majormoo, my obstetrician said he wasn't worried unless the bleeding was still continuing at the 6 wk chk. 3 wks on from birth and am still bleeding. apparently no longer have a prob with infection/uterus not contracting. if the bleeding gets heavier and is bright red plus u pass clots that are as big as 50pence piece then you need to worry.

PrettyCandles · 15/11/2006 19:07

If you overdo things physically the bleedig can start up again. I had stopped by 3w, but after a couple of bleed-free days I had two very active very stressful days when I was on my feet for about 4h non-stop on each day, and so stressed by various things that I cried several times. On the third day my bleeding started again.

Your body's telling you to ease up and remember that you are still recovering from the birth.

Will have to put a birth anouncement on and tell my birth story soon!! x

BENDYB · 16/11/2006 13:28

i have still gotta do a birth announcment aswell!
how did u find it though? i was expecting it 2 b a lot worse than it was!
kai is so good at nights, he normally only wakes up once but last night he slept all night!from 11pm till 7.45am! i couldn't believe it!

nicand2 · 16/11/2006 14:14

BENDYB- what's your secret??? I woul kill for lo to sleep between those hours. last night lo didn't settle after 10pm feed and was crying til 2am thrn slept u until 5am. I'vejust been to the hair dressers and had to struggle to keep my eyes open

totallyfloaty35 · 16/11/2006 14:54

Hi ladies,Had Lexie weighed today and she now 9lb13oz.She has outgrown loads of her clothes, some of which she didnt even get to wear she is still sleeping through the night, usually midnight til 7;30,i think her being in the Amby baby nest has helped as she has basically slept through apart from the odd night since she was 5 days old.She does feed for hours every evening though, she must be stocking up to get through,it made me sore actually as she keep pulling on my nipple and then reattaching badly, made my eyes water.
DH has come back from work with Michael Jacksons World Music Award,i will have to stick it on ebay,it must be worth something and anyway i need cash to buy more baby clothes

nicand2 · 16/11/2006 15:26

Totally- Out of interest how much is your lo sleeping during the day? I'm wondering if my lo is getting too much during the day so isn't tired at night

PrettyCandles · 16/11/2006 15:44

I think that at thisage they're still spending so many hours asleep out of the 24 that it doesn't make much difference when they sleep. It's when they start being awake cosistently and really take notice of the world that you need te ensure that their wawke periods are during the day. Somewhen in the second month, maybe.

totallyfloaty35 · 16/11/2006 15:55

Lex sleeps from 9-11am,and then about 1-3pm and again for about 3-4 hrs between 5pm and midnight,if im lucky she does her evening nap in 2 big blocks but recently its been feed 30 mins sleep 30 mins, scream if removed from mums lap or boob, repeat til midnight.
So i sleep at night but dont get much done during the day as she can easily decide to forgo a daytime nap if i attempt to eat, have a bath or try to clean the house.I envy all you ladies who have managed to get to the hairdressers,i look like a greying baglady these days

emzickle · 16/11/2006 16:03

hi all, i fell down the stairs this morning with LO in my arms, ive really messed by back up in the "OH GOD SAVE THE CHILD" way that i fell, so she was completely fine, i can barely walk though.

does any one use a bed side cot? i want to buy one tonight or tomorow online - as i have the money now and want to buy one whilst i do, plus i love co sleeping with her, but im not sleeping properly with her so close to me, so could do with the cot asap...

any one?

PrettyCandles · 16/11/2006 17:16

I used a bedside cot with my other LOs, and will do so for this one, too. They're great! It's so nice to be able to sleep with the baby, yet have complete freedom to roll around the bed, yank the quilt up, etc. Mine is the sort that has the dropside go up-and-over to get rid of it, rather than under. One advantage of my one is that the base is attached to the fixed side, so you never have to drop the base as the child becomes more mobile - the sides are always high enough for it to be safe for the child to stand. This means that, as the baby grows older and heavier, you don't need to break your back reaching down to almost frloor level every time you put the baby in or pick them up. Particularly helpful during the many hours spent stroking, patting, soothing to sleep! Even more helpful when your're pregnant again!

Swizzler · 16/11/2006 18:29

Emzickle: hope you're OK, falling with the baby sounds a nightmare!

Youngmum: if your LO is suffering from wind try Infacol - we've started using it in the evenings and it does seem to help. Also seems to help with W's sleep.

Re naps, be careful about making your LO keep awake during the day: if W doesn't get a couple of daytime naps he is hellish at night and won't settle at all cos he's overtired. I read the No Cry Sleep Solution which has some helpful stuff on newborns and the need for regular naps to ensure peaceful nights

Went to the parent and baby screening today - cheerful Ozzie film about death - but good to get out of the house and to a cinema. Would really recommend if your cinema does them as you don't have to stress about your baby crying during the film.

Re bfing, it can take a few days for milk to come in but you will know as your norks will swell to ginormous proportions and (if you're like me) will spray everywhere. Also you'll feel crap - it's hormones, not you or the baby

catgirl · 16/11/2006 18:53

swizzler- which cinema did you go to?

emzickle - hope you are ok - take it easy

feel really brave - I breast fed in the science museum cafe today - with other people around - a big step for me! wasn't brave enough to do it on the tube, so got a bottle out for that feed!

hope everyone else is ok - just had time to skim the thread.

a question to those breast feeding: when did sore boobs (if you suffered from them) stop being sore and was there a point when it all just 'clicked'??

Swizzler · 16/11/2006 19:20

Catgirl: Dalston Rio. The next one is Tues 21st - The Prestige (sounds like another cheerful film but might still go . I missed the History Boys which I'm annoyed by. You can park the buggy inside the cinema or take it into the theatre. £5.50 for an adult plus baby.

Re bfing, my sipples have started hurting again - think DS is getting lazy about latching on. Well done for bfing at the Science Museum

Swizzler · 16/11/2006 19:21

nipples I mean

emzickle · 16/11/2006 20:42

Thanks taffy 4 doin the list!

Yeah youngmum try infacol, as swizzler said, We've been using that 2 & It does seem 2 help a lot.

catgirl · 16/11/2006 22:10

swizzler - might see you there on the 21st then - is Prestige the one with Michael Caine?? You are so much more together, and confident, than I was with my first - I said I would make it to the Rio and never did!

re night time nursing bras - I got a great one from John Lewis - Emma Jane sleep bra - looks like a sports bra, but it is light weight cotton with no clips or other uncomfy bits - and only cots £7!

have ds2's hearing test tomorrow - guess others have had this?

Wish me luck in now moving a sleeping ds2 from the living room to his basket in my room without waking him... what are the chances...

Gemmitygem · 17/11/2006 07:08

morning everyone,

youngmum21, if you post on the 'breast and bottlefeeding' section you will probably get some good tips on b feeding.. I'm a first time mum too, it's working Ok for me, so my top tips would be: (based on the last 5 weeks!

  1. Try to relax and don't worry if it doesn't work straight away, and try to stay relaxed when feeding
  1. give yourself big meals and plenty of rest to get the milk going
  1. get the baby comfortably propped against you, bring the baby to the breast not the breast to the baby. on a cushion is good. Also try and make sure their head is a bit higher than their bum, just to avoid indigestion
  1. Encourage the baby to open wide and get not just the tip of the nipple in, but the 'teat' bit plus as much as possible of the nipple below it (not above it). I find I can just open the baby's mouth and kind of shove it on when it happens to be open a bit wider. It might hurt when s/he first latches on but shouldn't be a sharp pain while he or she is feeding, if so it means the mouth isn't wide enough. If you need to get the baby off you, just gently pull the side of her mouth with your finger to break the vacuum.
  1. let the baby find its own position with its head, but support the head
  1. don't burp the baby too much, just every 10 mins or so or after the feed
  1. Be kind to yourself: it's not easy at first but worth persevering, I can even read a book while doing it now!

best of luck with it all anyway..

Well my LO is now firmly and happily on the forbidden to mention routine. So looking forward to him starting to go later and later in the night, but no sign of it yet. Fed at 10.30 pm, he wakes again always at 3 am and then again at 7. how are others getting on and is anyone getting LO to go longer?

PrettyCandles · 17/11/2006 10:09

That's the one, Emziclke, but I'm not sure it's still called that.

Can't believe I read your post and didn't notice your fall! How's your back now? Heroine mummy!

Good morning Mummys. Well been struggling a bit with the bfeeding lo seems to have been attached for the past 24hrs. Mw coming at 11 today and if she says he hasnt put any weight on im gonna start feeding him cheese. Ds3 has realy been playing up too. Went to my friends yesterday and he purposly stood and poohed his pants while I was feeding lo . He wet himself on the way home too. Gonna invest in a breast pump next week so Ican have some more quality time with him.
emzickle hope your on the mend soon.
Thanks for doing the list taffy1. Wow a few whoppers there.
