So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

LO had a feed at 10pm, 2:10am, 5am and 8:15am. So a couple of 2 hour sleeps in between. Stayed awake after 8:15 feed for a couple of hours then back to snooze land

Just woke for a feed had 4 of the 5oz and went straight back to sleep, changed her etc to wake her she definitely takes after her daddy. Lol

Hey all , any sort of routine has gone to pot here ! DD feeding here and there , she has had the odd larger feed but a lot of bitting and bobbing .
Also she had the sniffles and conjunctivitis which I'm bathing with cooled boiled salt water :( .
For some reason on her really late feed which ranges between 1-3 am , after her feed she doesn't settle for around 2 hours after , every single night for days now . Fine after all other feeds just not in the middle of the night. I'm exhausted and she kept DP up last night for the first time and he had a really long day today . I don't seem to get time to nap either .
I have a scan Tuesday to find out what this lump is in my stomach . A tad scared but praying it's something infection related which will disappear and I won't need any more surgery .

Carolann sounds similar to my ds. The 4 hour gap between feeds is such a difference from 3 I find.

Hope all goes well on Tuesday mother.. will be thinking of you. Sorry the routine has gone to pot, its most frustrating isn't it. Hopefully the unsettled period during the night will stop...

Lovely to read everyone's updates. No patterns here, just feeds every 3 - 4 hours in the day and 4 overnight, so roughly one feed between 2-4am depending on her last feed. Consequently I've done every night feed since she was born, which means I haven't had more than 4 hours sleep at a time for weeks. I'm really getting tired now. I know it's dramatic as people have it much worse but it feels so hard. My family aren't nearby and so I just have to keep going 🙁
Feeling very tired and weepy today.

purpleviolet1 · 21/04/2017 14:09

It's not dramatic at all Lottie ! It is really hard going. You are doing amazingly well x

mother my DD had a few nights of being awake after her 2-3am feed she wouldn't settle at all until her next feed. Now she goes down straight away after her feeds during the night.

Carolann8584 · 21/04/2017 14:15

It helps that I started using a sleeping bag which stays on her during the feeds so her temp doesn't change. I also keep noise/light or talking to a minimum during night feeds so she stays sleepy.

Carolann8584 · 21/04/2017 16:08

Ah that's lovely Carol and so reassuring to hear you had the same thing with your DD so I know it's a phase which will pass .
I don't think you are being OTT Lottie it's bloody hard !
The scary thing is soon enough all this will be a blur !

I know what you mean hugh I feel like that with just two, like there are hundreds of things that need my attention but not enough time. I found having my first a real shock but in retrospect it was so much easier than having a newborn with a toddler around!

Daphnedown · 21/04/2017 20:03

How old are your older two?

purpleviolet1 · 21/04/2017 21:12

I can't even imagine having a newborn plus another child, massive respect to you!!

I don't know how you do it, I struggle at the weekend with my DSSs and they pretty much take care of themselves

My dd1 is 16 and that's hard enough, I take all my hats off to those that have smaller children as well. And dogs, because my two cats are annoying the shit out of me. And they used to be my babies so I feel guilty as well.

Daphnedown · 22/04/2017 12:38

Wow hugh that is full on. If I had 3 under 3 I'm pretty sure I wouldn't sound as cool as you.

Carolann8584 · 22/04/2017 13:19

Having a weird day with my LO, she woke at 7 for a feed had it all, didn't want to go back down so decided to take her food shopping with me at 8:30. She didn't sleep in the car like usual. Got back at 10 gave her her next feed she had 4oz of 5 then for the next 2 hours kept spitting it up, little by little so it gets 2 12:30 She's showing her usual hunger signs. Thought she would be super hungry given how much she spat up and she only had 3 out of the 4oz. Still spitting bits up, still not wanting a snooze

Daphnedown · 22/04/2017 20:23

She must have been exhausted carol. When did she finally conk out?

Carolann8584 · 22/04/2017 20:36

Finally had 2 hours at 2pm then 1.5 hours at 4 then after putting up a fight she has just gone down at 8:15. Had to show tough love and put her in her Moses basket fussy and crying with her bottom lip going. Took all of 5 mins for her to give up and sleep.

Carolann8584 · 22/04/2017 20:54

And them woke up at 8:50!! Hungry

Carolann8584 · 22/04/2017 21:21

Wanted a 2oz top up, back snoozing now
