Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Good luck AmI! Can't wait to hear your news :)

Steffanoid · 02/07/2013 19:05

we're in a bit of a conundrum with our local groups, we moved from a to b 5 months ago, im still registered at the docs in a and thats where the hcv comes from incidentally a cow I went to school with! my sister goes to the group in a so I dont really want to go there, I feel I've always lived in her shadow, the hcv is posting me details of the ones in b but who knows how long that could take to get here and I dont know tge town well enough to know where it is, hopefully it will be good though

pinkbear82 · 02/07/2013 19:47

ami I'll do the leg crossing for you if you like?! Wink best of luck for tomorrow and fingers crossed you're one of the first!

well done mrsbri be firm and I'm sure Dh wants you and Amy happy as his main priority.

just had a try out session with the breast pump and managed 1oz in about 15min. don't know how you ladies manage it! not sure if I'll get bored of it Confused

Steffanoid · 02/07/2013 20:16

pink thats so food, is that after a feed? after Ethan has fed dp will give him tge bottle and im lucky to get 10ml off in 20 mins!
ami I hope you're eating some good food, it's 2 for Tuesday at dominos Wink

Sarah2506 · 02/07/2013 20:21

steff are there any children's centres near you? Should be more than just one group to choose from.

pink pumping is easier earlier in the day. I do it just after the morning feed from the other boob:-)

Steffanoid · 02/07/2013 20:46

thats the info my hcv is posting out I think theres a sure start centre about half an hour away
I need to take him down to the library as well cause they do rhyme time

tomorrow is my first proper day by myself, today and yesterday my mum came over for lunch , my aim for the day is to walk to the shop which shouldn't be too hard

pinkbear82 · 02/07/2013 21:01

That's reassured me a bit. Will try again in the morning and see how it goes. We have a wedding to go to on Saturday and I don't mind feeding in front of strangers but the dress I brought is a halter neck.... Brain wasn't quite in gear obviously, and perhaps having a few bottles of expressed milk to offer would be handy.
Plus would love the late evening feed to be a daddy feed. We'll see!

arlandria666 · 02/07/2013 21:08

just caught up on this thread lovely to hear about the little ones coming along :)
mrsbri your inlaws sound horrendous!!
pink that's good going with expressing I remember being in tears after 45 mins and not even having 20ml when I had to cup feed (which doesn't even seem real now!)
think Elliott is having a growth spurt (he will be 6 weeks this Thursday do they have one anytime now?) either way he is feeding like he has never been fed!!

RueDeWakening · 02/07/2013 23:11

Growth spurt at 6 weeks, arlandria, so yes! We've just come off the back of that one winces at sore nips again

arlandria666 · 02/07/2013 23:49

Just when things seem to be settling a growth spurt pops along to remind you just how tough it can be!!
just wanted to check something out, a friend was round today while Elliott was in mammoth feed mode and told me to give him water,I didn't think you gave breast fed babies anything else?

AlohaMama · 03/07/2013 00:56

ooh good luck tomorrow AmI

for those expressing, or having supply issues, when I had lack of supply with ds I took fenugreek capsules which really helped. I'd also express after feeding in the morning (apparently morning is when you have most supply!) and kept that milk to try and stimulate extra production. I think at one point I may have adding in an extra pumping session but I think at that stage my low supply was partly because ds fed fairly infrequently. Also ditto what someone said (on the other thread?) about being relaxed, looking at baby, etc etc. And having a very good breast pump.

Had a success today. Went to the beach this morning with toddler and baby and it was good. Met a friend with her baby & toddler which helped as 2 sets of eyes to watch the boys. The hardest part was just the logistics of getting from car to beach with all the paraphernalia and then rounding up the toddlers to get back again. Was a welcome 'break' after a particularly trying morning with ds acting up a lot (ignoring us, in everything, throwing and hitting). Hoping I have sufficiently exhausted him that he'll take an extra long nap this afternoon!!

Steffanoid · 03/07/2013 02:16

arlandria, yiu aren't supposed to give them anything other than milk until you wean them, the only exception to this is if they're constipated then a little cool boiled water can help

Olimoss · 03/07/2013 03:11

Arlandria - Joe is combi-fed and so can and does have some cooled, boiled water, particularly when he's looking like constipation might be nigh (had a couple of bad nights with it recently).

Also will be offering it to him when weather is hot but I do understand that this is fine for combi- or formula-fed babies in a way it isn't for bf ones.

J has had a persistent mucky left eye since he came home. It clears for a day but always comes back. Tried saline and boobjuice - neither seem to shift it. Ideas?!

I love my husband. Correctly identifying that I was so tired madness would surely follow he key me sleep from ten till now keeping the small girl going with all the expressed milk in the fridge. Glossing over the fact that I now have no expressed milk back up and will need to pump- which I shall do in front of Wimbledon- I am so grateful. And must have been pretty sodding knackered to sleep through two feeds and a couple of changes. I've sent him to the spare room now as he has work tomorrow. Good lad.

SunnyL · 03/07/2013 06:00

It really makes a difference doesnt it Sarah? DH is day off today and did the 3am feed for me. I slept through from 11am til now and feel like a new woman. The only downside is my pj top is soaked through with milk!

AmIGoingMad · 03/07/2013 06:15

Thank you for messages- will update when I can!

pinkbear82 · 03/07/2013 08:38

right am just sterilizing the equipment and then I'm going to give this expressing lark another go. Tried Violet with the bottle last night to see if she would take it and I don't thing's going to be an issue.

She is however in a bit of a grump this morning and won't be put down without screaming so currently have her in her baby carrier while littering around. we are both up and dressed so I guess that's a good start!

curlyclaz13 · 03/07/2013 08:42

Good to hear how everyone is doing. Oscar seems to be doing well was 40g off birth weight at 15 days and hv should weigh him today. Had a feeding frenzy on Sunday which was bloody hard work despite knowing it only lasts a day ! I need to get to a baby group but am being a wuss about going on my own for the first time.
I am sure in laws are sent to try us, not quite as bad as mrs bri's but not that dissimilar mine have tried to pair OH with other women over the years and clearly I'm not good enough until getting pregnant then they are all concerned about me. They keep going on about being involved and have been over more times in the 3 weeks Oscar's been here than the last 6 years we have lived together ! they have also bought things like prams, car seat and crib for their house. as if I would leave him there any time soon ! They have already said a few times about having him so we can go out, err no thanks I choose to have a baby and am going to spend as much time as I can with him not palm him off for a night out any time soon. ( just because they ditched their kids any chance they could) . sorry about the rant can't moan too much to OH about them Grin

pinkbear82 · 03/07/2013 08:57

ha curly! I have the outlaws offering to have Violet when ever I like 'its only fair they did it for dp other children' - like you I had a baby to be with it and watch them grow. not pass them off asap to let my hair down - I hardly ever went out before having her, I'm even less interested in going out now.

dp said to me the other day -you really love her don't you? ex-wife never looked at the girls that way, they were a bother to her but you can see you love your little girl to bits.

took all my strength not to make some quip back about his delightful ex. I just smiled and said I wouldn't have it any other way.

outlaws and ex's should be part of the getting to know dp process - like before you even start to think you like the man...

MrsBri · 03/07/2013 09:03

Curly, your ILs are definitely similar! All this banging on about seeing baby and coming over to help (so they can see baby) drives me mad. I know MiL thinks she will get baby during the day at her house too. Nope! I'm making the most of my maternity leave and need to spend time with my baby as much as possible.

learnermummy · 03/07/2013 09:19

Hello all had forgotten this thread was here.
MrsBri your in laws sound delightful Hmm.
My in laws moved 4 miles away last week (from 100 miles away). Have opposite problem with them - very hands off and would have to ask for them to help with any of the kids, they never offer! You can't win really.
Everything else good here except the pain from my sodding piles. It was that that kept me awake last night, not Anna Hmm.

curlyclaz13 · 03/07/2013 09:20

Well they are only little for a while and it's my job to look after him and I love doing it. I think even OH is surprised by how I am with him as I would not call myself maternal ! We are supposed to be going to a village fete with them Saturday and they keep going on about some evening thing and us staying overnight. Not fil (not married ) moans if you get up for a wee in the night so a crying milk monster is not going to go down well.

pinkbear82 · 03/07/2013 09:50

learner hope the piles clear up without any further help! I had some banded a while ago and it was agony! They said take paracetamol for the next day but you'll be fine. A week later inward phoning the gp in tears and he prescribed stronger painkillers and said he wasn't surprised and that I should have had something stronger from the start! So be warned - if they offer banding allow at least a week for recovery! and get a holey cushion to sit on

Got about 45ml expressing this time - it's in the fridge now and hopefully will be used as a daddy feed tonight.

learnermummy · 03/07/2013 13:33

Sounds delightful pinkbear! Did it take long to recover?

curlyclaz13 · 03/07/2013 13:41

learner have you been to the gp about the piles ? I had the same problem and got some prescription stuff that the midwife recommended. it truly is magic bum cream ! I need to remember to keep using lactolose as constipation is really not fun Sad .
hv has been and oscar is doing well and is now 4oz over birth weight at 3 weeks she thinks he will be a giant ! 53cm long and has big hands and feet.
