Thanks goats and fate I'll do some measuring and see what'll fit beside bed.

STIGZ · 06/03/2015 20:51

buttwing i just had the coil fitted last week for the first time, i made the descion based on a couple of reasons. Like you i am 99% sure i do not want any more children and the other reason is i am totally sick of being full of artificial hormones... I just want my body back to "normal" now im done with pregnancy so i chose the copper coil with no hormones whatsoever. It was a bit uncomfortable & embarrassing but nothing like labour painsShock but i feel so much better not having to remember to take a "pill" everyday plus the fact that i know anything i am feeling will be "real" and not artificial iyswim??

Thanks stigz that's really good to know. Sorry to ask such a personal question but have you had a period yet? I'm only asking because the nurse said that sometimes the copper coil can cause heavy painful periods and as I've had really bad periods most of my life I don't want to make them worse. But then like you I love the idea of no hormones nit sure what to do for the best! I will chat to the gp about it.

Dp is out on a works do tonight not looking forward to him coming in drunk. We don't have a spare room anymore they are all full of children!!
We put Babywing in his own room last night felt a bit sad I won't ever have a little baby next to me again. Trying to focus on all the lovely things to come though :)

STIGZ · 06/03/2015 21:50

buttwing i stopped my pill the day i had my coil fitted, two days later my period came, nothing out of the ordinary but dont know if thats hormones still in my system? So ask me again next month when its a "proper period" what where your periods like before having your last? Where you trying? Because i sort of of based my descion on what my periods where like when i wasnt on my pill "trying".,. They weren't that bad ... Compared to when i was 14Confused

stigz I'm not actually that sure! Because my last two are so close together I only had a couple of periods between Blush
They've been quite bad since this last baby but only the first day. The idea of no hormones is really appealing though. Think maybe I need to do a bit of research!

One thing I know is it needs to be reliable I really do not need any more babies Grin

FATEdestiny · 06/03/2015 22:24

I've been having the exact same internal discussion regarding hormonal or non-hormonal coil. Just like mentioned, I do not want to mess with my natural hormones too much if it can be avoided.

However (TMI warning) I have short but mad heavy periods - No longer than 36 hours of bleeding, usually 24 hours or less. But hourly tampon plus pad changes then bath towels and 'bed wetting pads' required on the bed overnight. It's over with quickly though, which is the silver lining.

I am not sure it is even possible for my periods to become even heavier, so unsure how the copper coil will affect this.

Also, I tend to suffer some hormonal related acne Blush alongside my menstrual cycle. I understand that some forms of contraception can make this worse and some actually stop it. I don't want it getting any worse.

YellowWellies · 07/03/2015 04:22

Sazzle just a quickie but our dietician has just recommended this book (sorry can't remember how to do links on my phone) thought it might help with your concerns about weaning www.allergyfreebabyandtoddler.com/ xxxx

tattyblue · 07/03/2015 11:31

A propos the coil- I had a copper coil for years because I didn't want to hormonally exacerbate existing depression. My experience with periods was that the first one was horrible- heavy but also made me feel really weird- but after that it settled down and it was worth it to never have to think about it.

ohthegoats · 07/03/2015 15:32

I can't take hormones for various reasons, so have had copper coils as my main contraception since my early 20s. If you have bad periods with them, and can hack having one refitted, then try getting it changed. I've had some that have been fine and some that have caused some issues, but stick with them, they're ace when they're right.

sazzlehopes · 07/03/2015 15:53

Thanks yellow - so nice of you to pop on and recommend. I'll check it out now...

MundayCakes85 · 07/03/2015 18:48

Evening all, last feed of the night accompanied by Ewan the sheep. A bit annoyed with DH today, firstly I didn't get the lie in I asked for. Woke him up at 9am with grumpy baby, then we didn't go out for a walk he ruined the grass in the garden instead so I pushed baby to and from the shops. So no family time Sad
There was a long list of jobs to do and he massacred the garden. Angry
Hope everyone else had better days.

MundayCakes85 · 07/03/2015 18:49

*meant last feed before bed time, not the night. I'm not that lucky Smile

mrsb87 · 07/03/2015 20:17

Does anyone else ache? My joints and most of my muscles ache s lot of the time - I mostly carry pip, which I know will affect my back and posture (and therefore some leg muscles), but none of my different carriers actually hurt my back when I'm using them. I've used a pushchair since Tuesday with no ache improvements. Things like my arms ache - I can't reach the middle of my back anymore for example.

Am I alone? If not, has anyone worked out what might fix it? I'm wondering if I need a pist pregnancy 'realigning' or something.

Re-lurks

ExcitedCJ · 07/03/2015 21:56

Hello there, not posted in ages, been lurking too but since you have come out of the woodwork Bump I thought I would say hi too. Just started weaning this week too @ 24 weeks. All is going well & he is a hungry monster.
Hello there MrsB long time no talk.

Sleepywaterbaby · 07/03/2015 21:58

Evening all.

Re the copper coil. I had one for about 2 years and found that my periods were slightly heavier for about 2 days, but nothing I couldn't manage. I've tried various contraceptive pills in the past and always found that I become an unpredictable beast of a girlfriend - emotions swinging all over the shop. So, on balance, the coil was preferable.

Re aching muscles etc... I went for my first postnatal exercise class this week. One of the ones you do with the buggies. I thought it would ease me back into exercise and I did feel wonderful afterwards. Two days later however, I am having 2 baths a day, lots of ibuprofen and can only walk down the stairs with one leg at a time. A bit embarrassing. It was all the squats and lunges which I think did it.
I do some baby-wearing, but I reckon if I did a lot of it my core muscles wouldn't be up to it. Not at the moment any way.

DP is going to FF lo for her 3/4am wake up tonight. Hoping I don't wake up due to rock solid boobs... fingers crossed. Taking the hand pump with me in case.

Splendide I have lots of ups and downs. Remember everything you are doing is good enough. It doesn't have to be anything other than good enough. It's so darn tough. Also, some of your NCT people are lying. Promise you. Plus, as others have said, it's swings and roundabouts with babies. You might not get as much sleep, but they may not get as many smiles, or as much interaction etc...

mrsb87 · 07/03/2015 22:06

Hello all! Thought I'd resurface for a quick hello.
Splendide I've been up and down a lot with pnd because of shocking birth, cmpi and reflux. I really hope you're getting enough support? Nothing stays the same for long. Before you know it there will be something else!

Grannyapple · 08/03/2015 07:18

Hello ladies...just popping on to say hi.

Not much to report here...oh except my redundancy gets confirmed tomorrow. Feel ok about it...now ive got my head around it & that I'll have 2 under 2 at home for the foreseeable future (that's the part in not sure about, lol!). Just need to make sure I can keep DD entertained whist I await a pre school place for her...she loves nursery at the mo & I love the time one on one with Adam plus I get stuff done at home when older two aren't around Grin.

splendide hang on in there & take what other nct friends say with a pinch of salt...as others have said, they may be only mentioning a tiny snippet of what really goes on.

stigz good luck with the weaning. I'll admit to not particularly looking forward to weaning largely due to the mess it creates but I need to remember Adam is my last so need to indulge him. Can't believe I'll be weaning him soon already. I kinda started Amelia earlier at 5.5 months but leaving Adam as long as possible til he's properly sitting up etc as I just got annoyed when Amelia started refusing food..

Off for a run soon hopefully...if DH ever makes it downstairs to take over breakfast time...Hmm

MundayCakes85 · 08/03/2015 07:31

Waves at all the de-lurkers!!<
Hope everyone had a pleasant night? We had our usual 4am feed, then she started grumbling/ cough-crying at 6.50. Turns out she's done a poonami.
Any ideas when I'll ever get to sleep past 7am? I feel like I want to go turf DH out of bed so he can suffer too!

ohthegoats · 08/03/2015 08:44

Well, we were up at 11, 12.20, 2.00, 4.19, 4,49, 5.30, 6.40 then 7.50. So Munday, we can get her to sleep past 7am, just at no other point. Cry.

This just isn't sustainable for me, yet can't work out how to sort it out.

splendide · 08/03/2015 09:02

Hey all, nice to see some delurkers!

I'm ok, thank you for the concern. I had an ok night last night so hopefully I'll feel a bit better today. Sorry you had a shit night Goats, is she feeding at every wake?

splendide · 08/03/2015 09:05

When I say ok I mean 4 wake ups so still crap really but better than it has been.
