lol marthahm. The joys of wooden floors. Just a quick question. When you ladies were pregnant would you have considered hiring a doula? I quite like the idea of becoming one when lo is a bit older and have actualy started a thread to find out more about what it involves and what qualifications I need. By the looks of it I have the qualifications, experience of motherhood, cant argue with that eh? I would love to become a midwife but its too much training and I dont like the idea of working in a hospital so this sounds a brill alternative.

youngmum21 · 19/12/2006 14:36

Hi all

I havent posted for ages jasmine been keeping me busy and has recently had a cold so has not been in the besst of moods!!!
Dp has also had man flu so it like having two babies to look after and now im suffering with the worse cold eva and had to ask dp to have the day off to day to look after dd it a nice break though got to stay in bed till 1.30 who wud of thought id be doing that eva again !!!

Tigerlion- you can use gripe water from 4 weeks old we have been using it with dd and it seems to have worked, she use to get stomach ache and wasnt bring her wind up in the evening and she use to scream for hours but now touch wood she is fine no screaming or stomach ache and she brings her wind up almost straight away and you can use it with infacol cuz we are using both!!!

BENDYB · 19/12/2006 16:21

hi every1, been so busy 2day sorting out xmas stuff, just got 5 mins 2 sit down so thought i'd say hi!havent read allthe thread yet but hope every1 & their los are ok.

gingeme- i would def consider a doula, after this time definetly, i didn't find my midwife very nice or helpfull at all,it would have been nice 2 have some more support, i didn't know much bout doulas when i was pregnant, its only after i've found out more, i always thought they would be 2 expensive but really they're not & definetly worth the money i'd say. I think u should go for it!

hey youngmum, lucky u! staying in bed till 1.30!!! never knew u could use gripewater from 4 weeks, might have 2 try it, infacol doesn't really seem 2 b working anymore!

BENDYB · 19/12/2006 17:09

hi again, 4got 2 ask this earlier, just wanted some advice bout poo!!! the last 2days ds poo has changed from being yellow & runny 2 being harder & a dark green colour & it smells different 2 normal! should i b worried bout this? I am bottlefeeding him by the way, dunno if that makes a difference, havent changed his milk & he doesn't seem 2 b in any pain. just wonder why its suddenly changed! i'm gonna ring doc or hv in morning but just thought i'd ask u lot aswell! thanks, x

Gingeme · 19/12/2006 19:08

Thanks Bendyb whens your second one due then? I might have done the course by then. Edwards pooh differs from nappy to nappy. Sometimes its realy yellow and runny sometimes its quite solid and green. It says on the box that this is perfectly normal. Tried him with cooled boiled water today. He guzzled 4 oz then half hour later had his bottle of milk. Little piggy. Hes gone from 4 hourly to 3 hourly this past couple of days to. Might up his milk an ounce. Put our Chrisrmas decs up today. Never done it this late before. I dont feel very festive though. Think Im too tired . Lo's got his jabs in the morning. Not looking forward to that.

BENDYB · 19/12/2006 19:54

gingeme-i'm not having another 1 already! no way!I meant when i do have another 1! sorry didn't make that very clear! so u think the poo seems normal then,i supose if he doesn't seem ill or nothing then its ok. i was just a bit worried coz its never been like that before!i've tried giving him water & he wouldn't drink it! how many oz of milk does edward normally have? & how often? i've just put kai's milk up to 6oz & he has it every 3 hours, he still seems hungry though, but i'm not sure if i should put it up again??

Gingeme · 19/12/2006 20:01

Edward has 6oz of Cow and Gate and until yesterday he was going every 4 hours on the dot. 8am,12,4,8 etc but last night and today hes been going 3 hourly inc the water so I ll put the milk up an ounce and see how that suits him. Sometimes hell drink the lot sometimes hell leave some so just go by what he drinks. Up it for a few days and if he takes the lot then so be it if not put it back down. Its all trial and error. He may be goign through a growing spurt. Try again with the water in a couple of days too the more you try the more he will get used to it. Dont forget that will make his pooh different too. Hope that helps a bit.

BENDYB · 19/12/2006 22:12

yeah thanks gingeme thats really helpfull! I'll try putting it up tomorrow & try again with the water 2. Thanks. x

SkinnyLiz · 19/12/2006 23:37

hi all, haven't been on for ages, must make more of an effort. its great being able to chat to other mums here. don't have much of interest to say really, just feeling the need to gush sickeningly at about how wonderful my lo is. I'm a single mum, staying home with the parents in essex at the mo, but going it alone up in scarborough on 29th. its been great being pampered by parents, try to do my bit round the house but mum insists on cooking every night. Bliss! think I'll starve once I'm on my own.

oliver's an absolute angel, but i do have one worry. since i have no structure to my day, and having done shift work in restaurants for last 2 years, my routine is non-existent, its been really hard to impose one on myself and him. night times are fine, but don't do anything routine during the day, just let him nap when he wants. should I try and make him sleep at certain times, if so when and how long?? or just leave well enough alone? advice would be great

Rumpel · 20/12/2006 09:16

Morning All

Gingeme - hope your Lo is ok after the jabs - and you as it is horrid for Mummy too! Brought a tear to my eye. Doulas are great for some folk. It depends on your birth experience and support network I think. My Mum was great support and help for all of us but not everyone is lucky enough to have a good support network. If you are lucky enough to have a 'normal' birth I think a doula would be great - if you need a C-section they can sometimes be a bit surplus to requirments by the looks of it. I watched that Mum plus one on cable when pg and it was very interesting. Good idea though, as I think they are becoming much more popular.

Skinnyliz - My LO has no routine during the day - I just let her sleep when she wants to. I am happy with the fact that she will sleep at night and seems to know the difference between night and day. I'd rather she slept at night well than try to structure her day too much.

Have to try and pack today as we are off at ridiculous am tomorrow to my parents'. I think we need a lorry for all the stuff instead of a car! Amazing how much you need for a baby isn't it?

Bought fat scales the other day - they tell you your percentage of fat and water as well as your weight. Mega detox required in the NY!

Gingeme · 20/12/2006 09:34

Thanks Rumpel. My lo doesnt realy have a routine to his day either only in the evening when I bath him and ds3 about 7.30 and theyre both usualy in bed for 8 pm.
Bendyb just an example of differen amounts of milk needed. Edward had his bottle of 7 oz at 7.30 last night. Drank the lot and did a few very impressive burps. Put him to bed where he continued to wiggle and fuss for about 15 mins. Kept burping him and changed his nappy again. Still fussing so I tried him with some more milk. He drank another 3 oz then settled nicely till 3am.Thenhe had 7oz and slept till77. So like I say its all trial and error.

catgirl · 20/12/2006 11:22

morning all. Well ds2 has been keeping his milk down much better now that we are feeding him in a more upright position and taking lots of time to make sure all his wind is up. Having said that, he wouldn't settle last night and was fussing around - he ended up bringing up a load of phlem (all over dh!) and fell asleep - hope it isn't the start of a cold. Got him weighed yesterday and he is 12lbs 3ozs and still on the same chart line, so hasn't lost any, which I am happy with. The nurse said sometimes it is the move from breast to formula that can make them a bit sicky, but to keep an eye on him if he sicks up every feed and looks ill, which he doesn't.

I think a doula would be a great idea, even if you ended up with a c-section, as my understanding is they are there to be your birth partner, however your birth turns out, so they can be your advocate/fight our corner etc? Or have I got that wrong? Not for us though - dh making a docs appt to talk about the snip - soon I hope!

Marthamh - hope your dh has pooed now! If not hope the pead was reassuring/helpful. Before becoming a parent I couldn't imagine wishing for a baby to poo!

Gingeme -hope jabs were ok. Have ds1 and ds2 booked in for jabs on 28 Dec - what a fun day! Figured may as well get them over with together, especially as dh is at home we can all grump together! Then off to see The Snowman on stage the next day with ds1 (well, not sure which one of us will be taking him) so hopefully that will make up for sticking him with needles!

Must go and get dressed now - before ds2 wakes up! have a good one.

SkinnyLiz · 20/12/2006 12:28

gingeme, thanx for that, stops me worrying a bit. you get bombarded with so much advice when you have a baby, its hard not to worry constantly about doing the 'right' thing. but he seems perfectly happy so thats the main thing.

SkinnyLiz · 20/12/2006 12:29

and rumpel too sorry missed that 1st time round

Gingeme · 20/12/2006 16:01

Thats ok Skinnyliz. Edward realy realy screamed when he had his jabs this morning.Wasnt a happy bunny all day. I went and got my nails done for the first time since lo was born this morning. Theyll take some getting used to again but makes me feel more human again. Gave lo some Calpol at 2 he had a bottle at 3 and is now sound asleep. Glad I could be of some help with the milk situation. xx

BENDYB · 20/12/2006 17:32

aw i'm not looking forward 2 when kai has his jabs! I think i'll cry!!! Thanks again 4 advice gingeme! ur so helpfull!!!
I didn't put his milk up 2day but i tried him on water again & he sicked it back up again!!! I'll try again in few days, i must start getting him into more of a routine after xmas, we havent really got 1 yet, he now sleeps through the night almost every night now though so thats good!

hope every1 else is ok! x

Justers · 20/12/2006 19:14

Hi everyone
Lo had his jabs today and really screamed his head off for a few seconds then was fine again. He's been sleeping since we got back after having a feed so hopefully he'll be ok. I was so nervous before he got them but was concentrating on giving him lots of cuddles and babbling baby talk that I didn't get upset.
Can't believe it's christmas on monday and that i'm all organised(presents even wrapped!) it's amamzing how having a baby makes you get you arse in gear as normally i'd just be starting my shopping now.

Gingeme · 20/12/2006 20:34

Bit worried about lo. He had his jabs at 10.30 was a bit grotty through the afternoon. I gave him some Calpol at 2 and he drank about 4oz of that. Hes been asleep since. Aparantly this can happen. None of ym other boys did this. Better go to bed now and make the most of it then

Gingeme · 20/12/2006 20:36

No no no not 4 oz of Calpol I mean 4 oz of his bottle. Phew didnt want to start getting calls from Social Services.

youngmum21 · 21/12/2006 10:16

morning all,

Do babies sleep more if they are poorly, i think dd has a cold as she has got a really snotty nose, ive took her temp but that ok.

Mellin · 21/12/2006 12:51

lol Gingeme! Was worried for a sec that you had dosed the lo up on Calpol.

We have just stocked up on Calpol as dd has her jabs next week. A belated xmas present for her (or maybe us if it makes her dozey!)Not looking forward to seeing the nurse jab needles into dd.

Went to baby clinic this week and dd has just reached 9lb (@ 7 weeks). Seems to be so much smaller than all your lo's.

Swizzler · 21/12/2006 17:38

Not posted for a while as was being spoiled at MIL's . W loved it and started sleeping muvh better - down by 8pm then only waking twice before 6/7 am. Must have been the bracing fenland air - hope it lasts!

Hope everyone's LOs are doing well - has your DS got over his bug, Gingeme? Being a doula sounds great BTW - sharing your vast experience with more rookie mums - you've practised on some of us after all

Trying to get rest of Xmass stuff finished, so if I'm not able to post before Mon have a great Xmas all

Swizzler · 21/12/2006 17:47

Mellin: W seems to be gettin better with the pick up, put down thing. He's been settling himself v well at MIL's., but perhaps her house is more peaceful than mine! Sometimes it doesn't work, tho, so after a few crying and picking ups, I give up and feed him properly to sleep. He seems to need this if he's feeling extra grumpy.

pmoore · 21/12/2006 20:32

Well it must be grumpy season. LO seems to be very sad at the moment. Doesn't want to be held- much prefers lying watching her animals go round on her cot mobile- like Dr. Dolittle she talks to the animals.

Samantha has had a really snotty nose for the last two weeks seems to be since injections. Got some different drops to unblock her nose now though.

Got LO weighed today 11 weeks old and is 14lb 4oz.

No more news from me- ready for Christmas just about.

Gingeme- Being a doula sounds good they were advertising for trainee doulas in my health clinic. Think it was a Dartford number though.

BTW- has anyone being feeling extra cold since they had their LO's? - I don't ever seem to be warm.

Gingeme · 21/12/2006 21:18

Yes thanks swizzler ds is back to his cheeky self. My bigger boys are here now and hes been so naughty. LO one has had a funny sort of day. Has been grumpy and hasn't realy settled much all day. He was messing with his feeds again too. Just had a bottle at 8 and is thankfully in bed asleep. Im going out tommorrow night for my friends birthday. I havn't been out on my own for a year! In fact it was her birthday I last went out. Trouble is were not going to get in till the am so Im gonna be totalt shattered. Oh well its been a year best make the most of it might not happen again for another year!! Well Im off for a bath now as lo was sick down my leg yuk! Night night xx
