Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Violet has a high pitched screech she emits every so often when sound asleep! Also she sneezes a lot and her legs fly around loads when she does that.

Aloha I hope it eases up before getting to you. Silly weather.

On the topic of baby noises Violet let rip a massive fart and burp together just now, very comical, as was the shocked expression on her little face.

Sarah2506 · 28/07/2013 18:29

Pink polly did that in the doctors waiting room the other day. I had to say 'goodness me, polly!!' Quite loudly. So everyone knew it was her not me:-)

AmIGoingMad · 28/07/2013 18:53

Grin Sarah!

Lots of grunting and weird noises here too mrsbri! I was starting to wonder if it was something I should mention to HV or if it was because she was delivered by c section so hadn't cleared some gunk but this thread has reassured me. Thanks!

Dummies seem to be hit and miss here right now- sometimes a resounding success and sometimes treated as if they're disgusting.

If you're ff, how much and how often are your babies having? Here at 3.5 weeks, Elodie is having 6oz/18ml every 3 hours (4 hours very occasionally and sometimes 2). It seems an awful lot for such a little tummy and I also sometimes wonder if she wants even more. She keeps most of it down now and sickness seems to be more tied in with finally managing to get a burp out of her rather than volume of milk.

Also- don't suppose any second etc timers have any potty training tips to share with me?

MrsBri · 28/07/2013 19:01

Wow, AmI, Elodie has a good appetite!

Amy has 150ml / 5 ish oz every 3 hours. Though at the moment she is sometimes having another 30ml on top of that. How heavy is she now? We gave her 120ml until she was 10 1/2 lbs.

So, we've established that babies burp and fart for England and are the noisiest / most fidgety sleepers EVER!

Like you, AmI, I was going to mention it to the GP as I was concerned about it. I think we're OK now, however (though I may mention it in passing!).

AmIGoingMad · 28/07/2013 19:50

She was 8lb15 born then 9lb 3 a week last tues which is when she was last weighed. HV coming on tues so I'm hoping she'll weigh her then!

MrsBri · 28/07/2013 20:09

Oh, and Amy feeds about every 3 hours, though will go 5 overnight. Sometimes it's 2 though.

I reckon Elodie will be a lb heavier this week!

pinkapples · 28/07/2013 21:07

Aml Theiah is 6 weeks 3 days now and is taking 4/5oz every 3 hours at least sometimes 4 and 5 overnight and in the heat maybe every 2.5 hrs although not often

May speak to doc at 6 week check about her bringing milk back up twice today it's come back through nose and mouth poor thing Sad

Also bleeding is back Hmm stitches still sore I know she was worth it but can't help wondering when ill be back to normal

Anyone else who had stitches dtd yet? If so was it sore? Hubby keeps mentioning it but as I'm not healed its a no go just yet will wait and see what Wednesday brings

Sarah2506 · 28/07/2013 21:34

Man I am jealous of the frequency of feeds for those of you using formula! Three hourly?! In the day we have an hour if lucky. In the heat it was constant. I went to the gym yesterday and had to express three 90ml bottles before I went just to be on the safe side! If it wasn't helping me to lose weight and saving me money I would so sack it off!!

Steffanoid · 28/07/2013 22:23

can I just proclaim how much I love that I had a 5 hour break at least between going for a wee, and I thought oh I need a wee, and it was an actual wee, not a pregnancy one I have my strong bladder back

also, think little man must have been zonked after a day of not being able to stay asleep at Naps he's been asleep since just before half 6, has just been transferred hone in tge car seat and is still asleep, I hope this is a sign of things to come Smile

SunnyL · 29/07/2013 05:51

Wooooo. We had another night where she slept from 9pm to 3am. Thats the second time in a week so not a fluke. Do you think this means my baby will start doing this regularly?

Pink, Lily is BF and regularly pukes trough her nose. Generally its because she needs to burp but being a piglet she believes the cure to all ills is more milk and therefore over fills herself. HV shrugged when i mentioned it so clearly isnt anything to worry about.

Olimoss · 29/07/2013 10:47

AmI - Joe eats 7-8 times over a 24hr period, averaging between 120-160ml each feed (two will be EMB, the rest Aptamil Comfort). I think it's a lot and hoping to stretch him from 3 to 4 hours. We have the most acest maternity nurse coming to look after him whilst I work so will be making the most of her knowledge and expertise to help with stuff like that. Also it's not as expensive as I had thought - extra £40/day or so for one-to-one care over a 10-hr period as opposed to the £75-80 group care a nursery would offer between 9-5pm at best. So that's good, I guess. Still v expensive obv!

Steffanoid - I think that all the time! I just mentioned it yesterday actually. It's so brilliant not having to an 'emergency wee' every time you leave to do something.

Still bleeding here, not sure if I should ask the GP about it as Joe will be nine weeks come Wednesday. Not big heavy horrid stuff but, still, it's there. What do you reckon?

Sunbeam18 · 29/07/2013 12:15

Sunny, we had amazing night too - he slept from about midnight until 645 and then went straight back down till 9am!!! This I like.
In mildly related news, we just DTD for the first time post birth ( at 5 weeks). It felt normal and didn't hurt!!! Hooray!

pinkbear82 · 29/07/2013 13:05

Just back from gp with Violet, she has reflux. Been given gaviscon for her.

Just wondering if it would be easier to express and mix the gaviscon or do the cooled boiled water mix. Tried the hv but no one in the office and I'd really like to start it today and see if it helps her.

curlyclaz13 · 29/07/2013 13:41

pinkbear I don't know the 'correct' answer but if she is bf I would try expressing and mixing ? I have been told not to give cooled water but maybe with medicine in it is different ?.
I have taken Oscar to meet his great nan today, she is 97 and really enjoyed having a cuddle, he was fast asleep and didn't disgrace himself with his sonic bum. Of course as soon as I had him back I had to feed him, it feels like the whole family have seen my boobs now !
I am bleeding again too stopped after about three weeks then started again for about 5 days after a week then again at the weekend. We have our check up on Thursday at the doctors so will ask then. No dtd here as things don't feel right down there still. Blush

curiousgeorgie · 29/07/2013 14:01

I am FF but my SIL who is currently with me breastfeeds and thinks the advice is to express and mix it rather than give water. Hth.

Stopped bleeding here very quickly. Dtd three weeks after my c section... (Probably not a wise move but had been drinking and due to pregnancy and a long period of very healthily ttc I am a total lightweight!)

Is anyone else grateful this heat is finally easing up a bit? I absolutely love the sun usually but with a toddler, a newborn and a crazy dog it has been unbearable!

Sarah2506 · 29/07/2013 14:06

We DTD at six weeks. I did not find it particularly nice. I was rather, um... Dry shall we say... Anyone else find that? And it's not exactly sexy having to avoid boobs and keep ginormous nursing bra on...

MrsBri · 29/07/2013 15:50

Sarah, my DH had one of his dads' emails the other day. Probably from the NHS. It advised using lubricant the first few times we DTD.

I'll be going for it after my 6 week check next Monday, I think.

What's everyone doing for contraception, by the way?

SunnyL · 29/07/2013 17:21

Having a bit of a tough afternoon. She just wont leave me alone and keeps screaming for no reason. Had to put her down and walk away for 10 mins as i was getting so stressed. When i got back she had real tears running down her face which made me feel even more like a crap mother. Its not easy is it?

pinkbear82 · 29/07/2013 17:37

Sending a hug sunny. They certainly are hard work. She's not got a touch of reflux has she? Violet suddenly turned into a screamer and non settler and just been gp today who agreed it could well be reflux.

So hard to know when you can't ask them and know what they are feeling.

When the screaming and crying started here and DP came home from work and asked what I had done to her almost resulted in me chopping off his balls.... He meant it 'jokingly' but soon learnt it wasn't something to joke about.

Hope things improve sunny xx

pinkapples · 29/07/2013 18:01

Anyone know if the bleeding could be a period? Mine stopped after 3 weeks then a small gush at 5 weeks (the one I went to the doctor with she said it was nothing) then since Wednesday it's back red and constant not light not heavy just like I imagine a period would be... Any thoughts?

So jealous of you DTD can't wait till Wednesday to see what they say about my stitches don't think we'll be doing it for a few weeks yet as I'm not convinced its right down there

curlyclaz13 · 29/07/2013 19:30

pinkapples, I am ebf so I hope not but think it might be Sad

sunny(think it was you) it is so hard when they are like it and even though you know it will pass it is hard to see that at the time. how old is your lo now ? Apparently there is a growth spurt between 6-8 weeks so could that be it ?

curlyclaz13 · 29/07/2013 19:31

oh and real tears are heart breaking aren't they ? make you feel so guilty even though you have absolutely not done anything wrong.

SunnyL · 29/07/2013 19:38

Yes she's 6+5 so probably the growth spurt. Managed an hour of semi-peace in the sling as i cooked dinner. Weight Watchers can go jump right now quite frankly with their ever so positive articles and emails. Its times like these that chocolate was invented for.

MrsBri · 29/07/2013 20:34

Go for your life with the chocolate, Sunny :-) I hope everything gets better soon.

I think we may be having an early growth spurt as Amy won't stop eating at all. And she is utterly hysterical almost as soon as she wakes up, not giving us time to even think of food let alone get it to her. It's heart rending listening to her scream :-(

We get real tears every day, sadly. She's very quick to turn on the waterworks. She looks so sad when she's stopped screaming / crying.

It's tough having a baby, that's for sure.

I'm hoping I get a period soon so I can start charting my cycle again ready for round 2 next year!

pinkapples · 29/07/2013 21:50

Awww sorry babies are misbehaving my little poppet is going through a growth spurt to I think as she is not very happy and wants feeding all the time!

Anyone getting the wonder weeks it is so interesting all the little things also downloaded a visual stimulation app on the iPad yesterday and Theiah loves it really calms her down worth a go! It's a series of random black white and red pictures that change to music Grin

Also started Atkins today feeling quite positive have 3 weeks to lose some before the christening then 5 months till Xmas my goal is to lose 3 stone to be fair only 5lbs of that is now baby weight the rest I had before hand how much baby weight has everyone else been left with or is everyone pretty much evened out?
