Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oli, DD looks exactly like a beetle on her back . And yes, they do learn pretty quickly how to latch on themselves. I remember DD1 worked it out, but can't remember how old she was.

Elibean · 21/01/2007 22:51

Magnolia, good for you - am v impressed you got out, can't imagine bathing more than two! FWIW, my SIL had same problem with my nephew - no way would Joe take a bottle. In the end, she tried him on NUK which has shaped teats (the latex ones, not the silicone - softer, more nipple-like) and he went for it. Worth a try?

Elibean · 21/01/2007 22:55

Oli, thanks - and glad your day was better. Sounds like both our 3yr olds have had a lot to cope with recently...and suppose it will just take time. Read somewhere here on MN that LOs should be expected to regress and behave badly for at least six months after siblings are born - oh joy

Elibean · 21/01/2007 22:57

bp, can you answer a ? I've got burning in the back of my addled brain?

Have a stack of lovely fluffy nappies to put dd2 into when she stops pooing ten times per day (as opposed to disposables, that is) but am wondering how on earth her babygroes etc will fit over them

Do I just buy eight sizes too big, or is there a trick to it?!

jabberwocky · 22/01/2007 08:21

es1 has gotten a little bit better but still plenty of terrible three's here as well

Last night was good. First half of tonight has gone well. Fingers crossed fr th rest.

I go back to work p-t on Tues and we have yet to find a bottle that ds2 takes easily. The Platex drop-in is the best of the bunch so far.

satinshoes · 22/01/2007 08:25

last night was baaaad. so today i am shattered and to top it all dd1 has a trrible cold so is missing pre-school. my only break snatched away

jabberwocky · 22/01/2007 08:32

Oh I'm so sorry! I'm doing the happy dance these days when ds1 goes to pre-school It makes having one seem like it should have been much easier

castlesintheair · 22/01/2007 09:38

Went out on Saturday night to dinner party with all 3 DCs and they all went to sleep beautifully and stayed asleep until we left at 1am Reminds me of how we used to cart DS with us everywhere as a baby and he just slept through any racket. Feel very lucky.

DD2 really settling down now at 8 weeks (on Thursday). It really isn't long to anyone who is still in the first few weeks stage and wondering when it will ever happen.

Had a very hormonal moment at school this morning. My DS looked so lost, I had to fight back the tears

Eli/Oli & anyone else with a 3 year old, my DD1 (3 in Feb) has really settled down, no tantrums really anymore. And she really was a HANDFUL for a while All this stuff about them regressing/being difficult hasn't been the case for us. DS was fine when DD1 was born and never regressed and hopefully DD1 will be the same. HTH

castlesintheair · 22/01/2007 09:40

Oh yes, forgot to say, how could I forget (!), I passed out over the weekend AGAIN due to the awful headaches I still get especially after b-feeding. I am probably going to stop soon. 8 weeks now and they don't seem to be improving at all, if anything they are getting worse. I can't risk collapsing when I am alone with the DCs which is most of the time

satinshoes · 22/01/2007 09:51

jabber - i know exactly what you mean!

my DD1 is 2.10. She's been great, loves her little sis to bits. Just gets a bit more 'needy' with her daddy than she was. Baby coincided with starting preschool & christmas and it was all a bit much. she's better now than she was though.

satinshoes · 22/01/2007 09:51

castles - hope you feel better soon. sounds bit frightening.

accessorizewithbabysick · 22/01/2007 10:18

Goodness, so many lo's down with colds! & mummy's too, I pray i don't get 1 as both ds's have it. Sleeping on side a brilliant idea, I tried it last night & co-sleeping again also as ds2 sleeps fine until 2 and then will not settle. He woke up every 45 mins on saturday night, fed/winded for an hour or so & then started again basically. I'm hoping that's the 6 week spurt gone then...Was v.grumpy & negative yesterday, but thank goodness ds1 had a day off from tantrums & pooey pants. Do I dare admit that I've been throwing all the poeey pants out rather than wash them? DP bought 40 pairs last week from Asda as he thought it was stressful enough dealing with the situation plus having to clean them (although i don't believe I've seen him clean any).
Castles, headaches sound v.strange, are you having dizzy spells again too as mine have just reappeared? Odd that bf should have that effect tho.
Hope all of you have a better day & night!

babypowder · 22/01/2007 10:19

Eli, I find that most babygros fit over nappies. If they fasten between the legs, I usually leave those poppers undone, just for some extra room. TBH, DD2 is quite big, and has been on 0-3 month clothes since birth. At 4 weeks, she still fits them, but seems to be getting too long for them. (At last, a daughter who may get over 5' ).
You may have to move a size up, but you'd have to get them in anyway.
Babies look just gorgeous with little fat cloth nappy bums

castlesintheair · 22/01/2007 11:21

AQ, yes I'm getting dizzy spells too. What is going on? Think I better get myself back on the Spatone. Worrying about it probably doesn't help. But you cannae not ...

Both DDs were put to sleep on their sides. DS suffered flat head so paranoid about it. Always find DD2 rolled onto her back though despite propping her. DD1 used to roll onto her front from 4 weeks.

castlesintheair · 22/01/2007 11:22

AQ, I gave up on potty training with DD1 in summer. I got fed up with clearing up piles of poo! She's now pretty much done it herself.

spina · 22/01/2007 11:46

hi all. i've not been posting due to lack of third hand(ds2 in one and blooming breast pump in other)
ds2 is happily putting wt on (even though wasn't birth wt last tues-when i got rid of mw) well he WAS PUTTING wt on. he's got a stinky cold and his feeding is totally up the spout.

i've been getting a bit dizzy too. maybe not enough water or choosing to grab sleep instead of breakie.

oh i'm off again. just been vomitted upon, exorcist style. bless his little cotton socks!!!!

accessorizewithbabysick · 22/01/2007 11:57

welcome back one-handed spina glad you held out on weight gain, mother is always right.... i type with breast pump in hand too...must persuade dp i need electric but he's not convinced i'll stick to bf i think.
snap on the spatone, castles! had the last one this morning, must go & get more. had about 6 really bad spells yesterday, worry whilst holding elliot. phaps we're not drinking enough, could it be simple as that?? bfing makes one v.v.thirsty! and hungry for mars bars (says aq stuffing her face with one)
must go and cook something as ds2 enters hour 3 of nap!

accessorizewithbabysick · 22/01/2007 12:02

wld love to give up on potty training castles, but ds refuses to wear a nappy any more (tho i did try on friday). we had a poo-free day yesterday, first in weeks & i've ordered bob builder sticker chart for him!

spina · 22/01/2007 12:41

mum and baby hosed down and back on boob.

i really need to practise this one handed typing. really slow and keep clicking out of window.

not sure i can keep up with thread either. mummy just thinking about hot tea, food or logging on to laptop seem to wake my darling lo up.

physio at hospital spoke to me about water consumption and told me not to drink too much. told me to try to reduce how much i drank when i happily told her i was drinking well as i always have done(pre, during, post preg.) i asked why i shouildn't drink a lot and she muttered something about an actor who died from drinking too much. i only drink a couple of litres a day!

my big baby is being a star at moment. it's like he's aged about a year over night. i did it by the book when he came to visit us in hospital. ds2 in cot.me greeting ds1 at door for cuddle.lots of fussing over ds1.

ds1 pushed me out of way, searching room for his brother, found him and has been totally besotted ever since.he even helped his little brother open his present first before he opened his own. although he does like jumping on the bed as i change ds2's nappy and dives, landing cms fron ds2's head.he's also had quite a few wees in pants over the last few days, but i actusally think it's unrelated to vbaby.

my dh kindly pointed out that's how he was with his brother and now they wind one anotherv up by merely existing.im still holding out for sibling relationships like i have
ds1 has also informed me he wants me to have four children in total. another brother and a sister. may need to work on daddy on that one.

annaspanner · 22/01/2007 20:09

I take my hat off to you all. How do you do it? Manage with a newborn AND other children too. It takes me so long to organise things..the house, the washing, sterilising, getting a shower....even brushing my teeth. And I promised to be back at work part time next month...might have to rethink that. (and my plan to have a second LO one day )

Thank you everyone who gave me advice re. fussy eating and Infacol. I've been trying a different position(baby higher than boob) in case it was fast flow problem (I have been producing a lot more in the last week or so) and it seems to have worked. My little one is feeding for longer, with bigger gaps between feeds(not ten mins feed then wanting to eat again after an hour)and being less and less violent(my poor nipples!). Although saying all this will be tempting fate I'm sure. I'm going to stay with the Infacol for now. She's not sure if she likes it but she doesnt dislike it and there arent any 3hour screaming sessions in the evenings now.

Indith · 22/01/2007 20:24

OK if I take my breast pads out I litarally start shooting milk across the room but will he feed? course not.

Am in shock after HV today, spent ages telling me how he would have lost weight since birth etc etc, the littl thing has gone from 6lb15oz to 7lb11oz in his first 11 days! Must be some good stuff in my boobs!

PMSL- so that iswhy h was grizzling! Just emitted biggest burp in history, expression of shock andrelief on his face pricless.

babypowder · 23/01/2007 12:29

Paranoid mum, here. LO is now nearly 5 weeks old, and we haven't had a smile out of her yet. Anyone else in the same boat?

And, I still can't get back into my pre-preg jeans. I didn't gain that much weight, did I? I'm still half a stone over my pre-preg weight. Please tell me it will shift quickly

satinshoes · 23/01/2007 12:39

babypowder. dd is 6 weeks old and we've only had a couple of half-smiles. dd1 was 6.5 weeks. dont worry.

i am down to pre-pg weight this time but with dd1 i failed to lose the final half stone even after 2 years

jabberwocky · 23/01/2007 13:12

First day back at work today. I'm only going in for a half day today then back on Friday for a full day. Ds2 still not taking bottle that well. Dh is keeping him today - no work from home for him! Say a little prayer that he feeds well or I'll have one mad hubby when I get back

Oh, and does anyone else's lo sometimes go really straight and rigid? I know ds1 did this sometimes but can't remember when it started. Ds2 seems to be doing it sooner and it's really annoying when trying to get him in position to nurse.

babypowder · 23/01/2007 13:15

Jabber, I am in awe. I try to do a little work at home everyday, but no way could I go in and be a grown up for a whole day.
