March 2017 babies

So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

I have only used drops but they worked fine. They're fine from birth too. I combined them with a nasal aspirator to suck the gunk out. Lovely! Steamy bathroom also works well just before a feed.

MotherofA · 25/04/2017 07:50

Carol my LO is still struggling with colic / bringing up wind . I have Dr Browns bottles and their teats are 1 = 0-3 months 2 = 3-6 etc so I'm staying with 1 a while longer .
LO also has sniffles and conjunctivitis would you believe bless her so I might check out the saline .
Hope everyone is doing well . After having a catch up on all your posts , I'm going to try having a more set bed time for her Smile

Poor ds really feel for him. Struggling to take his milk too and sleep!

Thanks for the aspirator advice daphne, I've just ordered one from Amazon. Didn't know there was such things!

They are avent, maybe I should invest in some TT ones. Went back to 1 teats on nights feeds and she was fine but still didn't finish her feeds. I even changed her and put a light on and she just slept after 3oz. Even for her 7am feed she had 2oz and has slept since.

Avent do "natural" and "classic" teats, and I think the natural teats are variflow. Info in the link I shared up thread (there is a useful table listing the different types).

NameChange30 · 25/04/2017 10:36

It might not be the teats though carol, maybe she is stopping because she's full, not because the teat is hard work. I reckon if she was still hungry she'd work at it Wink

Carolann8584 · 25/04/2017 10:44

Yeah maybe. Just thought if she had more in each feed she wouldn't be hungry again after 2 hours. Then again if her stomach can't hold more then she hasn't really got much choice on having small feeds.

Getting her weighed tomorrow. She feels sooooo heavy now wonder how much she's put on Smile

purpleviolet1 · 25/04/2017 11:08

Ds is getting weighed too tomorrow! It's exciting. And rewarding! Hopefully. Never thought these little things would mean anything to me lol.

Ds isn't taking much milk though. Reckon it's the cold? He sounds a bit chesty and stuffed nose and coughed few times. Will check with HV if he needs to be seen quicker than Friday by the GP (we have the 6 week check then).

On that note, have any of you had the 6 week check? What does it involve? Going to ask them to check my iron levels as the Lochia lasted 5 weeks (although the last 2 weeks it was really light). I always thought it would be less with a c section!

We have our 6 week check this afternoon - I'll report back!

I bled for a month after the birth and I've heard that's average, so 5 weeks is probably in the normal range. Maybe it's the same for vaginal birth and c-section?

My LO is the same as yours Carol she rarely takes over 3 oz and wakes more regularly. I spoke to a friend whose DD was the same and she was that worried she visited the GP who said you can't starve a baby and you can't over feed her , she knows when she has had enough and that's that . So true so I'm kind of going with it Smile
Thanks everyone for your well wishes , it's 430 so I'll keep you all posted x

Carolann8584 · 25/04/2017 15:31

Got home from the shops at 12:30 She slept the whole time. When she woke at 1 she had 5oz! Kept it all down. Fell asleep at 2 I was hoping she would have a long nap after the big feed. No such look. I prepped all her bottles decided to have a lie down on the sofa she woke after 45 mins Sad

Carolann8584 · 25/04/2017 15:49

Luck not look lol

NameChange30 · 25/04/2017 16:03

Mother
Best of luck for your scan - thinking of you.

Had our 6 week appointment. The doctor asked how we're both doing, whether any problems etc. She weighed DS (he's 6.22kg! was 4.2kg at birth) and checked his eyes, heart, hips etc. Asked me about mood, breasts, bleeding, contraception. That was it!

MotherofA · 25/04/2017 17:46

Hi All, I am SO relieved He said he can't see anything it's just taking longer to heal than the average and the tissue underneath is swollen and still healing ! He said it's just taking a while longer than usual . Thanks for the well wishes .
Carol 5oz is amazing , sorry you didn't get a nap though !
I have post natal and baby's jabs on the 5th.

NameChange30 · 25/04/2017 17:47

Mother That's great news, what a relief! Smile

Carolann8584 · 25/04/2017 19:08

purpleviolet1 · 25/04/2017 21:26

Happy days mother! Shame it's taking longer obviously but glad it's not anything else.

Namechange thanks !

Ds is definitely unsettled with the cold poor soul. Hope it's not going to be a tough night as I'm not feeling fresh at alll...

Ahh all our poor little ones have had a hard time of it haven't they Sad it's awful when they can't tell us how they feel !
As for not feeling fresh I'm with you on that one and it's starting to show in my skin underneath all the slap Grin

purpleviolet1 · 26/04/2017 00:00

😮😯 you are managing slap?! Good on you! I've only worn makeup a handful of times since the birth.. although I did manage a facemask one day and I'm managing to exfoliate every couple days Grin I look exhausted and pale !
