aww zing that's shit - hope you're better soon I had to pump and dump when I was in hospital and cried like a baby when they told me. I have breastfeeding pics too. is baby in with you?

If you're still in pain they can probably give you more pain relief so ask - when I had my surgery years ago they put me on oral morphine after coming off the iv morphine but it didn't quite do it and a doctor later explained that sometimes you need a selection of different pain relief to cover the different levels of pain so then put me on paracetamol and tramadol.

ZingOfSeven · 30/08/2014 05:14

Elijah is home.
I couldn't look after him.
giggling old bird has started shouting "Arleene, help, please!" a few hours ago and not stopped.
She is also quite insistent that Claire's mother is here. no idea who Arleene or Claire are..
I feel sorry for her but it stresses me out a lot, makes me jump and I can't sleep.
just had another morphine shot - made no difference

ZingOfSeven · 30/08/2014 05:26

Auntie
it helps that I made the decision to pump & dump as soon as they uttered the word "morphine".
small consolation, but being just that much in charge makes me able to hold it together.
it also "helps" that I'm too exhausted and in too much pain to cry [wry smile]

I was hoping for a good night sleep. I didn't consider ill people making a lot of noise coz of being in pain.
how insensitive are they?!Wink Grin

snow
I asked for one but all hosp pumps are used on postnatal ward.
we live 10 mins away from hospital so DH popped home to get mine.
I'm using the manual one as he didn't bring batteries for electric pump (too far for adapter cord to reach from wall to bed. could swing bed round but I can't be bothered)

got more IV paracetamol which has reduced pain.
(Arleene is just not coming. I've given up hope of sleeping)

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 30/08/2014 06:02

Aw zing that's rubbish. Glad the IV has helped with the pain. Hope you're out of there and feeling better soon.

AuntieMaggie · 30/08/2014 06:29

You don't get entertainment like that on postnatal wards Grin if you're still there tonight ask for some ear plugs/cotton wool and something to help you sleep. As long as you're having a break from breastfeeding you may as well take what you can as long as it doesn't affect your supply. And the more rest you get the quicker you'll recover. Make the most of the 'perks' of being in hospital - drugs on demand, being fed (hopefully the food isn't too bad) and being able to get plenty of rest (which I don't expect you get very often in your house).

Would a hot water bottle help with the pain?

ZingOfSeven · 30/08/2014 08:18

plenty of rest? ha! the cackling/shouting lady kept me up all night.
I've literally had about an hour sleep.

I'm trying to pump and this bloke starts pulling away the curtains, to change the water.
ffs.
I feel so stressed I think milk is going upstream...I really want to go home. Sad

icklekid · 30/08/2014 08:38

Oh zing sounds horrible Sad at least you can catch up on thread...no really not much use am I! Will be praying for you to recover quickly. Well done for continuing to pump hopefully even if you have to combination feed you will be able to breastfeed when you get home. Definitely try and get dh to bring you wax ear plugs.

So ds didn't sleep much from 3am onwards is currently head down snoring into my tummy! I've told dh I'm not planning on getting up until he wakes!

ZingOfSeven · 30/08/2014 09:09

Don't want to monopolise thread but consultant just seen me.
ordered a bunch of painkillers (tramadol, pethidine) but no morphine as it didn't work and nakes sphincter contract causing more pain.
I hope they hurry up I can barely breathe again

urgent ultrasound scan ordered also, if no luck then CT.
op on Monday at a different hospital if it is gallstones (laprascopy)/biliary obstruction due to gallstones.
he listed a whole other things it could be and was concerned about the shivers I had.

I am literally this colour Smile

I'll update when I can. time to chew on my hand until my Painkiller Cocktail gets here

lemonpoppyseed · 30/08/2014 09:38

Zing - nothing useful to add I'm afraid. Am thinking of you, and hope today brings some answers (and proper pain relief).

GrouchyKiwi · 30/08/2014 10:23

Oh Zing, what a rough time. I hope it's something that's easy to fix. Hope the new painkillers help, and Arlene turns up so you can get some sleep. Praying for you

Plateofcrumbs · 30/08/2014 10:45

zing you are quite an inspiration for soldiering on despite everything life is throwing at you. I was really down about my BFing difficulties yesterday but they are insignificant compared to what you are going through. So you've made me realise I just have to (wo)man up and get on with it.

Unmumsnetty hugs to you Thanks

elliejjtiny · 30/08/2014 11:59

(((hugs))) Zing. Get your DH to bring in photos of Elijah and something that smells of him like his blanket or babygrow. That helped me a lot when I was pumping for DS4 and DS5. You sound very similar to how I was after DS5's birth. This is me, the day after DS5 was born, looking like death with nicu nurse standing next to me ready to catch DS5 if I dropped him because I was so wobbly from all the painkillers and tiredness. I really hope they find out what's wrong and sort it out quickly.

JULY 2014 - WE HAVE BABIES
AuntieMaggie · 30/08/2014 14:10

ellie does the photo and smell thing really work? I think that's a lovely pic. I have no pics from when ds was first born as I looked so ill/forgot to take any... DP has a lovely one of his dad with ds that makes me sad/cross as he didn't think to take one of me :(

ZingOfSeven · 30/08/2014 17:33

Thank you so much for hugs!
I'm expressing with the electric pump which is soooo easy & not at all stressful . and it's going surprisingly well I have pumped 1.5 oz in 10 mins (one side) which is a brilliant amount for me considering circumstances.

had scan, it is gallstones and loads of them. the screen looked like the Quarry in Thomas the Tankengine!Grin

so far surgeon's been busy, so no confirmation of next step. I assume we are going with one procedure to break up/remove stones, then keyhole surgery to remove gallbladder.
I think that's what he said before scan - but I don't know.. I was in excruciating pain.

much better now, my Drug Cocktails did/are doing their job.

I have photos of Elijah on phone but I think looking at him would make me too emotional.

Old Cackle went home. thank goodness. fx for a good night's sleep, I really need it.

I'm feeling a bit dizzy now so will try and snooze.

NancyinCali · 30/08/2014 17:36

So relieved for you that you have a diagnosis, pain relief is better, that pumping is going well and that Mrs Cackle went home. Hope you get a good rest! Sending healing thoughts xx

icklekid · 30/08/2014 18:52

Good news as Nancy says at least you know and great job on the pumping hope it continues well. Also pleased your not in pain anymore! Right dh took ds for a walk to sleep just heard them get back def awake!

MrsNutella · 30/08/2014 22:09

Zing I've had gallstones and jaundice. It was interesting... And bloody painful! FX for a quick remedy. Because the NHS can be so efficient I only waited almost a year for an operation Hmm
Well done on the pumping!! Hope they whip those gallstones out ASAP for you!

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 31/08/2014 14:06

Zing it sounds awful what you are going through, but at least you have a diagnosis. Pumping and dumping doesn't sound like fun either. I hope you got a good nights sleep. Has Elijah got on ok with formula? DH had a terrible day with DS when I had day surgery and he went from breast milk to formula cold turkey.

I was worried that I might end up in hospital with my breast lump but fortunately the ultrasound showed that it is not an abscess and just a fluid filled lump. I see the gyn in 10 days so I will discuss what to do. I suspect I will have to wait until I have stopped breast feeding and see if it goes on its own or if it will need draining. I'm guessing that it is a blockage that is related to my abscess 3 years ago. Anyway, it is painless so no particular issues with waiting to get it sorted out.

I've got lots more to say but will post this now. DD is asleep and I am going to try and put her down so that I can sleep!

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 31/08/2014 14:26

Nope. That didn't work. DD feeding again...

Anyway, continuing where I left off, I've not posted for a few days because I was on holiday with no 3G on my phone and no wifi.

DD was amazing. She slept really well in the car, pushchair and at night. She hated the sling (fortunately had it for DS already). DH won't wear it Biscuit and DD was frustrated on me that she wasn't being fed even though she didn't need to be fed. Dad slept entirely through her first visit to the zoo!

I woke up with a tummy bug this morning that DH and DS already had on holiday. It was no fun driving home for 4 hours this morning feeling sick. I haven't been sick yet but that has been helped by a self imposed nil by mouth until I got home. I'm feeling pretty dreadful at the moment (better than Zing is though I'm sure) and could really do with DD letting me sleep. I don't feel up to taking her out in the pushchair at the moment and I want to let DH sleep while he can.

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 31/08/2014 14:26

DD not Dad slept through zoo visit!

elliejjtiny · 31/08/2014 17:03

Thanks Maggie. I've only got 2 photos of DS1 on the day he was born and I'm in neither of them so I nagged DH to take loads of the others.

Sounds like good news Zing. Hope they can sort you out soon so you can get home to your gorgeous brood.

BlueC2 · 31/08/2014 22:58

Trying this as a test post as just realised/noticed that none of my previous messages have actually posted since this new format started :(

Must say zing hope you have a better night and get your op ASAP!

Right, will be back later (during night feed) if this works- right now I need to sleep once DD settled after this feed.

icklekid · 01/09/2014 08:49

Glad the post worked this time blue

foxtrot glad dd was so well behaved especially in car! I managed to persuade dh to wear sling at the weekend however don't think he will be wearing it out yet!

zing still thinking of you and hoping things are improving slowly but surely! Or even speedily!
