New thread to celebrate the small things (like first smiles and eating steak with one hand), commiserate over the less fabulous stuff (poonamies, vomit eruptions and wind spring to mind) and someone to talk to at 4am Grin

Has anyone had to change formula brand due to baby not pooping ? We ended up at the dr last week and we're given baby suppository. Have had to use it 3 times in 2 weeks but he still doesn't manage to go on his own and really strains and struggles!

@Adventuregame we had to change the topup formula brand due to the little one having very loose stools and excessive winds Confused

Did you have to check with Health Visitor first ? What did you change from and to ? Thank you

I'm another one joining the fussy baby in the evening group. LO feeds every 2/3 hours throughout the rest of the day but turns to almost constant feeding in the evening. Makes it very hard to get dinner cooked!
Coming up to 6 weeks im EBF but LO seems to get bad wind. I thought breastfed babies didnt usually get it too badly?! Can't ever seem to get it up and then struggles and seems really uncomfortable at the other end... @adventure the only thing that seems to help is laying baby on the left side and patting back. Oh and cycling legs. Gosh this parenting lark is not easy!
Also we have pimple type white heads on the cheeks... any suggestions as to what they are caused by/ what might help?

rocky they are probably milk spots. If so, harmless and go away themselves.

Cox for me, last time, it got easier at 6/7 weeks when the cluster feeding reduced and I got some evenings back, plus she started to be awake a bit longer and smile. And then again at 12 weeks when she suddenly got much faster to feed, started being more interested in the world.around her, and fell in to a more predictable pattern. I've been where you are, and this bit feels endless, buy I promise you it's not. Looking back on when dd1 was a newborn, I know it was hard, but it's the lovely bits that stick in my memory, rather than the hard times.

I've lurked through all the threads for the last 9 months, just didn't have much to add.

BabyAcorn is almost 4 weeks old, reassuring to read how everyone else is getting on. I have the opposite problem of having too much milk so feeds can be stressful with choking and spluttering and screaming until she's just too upset to continue Sad. I had the same problem with my DS as well. Plus I think she's starting to show signs of allergies and reflux like her brother.

Can I ask a gross question - those with just breastfed babies - are their poos stringy/mucousy? I've tried googling but it's not helping Confused

Hugs to all of you struggling with breastfeeding, makes me realise how lucky I've been. We're regularly (4+1) getting 2.5/3 hours between feeds and managing 3 2.5/3.5 hour stints at night. She stocks up between 9 and 11 at night and that's the time we have problems with wind because she's a bit frantic. I'm just waiting for it all to fall apart. Feeds during the day are just 10 - 15 minutes. I am noticing however she's not feeding to sleep as much anymore, she requires a bit of bouncing 🤔

Starting to go a bit stir crazy, not being able to get out by myself is wearing a bit thin. Had a bit of a breakdown with DH this weekend 😖 many tears 😭 Going to aim to get out for a walk with the pram each day this week regardless of the weather.... digging out my winter gloves so I have no excuse!!!

@Adventuregame I did not bother to check with HV as the baby gets only one bottle per day. At the beginning we bought ready made bottles of Aptamil which seemed to be tolerated. Aptamil milk powder caused poonami/ excessive winds so we switched to cow&gate milk powder. C&G seems to be OK although makes a little one a bit windy. I have also ordered lactofree SMA milk powder. I am lactose intolerant myself and wondering if the little one may be prone to it too Confused

@1004Rise you have my utmost sympathy. Not being able to go outside with baby newbie due to non-stop feeding and hanging out from my boobs is taking its toll here too 😭 I am usually spending a lot of time doing stuff at home or gardening when the weather is nice but nowadays it's impossible. Baby is too small to be constantly fed in a safe position in the sling.

@Rockyroad17 I'm breastfeeding too and he's really windy, it's causing him lots of pain which is awful to see. I've tried infacol, colief and now gripe water. Colief seemed to help a bit but it's a pain to administer as you have to mix with milk so I was expressing. Now he's old enough we started on gripe water today. He seems less bubbly but still in pain.

Acorn welcome to the thread! To answer your question, no mucus here. Baby centre has a gallery of baby poo (!) That might be useful.

Hi all
Not caught up - because I am so in love with my little boy - arrived yesterday morning after two days of induced labour by emergency c section. I will write out birth story at some point because even though it was everything I didn't want, I couldn't be happier.
Baby Page was whipped to NIcU when first born but cleared up fairly quick and once we pushed chased and then just cried, they finally let me meet him 6 hours later. They had to feed him during those 6 hours so had put tube down his through :-( the second we got that removed he was straight on the boob.
Doing what I think is a good latch - but will go back and compare to the YouTube clips i watches!! He had about an hour at 8 last night and then 2hour feed around midnight! He is fast asleep and I am just staring at him wondering how the hell we made something so cute!!
Can't wait for daddy to get back here so I can have an hour or two of sleep where I know someone watching him.
Hope all are well xxxx

Hello @Acorncat 👋🏼
My baby's poos are a bit mucousy, but he's mixed fed (1 bottle a day) so not sure whether that would change it.

Congratulations Mrs Paige so lovely to hear you so happy especially after what sounds like a difficult time. Welcome little one Smile remember we have very few very tiny babies left on the thread now so feel free to post multiple newborn pics! Goes for you too rasperry and molly and anyone else who wants to share

Nice to have you join us acorn, welcome and congratulations

Having spent a couple of days hammering eBay for breastfeeding dresses, all of which have now arrived, I better go and get ready for my first and rather early visitor of the day. If anyone is wondering whether to invest I would say jojo ones are lovely cut and make public feeding almost elegant... almost, til baby pukes all down you. Can be picked up for reasonable price too. Asked DP to hang one of said dresses up and he got rather flustered 'this thing's got more holes than a sieve'! Grin

Congratulations mrspage!

@dreamofhungarianlanterns - love the comment about the dress having more holes than a sieve. Sort of thing my dh would say.

Welcome acorn!

We're not doing too badly. Am actually planning on switching formula milk from cow & gate to aptamil, as the c&g milk doesn't seem to be filling baby up (even the 'hungry milk version) plus baby does get quite windy and has the odd episode of watery poos. I remember dd feeding very well with aptamil so we shall see if it makes any difference.

Hope you are all taking care of yourselves xx

Congrats mrspage! Lovely pic!
We had an awful night- baby kept spitting his dummy out then flipping out when he didn't have it. We had exactly the same issues with dd so got rid of her dummy around 4 months. I honestly must've replaced this dummy every 2 mins for 3 hours...that's ridiculous, eh?! He fed, burped and changed but just wouldn't settled...I was also conscious of him waking my daughter- that would e been horrendous!!
Oh well, it's done now! I now need to go and pretend to be a functioning person now Confused

Thanks for the new thread!

rocky baby sipper has those white spots too!

So helpful to hear how everyone is getting on. I'm having similar dummy issues - having to hold it in for ages!

Baby sipper has done a couple of 4 hr sleep stretches between 9pm-1am but they seem to have stopped! Very sad about this...was feeding in bed at 8.30 and having a great sleep! Back to every 2 hrs now! Also, she doesn't really 'settle' after a feed - I wind her and she burps, but she is sort of snorting and grunting and wriggling for ages! She doesn't cry or anything but I can't help feeling like I should be doing something about it!

What day did everyone's baby lose their cord stump? We are on day 18 here and its still on so MW hasn't discharged us yet.
Feel like every friday morning is taken up by going to clinic so they can have a look (well in reality it is!) But have read the average is 1-2 weeks after birth.
Its not leaking/red/smelly so think it must be ok just taking its time!

@Rockyroad17 baby rabbit has spots. The health visitor said it was baby acne and will disappear on it's own.

@Acorncat hello! Nappies aren't really mucussy but are very yellow, runny and sometimes a bit lumpy. Like there is seeds in it.

@MissMooMoo My LO lost his cord stump day 3 (sorry that's not much help for you). We were told to keep it dry and out of the nappy and that seemed to work.

Had an awful evening, night and morning. Last evening LO started eating just before 6pm and continued for over 3 hours, gradually getting more manic and distressed - pulling himself off and screaming and then diving for the nipple again. Finally got him to sleep at about 12 only for him to wake at 2.30am. He's been restless but not really wanting to eat much since then. He will lie in his crib but doesn't settle and after 30mins of squeals and grunts and shuffling he screams to be picked up and it starts all over again. Today is going to be a long day if this continues 😱

Am keeping is dry and out of the nappy by folding the front down.

Morning all! Thank you for the shiny new thread. Babynorthern has been bad with wind too, lots of grunting and straining before huge facts, and he's almost impossible to burp. I'm using Infacol, which I used with DD1, but I'm sceptical as to whether it works tbh, and he isn't too impressed judging by his face when he tastes it. However last night he managed a 9.30-4am sleep (!), so I shall persevere!
We've been getting lovely smiles for a couple of weeks now, which makes all the broken sleep worth it!
TMI but poo here tend to be very yellow and runny, with lumpy bits, but not mucusy.
