Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

gosh, i'm not even planning to think about pre pg jeans for months! i don't remember having a bump after ds1 but i def have one now. was lucky ( and naive) last time and the wt/blobbiness just went away on its own. looks like being the wrong side of 30 has caught up with me this time!! will actually have to stop eating chocolate/cake/crisps and do some exercise. Oh bother!!!

with regards coping with older child and newbie. ds1 is at nursery three days a week and i'm not going to win any homemaker of the year awards. BUT my home is a building site so what's the point!

Indith · 23/01/2007 16:38

BP- £12 'hula' jeans from New Look. Nice jeans with plenty of give in them, bought some yesterday. Makes you feel a little less 'I just gave birth a have a flabby tummy while you wait to fit into pre preg stuff.

Hello! I am also in awe of all you people with toddlers and babies! You must all have more hours in the day than me!
Can anyone advise when is good time to start expressing? Charlie obviously loves bf (since he seems to want to do it 24/7 ) but it would be nice to have a break some time and also to let DP have a chance to feed. I feel sorry for him stuck on nappy duty!
Also, have a hand pump but will it hurt?? Sounds pathetic I know but it hurts like h*ll for a second or two when he latches on!

Elibean · 23/01/2007 20:39

sorry awol again..one handed typing, be brief (am pumping). M back in hospital today with chesty cold, watching to see if its going to be bronchiolitis again...as she 'went off' as they charmingly put it so fast last time, we're on red alert. Am not happy

And to boot, have migraine

Hope to catch up in day or two...xxx

Indith · 23/01/2007 21:08

Sorry to hear that Eli. Hoping for the best.

LowFatMilkshake · 23/01/2007 21:17

Hi Al,

Just a catch up - glad to se we are all having fun

Could not get on for the last few days as DS growthspurt arrived well and truly. Feeding every 2 hours for 72 hours! I was so tired.

DH helped me catch up on sleep while working from 4am himself. Now both DC's and me have a stinking cold. Poor DS he's spluttering and coughing and burping and popping - I feel so sorry for him a he's not in control of his bodily functions at all . Have got olbas oil and nasal drops on the go, but am conisdering perhap a 2.5ml of medised - but he's only 6 weeks today (anyone else adminstered small doses earlier than box recommends?). Not sure what else to do for him apart from keep house cool, him warm and keep atmoshpere humid!

DD and I have both got red noses to boot!

LowFatMilkshake · 23/01/2007 21:18

Oh and after 6 weeks in the same bed, DH has finally given up and moved into the nursery (just for days he's got to work)

babypowder · 23/01/2007 21:37

Thinking of you Eli - hope it all turns ou well.

margo1974 · 23/01/2007 21:53

Gloria, pump gently and try adjusting position if it hurts. feel the same when dd2 latches on, sharp intake of breath each time.

low fat - our babies share the same bday, Did i read elsewhere thst you have an older one of 2+ ?

completely knackered tonight, had 6 week check today and dd2 screamed down surgery. receptionist kept looking at me, presumably to check to see if i was at the end of my tether, she didn't stop for 45 mins

LowFatMilkshake · 23/01/2007 21:55

Hey Margo - yep have a 3yr old DD as well!

I have my 6-wk on Friday

margo1974 · 23/01/2007 22:03

dont you just love 6 week checks....

doc - any probs?

mum - yes she keeps choking and finds it hard to catch her breath and then throws up

doc - oh yes that's quite normal

mum - and she still has that discharge from her eye

doc - tests showed nothing wrong so should clear up soon

mum - and she has sunken toenails and one looks sore and swollen

doc - that should improve with time. How do you feel in yourself.

mum - sore boobs every now and again

doc - ahh - do you need any contraception?

That was worth my hour and 15 min wait

babypowder · 23/01/2007 22:24

Indith, I've left a message for you on your exploding poo thread!

LowFatMilkshake · 23/01/2007 22:31

Margo we have already seen our GP once with DS's first cold, he was only a week old !!

However on friday am going to ask him about Gaviscon to help him feed and keep it down, as I am sure his floppy larynx is causing him grief.

Also am going ask about the first set of jabs at 8 wks as SIL has said both hers were ill after and have never been right since.

Also I need more saline, and am going to ask about half measures of paracetamol to help him cope with his colds, since his larynx makes him more suseptable to them - after all you can give half doses after the jabs.

Re: the gunky eye thing, DS aso has this and I think it's a blocked tear duct as it;s worse after he cries. GP's can prescribed saline for this as well.

As for contraception, I will wait to see the look of horror on his face when I tell him we are using the natural method

satinshoes · 24/01/2007 09:23

Morning all. sounds like we're all doing about the same

My 6 week check yesterday was pretty much the same as the others. My Dr recommended mirena coil. Any opinions?

My DD1 has a cold too, and dd2 has a really stuffy nose sp not sleeping well

eli hope your daughter is better and out of hospital soon.

castlesintheair · 24/01/2007 09:40

Eli, hope Mischa is better soon. Thinking of you

MilkShake, when DD1 was in hospital aged 4 weeks with gastric reflux they were pumping her full of paracetamol. I only found out when she was discharged and asked GP about it. He said they have to put guidelines on medicines and one rule does not suit all. So, what I'm trying to say, is it's probably ok now and then to give Calpol before 2 months as long as they aren't tiny or very premature, especially if it means keeping a temperature down.

Gloria, I used a manual pump with DS and it was an effing nightmare. I have an electric one now (medela I tink?) and it's fab ... well as far as milking yourself goes!

jabberwocky · 24/01/2007 09:51

Eli, hope Mischa is better soon. So sorry she's back in the hospital.

AQ and castles, hope you get the faintness sorted out soon. Very scary I'm sure!

spina - I can't believe the told you to decrease your water consunption Bfing makes me so thirsty. And you have to drink over a gallon a day to be at risk for water toxicity anyway.

Gloria - Morning is a good time to express. I just have problems finding a chance to do it...

Margo and Baileys - ds2 had blocked tear duct too. BM has AB properties so I used that. For persistent cases, massaging the area of the duct can help to open it.

satin - Am considering the mirena too. But it's very expensive here, so way down on the list right now.

Work went well yesterday. I so wish I could continue just doing mornings but they are not on board with that

castlesintheair · 24/01/2007 10:01

Wow Jabber! Back at work, good for you. Pleased it is going well. Quite envious in a way, I'd quite like a break from it all most days.

jabberwocky · 24/01/2007 10:03

I go back Friday for a full day. I'm not quite as psyched about that...the half day was really perfect.

castlesintheair · 24/01/2007 10:28

By break from it all, I mean from my childrens' lives!! Work was not exactly a holiday for me. Not sure I would fancy going back to full days either, the odd morning would be nice.

margo1974 · 24/01/2007 10:40

Are you guys REALLY thinking about contraception?

we didn't have sex until a few weeks after my dd1 stopped bf so it must have been about 6 months after the birth

although stitches were a bit painful for quite a while after giving birth and i think i was scared

had no pressure from dh as far as i can remember

LowFatMilkshake · 24/01/2007 10:40

Morning All,

Eli - let us know how Mischa is doing when you get the chance.

DS stil has a cold, so I am heating vicks and olbas oil all over the house to aid breathing. I dont put it too near him, but it seems to be doing the trick. Poor mite seems constipated at the moment as well

He spent half the night in his moses basket and the other half next to me propped up on pillows. Am thinkning of phoning the GP to ask about the calpol - or perhaps medised as that can aid breathing. Castles, thanks for the tip.

satinshoes · 24/01/2007 10:50

lol. margo. took me about a year after DD1 as had quite a traumatic birth. this time was much easier and i have physically and mentally recovered much quicker.. not sure when contraception will be needed but it wont be as long as last time

Olihan · 24/01/2007 12:58
