Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Madame that must be awful! Poor you and your dd! How long does it take to run its course? It must be hard in this weather too when you're wanting her to drink more not less. I hope she's better soon and that your dd2 avoids it.

Sunny well done on joining ww! I did it when DS was about 9 months old and found it really good. Maybe I'll try it again this time at some point. Although I'm hoping that I'll lose some naturally running around after 2- there's certainly no resting while baby sleeps going on here at the moment!

Much better day yesterday. But my head was pounding like I've never felt before. It does seem to have eased overnight but I honestly had never felt anything like it last night. DH took pity on me and did night feeds in the hope the sleep would help it out love him!

SunnyL · 19/07/2013 09:10

Massage with WW the options were wholly breast feeding, or breast feeding/weaning so combi doesn't really fit into either of those. Hopefully slimming world has another option? I think with WW you could just adjust your app to give you less points over the week for combi?

rrreow · 19/07/2013 09:44

Oh no hand, foot & mouth is the pits! Good luck, hope it passes soon and your baby doesn't get it.

Off to a mums & babies meetup now. Well, once I dry my hair and feed Z and actually get out the door! (probably shouldn't be spending my time reading mumsnet as now you'll see he'll want to feed for 30 minutes rather than the usual 10)

MrsBri · 19/07/2013 09:49

Madame, your poor daughter. I hope she's better soon and the LO doesn't catch it.

I'm waiting til my 6 week check to get the all clear from the GP, then I will walk more and get on the cross trainer as much as possible. I'll use My Fitness Pal rather than sign up for anything I have to pay for. I lost 2 stone doing this the other year, so should be ok :-)

DH has gone to work for the first time all day today so I'm flying solo! It's not going too badly so far! Famous last words, no doubt!

massagegirl · 19/07/2013 11:47

Thanks sunny. She's on my boobs a lot so will see what they say at first weigh in..., god dreading that! And yes to walking more once it cools down.

Mutley77 · 19/07/2013 14:17

madame - I'm so sorry about your DD1 being ill and the risk to your DD2. I can really relate to this as when DS (my second) was a newborn DD1 got chicken pox and I was absolutely desperate with worry as the GP advised that the pox can be fatal to newborns - luckily DS escaped without getting it but I can remember how scared I was.

Hawkmoth · 19/07/2013 15:04

Dear PIL, nice of you to come round to see the baby. Now stop fucking talking about the weather and how few clothes you've been wearing in your caravan.

Cheers.

MadameJ · 19/07/2013 16:03

Thanks everyone, DD1 is sooo poorly but at least managing to drink, the GP said it usually starts to improve by day 3 so im clinging onto that!

AmIGoingMad · 19/07/2013 16:34

Thank goodness she's managing to drink poor little thing! I hope she'll already be feeling lots better by tomrw and that you have plenty of people around to help you out with newborn and Dd to look after!

Hawk I hope that your in laws change that line of conversation sharpish!

curlyclaz13 · 19/07/2013 16:46

madamej I hope your little one is better soon.
I have a first time mum question, tummy time, when should I do it and how ? He gets lots of time laying on mine or OH'S chest so he is not flat on his back all day. should I be doing more ? he does have a play mat I can lay him on.

rrreow · 19/07/2013 17:07

Curly, do it when he has an active/awake period. If your particular baby hates it then don't bother. It's not like it's essential.

When I put Z on his front I like to lie next to him so my face is close to him. He gets lots of tummy time as he loves lying on his front and naps that way. He actually gets more agitated on his back.

rrreow · 19/07/2013 17:07

And lying on chest time counts as well! As long as they're in a position where they need to make an effort to lift up their head.

pinkbear82 · 19/07/2013 17:15

Madame hope day 3 brings the improvement for all of you, nasty berms sod off!

Hawk Blush yikes, no one needs to be hearing that!!!

As much as I love the dsds there are times I'm surprised they didn't put me off ever having my own. Confused DSD 8 home from school today, her head hurt, then she had tummy ache, then a cough that lasted about ten minutes, then she felt sick.

Gave her lots of fluids and went down the rest in bed route. Was highly suspicious it was an avoidance that was more the issue, not being ill.
Sure enough when DP spoke to their mum, her report wasn't as they felt it should be, so she did say to her she didn't have to go today or next week if she didn't want too AngryConfused I will never understand some things.

And the dog has been sick all over the sofa, resulting in lots of washing. Ugh

Sarah2506 · 19/07/2013 17:25

rrreow London transport question if you don't mind! I'm going to brave heading into town but need to know how I'm going to get out! I don't want to rely on people helping me. I can get in at High Barnet as there is step free access. The step free tube guide says u can get out at green park and kings cross. Have you done this and is it easy? Are there lifts? Also do you know if you can interchange at kings cross without too much bother or do you need to come up to station level and go back in another way?

Lastly, when on buses do you tap in at the front and then get off and get back in at the middle- my pram won't fit down the aisle!!

rrreow · 19/07/2013 21:52

Sarah I've been to both stations with a buggy and yes they have lifts to take you all the way to the platform. I think they even have level access to the trains themselves but you have to be in the right carriage / bit of the platform. Just prepare to do a lot of walking inside the stations to get from one lift to the other!! Last time I did that I was about 37w pregnant though so it might not be as bad as I remember.

With regards to the bus, I haven't been on the bus with a pram for ages, but if yours doesn't fit down the aisle I'd just flag down the bus, when the driver opens the door ask him to open the back door and then go in through there. Park your pram and then go and touch in on the card reader.

Also I've found that people are always REALLY helpful when you've got a pram. Helping you get on/off the bus, helping with steps at tube stations etc.

Good luck!

curlyclaz13 · 19/07/2013 23:23

cluster feed central here today, not even time to express. I am knackered ! thought he had fallen asleep about an hour ago so had a sneaky cider but halfway through he was wide awake and hungry. feel a bit guilty but I am sure he will be fine.
Looks like it is generally going to be cooler this weekend so maybe all the babies will be happier and we can enjoy the weekend.

AlohaMama · 20/07/2013 00:22

I wouldn't worry about the cider curly, the tiny amount that will get into the breast milk. Sounds like a tiring day.

So sorry to hear about your dd madame. what a nightmare.

Looking forward to the time when dd can self-soothe. when does that happen? She's good in that she doesn't cry much but she's doing that thing where you rock her, get her to sleep, and then the moment you put her down in the moses basket she's all widey-awake again. The entire evening is spent with my arms full which does make bathtime for ds somewhat tricky!

Right, off to pack for our camping trip now. Will check in again on Sunday!

MrsBri · 20/07/2013 00:59

Rant alert...why on earth would somebody turn the air con unit off in the lounge and shut all the downstairs windows in this heat?! My sodding DH. Not sure what came over him.

He also shut all the upstairs windows except the bedroom. But didn't put a fan on in the bedroom. We now have nowhere suitable to sleep because the whole house is a bloody oven. That'll teach me not to go sleep. I did just have a rant about heat and SIDS though, so I think he's got the message!

I had something else to say too, but I've forgotten it in my ranting!

pinkbear82 · 20/07/2013 04:13

DP and i wide awake, small child sound asleep and has been since 1am.
Bloody cat brought a live mouse in, straight into the bedroom and under the bed Confused cue bed moving and catching the blighter, just what you want when it looks like the baby is going to sleep the longest she ever has.

Sleeps over rated right?!

AmIGoingMad · 20/07/2013 05:04

Why does our gorgeous girl think that the best time to be alert is at the 3.30 feed?!?! I really need to get bk to sleep now little one - your big brother will be up for the day in an hour!!!!!

SunnyL · 20/07/2013 07:03

We've had an unsettled night here too. Moved the moses basket downstairs to the livingroom at 2.30 and DH slept on the floor next to her. He brought her back up at 6 and said he'd put her on his chest once she'd had a feed. Unfortunately he rolled over and fell fast asleep and cant wake him so baby is now sleeping on my spot in the bed so i cant get back to sleep. Its like the song - there were 3 in the bed and the little one saidroll over!

learnermummy · 20/07/2013 07:35

Can I have s hot weather rant too? Spent all evening with screaming baby who wouldn't settle only interrupted at 9:30 by 4 year old throwing up entire dinner over his bed Hmm. Had to leave baby screaming while we sorted him out. Luckily we still have spare bed so DH co-slept with him all night. He was sick again but can only think the heat is to blame Hmm.
I co-slept with baby and we did have s good night, with her sleeping a 5 hr stretch at one point!
Happy Saturday everyone x

AmIGoingMad · 20/07/2013 09:28

This heat is driving mad! And it sounds like I'm not the only one!

I'd probably have gone nuts too mrsbri! And I hope you got some sleep sunny! Yuk to the mouse Pinkbear! And learner I hope that your DS is better today? Madame how is your dd doing?

DH birthday today so I've left him in bed and have resorted to peppa pig for DS while dd sleeps on me as she won't sleep anywhere else at the moment!

On another note- I couldn't believe it when I heard on the news about a 4 wk old baby being treated in burns unit for severe sunburn. That's madness!

Hawkmoth · 20/07/2013 10:13

There is.... A breeze!

We're very unsettled here, so have given up on all my freedom and am letting baby sleep on me. I'm reading books for the first time in ages! Yawn.

MadameJ · 20/07/2013 10:13

Well thankfully DD1 seems much better and has actually managed to eat this morning and DD2 (after a huge cluster feeding session) managed her first 4 hour stretch overnight so that was fabulous!! Hope everyone has a nice weekend x
