Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Congratulations AmI. Lovely name (I'd never heard it until a couple of months ago, when someone I know named their baby that). Thanks for your post on baby groups by the way :) .

SunnyL · 03/07/2013 23:51

Congrats AmI. Is that all the babies here then?

Ive got a cranky one here. Hasnt poo'd in 24 hours. Also seems to have bad wind too and the only thing that makes her happy is nursing off me which shes been doing for 5 hours getting more and more violent as clearly there is bugger all left in my boobs.

MrsBri · 04/07/2013 00:53

Have you got any formula in the house, Sunny? We keep some in for emergencies. That may help settle her. Not sure about the pooing though.

We've realised the chillies in our food doesn't seem to agree with Amy, so hopefully after avoiding them today she'll have fewer exploding follow through farts and wind.

I hope you get baby settled soon, Sunny.

AlohaMama · 04/07/2013 01:14

Congratulations AmI, and I love that name!!

curly that sounds like plenty enough achievements for one day!

pinkbear I have a boba G3 and love it. Works well for newborn as they just kind of snuggle down in it. It's quite structured for wearing around the house (probably not a big deal there, but hot here!) but it's all I've used for taking her out so far.

sarah agree on clothes. Call me anal but I ended up taking everything I had, lining it all up in size order and putting into piles in order of size, regardless of what the label said. Can confirm though that the newborn sleepsuit which was all baggy on her when she came home from hospital now looks too small. How can she grow so much already!

Another achievement this morning. Managed 30 minute drive with toddler and babe to other side of the island to meet a friend and go to the beach. Took hours to actually leave the house with all the luggage but it was fine once we were out. Toddler now suitably worn out and napping Smile

sparkle I think there is a mixture of feeding happening. I'm bf and yesterday for the first time expressed and dp gave the ebm bottle before bed.
At the end of the day you have to do what ever works for you. Bubs is being fed, loved and cared for - that's what is most important, doesn't matter how that happens.

Have you tried expressing and then giving via bottle - don't forget it's early days and your milk might not be in yet that might make a difference. I hear nipple shields can be great too.

I'm sure some of the more experienced mummy's May know more and be more help. But don't feel bad, and you won't get judged here. This whole parenting game comes down to what works best for you and lo - everyone is different. hope I make some sense and haven't gone on too much~lack of sleep tonight may be coming out

aloha I love the fact you can head off to the beach ~ makes me very jealous! obviously won't be the same over here weather Wise, or I would imagine view Wise but are you going to be near a beach? I'd imagine you'll miss having such wonders around you. I'd have to have pictures up to day dream over I think.

ami I might have already congratulated (I hope). HOpe the first night is going well and that you are doing ok.

Sling Wise I have spent some time on eBay and ordered one that's very similar to a Moby one - slight budget issue - if we get on well with this one when it arrives I shall look into getting a proper one.

hope this makes some sense! waffling springs to mind. Smile

pinkapples · 04/07/2013 06:16

Sparkle I was like you and started off bf now 3 weeks in we are ff at night Theiah seems to settle and stay asleep longer on it and I am expressing 2/3 times a day although not sure whether to just go with formula now but don't want to throw away my expressed 'liquid gold' as they call it Grin will see how today goes on the theory if formula at night bm in the day

Steffanoid · 04/07/2013 07:05

sparkle, were combination feeding here and so are a couple of others x

Olimoss · 04/07/2013 07:54

Sparkle - we are combi feeding too, have been since day 1, EBM and formula. Joe point blank refuses the boob, we've tried literally everything. He latches on really well, takes 4-5 big sucks, comes off and goes all boot-faced, locks his lips together & refuses anything else titty related!

some babies just like bottles better I guess. He's fine in the combi feeding. I'd have to do it even if I was BF as I don't make anywhere near enough milk for him.

Speaking if, what sized meals are your darling bundles taking in, and how often? I am sure J is being OTT as he has between 10-150ml every feed, 8 times a day.

Ami- big congrats!

Steffanoid · 04/07/2013 08:01

oli we're having boob for about 5-10 minutes then between 10-20 ebm then between 80 and. about 110 of aptamil each feed, like you about 8 times a day

SunnyL · 04/07/2013 08:11

We're kindo of combi feeding too. Tends to be bottles in the night and boob during the day but we have a bit of a piglet and demand sometimes outstrips supply so we do top up sometimes with formula in the day time too. When it comes to expressing i can have great days where i get 150ml in 20mins and then crap days where it takes me 3-4sessions just to get 100ml. I bought loads of milk storage bags for the freezer but i'm still not making enough to have any left over after little Miss Greedy gets her paws on it.

The best bit about bottle feeding is the milk drunk look on her face she gets at the end. Looks like me after a bottle of wine!

massagegirl · 04/07/2013 08:47

Am also combi feeding. 2 x 90ml bottles of formula a day, I just don't express enough and probably never will :( what's great is that oh does her 11pm bottle so I can get some sleep until her next feed which is anywhere between 2-5 am. She is breast fed on demand other than that and at nearly 6 weeks has no real routine to feeding a feeds a lot of the day!

Well I think after the morning we've had I'm now switching to formula and just expressing to relieve boob pain as she's just literally thrown the whole 4oz back at me Hmmcue change of clothes for everyone and very dissatisfied baby I'm sure it's just not good quality it looks really watery

MrsBri · 04/07/2013 10:07

That's not good, pink. I think I'd have cried :-(

We are almost exclusively breast fed with tiny formula top ups when we are tearing our hair out. And last night when DH couldn't wake me to feed Amy! We only ever give enough to tide her over rather than a full serving though.

If we had to we'd give her more though.

pinkbear82 · 04/07/2013 10:11

go sparkle

t'other pink don't be so hard on yourself! you've had so much to deal with you are doing fab. And if it helps my expressed milk looks watery too. Same goes for you, you are doing what's best for your LO - and what ever you decide is ok. Bubs is loved and cared for and is being fed. If it works for you then that's the main thing.

this might make you all giggle dp had a slight moan last night that something hadn't been washed yet. I kindly reminded him he knew where the wash basket and machine was he could feel free to put a wash on at any point. Collecting the rest of the washing this morning I'm 99% positive one item of mine made it into the wash but not one item of dp's remains unwashed! hmmm. oh and of course he didn't dry or sort the washing but it's still job done as far as he cares Hmm men. Remind me why I was pleased to have him home again

MrsBri · 04/07/2013 10:22

Pink, I'm clearly so lucky with my DH as he's really good at doing the washing from start to finish! Plus most other things too :-)

You need to get him trained!

Hawkmoth · 04/07/2013 10:43

We're going to decide on topping up today after she's weighed. Although, after she was feeding non-fecking-stop from 2300 to 0330, then screaming again at 0450, I would have quite happily given her a pint of lager in a bottle...

MrsBri · 04/07/2013 10:58

We cluster feed in the early hours, Hawkmoth. The best milk comes I'm then, so it's a sensible choice for babies to feed then.

I fed between 12.30-3.00 and then again at 4.15 this morning. We then had 3 hours' sleep. W00t!

And I agree re topping up. If she doesn't put on enough weight I'll have no hesitation to combi feed. Can't be doing with the pressure if they're badgering me about her weight!

pinkbear82 · 04/07/2013 11:00

mrsbri I have a man who I'm fairly sure has managed to get his mum to do everything for him! I think that may have included most things when he was with his ex too - she certainly doesn't strike me as a woman who ran around behind him!
He's very good at talking the talk but not walking the walk. I love him really

3 items of mine made it into the wash Wink

hawk nooo, I hear whiskey is the thing Wink start them on the hard stuff.

Any one else find eBay a danger during night feeds?! I keep buying things all needed but not at 3.30am!!

Hawkmoth · 04/07/2013 11:24

Hmm. I'll accept it as normal, but must get a nap in early evening. Although my chest is getting better my reserves are very low and I just feel ILL all the time.

I'm afraid my DH is a bit of a marvel. He's a SAHD so we're both at home, though he does do some evening and weekend call centre work. At the moment, he's making soup and the whole house smells wonderful.

rrreow · 04/07/2013 12:17

Congrats AmI! You must be so relieved she's finally here. Love the name, so pretty.
