Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mutley77 · 18/07/2013 08:16

Hope everyone is ok - I am coming to the end of the day here in Australia. A bad day here, felt stressed all day. DD fairly settled but just feels overwhelming coping with her needs along with my 2 other children. She never goes longer than 3 hours between feeds - nights included - and is 5.5 weeks. I guess it is just a case of waiting....

My kids are watching SOOOOO much TV it is unreal.

Metanium has worked wonders for my kids in the past when they've had sore bottoms.

Oh, and if anyone is desperate for a flatter tummy try recovery shorts - they have a website if you google them. They are expensive but brilliant, they have sorted my tummy within a week and I have now stopped wearing them as don't feel I need to any more.

Sarah2506 · 18/07/2013 08:55

Aloha and Mutley you must find our heat wingeing amusing. But you've probably got air con inside!

I'm so frickin sick of it now. It's so hot outside that I feel like we can't go out. But I can't stay in as I am on my own in a baking hot flat. And I will go mad. Polly still seems ok in the heat, waking more frequently but that's about it. Problem is its so stinking hot I then can't get back to sleep. I still probably get more sleep than most so am trying not to complain but man I am shattered and sick of it.

mrsbri Lakes sound amazing. Higher and cooler would be lovely right now. I'd drive down the Langdale Valley and park myself in the Dungeon Ghyll beer garden.

curlyclaz13 · 18/07/2013 10:05

another one ready for a slightly cooler day or two ! I am glad we all have here to moan though so you know you're not alone.
ami I that is the limit of my knowledge there I'm afraid I would imagine it depends how big it is to how long it takes to reabsorb. it doesn't help that they use medical terms when plain English would do and leave people less worried. saying that I got pissed off with being told Oscar had to see the 'baby doctor' instead of paediatrician so there's no pleasing me !
I think we all need to get together somewhere lovely and cool with gin on tap ( that doesn't get into bm) and a baby friendly swimming pool so we can all have a good moan and relax and all the babies will sleep all night and be the perfect little angels we know they really are. can you tell I am sleep deprived ? Grin

massagegirl · 18/07/2013 10:50

Yes please to pool and gin on tap!!

AlohaMama · 18/07/2013 12:08

Nope sarah you have my sympathies! Its almost always breezy here so never feels quite as hot. Plus we do have ceiling fans on the go. We do actually have AC but I can't bring myself to use that much electricity. Mind you when thewinds died down in march and April it was hell on earth and at least then I only had to worry about myself being hot not a baby.

madame I hope your day goes ok. Tired toddlers at hard work.

And sorry your'e having a hard time too mutley. Hope did starts sleeping longer for you soon.

Mutley77 · 18/07/2013 12:40

sarah You have my sympathy too with the heat. When we first got here in march it was between 30 and 40 all the time and we were in an apartment with broken aircon. Hideous. At the moment it is cold here and I am relieved I am not trying to manage a newborn baby in the heat as by the time the temp gets up she will be more robust and me hopefully more laid back...

Hoping dd1 and &ds will settle down and go to bed soon so I can get my head down.... Being in a new place sucks as instead of relying on my good friends I am trying to make a good impression to make new friends.

madame you are doing a great job. I don't think I could manage a baby and a toddler, I had a friend round today with her toddler which exhausted me even though I was not remotely responsible for the toddler!

learnermummy · 18/07/2013 12:48

Mutley, I like the sound of recovery shorts but are they very hot to wear?
Oh and pram update - got new system that car seat clips into and she did school run in car seat with no crying Grin.

Mutley77 · 18/07/2013 13:06

Re recovery shorts. Ah yes sorry I forgot about your weather as thought to myself when wearing them I wouldn't want to in summer but probably ok on the not so hot days with just a loose fitting dress over. They actually work to get your tummy flat and therefore once you have worn them enough you don't need to wear them.
Great to hear about the pram learner. My school runs start on Tuesday. Until Christmas I need to go by car 3 days a week as ds is too far away to walk. Dreading rushing in and out of car and hoping baby bjorn will be my friend. Dd likes it so far!

AmIGoingMad · 18/07/2013 13:37

I hope the day has gotten better Madame?

And yes please to curly's pool and gin gathering!

So far today has been so much better than yesterday- long may that continue!

It's nice to have the sunshine but a degree or two lower would be great!

Trying to find the time to put my summery maternity stuff onto eBay today but can't see me managing it- one step at a time!

Mutley it must be tough to be dealing with a newborn and a big move right now! Sounds like you're coping really well!

rrreow · 18/07/2013 14:35

DontmindifIdo wow jealous! I could so go for a swim right now!

Sunbeam18 we've been doing lots of nappy free time, make sure his bum is completely dry when putting nappy back on, and Metanium when he has a bad rash/redness (I actually like the smell of it..). Seems to do the trick. He also poos constantly. I don't think I've ever changed a nappy where it was just wee. We use reusables and he gets nappy rash anyway so not sure about the whole disposables vs reusables argument when it comes to rash.

Yes to pool and gin! Although can you make mine a cool and refreshing cider?

Z has been bringing up a lot of milk after almost every feed. So he's having lots of short feeds to then make up for it again and my boobs feel like they're going to EXPLODE.

My stomach muscles still feel like they have a gap in between. I'm quite desperate to do some sport though. I'm not a very active person but I tend to get a rush of motivation during the summer (I have told myself I am no longer allowed to join the gym during such times though, as I always go for a few weeks and then never again for the rest of the year!). I'll wait until my 8w check and ask the GP about what I can do.

Steffanoid · 18/07/2013 14:54

I took Ethan to meet the ladies at dps work, he slept on the walk there, 0.7 miles after a bad night, woke at 2 till 4 as it was sticky and he couldn't get back off, ended up putting the pram up pushing him round the living room at 4am, I ended up sleeping on the sofa pushing the pram every time he stirred, am knackered, he woke up at dps work AMD won't sleep again now, my feet are shredded thanks to my flip flops and have walked about 5 miles over the last 3 days which is loads for me, my stomach muscles are not happy in the slightest.

this little boy is so cranky from not sleeping

Hawkmoth · 18/07/2013 15:49

Been telephoned by the GP and told to start taking iron. I'm a bit puzzled as to why the MWs didn't test after the birth. Anyway, it's good that I've a decent reason for being knackered, a reason with a solution. Shame that my iron medicine is so utterly foul!

Bit of a fail with the baby. Trimmed her nails in the wee small hours after an unpleasant nipple grab... Must have left some sharp edges as she's shredded her face. Bugger.

AmIGoingMad · 18/07/2013 16:24

Hawk have you tried spatone iron supplement? I've been using that instead of taking my iron tablets as they were evil! Saying that tho I haven't had my bloods done yet to check that its worked but I definite feel better!

SunnyL · 18/07/2013 19:43

Sorry everyone is finding the heat tough. We've had a few cooler days up here although today was scorchio. It means Lily has done a bit of adapting I think. We went this morning for a mini picnic with the NCT gang in the park under a tree then spent the afternoon at my mums sunbathing in the garden while Lily slept under a treeagain. All in all a magical day. Feel like sleeping now though because of all the sun and an early wake up call.

Hawkmoth · 18/07/2013 19:51

Hi AmIGoingMad... I tried spatone once but I couldn't stomach it. Unfortunately, orange juice is a major migraine trigger for me and I think that's the only way that spatone is drinkable! I have a sensitive stomach to iron and various other stuff so the medicine I'm on now does work, and quickly, without any ill effects. The worst thing about it is that for some bizarre reason, they have decided to make it chocolate mint flavour. I can only think this is because it's brown. In reality, it tastes of scabs and if you don't wash it down with pineapple juice (strips your mouth) immediately you end up swearing and retching. Or I do anyway... Yuck.

Last time I was bad it only took three weeks to start feeling noticeably better though. Ideally though, I would have already been taking the medicine for three weeks. I only had the blood taken yesterday afternoon, I've never been telephoned with results before. Certainly getting my money's worth out of the NHS at the moment.

MadameJ · 18/07/2013 20:58

Well now I feel awful DD1 actually has a severe case of hand, foot and mouth and has a mouthfull of blisters, could not calm her down at all today and getting her to drink has being a complete mission. The GP scared me to death by saying if DD2 gets it she will most probably end up in hospital :-(

DontmindifIdo · 18/07/2013 21:45

Hawkmoth - dark chocolate is high in iron.

DD is seems to have decided to do her wide awake time in the evenings. hopefully she'll settle more once the days are cooler.

Steffanoid · 18/07/2013 22:15

madamej I hope things get better and your lo stays clear of it Thanks

SunnyL · 18/07/2013 22:36

I did it. Bit the bullet and signed back up for weight watchers. Fingers crossed this collosal ass will begin to shrink over the next few months!

SunnyL · 18/07/2013 22:40

Oh and sorry MadameJ - sounds shit. No idea what half these childhood illnesses are and i dont look forward to finding out.

learnermummy · 18/07/2013 22:44

Hawk, I'm sure I've seen apple flavoured spatone in boots. Not tried it though, I usually down the normal stuff with orange juice.

Sunny well done on ww - do u get more points when breastfeeding?

Madame, sorry to hear about your lo. Hope all ok x

SunnyL · 19/07/2013 07:34

Learner yoy get a lot more points for breast feeding - 14 in total. Not enough to go totally mental but probably explains why ive been losing weight on a diet of chocolate biscuits.

Lily repaid yesterdays lovely day with a looooong night. Up every 2 hours. Thank goodness DH is off this weekend so can share the load.

learnermummy · 19/07/2013 08:06

Sounds good Sunny, perhaps I should join up again too. At least 1.5 stone to lose here Hmm. You going to a class or online?

arlandria666 · 19/07/2013 08:37

I rejoined slimming world on Tuesday you get 6 healthy extras for breastfeeding!! shame I am dairy free could have almost a block of cheese otherwise :)

on a brighter note he is sleeping longer between feeds at night goes down about 9 to 9.30 after being fed wakes around1 1 ish and 5 ish then we're up for 8 better than the 2 hourly waking!!
he has a morning nap (when I mad dash to get stuffdone) the stays awake fights sleep and gets sooo grumpy til 9 ish!!

still getting used to the fact he is mine after ttc for 3 years!

massagegirl · 19/07/2013 08:56

Ohhhh that's good arlandria, I was doing slimming works before pregnancy and looking to rejoin. I'm combi feeding though so don't know how they'd work that out?!
