Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 10th Just Mumming thread...following the trials and tribulations of our babies, following the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 43rd grads thread is here

The thread we have graduated from is HERE in its 56th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

The previous Just Mumming thread is HERE

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Bloody hell La you're having a rotten time. Hope you're feeling better today.
Hope all the other poorly babies and boobs are better soon

RPopz · 22/01/2016 17:30

Viroids! I think we should rename ourselves the broken boobs club! Sending sympathy and painkillers. Keep feeding/ pumping!

Alas there was no candle Dulcet.... Perhaps I'll suggest that next year... Grin I used to hate smears with a passion but in comparison to pushing a 9lb beast out of your hooha its a walk in the park! Silver linings!

Poor CG ga Hope she's feeling a little better now and penguin is in the wash!

We've been out all day and DS is currently napping..... Hmm That's bedtime fucked then!

RPopz · 22/01/2016 17:31

Chris Brooks wanted us to read his blog I think!

Toast85 · 22/01/2016 18:18

Alas no bleb fleur. I think it's a bit better though still quite hard and lumpy. But not as sore. Though I have had paracetamol. Anyway Melba has chosen today as a boob day so I've had lots of feeding opportunities. Keeping an eye on it and I'll be onto 111 at the first sign of redness/warmth or feeling feverish. Not feeling 100% today but I think it's just the beginnings of a cold.

La you've had one hell of a week! Hope you are managing to get some rest now.

Ga poor CG and penguin! Hope they're both recovering.

DulcetMoans · 23/01/2016 05:19

I just dreamt I went back to work and was pregnant again. It was awful!

There isn't training in EASY purple, it's just a way of understanding a natural baby pattern - they Eat, Activity (play), Sleep and then in theory Y is you time! That's the one it falls down on! I just used it to try and understand what J wanted to do next.

So pleased S sleep is better fleur, you had a rough old time. Hopefully it stays that way! Here it is still every two hours and seems to mostly be for feeding still. If I try and comfort him, even with a dummy, it doesn't seem to be enough. Even the bottle isn't really extending the time between feeds. He's just hungry all night! Or I'm not trying hard enough not to feed him. I thought there would be a pattern by 6 mnths, even if just in the day but I got nothing - just making it up as I go!

How is CG and the penguin ga? Hope it wasn't another night of mopping up piss!

Even that kick in the head didn't wake my DH pud. Not sure how!

We went through a little phase of lots of pooing early Dec essie. Never found out why. Went from one every couple of days to like 6-7 every day, like being a newborn. But it stopped as quickly as it started and he never really seemed ill.

How did bedtime go popz? Hopefully he surprised you! Shame about the lack of cake but at least your flappy fanny meant it didn't hurt. Still need to book mine. Eurgh.

All the poorly boobs! Take care viroids!

RPopz · 23/01/2016 09:18

Is he hungry dulce? Minipopz still wakes two hourly in the night but he doesn't need the milk. He just wants to suck back to sleep. Have you tried porridge for supper? Or sweet potato or banana? Some complex carbs would in theory fill his tummy for longer.

Bedtime was surprisingly ok actually. He seems to have just this week decided that his cot is ok again and not a bed of nails as previously thought Confused I can put him in it in the mythical "drowsy but awake" state and he'll chat himself to sleep. PRAYING this is a permanent development, though I'm sure it'll all go to shit when I'm back at work.....

How's everyone feeling today? BrewCake

Hobbit19 · 23/01/2016 19:39

Ooh well done on bedtime Rpopz!

La/Toast how are your boobs?

Things I have learnt about parenting in the last 24 hours:

  1. When eating dinner on the sofa with a feeding baby balanced on your arm, using a spoon instead of a fork results in less food being dribbled on the baby.

  2. THE LITTLE FINGER IS GENIUS. I've been letting P suck on my finger to settle here. This saves my nipples and helps her to settle in her cot too. It is also much easier than my previous attempts to do this when I have had one leg straddled on the chicco next to me trying to get a boob into the mouth of an awake baby. This actually happened. I am an idiot

Jcandy · 23/01/2016 20:16

Haha excellent imagery there pud! How on earth did you manage it?!

My boobs are so much better now, think I caught it in time with the antibiotics so glad it didn't get worse coz it definitely wasn't fun!

Wow drowsy but awake! I thought they were just making that stuff up!

DulcetMoans · 23/01/2016 20:29

Haha. That sounds athletic pud! I often end up putting J into the cot with a nipple in his mouth and have to tug it out somehow!

Glad the boobs are better JC.

He does seem hungry, yeah popz. At least most wake ups he does feed but I think it is fair to say that one or two he may just be sucking for comfort. I have given him sweet potato for tea (which he loved!) so let's see if that makes any difference!

With a pessary, is the stuff meant to come back out? I used one yesterday evening and this evening stuff is crumbling back out. Not sure that's meant to happen!

RPopz · 23/01/2016 21:29

Haaaa pud! Grin We've all been there.... Hoorah for the little finger!

I suspected as much myself jc.... It's taken almost 13 month for minipopz to discover this phenomenon!!

I think that's pretty normal dulce - It happens to me when I use them anyway.

LaLaLaaaa · 24/01/2016 00:38

Hi!

Epic catch up time!

Happy birthday pis!

Zyla have you left us for the JSing!?! Goooooood luuuuuuuck!!!! That's two grads back on there isn't it?

Toast we are finding weaning hard! It seems my gigantibaby just doesn't want to eat food! So he cries lots. I'm hoping it gets easier soon.

JC how is she now? Colic or wind has to be one of the just frustrating things for parents as there's not a lot you can do! And it affects so much of their life and makes them so miserable. It dies get better - B now just lifts his legs and farts whereas I used to have to do it for him!

Pud - so far we've tried parsnip, sweet potato, butternut squash, carrot, apple and banana, plus baby rice. He likes parsnip, Apple and pear. The others can fuck off. He only likes them for 3 spoonfuls though and then he cries.

They take a lot of pan-age and time to make and I can't be arsed to do anymore so after these are gone he's getting a Happy Meal.

Congrats on eating a whole Christmas cake!!! Respect dude. Word.

My bfing is powered by cake and Galaxy.

LaLaLaaaa · 24/01/2016 00:50

Pud idiot neighbour sounds like a fanny! Dulcet is right that feeds getting shorter as they get more efficient. Longest B stays on is 5 minutes now.

Dulcet you're entitled to lose the plot- you've done 6 months of very little sleep ffs! Can you not have a word with that baby of yours?

I'm currently propped up in bed with sleeping baby. He's got a cold and won't sleep on his back in cot. Mums here and we are tag teaming holding him upright. In between my turn I am pumping my boob to try to get rid of the mastitis. Yay all fun n games!

I also get very little sleep in general. It's improved since he moved rooms but still 3-4 times a night wake ups.

Eddie grabbing ears can be a sign of ear infection but also just some babies do it when tired. B does it when tired it drives me nuts because he wakes himself up.

OP posts:
LaLaLaaaa · 24/01/2016 01:05

Well done on the expressing and feeding! I gave B bottle about once a week just to keep him still able to do it. He now switches between the two really nicely which is great because I want to bottle feed during day and bf at night. Only dropped one feed so far at 1pm and replaced with bottle.

Are you leaving us too popz?

So glad Melba is ok toast! B does that thing with feeling better as soon as Dr calls our name too! We were in paediatric a and e this week and apparently it's known as the place full of newborns wasting time for parents and Dr.

I keep falling asleep and typing gibberish. I think I'm spotting the typos but forgive me if I miss any!

OP posts:
DulcetMoans · 24/01/2016 03:24

3am cuddle to sleep. It's a battle of wills as he is trying to be awake and playing.

Glad to hear that it's normal popz, thought I did it wrong!

Poor B la! Hopefully it won't stick around too long. Is your mum staying the week? I'm often typing and scrolling half awake. Worst but is accidentally playing a video on FB when falling asleep scrolling. Happened more than once!

Jcandy · 24/01/2016 03:53

Wow that was an epic catch up la! She's switched her crying time from 2am to the evening which is much better. It's still heartbreaking to see but at least we aren't achingly tired when it happens. She cried on and off from 7 till midnight last night though

LaLaLaaaa · 24/01/2016 06:28

I wasn't finished! It was my turn to sleep! Carrying on:

Essie (not Eddie - bloody phone!) so pleased you managed a trip out successfully and to hear you're going on holiday, hooray!
Mucous nappies are freaky but we've had loads due to colds. Perfectly fine I've been told but if it goes on too long speak to GP.

My dh has also never been out with B until Thursday just gone as he took him swimming. Baby steps... I was at work

Purple oh my god yes! B can be an absolute pickle to me all afternoon but as soon as daddy arrives he's all bloody smiles. Traitor.

Cookie is E feeling better? You're a childcare worker aren't you? I'm dying to know - how do they get the children to sleep at nursery? Surely if parents can't do it at home then how can nursery person do it? Or if so why have they not capitalised on it and sold their story?

I cried every day for the first month. Mostly about not being able to stroke my cats anymore because they wouldn't come near baby. Now I cry because they want to sit on me AND the baby and it's annoying!

JC how is your guinea pig? I love guinea pigs I used to have loads when I was younger.

I agree with theory that babies think we are extensions of them for first 6 months. I used to complain that B never looked at me. He'd look at everyone else. Suddenly one day a few weeks ago he started looking at me!

Dulcet you do sound down and dong apologise for it!!! Lack of sleep is evil and you've had 6 months of it. I really hope people are wrong and solids improve things a bit for you. Is he on 3 meals yet? We are having to take it dead slow here as B is just not keen and I don't want to put him off by pushing it.

I've never managed the lying down feed. Boob and baby don't line up for some reason. Did you manage it pud?

Who the fuck is Chris brooks!?

Happy birthday popz! Sorry about the smear birthday present!! Grin. Hope you got gin too?

Where did you decide for holiday fleur? Can you believe our babies are 6 months!? Insane! Is his sleep any better and are you giving up bf (feel free not to answer if you'd rather not - it's just coz I know you were thinking of it at 6 months). I've managed to get mastitis or something which I think is due to substituting one feed for formula and also he's dropped a night feed. Bugger.

Kit day was ok apart from I fe down stairs on Wednesday and woke up third feeling like shite. Thought it was due to fall (partly was - head, back and leg bruised) but as day went on I got shivery and ill and I think it's blocked duct/mastitis.

Spoke to boss about returning to work. Hoping to go back earlier on part time basis then start compressed hours when go back full time. Scary talking about this - where's the time going!? It was great being at work though. I missed B but I felt liberated and like 'me' for first time in ages! I miss me. By the time 5pm came I was on my knees with a fever though - boo :(

Pud we do EASY, although it's gone a bit awry last few weeks due to weaning and illness. It does work - B will feed, then so activity and you can then predict when his eyes start to look tired and he gets a bit grumpy and face pully. He goes down to sleep (with rocking - bad La) and when he wakes up he automatically expects fed so I am there with boob ready. Really worked well for us but I know it's not for everyone.

Posting this now in case it gets lost as B is being restless on me

OP posts:
LaLaLaaaa · 24/01/2016 06:36

Dulcet is he sick every time he has formula? Is it possible he's guzzling it?if so have you tried paced feeding? B drains a bottle in 2 minutes if I dont pace him and then throws it up.

Purple not so much training as just starting to follow the routine and it becomes second nature to the baby. Feed, do activity period (like dulcet says this used to be as small as a nappy change but now it can be 2 hours of play), then when they show tired signs get them down for nap.

Toast I saw your duct is better - hooray! I'm really worried about mine - it's not showing redness or pain like mastitis is meant to and there is a massive lump. Mind starting to imagine horrible sinister things like breast cancer. I am just not getting the time to deal with it though :(. Mum arrived yesterday afternoon ( bless her she only went home on Monday! But jumped back on train to give me a hand. I know I need to be expressing and sitting in bath but he's not well and I'm just not getting a chance. He's also refusing to feed on the bad side :(

OP posts:
LaLaLaaaa · 24/01/2016 06:42

Ga is CG any better? Poor wee scone. And is penguin ok?

JC so glad you're feeling better! You must've caught it quickly thankfully. I'm still shivering and feeling like shit. No bleb here. What's going on?

Sitting here holding poorly bub. His nose is totally blocked so we can't put him down. Me and mum have been up all night. Sad

Hooray for the mystical drowsy but awake popz!

LaLaLaaaa · 24/01/2016 06:43

Dulcet - yes pessary crumbles put. Don't use at 4 day festival with no showers. Very uncomfortable!

OP posts:
ZylaB · 24/01/2016 08:15

la I haven't left you! I'm still here, slightly there too, but here as well! Am just feeling somewhat sorry for myself so being quiet. I'll man up soon and snap out of it :)

Toast85 · 24/01/2016 08:16

La I am incredibly impressed with your catch up skills. Epic posting!
Mine was a lump behind nipple, about the size of a grape, and then a large section of boob that felt engorged/swollen. I could feel the edges of it under the skin iyswim.
I tried a bit of feeding acrobatics as they say dangle feeding and feeding with baby's chin pointing to the blocked but can help, so I had to lie Melba on the bed and lean over her from above her head, all a bit awkward but gave it a go.
Also, filled a nappy with very hot water, squeezed out the excess and then used it as a heat pack. Stays hot longer than a flannel and feels nice and soothing.
I did find a teeny tiny white spot which I think was a little blister. Popped it, hand expressed as much as I could from it and then fed from that side again next feed- I think that was what did the trick. It really was only tiny tiny at the surface though.
Can you get to the GP on Monday? Might be worth getting someone to look at it if it's no better. Try not to worry about nasties though, I'm sure it's much more likely to be a weird BF boob thing.

ZylaB · 24/01/2016 08:22

Hope things pick up for you la and dulcet.

H is a year old in just over 2 weeks and we're still up for feeds 4 or 5 times a night on a good night, and that's when she's in with us, which makes her sleep better! She's got my cough so we both feel rubbish and I think it's my turn for bad boob, I dropped another feed yesterday and today my boob really hurts, so it looks like I'm feeding all day again and going backwards with the weaning. It also seems like she hardly has any milk during the day and just wants it all through the night now sigh
Am also stressing massively about Wednesday and what the results of this one's going to say. Just want to curl up and cry to be honest meh

ZylaB · 24/01/2016 08:35

Oh, and I still can't even sit comfortably because of this coccyx pain.

Moan over, sorry

LaLaLaaaa · 24/01/2016 09:22

Oh zyla you need a hug and a moan - you've every right. Don't be daft you don't need to man up, you need support. I hope wee one gets better quickly so you can get your schedule back on track. Can't believe she's almost a year old.

Toast I think my problem is I've not had chance to actually deal with it due to B being ill. He's being very fussy about feeding because he can't breathe so I'm having to sacrifice treating the boob in favour of just getting food into him.
