welcome mumtoapiglet!!! Feel free to join in the conversation! We're a mad bunch here.

Booby well done, re: your job!!!! YAY!! Congrats on CJ's tooth as well. So its your birthday soon? What date?

I posted a thread about this in sleep called something like 'please give me courage' - I need to try to get Alex sleeping in his cot for his day time naps. As it is he sleeps in his pram and I rock him. Where do you all put your babies to sleep during the day? Are they all as high maintenance as Alex? Got any tips for me?

Santamander · 04/12/2006 09:44

Hi all, teething is setting in so I see I'm not sure if Joseph if getting his bottom 2 teeth, I can see a greyish line just under his gums. I'm really proud of myself for getting to 15 weeks breastfeeding exclusively . With George I had been mixed feeding up to 15 weeks then went to formula full time so you can see why I'm so chuffed this time with Joe He's on the 91st centile 15lb 12oz when I had him weighed last week, I'll try to keep feeding for as ,long as I can and may start weaning at 6 mths.
Hope everyone is doing ok, can't believe how time flys and how quick our little ones grow!

stumpydog · 04/12/2006 10:24

hello everyone, i'm very, very tired today as 2yrold dd, then ds have had strange infection.it started with mild conjunctivitis caught from her nursery, i think, then a fever, sleeplessness and headache. they're both recovering now and i haven't slept for 2 nights . eeny -ds sleeps in an open sided cot pushed up against my bed,day and night, he's a big baby so needs the roominess of a cot and if he wakes at night i only have to reach over to get him. jingleboobs - my ds is teething but no sign of anything breaking through yet.my eldest dd had a top tooth come through first.i'd always read that it was supposed to be a bottom tooth first!

PinkTinsel · 04/12/2006 10:43

eeny, caleb sleeps in my arms during the day or on his playmat or on the couch, it's too awkward to have to run upstairs to get him and either leave dd downstairs or carry both of them down the stairs at the same time so it's easier that way he's still in his crib at night as he wasn't keen on the cot last time we tried and i can't be bothered trying again until after joes parenets hav done their xmas visit as when they stay they're in dd's room and the cot in our room has to be put down to the lower leval for her. no point getting him used to it til after that!

caleb was a right monkey last nigt, he dozed off as usual while dd was having her teeth brushed and all seemed fine, then 2 mins after she went to bed he woke up full of beans and was up til 11 oçlock he wasn'tcrying, just wide awake and wanting to be up and playing!

congratulations on cj's tooth booby was she good while she was teething? i'm glad the job went well too

i love your name mumtoapiglet, thats what we used to call dd when she was a baby too as she ate constantly welcome to mumsnet, glad to have you in our thread

i'm so sorry your ids are both sick stumpy, you must be shattered poor thing.

jingleboobs · 04/12/2006 12:27

hoppyrobin · 04/12/2006 14:00

Hello Everyone!

Welcome MumtoaPiglet - my dd's birthday is the 18th. Always nice to see new faces and compare notes!

eeny - my dd isn't really high maintenance, but she won't nap in her moses basket (not got the cot down from the loft yet - no room actually )

She usually wakes around 7am, she falls asleep in her pushchair (travel system) on the walk back from school at 9am, and I unclick her carseat and bring her indoors. She'll usually sleep to 11am, then be awake until 1pm, when I'll usually put her in her sling, where she sleeps before waking at around 2:30pm. I pick up ds from school at 3:20pm, but he usually plays there until 4:00 while I chat to the other mums who are picking up their older children who finish later, giving dd the opportunity to fall asleep in her pushchair. For her evening cat-nap, she's in the sling again.

At the moment, this works fine as she's a tiny tiddler and easy to keep in the sling, so I don't tend to put her down, but sometimes, I can ease her off onto the sofa (still asleep in the sling) if I need to.

I only found ds easy to put down for a nap in his cot once he got to around 6 months. I know this is no help, but I just thought I'd share so you wouldn't feel yours was the only LO who wasn't keen on the cot during the day.

Booby - wow, that's an early tooth! (and all you others with teething LO's) And don't worry about being 25 - when I got to 30 I decided to stay there (it can be done for a good number of years), so I celebrate my 30th every year! And congratulations on your job - what is it you do?

Stumpy - I really sympathise with you about having a couple of sick kids at home - it's just so draining.

I hope this works - it's my little angel at 12 weeks.

bellawilliams · 04/12/2006 14:10

Hello, another newbie here. mum to three: DD1 is 4, ds is 20 months and dd2 is 3.5 months. Finding it very very hectic juggling them all, especially while baby still waking at night. I havent started on formula yet - considering it for 7pm feed. Has anyone done this and seen a difference?

eenysugarplumfairy · 04/12/2006 14:23

hi all! I am havign a crap day. Alex is driving me round the bend, my keyboard is broken so I can barely type and just GGGRRRRRR

ok

breathe

welcome bellawilliams!! welcome to the madhouse.

Thanks hoppy for sharing it is good to know my baby isnt the only one who can be awkward!!

I Am so of you still breast feedin I would LOVE to feed Alex but he just will not take it. I feel so inadequate.

burstingwithfestivitybug · 04/12/2006 14:31

Don't feel inadequate Eeny, easier said than done. I felt the same with George when I went on to formula with him. Thats why I'm just so pleased I'm doing so well with Joe this time round.
Bella, I only have 2 kids almost 22mths and 15 weeks, thats hard enough, but to have a 4 yr old too! Well done for surviving so far

MumToAPiglet · 04/12/2006 19:33

Thanks for all your warm welcomes.

I am already comforted to see that I am clearly not alone in being unable to get Anna to nap in her cot. She will only sleep in the day if I bounce her in her seat, take her out in the pram or feed her to sleep on my lap.

Until tonight I would have said she is very good at going down in her cot at night and getting herself to sleep. However tonight I had to walk her back and forth and back and forth and she cried everytime I put her down Last night she woke 4 times and DH is away and I am a bit under the weather with something wrong with my stomach. So its not been a great 24 hours but it is good to share.

olivhohoho · 04/12/2006 20:03

eeny - dd is still (just)in her moses basket in our room at night -going into her cot in her room when we come back home in a couple of weeks. during the day, she sleeps wherever - on her playmat, the floor, bouncy chair, car seat etc. she seems happiest just on a blanket on the floor.

stumpy - hope things get better for you.

welcome mumtoapiglet and bella

bella - i am thinking of starting an evening formula too but maybe the 10 o'clock as she normally has an ebm bottle then so might not notice! let me know how it goes for you if you start.

booby - congrats

have been out visiting two friend today - one with a six week old and the other with a nine day old - they made dd seem so grown up! doesnt time fly?

paed appt tomorrow to see about reflux - dd will be weighed so fingers crossed for some decent weight gain!

eenysugarplumfairy · 04/12/2006 20:06

Mumtoapiglet its good to hear we arent the only ones having a nightmare with getting the babies to sleep!!! You're a poor thing at the moment with being unwell and your DH away.

bursting, thank you. I know I shouldnt feel bad but I do. I dont understand what went wrong. So much went wrong from the birth onwards I just feel very cheated out of what I wanted to happen. I need to come to terms with it.

I am actually happy british gas are coming to my house tomorrow as it means my friend will come over to keep me company (she owns the house I live in) and I will not be alone in the morning, plus I have baby clinic on the afternoon so it should be a pretty full day!

ronniemummy · 04/12/2006 20:30

Sleeping through-is it a myth????????????

Katie goes down every night without a problem around half six-quarter to seven, we get her up at ten for a feed and then don't feed her again until 8.45am. However, she is STILL not sleeping through. For the last week ( bearing in mind we only stopped her 4am feed about 3-4 weeks ago) she has been waking up at 3am and being a bit grizzly- she is not hungry ( she takes 5 7oz bottles in a day) as it is a different type of cry- a tired cry, so I find myself going to put the dummy back in her mouth- this grizzliness can go on until about 5am when she seems to fall asleep again. I get her up about8.15-30am even though she wakes before then. I do try to leave her and settle herself and NEVER take her out of the cot BUT shouldn't she be able to sleep through the night at 13weeks?????????

Suggestions? HElp!

lunavix · 05/12/2006 08:37

awww hoppy she's lovely.

re: formula, I wanted dd to have organic but she seemed to like sma gold bettr (less wind) ds had cow and gate at the same age. But dd hasn't had formula since about a month and a half ago so it might change.

I feel so proud of myself for getting to the 3 month breast feeding milestone. Like you eeny, I felt cheated out of bfing ds, and totally inadequate. But remember we arent it was out of your control hun.

dd still being good at night, dh is convinced she needs weaning but I've told him to f off! I'm buying her a pram, probably nuts I know as she's already probably 12 - 13lb but I hate our phil and teds now.

MrsChristmasboo · 05/12/2006 10:27

Oh gosh, have i been away this long???! Can someone start a new thread yet? So at least i'll have a chance to keep up with all the news....

And welcome to all the newbies {fgrin}

Ohhh and i'm liking the new emoticons....

Eeny, am emailing you a pic of Austin at some point, hope its still ok to do so....

stumpydogsbaubles · 05/12/2006 10:42

we're all much better here. as usual i imagined the kids had a scary illness, but i think it was just a nasty cold with a sticky eye prob. hoppy - your dd looks like a very happy baby. my ds is a very happy little chap too. i haven't had him weighed for a while but he was 9lb4oz at birth. we thought he'd be bigger cos my 2yr old dd was 10lb4oz . ronnie - my baby ds usually sleeps better at night than my 2yr old dd. i'm not v good at routine and tend to go with the flow. my ds likes to stay up usually til about 10ish which suits us cos he can spend time with my dh. then he settles well in his cot and mostly just wakes once for a bf about 5ish, and i feed him in bed. as for my dd she sleeps in her own room but we have a sofa she can come and sleep on in our room if she feels scared or lonely.i've got 3 older children too and i have found the boys slept more and the girls wanted more closeness, nearly all the time! but that might just be my own experience

NbgSparklyYellowFeathers · 05/12/2006 10:50

Hi everyone.
Welcome to the new recruits

Do you want to hear about my nightmare evening and morning? You'll love it!
Last night I heard a really weird noise in our dining room. When I moved closer to it, a big nose and teeth looked at me. It was a Rat.
Sooo after a milion phone calls we managed to get a guy out who investigated and the little sod not only has set up home behind a false wall with a tescos carrier bag but shes up the bloody duff!
So we've whacked a load of poison in and let it die.
About 1ish this morning I heard another funny noise, thought it was the central heating and went back to sleep. Ellis woke at 5:30 for a feed so I came down to get a bottle and the kitchen had flooded. The noise was coming from the dishwasher!
After much arsing about, dh came home, we pulled the dishwasher out and the Rat has chewed through the plaster board and chewed through the water pipes. Hence the flooding.
Then to top it all off the dog started vomiting blood so he had to be rushed to the vets and given a dose of vitamin k and anti biotics.

What a time!!!

MrsChristmasboo · 05/12/2006 13:06

OMG! Yellow! Poor you..... Little baskets, make sure you put tons of poison down. And if it makes you feel better i've had squirrels in my last two houses, they are also buggers...

Big hugs and the day can only (hopefully!) get better....

eenysugarplumfairy · 05/12/2006 15:28

dreaminofawhitexmas · 05/12/2006 19:59

hiya all sorry ive not been on as much lately welcome to all you new mums Hope everyone is well. I had a great 40th over the weekend and my mum got the all clear from the tests for cancer she had. she still has to see the consultant later this month as she has fibrosis of the lung whatever that is but at least its not cancer. My uncle is still hanging on too poor thing although not sure for how much longer. Sophie- Janes christening is on Sunday and Im hoping to get the tree up before then. Hows everyones xmas shopping going? Ive hardly even begun thank goodness for the internet thats all I can say

PinkTinsel · 05/12/2006 20:52

i made my baby bleed i was cutting calebs nails and the inevitable happened and i snipped the end of his finger, which i'm used to happening with dd but dear god...... it bled for about half an hour and caleb, me and dp were all covered in blood and the poor little man was wailing something awful. he's got a bandage on now but i'm still in bits..... not least coz i had to finish cutting his nails i've never felt so horrible in my life!

on the plus side the landlord came round for his annual inspection and was remarkebly unconcerned about the 2 grand we owe him, thank god coz the most he was getting was 650 til next week lol and he's learned his lesson from last years fiasco of ringing me the week before xmas claiming i owed him about double what i actually did and brought a printed statement for me to 'review and ring him to confirm the numbers', looks like some men are capable of learning from their mistakes lol.
