Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
indiemummy · 11/12/2006 21:25

it's so so nice to hear other people going through exactly the same things! sore nipples here too and also juggling first born and newborn... jabberwocky i am also having toe-curling OUCH moment when baby latches on, then it's bearable after that. going to try the gel soothers you suggested. Sometimes it's so bad I cry out involuntarily - mother-in-law coming to stay (grr) on wed and i am worried i'll do it in front of her! How embarrassing. CS scar agony when I cough or laugh. Terrified as strong painkillers run out tomorrow and I'll just have the paracetamol from the hospital.

ds is a very good big brother so far and keeps asking to have his baby sister on his lap, and making suggestions - not always practical - like 'shall we put my baby sister on the arm of the sofa mummy?' and looking confused when i explain that she might roll off. also he's not very good at keeping quiet when she's asleep. anyway now i've found you here i will come back as often as i can and see how you're all getting on! love IMxxx

indiemummy · 11/12/2006 21:29

p.s. jabber if it's any consolation my ds had two little 'accidents' just before I went into hospital - he's been dry for about 8 months - just wet i mean - but that's it. no more accidents since. very strange, he just sat there and wet himself. but if it's just those two occasions I can handle it... was worried it would become a pattern but thankfully not (fingers crossed!!!) so maybe your ds's accident was just a one-off. let us know x

indiemummy · 11/12/2006 21:42

me again, sorry, ok there should now be a picture of Ivy here x

jabberwocky · 12/12/2006 07:03

She is beautiful!

I've been doing the OUCH! thing out loud as well I remember it with ds1 too. It didn't last too long on the right side though. I think his latch is just not good on the left causing all of these problems. It's currently 1:00 am and I'm waiting for ds2 to settle down before turning off computer. I've been up an hour and a half with him now. We've nursed 2 or 3 times on my "good" side and I've pumped the other side.

Just want to go back to sleep!!!!

jabberwocky · 12/12/2006 07:06

Oh, and it turns out that ds1 didn't actually have a poo accident the other day, he just thought he did So we're still doing relatively well on that front and no tantrum so far tonight...

satinshoes · 12/12/2006 10:27

Hi Guys,

Quick post to say Hi. Erin is doing well. Only 2.5 days old !!!

She's sleeping lots . and getting the hang of feeding although she is quite sicky as has lots of mucous on her chest. Hoping that will tail off soon as its generating lots of washing! DD1 was never really sick so a bit of a shock. She can breastfeed properly when she wants but is a bit lazy I think and goes ages without a feed and then stocks up. Not that i mind

DD is being very good and has only been a teeny bit more clingy with Dad so we are pleased.

Hope you're all ok.

satinshoes · 12/12/2006 10:28

Btw, I recommend kamillosan cream for sore nips.

magnolia1 · 12/12/2006 10:54

Indiemummy, Ivy is stunning and so girly looking

I shouldn't have said anything about nipples getting better. Ds1 feeding so much they are getting slightly sore again

Piccie of Ben on member profiles will do a link later xxx

magnolia1 · 12/12/2006 10:57

ok piccie HERE

castlesintheair · 12/12/2006 13:52

Hello post-natal December mummies!

I haven't had much time to read but I really hope you are all doing well.

I'm absolutely knackered. I had 2 days on non-stop crying last week as I was so exhausted and me 'mones were playing up. Then MIL came to stay and was a massive help sending me off to bed. She's also got that (annoying) magic touch with babies. Last night she went and Athina screamed from 7.30pm to 1.30am. We decided she must have gastric reflux (DD1 had it) but my Doula told me today she just thinks it's trapped wind in her bowel. Anyway, any tips would be extremely welcome by this frazzled old woman.

She also had a slight tongue-tie which was "clipped" last week. It meant that she wasn't very good at staying on the breast once latched. So I started expressing and giving her milk that way. Now I have started I don't want to go back partly because I can anally monitor how much she is having. DH read yesterday that in a study in Oz most women who have an epidural give up breast feeding early ... I wonder if this is why I am having problems

DS is still a bit "put out". Wants to have his own way and wakes up every night and comes into our bed. DD1 is pretty great.

Other than that, it's all going well I have bad days and then not so bad days but I know it will get better. Can't believe it's Xmas soon. So pleased I got most of my shopping done before as I am pretty much house-bound now. Is anyone else like this and is it also driving you mad?!

jabberwocky · 12/12/2006 14:28

Hey, castles, I'n housebound too. The dr. doesn't want ds2 to have much contact with he outside world until he's 7 lbs, so here we sit. My main deal is getting through this issue on my right brast I exclusively expressed last time but wound up not liking it much after a while so am trying to persevere...

Have you tried laying her on her back and gently pushing her knees up to her belly after a feed? That used to produce wind for ds1. Also consider if she's gassy from something in your diet. With ds1 it was milk and ice cream - but I could still eat cheese and yogurt.

hth

magnolia1 · 12/12/2006 17:45

Blimey Jabber, ds1 is still only 6lb and we have been encouraged to take hime out in the sunshine as much as possible for his jaundiced. dd4 was only 4lb 9oz and only 4lb 14oz when she came home but I never heard of keeping them in Isn't it funny how different docs/mw and hv's are?
But on the other side It's probably better to stay home as much as possible in the first few weeks especially with getting feeding sorted.
I just can't do it though and am out on a daily basis now even though it's only to mine or dh's mums.
Going shopping for new boots next monday though, wonder how many times I will need to stop for coffe so I can feed ds1
Castles, I had an epidural with dd4 and spinal with ds1 and have to admit I did struggle with dd4 for a few weeks. I was lucky that my health visitor was great xxx

jabberwocky · 12/12/2006 19:29

I had epi's with both b/c of sections. I think if my right nipple wasn't so flat we would be acing it by now.

Someone posted that article and it said it was probably the fentanyl that was the culprit. Not all anesthesiologists use fentanyl so I guess it can be rather hit or miss.

castlesintheair · 12/12/2006 20:45

Must read the article Jabber! Interesting isn't it? I'm really struggling and wonder how long I can go on with the b/f. We think it might be part of the depression thing. I'm seeing h/v tomorrow.

I'm like you Magnolia, I NEED to get out but I pretty much can't.

Hope you all sleep well. Sleep! Ha, what's that!!

AQ, have you had your baby? How are you getting on? Sorry, I still only skim but hope to catch up properly when the mist in my head has cleared

magnolia1 · 12/12/2006 20:56

Does the mist ever clear

jabberwocky · 12/12/2006 22:22

Aww, sorry about the depression, castles. I had it really bad last time. Sleep deprivation does make it worse, I'm convinced of that. ds2 is a much calmer baby than ds1 which has been nice. I think dh was even more worried than I was about a second bout of PND. If they recommend AD's get on them right away. It helped me tremendously. Don't try to power through on your own if this is really and truly PND.

Elibean · 12/12/2006 22:44

omg, here you all are! Thanks for nudging me Castles, needed that - have sooo little energy/time/motivation to do anything other than the basics right now.

But seeing you all here is like coming home

DH is nagging me, its nearly 11pm and madam will be waking up for her next feed soon - am not even ready for bed: now that I've found you all, will be back asap to read, catch up, and reconnect.

Meantime, hugs all round and will think of you when I wake up, and wake up, and wake up...

Elibean · 12/12/2006 22:49

ps Castles, couldn't resist quick skim - dh read same article. I had a b'feeding counsellor come and trouble shoot for us on Monday - was that only yesterday?!? - helped a lot as I was sliding into expressing more and more and avoiding feeding as sooo painful. Positioning and treatment for thrush helping quite a bit today - but suspect the support helped as much as anything else. Whatever you do, don't give yourself a hard time, y'hear?! xxx

pps the babes are sooooo sweet...coudlnt' resist quick peek at photos either, all of them. Could someone please tell me how you find out how to post one? Not expecting anyone to have time to tell me thmeselves, just...is there a place I can go which will explain in one syllable words, maybe?

jabberwocky · 13/12/2006 03:43

Ohhh, me too! The one time I tried the picture was too big, pixel-wise and I didn't know how to reduce it.

spinasnowflake · 13/12/2006 10:55

Hi.just popping over to say Hi! Still no licence to join PN(ie Baby Spin still in his little coccoon!)

Having an emotional last few weeks of pregnancy so reading your posts has reminded me what it's like "on the other side".

Looking forward to joining you for real (in three(?) weeks time!)

All the pictures are gorgeous. I have no clue how to do links so I'll have to describe my little boy when he pops out.

Calmriver · 13/12/2006 12:01

ME TOO!!! I NEED to get out, but still too sore!

Went out yesterday(doc) how exciting!

When I do too much I start bleeding again(TMI-sorry)...actually..since when do we care about to much information!!!???????

OP posts:
Calmriver · 13/12/2006 12:04

My little ones feeds have got shorter...She is becoming more efficient obviously,as the weight is still going on. Trying to keep her awake today...any ideas on how to change their day/night clock around?? She is asleep during the day and up at night!

OP posts:
magnolia1 · 13/12/2006 13:40

No Idea CR but if you figure it out tell me!! Ds1 is very nocturnal too

Elibean · 13/12/2006 13:43

Mine too - can do 5 hour stretches in problem during the day, but more like 3 at night. I suppose we could try waking them for 3-hourly feeds during the day in the hope it'll stock them up for night time?!
That said, suspect time is of the essence: newborns often seem to have it back to front, as though they were still on the inside...and mine was 2 weeks early, so even more so. Did notice today she's got her eyes open much more, is more interested in looking at the light, so plonked her on the playgym mat after a feed and she stayed awake staring and waving her hands around for a good fifteen minutes - will do it again this afternoon, and maybe tonight she'll sleep like a log for eight hours

Last night was the worst night since hospital: dd1 calling for me three times (very unusual) to help her get back to sleep, and dd2 writhing with colic after each feed....ate the teeny bit of cabbage dh put on my plate last night, probably that poor thing...

Elibean · 13/12/2006 13:45

But omg, NOTHING can be as bad as that non stop pregnancy itch at night - I'll take sore nipples and crying babies anytime. Till the memory fades, anyway.
