Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Thankfully she did fall asleep eventually 10.30ish and woke at 1.15 but I managed to ignore her till 3 then fed her and she went back so not a bad night in all

No dummies here I am dead against them (for my own not for others if they need them) she settles without one eventually and nighttime is ok so it not really needed

Steffanoid · 27/07/2013 10:59

good to know that there are some other users out there. my mums argument was that if he's not had one in 5 weeks he wont need one now, but we were finding he was up at 4 then 5 then half 5 etc tried the dummy at 5 last night and he was asleep till half 7, not sure if that was also helped by the colic drops he had at about 9 pm as well, the dummy only stayed in till he was asleep.

another question how much are you sterilizing the dummies? storing Ethans in a breastmilk storage pot between uses both of which get sterilized after each sleep/use

Hawkmoth · 27/07/2013 11:43

Baby had a wonderful, excited, engaged time this morning.... 0230 - 0500. Then slept for an HOUR! Weirdly, I could hear a cock crowing at 0400 and it's really not the area for that.

Re dummies, I tried with my first two but they refused. They were, and still are, thumbsuckers. Bobbie hasn't found her thumb yet but she's not as much trouble anyway.

SunnyL · 27/07/2013 12:55

We tried a dummy but she spat them out in such a fury when she realised there was no milk in the.

A Q for those combi feeding. Lil is 6 weeks now and in the last couple of days has shown an aversion to bottles. Normally we do a bottle of BM at 3am and an occasional bottle of formula if i want to go out. Last night and the night before she took half a bottle before spitting it out and screaming before i gave in and gave her the boob which she attacked. She was clearly hungry but just would not take the bottle.

Any ideas?

Hawkmoth · 27/07/2013 14:18

Don't know Sunny, Bobbie is also not a fan of bottles and only had one yesterday. I'm not sure I want to give up the middle of the night FF but she really hates it. She also won't finish and cries to go back on the breast.

curiousgeorgie · 27/07/2013 14:36

I wish Sephy would take a dummy! She makes a face like I'm feeding her poison and then spits it out. I tried so hard.. My three brothers were thumb suckers and all pulled their top teeth forward in doing so and needed braces... I had a dummy and my teeth are pretty much the only feature I like about myself Wink

My older DD had a dummy from birth and I really think it made life a lot easier. Plus there are SIDS statistics that are favourable about having a dummy I think. (Could be wrong, was told by a friend.)

Sephy was a total nightmare for me all week long, hardly sleeping, not eating, crying A LOT! Had a mental breakdown at my DH last night and he's taking the whole weekend of rocking and shushing so of course last night she slept 9-2, then her whole bottle, then till 6.46, then another whole bottle, then till 12, and is now happily sitting in her swing like an angel. I think she just doesn't like me!

Hawkmoth · 27/07/2013 17:03

Georgie, could be worse... Bobbie always shits within a minute of being handed to DH. Think it's because he is so warm.

MrsBri · 27/07/2013 18:08

Ha ha, Hawk...as long as the rule is that the holder does the change, that's fine :-)

curlyclaz13 · 27/07/2013 20:03

So after feeding all night Oscar has pretty much slept all day, my boobs feel ready to explode and I bet he won't sleep tonight. OH is out for the first time tonight aswell.

pinkapples · 27/07/2013 22:06

Can anyone describe reflux for me?

learnermummy · 27/07/2013 22:31

Pink apples I think MrsBri described reflux further up the thread recently.

Anna's been awful today, pretty much screaming or feeding all day with virtually no sleep Hmm. Have even tried phil Collins pinkbear! My wonder weeks book tells me there's a developmental stage at 4-5 weeks that makes them really cranky so am desperately holding onto the promise that it will pass! Only saving grace is that it's the weekend so at least DH has been able to share the screaming if not the feeding!

pinkapples · 27/07/2013 22:47

Oh yea just found it thanks x

MrsBri · 28/07/2013 02:18

We've started the Infacol tonight and stopped the Gaviscon.

We weren't sure if it was reflux or not as Amy is perfectly happy sleeping on her back and the Gaviscon has made no difference to anything. The only time she's really uncomfortable and crying is when she's taken ages to get some wind up.

See what happens with it! Does it work as well as it ever will from the start or does it get better over time? Seems ok so far as Amy has burped more easily this evening.

Pink, do you think your LO has reflux? I hope she settles soon.

pinkapples · 28/07/2013 02:23

I'm not entirely sure mrsbri but yesterday she projectile milked all over me 3 times during the day and at her evening feed she does sleep
On her back at night though which I am assuming she wouldn't do if it was reflux

MrsBri · 28/07/2013 06:59

I'm very confused about Amy.

Does anyone else have a grunting / snorting baby who waves their limbs round while they sleep?

I can't work out if it is just her or if she's uncomfortable and it's wind / reflux etc.

Any clues?

SunnyL · 28/07/2013 07:09

MrsBri the infacol works better the more you use it. We started off using it for every feed then gradually stopped using it. Now at 6 weeks we're not using it at all as she only needs to sit up to release burps of epic proportions.

Another night of being a pain with the bottle here though which means DH cant share the feeds. Boo hiss.

On the plus side i am having increasing luck at putting her down in the evening so DH and i can have some adult only time. Half 9 last night and half 8 the night before that.

pinkapples · 28/07/2013 08:32

Mrsbri I get lots of grunting and acrobatics I think it's normal :-)

Steffanoid · 28/07/2013 08:52

lots of it here Mrsbri sometimes he lets out one cry then you look at him and he looks to be sleeping so soundly, odd

Sarah2506 · 28/07/2013 09:05

Fair amount of the grunting here as well. She gets painful wind and doesn't know what to do about it and yells for milk as in pollys world that solves everything. But it doesn't help and she screams while eating then just suddenly drops back to sleep. All pretty normal I think. After her second wake last night she slept for an hour then woke up doing the grunting thing and we had to get up with her and supervise several massive farts, poos and belches and now she has passed out again:-)

Olimoss · 28/07/2013 09:56

Me here MrsBri - the pre-shit dance & grunt routine is pretty impressive. Then it's all smiles (for J, at least, I guess cause he doesn't have to clean it up!)....

OP posts:
MrsBri · 28/07/2013 10:47

Ah, you've all made me feel better. I was really concerned about her as she spends a good portion of the night being noisy / directing traffic / waving legs.

It's not necessarily pre-shit as she's decided that stealth shits are more fun!

The Infacol is fantastic so far. I can get burps really quickly now. Epic burps. Sometimes you could wind for 20 minutes and get nothing.

I hate knowing nothing and worrying all the time. :-( I guess that's parenthood for you!

I'm leaving DH to sleep this morning as he has a physical job and needs to catch up. I have a wriggly, grumpy baby in my sole charge. Bugger!

AlohaMama · 28/07/2013 14:35

mrsbri we have a grunter here too. Ridiculously loud sometimes! She also regularly does an impression of a creaking door when she sleeps. Sleeping babies are loud!

Awesome night so far (it's 3:30 am). Was cold enough to use the swaddling sack last night and she just sleep from 9pm-3am! Feel so much better already, now if she could just sleep through till 6 or so that would be great.

On less positive news we have just been forecast a tropical storm approaching. Here's hoping it dies down before it gets here, as its hard to know how much to prepare. Some people go mad for stocking up on water and tinned food and petrol. I'm just worried about high winds freaking out the kids. That and our flimsy wooden house.

Steffanoid · 28/07/2013 16:38

we've had the English version of a tropical storm just as I got home from a 4k walk, the heavens opened, 2 cracks of thunder and now sunshine great British summer!

MrsBri · 28/07/2013 17:05

I'll take your creaking door and raise you a chicken! Plus a pig. And other farmyard animals!

I hope the storm bypasses you, Aloha. When does the house sale go through? Must be soon that you move?
