New thread to celebrate the small things (like first smiles and eating steak with one hand), commiserate over the less fabulous stuff (poonamies, vomit eruptions and wind spring to mind) and someone to talk to at 4am Grin

@BouncingBlueberry that's awesome news!!

EsmesBees · 21/06/2017 16:53

That is great blueberry!

I can see baby Bees starting to fall in to patterns of sleeping and feeding (almost 4 weeks), but she has to fit in with the toddler, poor lamb. So I tend to wear her in the sling until dd1 has gone to bed at 7, and then lie down with the baby and feed her to sleep. Normally she'll go down about 8. I tend to join her at about 9!

Rabbitykins55 · 21/06/2017 17:28

Has anyone else been feeding loads today? I'm assuming it's because it's hot and he's thirsty?

Paige84 · 21/06/2017 18:08

Yup. Fed at least hourly since 10am. He's very grumpy too!! I'm hoping it's just the heat.

Rockyroad17 · 21/06/2017 18:11

Feeding all day! GP said I should be looking to feed every 3 hours. Grin Think we're quite some time away from that being achieved!

Rabbitykins55 · 21/06/2017 18:13

@Paige84 me too!

@Rockyroad17 three hours?! That's a pipe dream! 😂

ClaireSunflower · 21/06/2017 18:33

Mine is feeding constantly today too and I'm a bit worried about overfeeding as he's formula fed but he seems thirsty so just feeding on demand. Very grumpy in this heat too. Looking forward to it cooling down!

Walkerbean16 · 21/06/2017 18:40

@crazy gorgeous photo! How old is your LO? He looks so big in the sleepyhead compared to isabelle!

I feel really guilty reading this thread about all your lack of sleep etc as Isabelle sleeps for 3/4 hours at a time, has a couple of periods of being awake during the day but mostly sleeps and feeds then goes back to sleep! (Im going to regret saying that now she will probably be up all night!) She has really just fit in, i guess she has too with two older siblings!

MrsJW15 · 21/06/2017 20:20

@FoxMulder glad it's not just me! Baby W is most sleepy from midnight until lunch time! She's most alert from 5pm onwards and often refuses to sleep all evening.

Great work @BouncingBlueberry!

Baby W likes the sling when we are out but less so at home.

Although having said all of this... I talked to mum about it all today and she said not to make any judgements based on the last few days as it's been so hot. She's eaten a lot but I'm sure it's because of the weather. Does feel a bit constant. I'm sure it's largely thirst @Rabbitykins55.

newbieho · 21/06/2017 20:33

@BouncingBlueberry good news!

Baby newbie is feeding constantly too and does not want to fall iff the boob. Looking forward to the cooler weather.

WishIWasSleeping · 21/06/2017 21:36

@EsmesBees - they have good helpful days, and then not so much. My DD still has her moments of jealous / tantrum over DS. She frequently tries to sit on my knee when I'm feeding - and also enjoys poking my nipples.

We had over an hour of both of them whinging and crying at me last night at bedtime. Neither would settle if I held the other and I couldn't hold one long enough to summon sleep ... baby wish (DS) finally slipped into the land of nod swaddled in a hooded towel. DD was cuddled to sleep.
For the first couple of weeks she was really good at having her bottle in her cot lying down, and maybe hand holding. This has gone totally out of the window! So last nights bedtime was gone 10pm!
DS generally goes to sleep around the same time as DD, about 9:30-10, which is fine by me.
This morning they both woke up at 5:40. I don't know why... and then DD has only had a 40min nap (usually around 2hrs during the day) .... so I brought bedtime forward, managed a bath for DD and they were both cuddled whilst they drank and both milk drunk by 8pm.... tonight was blissfully easy..... and I can't sleep because it's so freaking warm.
Swings and roundabouts hey!
I just know they are going to be up early tomorrow... Hmm

crazyzooo · 21/06/2017 22:46

Argh it's so hot!! Had a scary experience earlier.. I drove to visit a friend for lunch this morning , about 45 minutes including motorways. Quite happy for both crazy-baby and me to be in the air condition! On the way home I decided to fill fuel at a motorway services (they have an M&S and I fancied an easy dinner!), so went on the motorway for 1 junction with quarter if a tank...

Half way between junctions there was a massive crash about 200m ahead and motorway came to a complete stop... Fire engines/ police cars / ambulances and air ambulance... and I was stuck as a stuck thing in a car with a baby in 32c heat and with the sun shining on the car. Was starting to panic a bit, watching the tank empty slowly with the aircon on full, when a lovely lorry driver offered for us to sit in his cab to keep cool !! Thankfully there didn't appear to be any fatalities and traffic started moving after about 45min, so didn't have to take him up on his offer.

Thank you nice lorry man! I can now add breast feeding on the motorway to my "BF bingo" and have also changed a poonami nappy standing in a que of traffic....

@walkerbean16 the crazy-baby is 8 weeks old now but was born 4 weeks early. He was tiny in the sleepyhead to start with but has grown about a head (!) since birth. Keep taking loads of photos because it goes so fast!

I have a very awake baby, she doesn't want fed or cuddles she just wants to be awake and I know she'll want to start tomorrow (today)?at 5 am 😖

Rustler74 · 22/06/2017 00:16

So it's gone midnight. My 4 week old son has been feeding shorter times in the last 8 hours than normally and he's not shown much interest in the boob for what otherwise would have been his slumber feed before sleeping. He's been more 'alert' at times during the day but fairly sleepy now (heat?!).
Fontanella not sunken too much and skin hydrated ok. Shall I put him in Moses and go to sleep? Set alarm for 3.30-4.00am ? Or try to force feed one more time?
He was like this in his first week but I thought he'd found some sort of a routine.
Oh we've had plenty wet nappies, although 1-2 less than otherwise.

Badgerbird · 22/06/2017 00:34

walker that octopus is such a lovely idea!!! Baby walker looks so cute.

crazy and fox I love that you guys feed asleep, sounds perfect :)

barnes and claire I really feel for you. I had a really rough couple of days where Carla Rose just fed and cried all day with no naps before an evening meltdown. Horrid and I felt broken. I'm lucky that I had my mum here so even though I couldn't sleep (coz baby didn't) I could at least hand her a screaming baby every now and again for a 5 min break/cry!!

I even gave in at one point and gave her a formula top up after bf thunking she must be starving.... she didn't drink it all, carried on screaming after then slept for 4.5 hours, I freaked out and woke her as she needed a certain amount of feeds (according to mw) and my boobs were rather sore. Shit night.

I know what you mean about waiting fir them to start screaming to be red barnes :(

Badgerbird · 22/06/2017 03:02

blueberry great news about meds! Sorry about sleep :(

That sounds like a nightmare crazy!! Thankgod no fatalities and brilliant job on poonami nappy change and bf!!

Hey rustler only just saw your post. Hope baby r ok? You've prob fed by now...

EsmesBees · 22/06/2017 04:24

Rustler let him sleep is my general advice. They change all the time at the moment, and will drink more some days than others.

That was lovely of the lorry driver crazy. Sounds stressful.

I am so glad the temperature had dropped. These last.few days have almost broken me. My new bfeeding experience today was feeding with my feet in the paddling pool at our park while the toddler had a splash. It was lovely.

savagehk · 22/06/2017 06:45

I'm another in the no waking a sleeping baby camp....

teainbed · 22/06/2017 12:11

What did you do in the end @Rustler74 ? Well baby, not premature etc I'd let them sleep!

That sounds like a nightmare @crazyzooo ! Well done to the nice lorry driver.

@Barnes79 @ClaireSunflower how are you both doing today?

Hope it's a bit cooler today for all the babies.

We've had two good nights back to back so feeling more human. BabyTea has done a longer stretch at the beginning of the night which is a bit inconvenient as you end up with an extra feed but my recollection was that this was the start of slightly better sleep with others.

newbieho · 22/06/2017 13:33

Baby newbie slept during the day for longer than 10 minutes - YIPEEE!!! Grin

Badgerbird · 22/06/2017 13:56

My mums taken little one on a walk so I can sleep.... ofcourse I haven't slept but had lie down, great shower, lunch and now want to see my baby!! I miss her, it's weird without her Grin You can't win!

Yay to daytime sleep newbie!!

crazyzooo · 22/06/2017 14:41

@newbie happy sleeping! Do you feel like a new woman? Smile

Any other babies had their first vaccine? Crazy baby is distraught ... Think his little legs are painful as he won't feed with anything near his thighs. Only way he will stop crying is to lay tummy to my chest, so we are stuck in bed!!

Afternoon ladies

Had my 6 weeks check up. I recall one of you ladies saying that they had been to the physiotherapist for Divarification issues. If I'm right in my recollection, are you finding the exercises are working? I'm struggling to find my pelvic floor (as ridiculous as that sounds) so don't feel as though the exercises are actually reducing the 'gap' in my stomach.

Got baby nate weighed today and he's doing well.

Also managed to go to 'baby pictures' again and saw wonder woman, as I liked the idea of sitting down in a nice air conditioned place for a few hours. Nate managed to sleep through most of the movie, which was good.

I've read that babies tend to sleep between 16-20 hours a day but I swear it feels like nate sleeps possibly more than that. He sleeps most of the day but then struggles at night time especially in this heat. I planning on trying to start a routine but I think I might wait until the weather calms down a bit.

Despite this being second time round for me, I feel as though I don't have a clue what to do for baby nate.

Also feeling a bit guilty of my body at the moment as my tummy is a mess but I'm not in any rush to sort it out, although I think dh would like me to get back into shape and eat more healthier foods.

Hope you are all well and apologies for the long post!
