I still saw Take That (and did Gary afterwards in his blacked out Range Rover)

Ahem!!!

So ladies
Well Ratty Ratwoman was still with us last night (DIE RAT DIE) but we heard it eating the poison last night so hopefully its carked it.
We've had a right bloody palava with the dishwasher though. We bought it from Comet and took out and paid for an extra insurance for 5 more years. The Rat has chewed right through the water hose and the flex. Its a shame it didn't fry itself to death but hey ho.
Anyway dh called Comet to see if we could get it fixed. Basically it isnt covered because its classed as external something or other so dh said he would fix it himself by buying a new hose and sorting the flex. They then said that would void the insurance. So we're in a no win situation. However we have told them we're going to cash the policy in and at least that will cover the cost of the Rat man coming out the other night.
Our next problem is whether the Rat has gone into the cavity wall to die. If it has it will meanripping down a full wall which is where out sink, dishwasher, washer and plumbing is. So that will not be a cheap job.
Last night we had to block off the gap at the sides of the dishwasher so that it didnt come into the house. My kitchen looks like fort knox and dh has very carefully placed a golf club on top so that if the Rat comes out we can push the club into it. Bless, he got quite excited about it last night. Thought he was Bruce Lee with all the little noises he was making. I told him I would get the camcorder out and film it. I could call it "Enter the Golf Club".
Oli the dog is ok though. But the way he's clawing at my carpet atm, he wont be for much longer.

Ahhhhh, so

Dreamy, great news about your mum. Hope shes feeling fighting fit again and ready for xmas. Sorry to hear about your BIL though.

Olivo, you shopaholic! I'm sure you can still get 2nd class stamps. They'll probably still cost a small fortune though. Have you seen the price of a first class stamp! Tis daylight robbery! Dick Turpin would have demanded less. Whens your appt with the Paed for the reflux?

Pinky, it happens to us all at some point, the finger chopping! Its such a difficult job to do though isnt it. How is he now?

Boo, mels was saying she had squirrels too. I didnt think they were a problem. They are so cute!

Eeny, how are you today me deary?

Pucca, wow to Georges weight. What a star! Bet he's a right a scrummy cuddly little thing.

We had Ellis weighed yesterday and he's 13lb 6oz. HV that came wasnt my usual one but we've seen her before. She said she would go back and discuss a weaning plan with my HV to try and combat his reflux as its started up bad again. I got a real smothering yesterday! Shes said to maybe just try some baby rice at lunch time. It just seems so early this time. He's still a little baby to me. He is certainly having a growth spurt though as he's waking at 3/4am. I'm not having to feed him but he has a little cry, groans for a bit then nods back off again.

Well essay over lol!

MrsChristmasboo · 06/12/2006 09:42

Dreamy, glad to hear your mum is ok.

Yellow, as far as cute goes, hmmm i will have to disagree. Thhe buggers nearly brought the roof down on our flat as they'd chewed halfway thru the beams in the loft, they chewed all ds1s old teds, dhs record collection etc etc etc. So i won't tell you all what we had done to 'em....Even i was crying!!!!
And as far as Gary goes, does that mean you had my sloppy seconds?

Santamander · 06/12/2006 09:49

Has anyone tried their little ones on Baby Rice yet?

eenysugarplumfairy · 06/12/2006 10:21

Hi all!!

Snow I am sorry I forgot to ask Sal to resize your pic. Will definitely do it tonight and get it emailed to you!

Yellow I cant believe everything thats going on with you! You poor thing!!

Booby sounds like you have a fun night ahead of you!

Dreamy so glad to hear your Mum is getting some good news, she really deserves it, as do you.

Pink - Poor you and poor Caleb!!!! I feel almost worse for you as I know how dreadful you must feel!! He'll have forgotten it by now. I am always terrified when we have to do Alex's nails. They are almost alwyas too long as I dread doing it. I really only do it in his sleep. Poor thing!!

We are ok. Still giving Alex baby rice which he seems to be enjoying. He keeps sleeping durin gthe day for like 10 mins at a time which is driving me nuts I want him to take nice long naps so I can come on MN and clean!

Santamander · 06/12/2006 10:39

Hey Eeny, you don't need to clean Mumsnet.
They have people to do that for them.

PinkTinsel · 06/12/2006 10:54

one handed typing and a filthy house, thats how i do it eeny

caleb still has his plaster on, i'm fraid to take it off in case it starts bleeding again...... so ridiculous! i'm a trained nursing cadet ffs! i don't know why i get so panicy when it's my own kids! he punished me by having a miserable night though so we're even now.

sal, i've started sitting caleb on my lap at the table so whenever he starts to snatch food himself i'll take as my cue to start giving him his own potion, at the minute he still just watches sarah eating her dinner with big wide eyes so if i had to guess i'd say he'll start solids at about 5 1/2 months or so. i'm not going to worry if it's a bit before 6 months as he's so big and well developed.

feathers OMG! attack of the rat or what?! am pmsl at your dh and th golf club, film it and put it on you tube arse about comet not covering the damage though on your behalf. will your really have to rip down the wall? surely rodents die behind walls all the time? i know for a fact theres a dead mouse behind the carpet on my parents stairs thanks to my cat!

BigHotMama · 06/12/2006 12:22

Morning everyone hope your all good!

Well, Jackson has slept really well in his new (huge) cotbed in his own room the last few nights so I'm thinking that the moses basket was just too small for him as he only now wakes up once for a feed between 10pm-6am. His last night in the basket he had had us up at least seven times and we were tearing our hair out with him, also have started putting him in his M&P's sleeping bag as he always kicks off his blankets so that seems to be working a treat. He's also sleeping in there in the day too, so am feeling so happy that its working and it wasnt as hard a switch as I'd imagined. I'm loving getting more sleep and dont have to tiptoe round our bedroom or kick Dh for snoring too loud lol. I'm also putting him down while he's awake and he nods off on his own, I used to have to rock him with dummy.

Had a mad dream last night that I had Jackson christened in a bright pink dress with black bows yuk! WTF?

Good to hear your mom's recovering Dreamy, and happy 40th for the other day!

Pink, its sooo hard cutting their nails, I've almost done it as he's riggling like mad now if I cut them, dont be too harsh on yourself, it will be healed in no time.

Lmao and at your fiasco Yellow, hope you get the little bugger! Bummer about the insurance too, they always find an excuse not to pay dont they?

Did some xmas shopping yesterday with dh and ds, it was so nice spending a day together as a family and Jackson slept for 4 hours . We had to wake him for a feed! Got a cute xmas outfit for Jackson, it is beige velour and says 'mommy's christmas pudding' on front with a hat which is a xmas pudding.

Well the xmas tree is up and looking very festive, its cram packed with deco its nearly tipping over .

Welcome to mumtoapiglet (love the name btw) and Bella!

Booby have good day out for your birthday and hope you get to have sex, I planned in my head to give my dh a birthday treat yesterday but bottled out from tiredness in the end. Hopes he will get some for xmas lol.

Oh 1 more thing, I lost another 1.5 pounds this week so have now lost half stone yippee!

MrsChristmasboo · 06/12/2006 13:03

Well done BHM at the weight loss. Really am trying to kick myself into gear to lose enough to fit in my lovely pre pg trousers and skirts. (Saying that it was the skirts fault i got pg all three times! )

Eeny, no problem hun, i know how baby brain gets us all.

Austin has been on baby organix banana porridge for a couple of weeks now and he now sleeps like a dream. Only problem is he is still grabbing my dinner/lunch or whatever he can reach so i think i'll have to start with breakfast as well as dinner. The amount he eats i thought he'd be a chubster but so far his weight has been a good steady gain. Now i need to get his big brother to eat!!!!

Pink, i wait until Austin is asleep then attack him and ds1 with the scissors. Don't feel bad about it, any consolation i cut dhs toe when i treated him to a pedicure. Now i wonder why he hasn't wanted one since ????

PinkTinsel · 06/12/2006 13:28

well done BHM you must be dead chuffed!

thanks all, just had both of us in tears again trying to remove the plaster to survey the damage so i've decreed it shall stay on till it falls off. i used to do dd when she was sleeping but poor caleb rarely sleeps during the day and missy goes out of her way to wake him when he does, he has a big gash on his face from his nails and me and dp look like we've been fighting with cats so i grabbed the chance to do it last night while he was reasonably quiet. never again says she!

BigHotMama · 06/12/2006 13:52

Thanx girls am well chuffed but not sure how I did it this week as had been quite naughty with going out for meals and had fish n chips once so probably dont deserve to have lost that 1.5lb, got to be really good this week, and I know I'll probably pile it back on over xmas. Got 3 weeks to lose another half and I'll be happy!

Snowboo, how much baby porridge do you give Austin and what time of the day? Am thinking of starting jackson in few weeks and am looking for ideas. Lol at him grabbing your food. Jackson just stares at us when we eat ha!

I feel so guilty sometimes, today I've got up and done nothing but play, talk and sing with jackson and sit on here, I've not even had a wash, washed up or got out of my pj's? Does anybody else do this? I know i should be doing more with my days?

eenysugarplumfairy · 06/12/2006 13:54

yes well done BHM!

Pink I feel so sorry for you, poor Caleb!

Snow thanks for understanding. I will definitely get it done tonight!

BHM glad the transition to the cotbed has gone well for you! Alex sleeps in his cot in our room.

PinkTinsel · 06/12/2006 13:55

eeny, your msn is still being wierd love, your listed as offline

Santamander · 06/12/2006 15:33

Hi All

Thanks Pink and everyone for the Baby Rice feedback.

Alex is a big bouncer too for four months (16lb yesterday) and very very hungry.

See this thread I posted - interesting responses!

Shall we have a weigh in?
Eeny & I have started then... maybe someone could do a lovely list!!!

PinkTinsel · 06/12/2006 16:49

gotta say i'd be inclined to agree with them sal weaning really doesn't settle them unless their absolutely ready for it, quite the opposite. and while that might not necessarily be 6 months for every baby (look at austin for example ) for an early baby with as many other problems as alex it's not likely to do much good.

i'd be wary of taking what the hv says as gospel.... mine recently told me she doubts dd has a milk intolerace 'seeing as you breastfed, she would have reacted to the bm if she was. milk is milk after all'

MrsChristmasboo · 06/12/2006 18:14

Oh i'd better not tell you how much our greedy guts has!!!! Don't wanna be kicked off MN lol....

Will get Austin weighed Tues to add to the list. If i said 'heavy' does that count for now?

Am still waiting for Austin to have his 2nd set of jabs as he is poorly today and couldn't have them but hopefully by the time he is 18 years old we will be up to date!
Does anyone knoq where i can get a list of NICE doctors and practices? Today took the biscuit for my current drs as they were yet again really rude and unhelpful and i've had enough! Also, if the practice manager won't talk to us where do i complian?

MrsChristmasboo · 06/12/2006 18:15

knowcomplain

Thats what you get for typing with a 4yo on your lap picking your nails off!!!!

eenysugarplumfairy · 06/12/2006 18:25

Booby sorry I disapeared earlier my friend dropping in with her little boy and I ended up getting jolly with mulled wine!

MumToAPiglet · 06/12/2006 18:39

hi all

one handed typing so excuse any typos.

pinktinsel - you are not alone in making your baby bleed while nail clipping, i have done the same to dd TWICE!!! i now have a phobia of touching her nails so they keep getting too long and scratching her face.

bighotmama - it sounds like you are on a weight loss mission like me. i lost 1lb this week. 12lbs to go (i put on 4.5 stone when pregnant!!!)

on the baby weight front anna is 17 weeks and 14lbs 9oz. she was a whopping 9lbs 4oz at birth but in the last few weeks has dropped from 91st centile to just below 75th. she is exclusively bf so i think the fact she is getting leaner is normal.

does anyone else find their babies keep rotating their bodies in their cots so they wake up crying as their heads are mashed up against the bars? anna is swaddled and still manages it. i have no idea how to stop it. any ideas?

BigHotMama · 06/12/2006 20:40

Lol MumtoPiglet, I found Jackson in same position yesterday afternoon, have you tried a grobag? Well done for losing nearly all your baby weight, must be the bf-ing . I'm just a natural fattie even before i got pg but luckily only put on 2nhalf stone which I have 1 stone to lose.

I think I'm too scared to even attempt to wean just yet would hate Jackson to get all upset and bothered as he's teething aswell so maybe not a good time for me yet. How do you know when they're 'ready'? Eeny I dont have any advice for you but I'm so confused with all the conflicting advice from everyone. I get my family telling me he should be on solids by now bla bla, then some say 17 weeks and now its officially 6 months? But the foods say from 4 months? arrrrrgghhhh!!!!
Am glad Austin is loving it Snowboo, how old was he when he first had some porridge?

Forgot to mention that I'm starting to do gel nails/extensions as I got qualified few years ago but never really got into it but my sister did and she's giving all her clients up now to concentrate on her teaching course so she's giving them my number and my 1st client hasnt bothered to turn up tonight and not even texted to say why? I hate people who do this!!! Xmas Angry

MrsChristmasboo · 06/12/2006 21:14

BHM Austin was 16weeks but ready for it. Every time i sat down with food he would do this whinging thing which he does when hes hungry, upped his milk to 8oz but he was having too many bottles per day so ended up vomiting, waking at night when he'd prev go thru etc etc etc. I actually weaned ds1 at just over three months as again he was ready. I know they now say don't do it but myself and more or less everyone i know was weaned at about three months and we've come to no harm. My niece was 9 weeks prem and was weaned at 16 weeks, again she is very healthy and considering her start in life she is a miracle. So i think it definately depends on the individual child. Apart from my dh who was weaned at......8weeks! Now that did shock me....

PinkTinsel · 06/12/2006 21:30

lol Snow, strange that when caleb and austin are so alike in most way with the size and activity that caleb isn't bothered yet? i honestly thought i'd be fighting him off the plates by now but he couldn't care less? austin sounds really into his grub, so cute (my mom was giving me orange juice at 8 weeks and baby rice a couple of weeks later )

MrsChristmasboo · 06/12/2006 21:36

OMG so its not just my MIL then!!!

Right, have pic of Austin to show off. How do i do a link from member profiles??

MrsChristmasboo · 06/12/2006 21:39
