Wondering x

Rustler74 · 19/07/2017 00:40

Sorry guys I've ignored you a bit but I miss you. I just can't keep 2 social media platforms going! If you are still on here as well as on fb can you let me know on fb thread? Sorry to mix it up but I'm getting confused who's who.
I also feel a social coming up perhaps somewhere first half august if anyone fancies ? London or whipsnade Zoo anyone? I'm a member but I understand if you aren't that it can get a bit steep costwise whilst our babies don't really enjoy it yet.

Badgerbird · 19/07/2017 01:57

esme everything is going to feel more difficult whilst you are dealing with grief I would have thought. It really hasn't been that long has it. What a year! Have you got anything planned in memorial? I don't mean to pry but wondering if that could help..

jenny was Nate born with brown eyes or did they change?
My friends DH is dark and she is fair and both her girls were born more fair then turned darker as they got older... I don't think baby Badger will change much now either.

rise I just use what's app to send regular updates and photos to family near and far. I've also used TouchNote to send out thsnkyou cards.

Badgerbird · 19/07/2017 06:22

Hey rustler!! How are you doing? Enjoying being a mummy? Smile

I'm up for a social but not zoo for me.
Yes I'm keeping my eyes open for nanny with own child jobs starting in new year. There aren't as many around as there used to be....

jennymac31 · 19/07/2017 07:29

@badgerbird - both dd and nate were born with brown eyes. I had secretly hoped that nate would come out with blue eyes and ginger hair like my cousin but he still pretty adorable and am pretty sure his straight hair will turn curly before he turns one, as that's what happened with dd's hair.

teainbed · 19/07/2017 08:16

@EsmesBees yes afternoon or evening. She did make lots of other suggestions that didn't involve formula. I am giving a breastmilk top up in the evening which I am considering making a formula one. It wasn't what I was intending to do but it's where I am just now.

Acorncat · 19/07/2017 08:30

@EsmesBees we're also toilet training, with mixed success. DS wet himself cos I took too long getting DD out of the car yesterday Sad. I was going to wait a while longer but he's decided he wants to use the toilet so that's that really.

My DS is blue eyed and blonde like me, DD so far is darker like DH so I'm hoping she gets his hazel eyes.

MrsJW15 · 19/07/2017 12:07

Also interested in how you are all dealing with photos. I have an icloud shared album which my family use but DH doesn't have an iPhone so can't use it! We spend a lot of time whatsapp-ing pictures to each other!

Rockyroad17 · 19/07/2017 12:41

We're also doing whatsapping. A friend of mine set up an email account for the baby and sends pics at the time with a little description - or on days where the baby has reached a milestone. The idea is he will have access when he is old enough to appreciate it. Also means others can email pics / messages to the baby. I want to do it but haven't yet gotten around to it. A relative also set up a Facebook account for their little one. Same kind of idea I guess...

@rustler74 I would be interested in meeting up but Whipsnade is probably a bit far as I don't have a car. Maybe we could find somewhere relatively central again? I would suggest a park but this weather is not really park suitable and God knows whether we'll have any more summer days?!

teainbed · 19/07/2017 13:33

Don't ask me how it works but we have a OneDrive account that links to our laptops and phones and everything is automatically uploaded there. It puts them in folders but if you wanted to do specific ones for a holiday for instance, you'd need to do it manually.

savagehk · 19/07/2017 14:54

I'm down south for a concert and meet up with others weekend 19 aug. Not booked travel/accommodation yet so might be able to squeeze something in.
