Check in here. Do we still need the stats?

I second that. DD was a very "needy" baby. Not fussy as such but literally could not be put down. She is now far more independent and secure than many three year olds. Her teachers all comment on how independent and happy she is, while for other children there are still tears at drop off etc.

Sparkeleigh · 23/11/2013 17:07

Hi all, finally caught up on the thread!

I can't remember half if what I've read tho, so just a couple of things people might find useful...

Tongue tie - I started a thread on this in bottle and breastfeeding. DH thought getting it snipped was barbaric, but he's come round having read all the responses. Hope it's useful to anyone who's considering getting it done..

Nappy rash - we had to take N to the Dr at 8 days old because it was so bad. We were prescribed timodine (sp?) to use twice a day for 3 days and metatanium, but we only saw an improvement when the midwife suggested we use liquid paraffin to clean him instead of water and to apply cannesten (the red one) at every nappy change until it cleared up. It did in a couple of days after that and it was red raw before Sad I swear by liquid paraffin now, you don't have to dry it off after a change and makes night time changes do much quicker. It also cleared up his baby acne.

Question about boob pain - one of mine is feeling tender and bruised. Did mastitis start like that for anyone?

ImpOfDarkness · 23/11/2013 19:43

Going back upthread, very similar situation re second baby here whistlingdixie. Ideally I'd like to but had fertility treatment to get F and age is against us, I'm 39. I'm not sure I can face going through all the treatment again.

Haylebop12 · 23/11/2013 21:54

Have you got a link spark ill show dh although I think he's ok with it now or being ok with it because he knows its what I want/need to make this a success.

Haylebop12 · 23/11/2013 21:56

spark forgot to say, bruised/tender is probably just a blocked duct. What worked for me was keeping breasts empty (as much as you can) and warm flannel/warm showers. Untreated can turn into mastitis x

OrangeBlossom2 · 23/11/2013 21:59

Natalie shared a link about the angelcare monitors on fb. Although they don't need to recall/repair in uk they we offering a repair kit which is a cover for the wire on their website. I've ordered one to be sure.

link

OrangeBlossom2 · 23/11/2013 22:05

Sorry it was untitled not Nat.

Natalieand · 23/11/2013 22:06

It was me orange :-) xxx

roxvox · 23/11/2013 22:51

Thanks for the link orange, I have just sent them an email. Whilst I think I've got ours pretty well set up (have got the wire coming from the sensor pad wrapped around the legs of the cot so it's not at all loose on baby side), I would always worry knowing what has happened to those poor families in America.

It was posted twice on Facebook I think, so perhaps it was both untitled and natalieand Smile

Fingers crossed for you to all have a better nights sleep tonight. A is still incredibly fussy, and now I am starting to worry if we actually haven't started on the growth spurt yet and perhaps this is all just a result of me being on antibiotics for mastitis. Fingers crossed it's the growth spurt though!

emmoB13 · 23/11/2013 23:14

To ff or mixed feeders - I am using tommee tippee bottles with the number 1 teats at the moment. H is 8 weeks now and his feeding is slowing down, he rarely finishes a bottle like he used to and is falling asleep on the bottle a lot. Is it worth me trying out vari flow or medium teats? Any experience? Thanks!

ananikifo · 24/11/2013 00:48

sparkleigh where do you get liquid paraffin? How do you use it?.

slippy I've had eczema for years, and expect myself to react to pretty much anything in my environment with itchiness. For a few weeks after the birth, my stretch marks used to be crazy itchy. I'm not sure why. I think it's a combination of the skin healing and a prickly heat rash that I had all over my body at the time. I think the hormonal changes after birth made the inflammation worse for all my skin problems. I was afraid to use steroid creams because it was such a large area that was affected and I didn't want them to rub off on the baby. Things have calmed down now on their own.

Today was J's christening. It was a special day and I'm really happy with how it went. Last night he came down with a cold. Since this morning he's been quieter than usual. I fed him just before the christening and used saline spray to clean his nose. He then slept through the whole thing, including having water poured on his head, and the whole reception where he got passed from one family member to another. During the ceremony I discretely checked that he was still breathing! He didn't cry until I changed him out of his outfit five hours later. It's obvious to me that the poor little man wasn't well but I'm glad everyone got a cuddle and the whole day went to plan.

Flyer747 · 24/11/2013 00:53

Glad the christening went well ana, I hope j is over his cold soon poor mite.

Dp went out today to watch football came home drunk looking to start a row, he's been awful and said some really nasty things to me Hmm I'm sat in the spare room crying contemplating whether to stay or leave.

Shootingstarsandcomets · 24/11/2013 01:54

flyer that's awful. Are you ok? Thanks
Glad you had a good day ana. I haven't even thought about b's christening yet, you are super organised!
I'm starting to worry he may have developed silent reflux...... Can that happen? Can they develop it? He's arching his back and only taking 2oz of milk at a time and crying out during feeding. Am wondering if a comfort formula would be better or gaviscon?

chickieno1 · 24/11/2013 02:08

Ana glad the christening went well. Hope J feels better soon

Flyer hope you're ok. Sorry your dp has upset you. Hope he ll realise what he's said/done is not on. He ll have to make it up to you when he's sober. Flowers

xuntitledx · 24/11/2013 02:41

flyer - hope everything is okay Thanks

roxvox · 24/11/2013 02:45

flyer I hope you're ok? I detest drunk abusiveness. I don't understand why some people get like it (I have close family members who are prime examples). I hope that, regardless of whether you chose to stay there or go elsewhere, that you wake up to a very apologetic DH. Thanks

Sephy · 24/11/2013 03:03

Hope you're alright Flyer, and congratulations ana on a successful christening.

Readyasilleverbe · 24/11/2013 03:47

Flyer really hope you're ok and getting some rest and that your dp has got a grip of himself and things look better in the light of a new day in the morning. Big hugs. Stupid men. Xxxxxx

JellyCurls · 24/11/2013 03:49

Thanks flyer I hope your ok

Emmo we are ff and use Tommee Tippee bottles. We switched to variflow teats when baby was 3 weeks old cause he was falling asleep with the size 1's. Doesn't actually answer your question but thought I'd let you know.

DH and I had a date night tonight, was lovely to get out for a few hours but oh my, the music was awful. Slightly better than the nachos DH ordered but too much like my school discos in early 90's for my liking. Sitting here with Pump up the Jam going round my head Hmm

Mnippy · 24/11/2013 04:02

Flyer - also hoping that you wake up to a massively apologetic DP. He has to up his behaviour it support you and to provide a good role model for baby.

Lots of small problems in the Mnippy household incl bad pain in my wrists. Eugh.

roofio87 · 24/11/2013 04:35

flyer bloody men!! and bloody derby day!! I had to take H away from the screaming fans in my house yesterday. hope he mans up and apologises today. Thanks

emmo I have been using number 2 medium flow teats from the start after the hv recommended them because H was being such a slow feeder so they definitely don't have to be 3 months+ for them. I was using tommee tippee but switched to dr browns this week and he's drinking so much better now, always having his 5oz in one go, sometimes with a burp in the middle. much better imo.

OrangeBlossom2 · 24/11/2013 04:42

Thanks flyer.

MrsHoratioNelson · 24/11/2013 05:09

Thanks Flyer

Another one with an idiot for a husband here. He's been treated to a taste of my week with a Velcro baby and complained non stop about it. He spends a lot of time saying "he'll just have to cry for a minute because of x y z"

Then he took C after the 8:15 feed so I could go to bed. He came in at 10:30 as C was asleep, fair enough, but when C woke again shortly afterwards he stormed off with the basket - and finally reappeared at 3am! I had fallen asleep again but poor little C hasn't eaten for all that time :( Angry

emmoB13 · 24/11/2013 05:35

Thanks for the advice guys, think we will change teats today.
Glad the christening went well Ana :)
I'm sorry flyer, I hope your dp is very apologetic! I hate how nasty alcohol can make some people - I hope your ok. Not what u need right now!

roofio87 · 24/11/2013 08:32

mrsh don't worry, I'm sure if he had been really hungry he'd habe screamed the place down and ur dh would have brought him back sooner. my dp does the same, gets annoyed when H won't settle and wakes again after two mins. I don't think they have our motherly patience!

I had a nice night last night, my friends really have been so wonderful since I had H. we're all 26/27 and I'm the only one with a baby which I think helps as they have made such an effort to always come see us. they live the other side of the city to me, about a half hour drive, but have been over in different combinations at least a couple of times a week. if its tea time they always bring food, cook it for me and themselves and make sure they've cleaned up after. not to mention absolutely doting on H. its made me realise what great friends they are. I really thought we might drift apart when I had a baby, but not at all!! going on a big night out with all my girls next Saturday, I can't wait!!!!
