haven't tried warm flannels, will do. tried the olive oil plus massage and was not popular! going to try the homeopath tomorrow.

Justers · 11/12/2006 21:39

Hi everyone. Haven't posted for ages hope everyone is well. My lo is getting on well i think i'm passed the shell-shocked stage now! He is 7 weeks and i'm still managing to bf after much perseverence and agony of cracked nipples! Life seems to be getting back to some sort of normality, dh and i even managed to get out to cinema the other night to see new bond film. Daniel Craig was very hot in it!

binbon2 · 11/12/2006 21:53

Bendy, my LO is 6 weeks now. She had really bad colic for a couple of weeks. Took her to the Dr, who prescribed Colief. It is an enzyme that breaks down the lactose in milk to glucose, which is easier to digest. I was sceptical, but she has not had colic since, and maybe is worth a try. It is best to see a Dr to get it as a small (7 ml) bottle costs £10! If you do a Google search on Colief the company that makes it has a website with more info.

Hope that helps.

sorry not to have made the meet up yesterday, hope you had fun those who went and Oxford St wasn't too daunting.
My dh got to work to find out he had an afternoon meeting in Kent so came home for lunch so he could get the car. Thought it was lovely for him to come and have lunch at home alas Megan decided to cry most of the time he was home unless she was held so lunch was in shifts!
She is so hit amd miss with her daytime naps, don't know what I'm doing wrong, one day she'll go into her crib no probs and be a dream the next she puts up a real fight to be held all the time. Nightimes however are much better. I try to put her down between 6.30 and 7 and despite whichever mood she is in she is always asleep by 8pm. I wake her at 10 for a feed and she usually can last until 5am, then she wakes again around 8ish.
Today we have her 6 week appointment.

pmoore soory to hear about your grandma being poorly, wishing you all the best.

martha, hope your lo has a better day today and she has managed to get all her poo out.

Gingeme · 12/12/2006 10:32

Sorry you missed the meet up clon. We had a lovely afternoon and Hana and William are just gorgeous. William is a real little dumpling(sorry swizzler) I just wanted to eat him. Realy lovely smiles too. Definately have to meet up again. Maybe do it every couple of months to see how all the lo's are growing. Edward is definately having a growing spurt(hes 7 weeks today). Hes gone from the lovely every 4 hours feeding to roughly 2 1/2 - 3 hourly now. and he polishes his bottles off in no time. Ill give him another couple of days and if hes still like it Ill up his milk to 7oz. My parents are still staying with us. They think my grandad will have to be put into residential care. He tried to put an electric plastic kettle on the hob Saturday. Nearly burnt his kitchen down and he keeps buying milk. Mum said he had about 9 pints in his fridge all off yuk! So sad to think he used to be such an independant man. Anyway off to buy him some bits and pieces now to take to him this afternoon. Hope all your little ones are well. xxxx

Mellin · 12/12/2006 14:49

Hi all,

Reading through all your posts I am glad to see we are not the only ones whose baby is keeping adult time. Dd is coming to bed with us around 11pm. I know we will have to bite the bullet soon and get her to sleep around 7-8pm but don't want to rock the boat just yet because she has only just this week done her longest stretch of sleep - 4 hours! (it seemed like 8 to dh & I, we are sleep deprived zombies at the mo).

Had 6 week check-up yesterday which I might as well have done myself for the amount of time the dr spent with us. Did find out the dd has a big head. Head circumference in on 50th percentile but her weight is on 9th!

Planning on a trip into London city on Friday to take dd to work as everyone wants to meet her. Scary tho as will have my first experience of breastfeeding in public. I was thinking I might try a Starbucks as they are smoke free? Anyone else tried bf out and about yet?

pmoore · 12/12/2006 18:08

Glad you had a good time- can't wait for the next meet up.

gingeme- LO is nearly 10 weeks now and is drinking 7oz, she is seeming like she wants to drink more- worried that she shouldn't be drinking 8oz. How are these babies supposed to get to 6 months without food?
Grandparents are a worry- seems to be the time of year.

mellin- are they worried about the head circumference thing?

marthahm- DD is suffering from constipation, eventually she manages it but it is so distressing. I asked about putting teaspoon of fresh orange juice in boiled water- the HV told me to over boil carrots and give her the water to drink- I wouldn't even do that myself. So we are just giving her boiled water.

totallyfloaty35 · 12/12/2006 20:40

Mellin,my baby has big head to,height she is on 25th,weight 50th but head is 98th centile. They dont seem bothered so im not.I have brest fed in public lots of times, just wear a baggy top, also u can ask if there is a quiet place u can feed, most places very helpful.

Swizzler · 12/12/2006 21:09

Mellin: I have bfd just about everywhere (including lots of times at the meet-up as W very hungry at the moment!). Starbucks are particularly good, as they have changing facilities as well. I tend to wear a vest top underneath another top and pull one down and the other up, IYSWIM. Was nervous the first few times but now I have no shame

Was really nice to see G, J and S yesterday and to see the babies - they were both lovely and impressively quiet (unlike William who is too nosey for his own good!). I'm getting him weighed tomorrow so will see exactly how much of a dumpling he is - have a feeling he'll be well over 13 lbs.

We've had another grumpy day, with W feeding a lot, but he went to bed at about 7. Think he's just worn out. Here's hoping for a quiet night.

Mellin: it's great when they go more than 2 hours, isn't it? Problem is, you get used to it. W has gone back to waking every 2 hours for the past couple of nights and I'm knackered!

Gingeme: good luck for the growth spurt. It is tiring, but at least you know it will be over soon

Gingeme · 12/12/2006 21:36

Im getting Edward weighed at last tommorrow. Cant wait to see how much he weighs.
pmoore what milk is your lo one? Edward is drinking Cow and Gate and it says on the box to put them up to the next one if they seem hungry. Im gonna give him till the weekend to see if he settles back to every 4 hours like before before I up him again. I always gave my lo's a little diluted orange juice when they were constipated or prune juice which is a little sweeter. Never heard of carrot water Yuk!!My ds2 was terribly constipated with SMA he would scream like mad when he tried to have a pooh. Poor little love.
Things seem on the up for my grandad. Hes going to have home help and a district nurse at home which hes mch happier about. Meals on wheels too. Atleast hell be eating properly now
Well Im off to bed soon.
Thought Id share some of my fridge magnets with you:
You cant scare me, I have children.
Cleaning the house when the kids are growing is like shoveling snow while its still snowing.
A hug is a great gift. One size fits all.
on that note night night. xx

pmoore · 13/12/2006 07:12

gingeme- LO is on Cow & Gate Stage 2- hungrier baby milk. Samantha does only have 5 feeds a day-usually 4 hours apart- last one at 8-9pm and wakes up between 5.30am and 7am.

LO weighed 12lb 13oz last Tuesday on 91st bentile for both height and weight though so growing in proportion.

I've been trying to post a photograph of LO- anyone help me with how to do it?

pmoore · 13/12/2006 07:14

That was supposed to be centile sorry not awake yet.

clon · 13/12/2006 11:36

Hello all

I'll definately make the next meet up, dying to meet everyones babies, maybe end of Jan?

Megan's 6 week check went well she is piling on the pounds, now 11lb 3 so just over the 75th percentile for weight and also length, in true Brit culture it seems she's a binge drinker!

Thinking of braving Bluewater this afternoon to finish off Christmas shopping yikes!

have a good day all.

Rumpel · 13/12/2006 11:48

Hi All,
Glad your meet up was good fun.

RE constipation - My LO was constipated last week, am half and half bf and ff, using aptamil 2,I just lowered the scoops by one eg 4oz water = 3 scoops, so that she was getting more water with each feed, apart from the night feed - seems to do the trick and the HV said it was fine.

She was weighed on Monday and put on 10ozs this week. Still her weight has not caught up with her length - don't understand all that percentile stuff as yet. My HV doesn't really go on about that much.

Had a very busy day yesterday and she was chattering away in her carseat in Tescos - amazing how many people thought I was a mad old bag talking to myself!! boobs were ready to implode by the time I got home though! Gave her ff when out as took her to meet all my old colleagues.

Poor wee soul has a rotten cold and is feeling very sorry for herself needing lots of tlc and cuddles.

pmoore · 13/12/2006 12:03

clon- you live near bluewater? I just tried finishing my Christmas shopping, luckily mum volunteered to have LO. Got most done still DP to buy for.

I am looking forward to next meet up, hope it can be Jan/Feb time.

Hurah at last Ive had Edward weighed. He weed in the scales bowl thingy but didnt cry like ds3 used to. He weighs 11lb 8oz which his brother weighed at the same age. Had ds3 weighed too and hes 2 stone 6oz which is very average for his hieght which we also had checked out. Hes fine. Trouble is the clinic isnt open for 4 weeks now because of the Christmas break so Edward will be roughly 11 weeks then. Still its put my mind at rest now Ive had him weighed. Was lovely and interesting to see all the other babies too. David had a great time with all the toys there. Dint seem to mind the wait either.

Swizzler · 13/12/2006 17:51

Went to clinic today - W 13 lbs 15, so pretty much 14lbs . Will need to buy some more clothes soon. HV also thinks he is starting to teethe - I got some powders from Boots and DH has just given half of one to W so we'll see if that helps.

Sleep - I seem to remember that . W still waking every 2 hours on the dot. We'll see if the strange powders help at all. On the bright side, he's in his crib and fast asleep at the mo, so we may have another peaceful evening.

BTW, my clinic weighs babies but doesn't measure them - is this unusual? May get out the tape measure if I can get W to stop wriggling.

BENDYB · 13/12/2006 22:07

just quickly saying hi, hope every1 ok!

thanks 4 the feeding & water advice, have put milk up to 6oz & tried giving him water but he sicked it back up!!!

got lo weighed 2day, now weighs 10.11 & is 59cm long.

clon · 14/12/2006 11:43

Hi there sounds like lots of babies piling on the pounds which is good, so cute to see chubby cheeks and thighs developing!

pmoore, I live in SE London about 20mins from Bluewater. It wasn't as bad as I feared yesterday but dh and Megan got bored so didn't quite get everything I needed. The family rooms there are great aren't they.

Megan taking a nap now so might go do the same.

majormoo · 14/12/2006 11:49

hi all. pleased to hear we aren't the only ones not getting the baby to bed early evening.

Swizzler my hv said it is hard to get accurate lengths for babies anyway, so maybe that is why they do not bother where you are.

milliee-ironed baby vests. very impressive!

off to a christmas party for dd this afternoon-am planning to allow myself some mulled wine!

glad your meet up went well. maybe we could do a Bluewater meet up in new year if people can get there easily. free parking and m&s and john lewis fine for breastfeeding.

pmoore · 14/12/2006 13:19

Bluewater would be a great meet up place as I only live 15 minutes away!

HV just been and the whole constipation thing sparked a debate- all HV suggest different things she suggested a teaspoon of squeezed orange in cooled boiled water- but she said others will argue it is too acidic.

I've just seen a newborn- my LO looks massive now and heavy! Seems like ages ago.

Finally 10 weeks later getting round to filling in my child benefit form.
