kbb I lost my job unfairly a while back and went self employed as I couldn't face another full time job straight away. I could barely keep up with the work within a few months and now it's the best thing I ever did. Obviously it depends what u do and the demand in your area, but it could just be the push you need for something better in the long term. Dh also went self employed a few years back and we were both really worried about his work as it's not a great area for what he does here. He now works 9-10months of the year and earns at least 50%/more than he did employed. I know it doesn't work like that for everyone but I'm saying it doesn't have to be doom and gloom.

CountryGal4 · 03/05/2016 16:27

Sky think I'll be about 1.5 hours by train.

Where are the rest of March madness. Would be great to have all those babies meet at SW meet up?

CountryGal4 · 03/05/2016 17:53

SkyWasMadeOfAmethyst · 03/05/2016 20:16

That's not too bad!

lildottie · 04/05/2016 21:31

Gate-crashing again....can anyone tell me what health visitor will ask at pre birth appointment

jellypi3 · 05/05/2016 07:24

lil I didn't meet mine but apparently toy it's just introducing you to the HV system, and telling you about the apps you will have when baby is here.

Hope you are well

TriJo · 05/05/2016 09:51

Lil Mine at 38 weeks was exactly as Jelly described. It's very informal.

lildottie · 05/05/2016 17:34

Thanks jelly and tri. Sort of associate hvs with being judged on my suitableness to be a parent for some reason so mildly freaking out! Will try to remain calm though :)

jellypi3 · 05/05/2016 18:06

lil remember all HV appointments are optional except for the 6 week and 6 month checks so don't stress. Ive found mine to be totally useless. Luckily I've not struggled too much, and have had great support from the viroids when I have had any issues; but if I'd been struggling more with baby/sleep/bf'ing I'd have been totally lost because my HV isn't interested at all!

How long do you have till lil baby is here?

CountryGal4 · 05/05/2016 18:11

My hv is amazing lil. She came round just to make sure I was ok when I was pulling my hair out when r was suffering with dairy issues.

lildottie · 05/05/2016 18:42

4weeks and 5 days until I'm 39weeks when they plan to induce but no definite date yet. Have clinic appt next Friday after growth scan so hoping I'll have a date then! :)

cookielove · 05/05/2016 20:57

It's odd cause I barely knew my health visitor saw her twice as E was premature! Although I never felt the need to ring her for help. I assume she was a bit aloof! Went to a bumps and babies group and she was there for a professional thing and was very chatty and friendly with several of the other mums!

Mermaid36 · 06/05/2016 07:48

I've had a voicemail from my HV who obviously hasn't had the correct paperwork (or hasn't read it properly) asking when she can come round to see me and the twins...
Need to call her back and explain that they are still in the hospital and will be for another couple of months... or should I just tell her that visiting hours are 3 until 5 every day

CountryGal4 · 06/05/2016 09:04

Shut up lil! Can't believe yours almost due!

lildottie · 06/05/2016 13:41

Bloody hell merm what idiots! Don't imagine you need a HV when you are surrounded by nurses, drs and consultants!

cookie what did you do to upset the HV if she likes the other mums then ;)

country I know. I'm getting far too excited now and this is making time drag!

ZylaB · 06/05/2016 17:12

Eugh mermaid definitely tell her to read her paperwork and the visiting hours!

rdm10 · 07/05/2016 04:52

I had a different hv at each appointment and they were all pretty blah, just seemed to ask questions parrot fashion to tick their boxes. The ones at the weigh in clinic are lovely though.

hippo have you gone back to work now then? How is it? Just had to pop in to work to let them know when I'm returning. Up until that point I'd forgotten the place even existed and I'm going back to that way of thinking (until July 😥)

I've got a very snotty baby (again). How many colds do babies get?? Poor little man seems to just get rid of one then another one comes along.

Just had a lovely week away in Anglesey and the weather was gorgeous.
How's everyone planning on enjoying the sunshine this weekend??

lalalalaa · 07/05/2016 06:36

Hiya

NC back - it wasn't working for me! How are you all

RDM the average is 8-10 in first year. B has had 10 since Christmas :( sorry to hear wee one is poorly today again, hopefully these colds will bugger off now it's warmer and babies can get outside in fresh air.

I'm back 2 days and honestly really enjoying it!! Was awkward on first day as they've hired my mat cover to stay on a few more months to do crossover with mr, and it was obvious they weren't particularly keen to give me my work back and that the hope had been that I wouldn't come back at all. But it's ok now after a few meetings.

Mermaid - that pisses me off. They should be more sensitive, can understand though that they must have hundreds of people on their books. But still... You're doing brilliantly

lalalalaa · 07/05/2016 06:39

I get on well with my HV - we had problems at the start and we're back in hospital a few times. She was great. Got our 9-12 month check next week. Can't believe he's 9 months old he's such a dude! He started crawling on Wednesday and also now can stand without holding on.

We are starting to try for no 2 Blush

lildottie · 07/05/2016 09:12

HV was basically just annoying and squeaky. Was good to hear about some of the early checks they do though. Not so good being preached at about breast feeding when I've already said I plan to bf! Thanks for the input all x

Mermaid36 · 07/05/2016 15:09

We bought the girls their first clothes today - admittedly it was some 'premature baby' sized incubator vests (up to 3lbs) but they are very cute, so I don't care! Grin

They are a few days away from being extubated and being put on a different type of ventilation (next step down), and Twinkle1 is now fully BM fed and has no IV/drips etc...Twinkle 2 is a few days behind her Grin

lalalalaa · 08/05/2016 07:51

Mermaid that's amazing news I'm so pleased for you! It must have been amazing to cuddle them for the first time Smile

HV can be hit or miss lil and I think as long as you keep your head you'll be fine - some give out daft advice and you just need to trust your instincts and that you know your baby best. I'm lucky that nine has same view on bf etc as I do, but I've spoken to a daft one on the phone who told me to stop giving him milk at 6 months. Twat.

We are going to take B to the beach today Grin

jellypi3 · 08/05/2016 16:56

Wow great news mer :) bet you can't wait to dress them up! How many weeks are they now gestationally?

Glad to hear work is OK now la! I'm off to London Friday to discuss my return to work plan with my new boss (my old one has resigned!). Going to basically say if they don't match my terms I'm not coming back.

lil I think they have to drone on about bf'ing. Mine certainly does. It's really shocking how low the bf'ing rate is in this country, they are desperate to get more people bf'ing. Are you feeling ok about it? I know I was quite nervous about the idea of bf'ing initially but once R arrived it was so natural and amazing (though not without its challenges). If you do struggle at all let one of us know because early support from the viroids is what kept me going bf'ing.

Mermaid36 · 08/05/2016 17:26

jelly they would be 29+3 if I was still preggers, so 23 days old.

We are off to formally register their births on Tuesday Grin
