Oh, and castles great to hear you sounding so positive! I'm feeling the same way, really pleased that pnd not rearing ugly head at this stage.

satinshoes · 17/01/2007 08:43

OMG. DD slept from 12.15am until 5.30am. woohoo....it was in her car seat as we were desperate but longest night sleep yet

elibean - sorry gp not helpful.

castlesintheair · 17/01/2007 10:09

Eli, sorry to hear that about the colic? reflux? and unhelpful GP. Why are they being so adamant about not giving ranitidine? Do they want to wait until after 3 months?? I didn't see much improvement on just gaviscon (except stopped DD2 being sick), it's ranitadine that really works for us. She is a bit colicky in the evening but pretty much fine rest of the time. Also sleeping really well at night now. I halved the amount of gaviscon to prevent her getting constipated. Seems to be working ok. No other tips I'm afraid.
What sort of therapist were you? Sound's interesting. I was approached to be a CRUSE counsellor. I keep going back to that area (in my thinking) but don't know if I can be arsed with all the studying at my time of life

AQ, pleased to hear you are feeling happy too this time round

Hello Lubella! Hope everything is well.

HayleyWayley · 17/01/2007 10:30

satinshoes, Charlie sleeps in his car seat at night too coz he wont go in his moses basket! he cries the house down!

Calmriver · 17/01/2007 12:47

accessorizewithbabysick · 17/01/2007 13:16

What's pink eye Calm?
Castles, my mum is a cruse counsellor, seems to find it really rewarding.
I never found that ds2 would sleep in a moses basket, I think a lot of babies hate them for whatever reason so I stuck him in his cot where he sleeps like an angel!

castlesintheair · 17/01/2007 13:26

Thanks AQ, I need to check CRUSE out again I think.
I put DD2 in her moses basket in her big cot 3 nights ago & now she sleeps like a baby
Was going to ask, Calmriver, what's red eye?
Think DD2 may have chicken pox. Bless her. So much for bf'ing antibodies meaning she doesn't get it!!

accessorizewithbabysick · 17/01/2007 13:31

I love the expression sleeps like a baby as most babies are rubbish at sleeping! I can't seem to get the wind thing sorted. I try it for a few minutes, stick him in his cot & then an hour later he's screaming his head off so I've been up essentially since 4.15am. DS1 had temper tantrum at midnight over god knows what so that didn't help. DP losing his temper so I had to get out of bed & deal with it, we've made a pact to NOT lose our tempers with ds1 anymore as we were getting too snappy with him. But sometimes, his very toddlerness drives me completely crazy - repeating same thing 6 times, taking 20 minutes to walk up the stairs, taking his clothes off to play in the bed JUST as I've managed to dress him. Must try harder to not be annoyed!
Is that all 3 of yours down with chicken pox now, castles?

castlesintheair · 17/01/2007 13:43

AQ, it's really hard not to get annoyed by them I think. I get round it by just walking off or ignoring it if DD1 is not cooperating or having a tantrum (fewer in number these days & shorter in length TG now she's nearly 3). Otherwise I can feel myself getting riled. How old is your DS1? DS is nearly 5 and has been a dream since he turned 4. With the hindsight of 2 more actually, he's been a dream since birth.
DD1 got one spot but all the symptoms and apparently that means she's had chicken pox too. So yes, I guess that's all 3 now. I'm so relieved as she's a real picker.
Re. getting wind up - I lie DD2 on her front on my lap and massage her back & left side (stomach area I think) and that seems to work.

annaspanner · 17/01/2007 15:17

Castles-dont forget you can teach adults too. I teach children, teens and adults and much prefer the adults. I have always thought that if I came back to the UK, I would teach either adult literacy or English as a second language(ie. to immigrants). I know some people who teach English to immigrants in London and they really enjoy it. I'm sure the pay is rubbish though.

satinshoes · 17/01/2007 15:41

hi everyone,

HV came today and weighed DD. She's doing very well and doesnt need to be seen again unless i feel like taking her to be weighed.

AQ - i find the best way to wind is sitting on my knee with chin in my left hand and patting back on right. although yesterday dd nearly fell off bed and as i grabbed her the biggest burp came out

lots of sleep today so need to prepare for wakeful night

good day to all

accessorizewithbabysick · 17/01/2007 19:34

Even if I wind for 15 minutes, he'll still cry and sick all over me 45 minutes later if I lay him down. & then the feeding starts again. Grrr. 6 week growth spurt just started, arrrgggh!

LowFatMilkshake · 17/01/2007 20:25

Hello Ladies,

I am back - I just could'nt stay away. I missed you all too much - especially the reassurance that what I am going through with DS is not unusual. I have'nt read all the posts but AQ I can sympathise with you.

DS has just woke up for a feed after 2.5 hours and before DH got the bottle near his mouth he yicked up everywhere bleugh! But is still chugging it back happily like nothing happened

Elibean · 17/01/2007 22:46

Welcome back, Milkshake

Castles, my sister also counselled for CRUSE for a while and found it rewarding. As for taking on studies at our time of life (ho hum, your time of life, mine is a tad later ) I love the idea...was all signed up for a Masters when dd1 shocked us all by being a viable pregnancy. Student life...keeps one young

I rang the HV today and waved the depression word at her - last night was a bit much, and I think it came on top of all the disruption and upset of M's hospitalization. I have a lovely HV, and a good one - she's coming over tomorrow to weight dd, talk about the larynx thingy and reflux/colic and generally let me offload. And she didnt' make me feel neurotic, OTT, or disproportionately upset, either!

Of course, M has now spent a relatively ok evening and is fast asleep without a single vomit or screaming marathon...

Elibean · 17/01/2007 22:47

Re winding, I find anything other than upright on my shoulder is more likely to end in puke. But thats purely dd2.

jabberwocky · 18/01/2007 01:37

alm, so are you using ebm for the eye infection? Good thing to start with.

AQ, I can sooo sympathize with the toddler thing. Ds1 has been driving me bats and I feel guilty about being snappy too. All the why questiions and repeating same question over and over. It does my head in sometimes.

Good to see you back Baileys!

Eli, it's good that you called your HV. I waited far too long w/ds1.

DS2 has been reallly off whatever bit of schedule he had for the last 2 days I had gotten used to his regular am and pm naps. Last night was better than the one before. Fingers crossed for tonight...

LowFatMilkshake · 18/01/2007 08:43

Eli, sorry to hear things are getting a bit on top of you.

I too have a good HV. She's discharged me from home visits now. But before she did I had to do a questionnaire about how I feel. I think it checks for possible depression etc. You're supposed to score 10, but I just got 7, which we discussed and she did'nt feel was a problem.

Has anyone else done one of these??

Indith · 18/01/2007 11:17

He slept in his crib ALL night!!!!!!!!!

Ok so he fed every hour and a half and I'm sure we will pay for it tonight but bless him a week old and he slept in his crib!

Lots of sick here too. Brings up a little bit most feeds but at least twice a day I get the whole lot, often while in transit from breast to muslin in shoulder...

lucy5 · 18/01/2007 12:26

My dd hated her Moses basket so we put her in her pram. We didn't even bother with ds, he has slept in his pram from the start [carry cot stylee].

castlesintheair · 18/01/2007 13:24

Sorry you are feeling down Eli. I sympathise 'cos I found it all too much with DD1 but unlike you I let it fester. Sometimes it helps to just talk about it.

I hold my LO upright for about 30 mins after feeding which seems to stop the pewking. That and gaviscon & ranitidine ...

Both DDs have chicken pox and spots now. Oh joy!

Had my 6 week check-up today now that DD2 is 7 weeks Not sure what the point of it all is. Next stop is those effing immunisations!

HayleyWayley · 18/01/2007 14:54

lowfatmilkshake...i scored 7 too and hv wasnt concerned!!!!

satinshoes · 18/01/2007 15:03

Lowfatmilkshake. I score 4 which my HV said was great and she's 'signed me off' With DD1 i scored about 18 (i think - poor memory) and I had PND.

satinshoes · 18/01/2007 15:03

DD slept for another long stretch last night. In the car seat agin. Seems to make quite a difference

LowFatMilkshake · 18/01/2007 15:31

Satinshoes, my DS hates his car seat, he hates being crunched up! He likes to be flat. So I am now wondering whether to try and get a proper pram - but the expense is a problem - especially as we have have now lost 4 fence panels in these winds.

For short journeys like taking DD to pre-school he goes in the sling, but I am having to avoid longer trips for now. Plus his larynx makes him sound realy distressed

Yesterday DS slept from 4pm until 7am this morning, waking only for 90 minutes around 10pm and all feeds were done in his sleep once I heard him snuffling about for them. He's been awak all day today until 3pm, but I want to avoid him sleeping through again so will be letting him wake for a feed and if that doesnt work will also be giving the little monkey a bath

annaspanner · 18/01/2007 16:41

Hi, my DD has suddenly become a very fussy eater. She used to feed for 20minutes on one side and 5-10 on the other but now gets hungry much more frequently (growth spurt?) but loses interest after 10 minutes on the first side...if I do manage to get her started again she ends up pulling away wildly and grabbing on again, almost fighting with my boob! I've tried burping her more often but that doesnt seem to work. Ive looked at info online but am confused about whether it's due to a slow or fast let down or just a change in feeding habits-theres just too much conflicting info sometimes. Has anyone else experienced this change?
Also, I've started using Infacol(not at the same time as the feeding changed), which has really helped. There is less screaming in the evening now, and she's much calmer at bedtime....but how long should I use it for? Does anyone else use it?
Thanks
