impressed with all of you in pre preg jeans. i can get into mine if i don't breathe or bend-so not really.
have had a surprisingly blissfull 2 days with my mil staying. she has been calming influence. useful when i panic at 11pm that there's something wrong with lo. not so sure about one of her ideas to combat arsenic evenings. she reckons that if we bring everything forward by 1 hour lo will be easier to settle . my worry is that it will just mean 1 extra hour of me holding the screaming baby before dh gets home. as he's not back til 8.30 this seems nightmarish. but, desperate times call for desperate measures, so will give it a go. not ideal right now though as dh super busy at work and back much later than 8.30 and working on saturday . will have to force my dad to take lo out for lots and lots of walks.
also, having read what swizzler said about importance of not getting them overtired in day am dubious about mil's belief that doesn't really matter if lo sleeps in day.
1 more rant-how annoying is this-going through diaries dh casually anounces that on monday night he has a xmas drinks party that he's going to. i'm not invited as it's 'work related' although know there'll be no work involved. he won't be back til 10.30 i reckon from last years one. he never comes back earlier than 8.45 on monday and tuesday because there hardest work days but miraculously will be able to make it to drinks party that starts at 7.30. and yet i can't get to my book group this evening for an hour because he's at work.
wanted to watch child of our time last night to reinforce how lucky i am to have beautiful lo but she screamed all the way through.
big breaking news though-she finally pooed-phew!
sorry for vvvv long post

Hi all,

Swizzler, MadamePlatypus & TotallyFloaty35 thanks for the sleep tips. I got the no cry sleep solution out of the library today (couldn't believe how many baby manuals/routines/instruction books there were in the Fulham library!).

Went to the baby clinic this week and bub is now 8lb 4oz at 5 weeks. Still a midge. And we have finally moved up from tiny baby sized suits to new baby size.

I too tried on some pre-preggers jeans this week and they fit! Must be the breastfeeding because I am getting nowt exercise.

Did anyone experience the 6 week growth spurt that I have been reading about? Bub has been wanting to feed all the time over the last couple of days so wondering if this is it.

EmilyTurner · 06/12/2006 17:05

Dear nicand2

Sorry to hear about your LO. I know how scary it is. Molly was taken in with that at 11 weeks old and was in hospital for 4 days. She had a tap in her hand and was fed with a tube as she was coughing so hard she was vomiting. It was a horrid time. Glad it is mild case for you all.

x

Rumpel · 06/12/2006 18:36

Hi All,

HV came today and Lo was 8lb7 last Wednesday and today weighed an almighty 9lb10.5!! She is 9 weeks old today so much lighter than most of your LO's but she is very long. Am doing half breast and half bottle now - which we are both finding much better. Was going to give up feeding off right boob but it is okay now that I am using it less.

PMOORE - jags are horrid aren't they? Bring a tear to your eye.

Well done for all getting back into your prepg clothes. I have decided to just enjoy Christmas and worry about it after - have almost come to terms with the fact that I am a fat pie just now

to you Mummypossum: sounds like a very stressful day. Sleep deprivation and stress do weird things - I've also wandered out in front of the odd car and DH refuses to let me operate the pram if he's around cos it scares him when I run it into things . Have a peaceful evening (as far as LO will let you). Sorry you can't make the Monday meet-up, but good news that you've got an appointment at the hospital. We must try another meet-up in the New Year. Or if you're around in N/NE London at any point, let me know and we can meet for coffee

W had screaming fit this evening after innoculations - one of his legs is v red and sore . Well dosed with Calpol and he's now fallen asleep on DH.

Swizzler · 06/12/2006 19:32

Marthahm: hope things improve - I think a lot of it is down to age, W is easier to settle as the weeks go on. Still takes a good long while though - I think he's nearly asleep, put him in his cot and bang! the eyes pop open and he starts screeching to be lifted out.

Swizzler · 06/12/2006 19:34

BTW, will ring Pizza Express tomorrow lunchtime to book table. Pmoore: hope you can make it, sorry to hear about your grandma

Gemmitygem · 06/12/2006 22:26

hi all,

haven't been on for a while cos was moving littly over to the UK for a few weeks with my mum in Kent before me, DH and littly head back to Kazakhstan after Christmas.

He had his jabs yesterday, no reaction, but I gave him a bit of calpol anyway (and had some myself, yum!). It was AWFUL watching her give him the injections, like physical pain to oneself (yet another learning of being a mother!)

Have had growth spurt at 8 weeks where I seemed to run out of milk, but after serious lard over the last few days (sausages for lunch, wodges of cheddar cheese in the afternoon), I'm keeping up.

Managed a few early morning jogs of 20 mins, and must say it does make you feel loads better.

How is everyone's sleep going? My little one has feed at 10.30 pm till half eleven, then wakes between 3 and 4 for a feed, then again at 7am. He sometimes wakes at 1,30 or 2 but I leave him for 5 minutes before going to him and he usually drops off again. But 8 weeks is too young to be going through, anyway, isn't it? I do feel he needs the food at some point during the night...

speaking of which, it's feeding time again. hope we all have a good night tonight!

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 06/12/2006 23:29

MummyPossum, how frightening and upsetting for you. And so rough for you and LO to have to go to the hospital on your own. {{hugs}}. Hopefully the eczema will clear up swiftly, now that the cast is off and the skin can be cleaned.

Wish I could come to the meetup, but I'm too far out of London. With my other two dc's activities getting priority, I don't get to go to baby groups, and I really would love to meet other mums and babies of similar age to ds2.

Great envy of those of you with predictable days and decent nights!

EmilyTurner · 07/12/2006 08:12

Hi gemmitygem

Zach is 4 weeks old on Sat and weights 11 pounds and half an oz. He is really long and a big boy. I am on my third dose of antibiotics now to shift mastitis as he fed so much off me (40 mins each side and then 4 oz bottle) that it has gone deep into my right boob. Agony.

He has his last feed about 10.30 (till 11.15) and then wakes up about 2 and then again at 5.30. I am hoping he is like his sister who went through 11-6 at 8 weeks for the first time. It didn't become a regular thing until 10 weeks though.

Here's hoping! Mind you I just don't feel as utterly exhausted as I did with Molly this time. I guess that is three years of no lie ins and broken nights with teething, potty training, etc for you! I think I am just used to surviving on little sleep.

pmoore · 07/12/2006 08:43

Morning-

Anyone know how we are supposed to ever get time to write out Christmas cards? Such a simple task but how come so difficult.

The weather is awful here in Kent got to drive to London today to meet my work friends for lunch type of day I'd rather stay in!

gemmitygem- LO is sleeping well- usually 9.30pm to 6am. We have learned to leave her so that she falls asleep herself in the cot- very tough when all you want to do is cuddle them.
Damn dummy though, Samantha is so reliant that 20 trips up the stairs before sleep to plug it back in is doing wonders for maybe getting back into those jeans!

mummypossum- hope everything goes ok for you and LO.

gemmitygem- where abouts in Kent are you? I'm Gravesend.
I'm sure there was a thread somewhere of everybodies stats???

My grandma is very sick at the moment but the hospice is a great place-massage, manicures and hairdressers for the patients.

Have a good day all.

youngmum21 · 07/12/2006 09:26

morning,

Gemity lo is nearly 4 weeks old and is sleeping 10 till 4 then till 7 as well not sure if this will last but least i have caught up on my sleep and feel human again!!

The weather is terrible here too it pouring with rain and suppose to be going for coffee later with a frind hope it clears up not sure how to put the rain cove on the buggy lol!!!

Morning All,

Mummypossum - so sorry things are crap for you just now - tiredness just drags you down and makes you feel pathetic - sending cuddles for you. Hope all goes well at the hospital - can you give your LO arnica tabs to help him heal? Good for shock too - and Rescue Remedy for Mummy might be worth a try just now too!

Pmoore - it is great your Grandma is in a good hospice - touch is such an important thing when you are poorly, calms the nervous system and makes you feel cared for in a funny kind of way.

I've been going for a massage every Sunday for the past 4 weeks and it is really helping me. Felt amazing to be touched after the trauma of childbirth and it really helps the aching muscles of 'breast feeding' posture. Recommend it to all.

Gemmity - LO is 9 weeks old and usually drops off between 10-11pm and awakes at 4, 5 or 6am. After her jags she woke at 2 then 4 then 7 though!

Have hellish burning throat today so am assuming I have picked up the cold
Am hoping the weather improves here for tonight as our town has this lovely 'festive' night where all the shops stay open late, there are stalls in the street, rides for the kids, santa's grotto and you can get mince pies, mulled wine and discounts in the shops. Would really like to go this year as it is such a lovely atmosphere and I missed the last 2 years as I had to work. I don't want to take LO out in blowing gale and peeing rain though.

Rumpel · 07/12/2006 11:00

Poor Mummypossum and LO - just need to keep reminding yourself that he will thank you for it when he is older! So horrid seeing your LO in distress though. Art historian - wow - sounds interesting. DH and I went to London for our honeymoon and went goggle eyed at the museums. The British museum is amazing, however, you need about a month to fully appreciate it. Never made it past the gemstone collection in the natural history museum!
Are you watching 'Codex' on Sunday night - it is really good, although the code on Sunday didn't make sense at all, it was completely out of context with the show!

nicand2 · 07/12/2006 14:47

Haven't been on for a few days as I've been in hospital with lo for a few days. His bronchilitis got worse so he was admitted on Tuesday, it was very scary he didn't look well at all and had to have oxygen and was fed through a tube. He seems to have picked up a bit now and may come home this evening although the nurse has said he will be poorly for up to 3 weeks and have a cough for 6. The coughing fits are the worst.

Well it all coincides nicely with moving house tomorrow (not!) I've had to leave dh here with the packers all day bless him. They've loaded one van and taken that to their depot, I've just come home for a couple of hours and realised every pair of knickers I own (except the ones I'm wearing are currenly 80 miles away! and they've packed all the baby formula.

May not be logging on for a while after today as we haven't got internet connection sorted so just in case.....

Happy Christmas to all and the lo's!!

Thanks mummypossom, i'd forgotten all about the washing up liquid episode this last week feels like a year!

Gingeme · 07/12/2006 17:21

Good evening ladies. Dh is at the docs with lo now. He has thrush in his mouth! Not sure what they do for it as never seen it before. Hes doing brill on formula now and upped him to 6 oz over the weekend. He has his last bottle about 9pm then wakes at 1 and 5. Trouble is ds3 wakes about 7.15 so the stint between 5 and 7 seems non ending so I realy all you whos lo's are sleeping through. Still I keep telling myself it doesnt last forever. Hes into 3-6 month clothes now too but I still wont know how much he weighs for sure till his check up on the 12th. Well I hope your all well. Realy looking forward to our meet up next week. Take Care xxx

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 07/12/2006 17:54

Gingeme, can you persuade him to take his bottle an hour or so earlier, or to take only a small bottle at 9 and a full feed a couple of hours later? I find that if ds2 feeds at 9 then we#re up, as you say, at 1 and 5 (or thereabouts), whereas if he has his last feed at about 11 we're only up once (around 3am). That means I get another couple of hours (with any luck ) before the household gets up.

BENDYB · 08/12/2006 13:09

hi every1 can i just ask when r your periods meant to start again if your not breastfeeding???

pmoore · 08/12/2006 13:54

bendyb-mine started again at 7 weeks but I breastfed for 3 weeks. Not sure if that will make a difference.

Rumpel · 08/12/2006 14:10

Hi All,

Gingeme and Nicand2 - hope your Lo's are feeling better.

BendyB - Doc said about 5 months if you are BFing, think if you aren't you can start straight back into a normal cycle - suppose it is differnt for everyone. I am feeding half and half now and the HV said my period might come sooner now because of this.

Weather was okay last night so we went out for the festive night - was mobbed though and people are so rude when you have a pram aren't they? I had to go onto the road a few times as folk wouldn't make way - ended up running over people's feet willy nilly and just saying 'oh sorry'! Serves them right for being ignorant - must be a total nightmare for folk in wheelchairs.

Not long until Christmas now - how exciting.
Are you all prepared - exciting for us with new LO's - have you all bought them pressies or are you not bothering 'cos they are so young? I've just bought A a stocking, which she can keep, and a few wee pressies to put in it.

youngmum21 · 08/12/2006 14:25

hi bendy,

Well i had bleeding for 3 weeks then as soon as tat has stopped i got my period the next day i thought i had an infection as the bleeding had started but it wasnt
