Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Blimey! M got weighed and measured this morning, he's 7 weeks tomorrow nad weighs 5.86 kgs and is 56.5 cms long. The HV claimed he was "nicely in proportion", so that's good. She did his head circumference too, which was bang on average.

Had to take DS1 with me too, who also wanted weighing and measuring (and got a sticker for being good...). For reference, he's 3y5m, 101cms tall and 15.8 kgs :o

DontmindifIdo · 03/07/2013 13:59

Ah, I've found you again!

PILs and fully equiped nurseries - yep, mine did that when I had DS. He's stayed over 3 times in his 3.5 years, that includes the night I had DD! It's such a waste of money, but let them do it and smiled nicely. Some people do hand over their DCs at every given opportunity, and some from what I consider to be far too young (how could anyone cope with being parted for a whole night from their DC at this stage? It wouldn't be a nice thing at all.)

Arlandria - if your exclusively breastfeeding and on demand, then you do'nt need to add water in. DD fed every hour on the weekend, I think it was just the heat, I was drinking tonnes of water too so I guess she was thirsty.

Sooo, anyone else trying to stop themselves having unrealistic body recovery plans? DD is 4 weeks old, and I'm annoyed I'm still looking 5 months pregnant. I know it'll be at least another couple of weeks before swelling goes down and I can see what the actual weight gain damage is, but it's still annoying me. I think I was so ill after having DS, I did'nt feel this good and being out and about until he was more like 8 weeks old, by which point I was looking a bit more normal (fat but not swollen if that makes sense), it's giving me an unrealistic view of what I should be looking like.

DontmindifIdo · 03/07/2013 14:01

MrsBri - could you manage your MIL by having a date inthe diary for them next to see Amy? So maybe agree with your DP you'll go round on Sunday afternoon and send her a message saying that, it'll at least keep her off your back between now and then....

pinkbear82 · 03/07/2013 14:06

rue I love that you had both weighed and measured! only right I'd bubs was getting it done - guess maybe you and hv were lucky you didn't get the same treatment Wink

learner I was off work for a week ~ in a job where I sit down all day being able to do so comfortably was quite important.
I'm happy to admit I don't ever do things the easy way so I may be a one off case.

Steffanoid · 03/07/2013 14:17

why on my first day properly alone is it I get a pounding headache and Ethan decides to have an awake day with approx 100 nappies and constant feeding? I can't wait till dp finishes work at 4 so I can go for a wee with tge door closed Grin

pinkbear82 · 03/07/2013 14:42

steff you have my sympathies ~ Violet is very windy today and does not want to be put down. it's amazing what you learn to do one handed!

hawk hope you are feeling a bit better today.

aim I hope you're enjoy snuggles and that everything has gone well.

I'm sure Violet's first words are going to be related to our dog!
no dog, down dog, leave it Dog, and if we're unlucky, bloody dog! poor girl.

Steffanoid · 03/07/2013 14:59

pink that seems to be all im saying "alfie stop looking in the Moses basket, alfie leave him, alfie get down" alfie is currently lying on the sofa staring at said Moses basket, he's obsessed

DontmindifIdo · 03/07/2013 15:48

pink - you need a sling!

arlandria666 · 03/07/2013 15:48

Steff and Pink I am with you both on the dog thing!! Elliott's first word will more than likely be Meg no lol!
Don'tmind haven't given any water my friend was adamant I should I knew I had heard otherwise xx

pinkbear82 · 03/07/2013 16:28

don'tmind I was looking at some earlier ~ mind field! I have a carrier thing a friend lent me but she seems very wobbly in it.

dog ladies - it's going to be 'no Marvin' here!! I have put him out the back now after he spent 30 mins chasing a fly around the front room!

MrsBri · 03/07/2013 16:45

Very amusing re your dogs!

We've just been out for the first time since coming home. Only a stroll around the block, but I feel good for it.

Dontmind, I think I'll do they with the inlaws, thank you. :-)

curlyclaz13 · 03/07/2013 16:48

It's the cat's causing issues here, they use me feeding oscar as an excuse to do things like sit on the dining table or on his play mat then ignore me going no flump, get off idgie !
I have a stretchy sling (hug a bub) and it is great. I think it is the same as a moby ? I bought it off a friend so not 100% on that. Oscar loves being in it and leaves me hands free. Bit scared bending down with him in it even though I know he is secure.

learnermummy · 03/07/2013 16:49

Curly I did go to gp yesterday and have suppositories but its actually got more painful since so think may need to go back. Am taking lactulose too but am afraid of going today it's so sore already Hmm. Pinkbear I don't like the sound of banding!

pinkbear82 · 03/07/2013 17:12

we'll done mrsbri round the block is a good start!

learner after the week it was much better! honest. fingers crossed it won't come to that!!

our cat just carries on as normal! ginger ninja never returned and I wonder what he would have made of it all! but t'other one is very good. she prefers the baby to the dog!!

SunnyL · 03/07/2013 18:05

Erm on the size front, Lily was 56cm at birth. On the chart the HV gave us she is over the 100 percentile spot. Weight wise she was 70th oercentile so while she is tall she wont be a heifer. Her feet and hands are also huge though. Reckon she'll have to be a swimmer with this physique. she'll probably tower over me at age 10 as I'm 5ft5.

My pooch is just getting 'sorry Tally' all the time as I can't get out for walks as quickly as we used to, or play fetch with her so easily (baby regularly has a giraffe ceremoniously dumped on her head). Dog does like the swingy chair though - has been giving bubs an extra push or two in it.

rrreow · 03/07/2013 18:42

DS1s first word (and only word for nearly a year!) was the name of our cat Grin

MrsBri · 03/07/2013 19:23

They don't measure babies when they're born here, sadly :-/ Amy isn't short though! She also didn't look like she weighed as much as she did. Deceptively heavy!

Sarah2506 · 03/07/2013 19:59

Does anyone find the size of baby clothes really bloody annoying?! 0-3 in one shop is another shops new born and somewhere else's 3-6. And unlike us the babies can hardly try them on first. Grr. Polly has crazy long legs and is busting out of 0-3 already.

Olimoss · 03/07/2013 20:40

Sarah - yes, and I have a heap of clothes from Oz as well and there it's all 0000, 000, 00 and 0.....! There are some things Joe isnt going to get to wear, mostly the twee things with 'daddy's boy' and little appliqué animals type logos. Can't bear it! Will be sending them off with the Health Visitor to be donated to vulnerable families through social services.

Speaking of, the HV visited today and and J is now 4.5kg, having put on another 500g in the last ten days. He's eating so much but is somehow still a longish, tidy-looking baby rather thana fatty boombalada. Wonder if/when he will explode!

He's five weeks old today, has been home nearly three weeks. Feels weird that such a short amount of time can also seem like forever. I can definitely see a change in his face and his strength in holding his head up, co-ordination, etc. I'd now like him to begin giving back a little - a smile would be nice!

learnermummy · 03/07/2013 21:35

My dinky little one is still too small for 0-3 clothes! Had to buy some more newborn stuff today!
