Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

mrs bri I now have air con envy!
pinkbear similar here. The girl slept from 9 till 4. Amazing magical sleeping baby. In that time I slept for about an hour and a half due to the heat and a sodding car alarm repeatedly going off outside. Feel shocking today.
Rrreow thanks! Kind of regret getting such a massive pram at the moment! Should have got a bugaboo bee not a chameleon.

I am using the pram with the carrycot at the moment which is meant to see us through till six months. It almost certainly won't, she already seems bored in there!

Steffanoid · 20/07/2013 10:31

will the ounce of cooled boiled water trick work on a constipated little Ethan? he didn't go yesterday and has had a tiny bit of almost play doh consistency poop this morning, he does not look amused Sad Sad

MrsBri · 20/07/2013 11:26

That's good news, Madame :-)

And Hawk, I've yet to work out why, when they're unsettled due to the heat, babies prefer to sleep on us! Seems quite bonkers. :-/

Sarah, my mum bought it from Amazon for us. It's large and unwieldy, but it has been rather useful. Until DH turned it off to make the house an oven! He has an obsession with security, though I'm not sure anyone was going to come in through the lounge window while we were in there!

That's very good sleeping from Polly too. I'm impressed. Not so good re your lack of sleep. It feels like the worst jet lag, doesn't it? :-(

Steff, that helped Amy the other day. Quickly and dramatically, in fact!

MrsBri · 20/07/2013 14:01

Oh dear god! I did some lady garden tending in the shower today for the first time since about 38 weeks. It had gone feral. And I blocked the plug hole of the bath with it! Luckily only from the outside, but it was still a blockage.

Still can't really see down below without a mirror so it could be a half arsed job, but I'm glad I've tackled it now :-) Think it is best if I keep on top of it now!

DontmindifIdo · 20/07/2013 15:27

So DD finally pooed, first since Wednesday. All the way up to her nipples. why does that never happen when DH is at hand to pass her too??

She's much more alert that's she's been in the afternoon all week today - I think it's because it's so much cooler. I'm hoping that means staying awake in the afternoon = sleeping in the evening. She keeps being awake until nearly 10pm, although at least she does then sleep until 3ish. Last night fed at 2am, hten 3:30am, then 4am. I just about was coping when DS decided day was starting at 5:30am. DH took DS swimming this morning and they are playing on bikes now, hopefully he'll be tired out enough for both DCs to sleep tonight and mummy can pour a large glass of wine in peace

MrsBri - well done on plug hole blocking! It's amazing isn't it that we've all started to 'emerge' again. I'm feeling a bit less hideous, helped that I'm in some real jeans (although granted they are a dress size bigger than pre DD and are hipster style so not trying to do anything up over the horror of what once was a flat stomach.)

I've made my peace with giving up BFing as well, I'm not liking it still. It's 6 weeks now, I shouldn't still be hating each feed. So I'm still offering the boob but then when she does her usual pulling off half way through a feed, offering a bottle, guess that will slowly reduce my supply so that I plan to stop in another week and hopefully I won't hurt so much. Although actually this is rather nice level of feeding, tempted to keep this up for a few more weeks, I feel like I've got a lot more energy all of a sudden, perhaps mixed feeding is what's going to work for us... Is anyone else finding it tough?

MrsBri · 20/07/2013 17:05

Dontmind, if you're not happy breast feeding then there's no harm in swapping to FF at all.

I felt mentally lighter once we'd made that decision and have been far less tearful since stopping.

As I said then, a happy mummy = a happy baby, so you need to what's best for both of you in the long run.

And epic poo. Well done!

Hawkmoth · 20/07/2013 17:09

I got some asda bum and tum jeans, they hold in all the wobbly bits, fasten very high up and quite comforting not to be flopping all over the place.

My feet and ankles have swollen up again with this heat. It's really quite disheartening.

learnermummy · 20/07/2013 19:46

Will have to get to Asda Hawk - they sound amazing!

Glad your DD is on the mend Madame. My son has been fine today, no more sick thank goodness.

Sarah - amazing sleep from Polly! How old is she now? Are you still breastfeeding? Anna did 10 til 3 last night, but co-sleeping which I know my DH isn't keen on. She's had small naps today but unless out n about in car seat she tends to wake soon after you put her down Hmm. Still, at least it's much cooler here today SmileSmileSmile.

SunnyL · 20/07/2013 20:24

Babies that sleep for longer than 3 hours? You'll be trying to tell me leprechans exist next...mutter mutter mutter.

Anyway we've had a pretty good day here. DH is determined to spend quality time with bubs despite lacking the feeding equipment so i managed to crack on and finish a dress i've been making.

We've just had yet another bbq here and we had chocolate bananas - amazingly its only 3 points on weight watchers and yet i'm stufed and they were delicious.

Sarah2506 · 20/07/2013 20:52

Yeah still breastfeeding, not so much on demand as constantly! It's entirely unpredictable though, some nights she has no interest in sleeping whatsoever...

pinkapples · 21/07/2013 03:24

I'm sure Theiah has a watch this is a whole week now of 3.15 get ups for feeds :-)

curlyclaz13 · 21/07/2013 08:28

Anyone else got a baby with a supersonic bum ? Oscar is so loud but it makes us laugh, mum had him when we were out and he farted on her and she was crying with laughter, she isn't the sort to usually find that funny either.
I think the weather changing has helped sleep only woken at 2.30 , 6.00 and just now and he fell straight to sleep during the night. Smile

MrsBri · 21/07/2013 11:15

Yes, curly, Amy is known for her very loud farting and burping! We think it is hilarious. :-)

DontmindifIdo · 21/07/2013 11:39

Oh yes, DD managed a particularly loud trump this morning, at church, in the middle of the prayers, the quiet time when we think of others known to us in need. Couldn't have been in the middle of the organist playing a particularly rousing bit of music could it? Had to be when it was silent.

Last night we had a good night actually, DD wouldn't sleep until 9pm again (never getting my evenings back, am I?) then she slept until 1am, then woke up at 4am for a quick feed, then 6:45am. I actually feel ok today.

Hawkmoth · 21/07/2013 12:21

I think it's about now when babies start sleeping a bit longer. Bobbie did five hours last night. It could not have come at a better time, we were both slightly overwrought yesterday.

She won't keep any blankets on her but thankfully it was cool enough for a baby grow last night (no vest) so she didn't wake up with cold feet after her kicking frenzies.

Mutley77 · 21/07/2013 13:03

Oh please let my DD start sleeping better - she is six weeks tomorrow - i don't think either of my older DC every slept as little as DD!! She is wanting to feed every 2.5-3 hours and sometimes unsettled through the night too. She did 10.30pm, then 1.30 am then half awake until 3 when I got her up for a cuddle until 4 then feed, then settled from 4.30 for an hour, then another cuddle from 5.30 to 6.15 then feed then don't know as I asked DH to take over!!

She is ff too as she could not (would not?) latch on. So whoever says ff babies sleep better is WRONG!

I feel ok body etc wise. Given she is my third I am used to not looking great (!) it is a while since I don't feel I have time to properly do my hair though so am trying to at least do that at the weekend when DH here to help.

pinkbear82 · 21/07/2013 13:16

Violet woke every two hours for feeding last night. Usually we just have 3 feeds. Luckily she settles back down very quickly. Unfortunately for me since last night I have had an awful headache and still have it now.
DP is off doing his boys fun hobby of riding round a field today so violet and I did go back to bed for a bit, in hope to shift the brass band in my head, no such luck.

We also have a loud trumper here, and her burps put DP to shame sometimes!
Dontmind I bet that caused a few stifled giggles and interesting looks this morning!

Hope everyone that was poorly is getting better now, and that everyone is having a good day

DontmindifIdo · 21/07/2013 14:24

pinkbear - is that cycle riding? Am also a bike widow today. DH has gone off, but my parents are here. Currently my Dad is cutting our grass as I was bfing DD and it's all too embarrassing for him (that's fine, I'll put you to work then, I'm not hiding away in my own house) and Mum has been put on the naughty step by DS as she cheated at the race they ran. the naughty step rule is it's a minute for every year of your life, she's going to be there a while... Grin

AmIGoingMad · 21/07/2013 18:13

Grin At your mum on naughty step dontmind!

We've been out for lunch today which was lovely!

Little miss has slept most of the day tho- an hoping that's just the way it is as she's only 2 1/2 wks. Hoping it doesn't mean that she'll be up all night!

DS has also just woken from along nap so this evening could be very interesting!

Quick question- those who had c section and have other children. When did u feel ok to lift them for nappy changes etc, get down to play on the floor with them etc? DS is 2.6 and the size of 3-4 yr old.

pinkbear82 · 21/07/2013 18:25

Don't mind - it's motocross, so his legs don't work as hard! And I bet ur dh stays on his bike way more than my DP.... He just doesn't stay upright, and today was all about the points. When I got a txt claiming the bike was rubbish I knew not to ask about how it was going!!
Grin Has your mum been allowed off the naughty step yet?!

Ami - hope the evening isn't as bad as you fear. Violet has some days she sleeps loads but doesn't seem to affect night time, so fingers crossed for you.

DontmindifIdo · 21/07/2013 21:05

Oh, granny was allowed off the naughty step after a couple of minutes, so long as she'd go play trains with DS!

C section here AmI - I was OK after about 3 weeks.

DD is currently asleep in her cot - she's been there since 8! dear lord here's hoping a corner has been turned and I might get evenings back (now realising how spoilt I was with DS, from about 3 weeks he slept from 7pm -6am with a feed around 10 and then a short feed around 3).

SunnyL · 21/07/2013 22:03

YY to loud trumping and burping. Trumped like a trooper at the wedding we were at last week during the speeches and HUGE burp today at church so she got a special mention in the sermon.

My baby is great at sleeping at night but she will not sleep during the day. In fact she wont go to anyone except me during the day which is upsetting for both me and DH. Me because i dont get any time off and DH because he wants cuddles.

AmIGoingMad · 21/07/2013 23:23

Maybe your hubby will have to start wearing the boob like in meet the fockers bless him!

Tmi alert!
On day 18 post section today and haven't had bleeding in over a week now. Yesterday a tiny bit first thing in the morning and now today a bit more. But just now wiping after the loo and there was a big sort of clot. Dark blood like the rest of the discharge and thicker than the clots of the early days but still I think I'd class it as a clot. Has anyone else had this happen? I was also wondering as to what happens to your plug when you have an elective section?!

Ok- sorry about that but really had to ask!

pinkbear82 · 22/07/2013 04:09

Sorry ami I can't be any help - bet someone can in the morning tho.

Has anyone had mastis - I feel as tho I have been hit by a bus, very achy all over, headache, sore throat and clammy. My left breast is sore when feeding but wouldn't say it was overly hot or hard.
Think I'll have to phone gp in the morning as feel pretty rough with it.

AlohaMama · 22/07/2013 05:19

Just catching up. Sorry to hear you're feeling rough pinkbear. I've never has mastitis so can't help, sorry.

Sorry AmI can't help with that one.

I can report camping was a success! Everyone slept well, and we all enjoyed the beach, though it was sad knowing it was our last time camping in Hawaii.

Am getting quite tired of the long time it's taking to soothe Evie to sleep. It's frustrating as she settles quite quickly but then wakes up as soon as you put her down. I sometimes feel like I have to hold her all day, which is fine if I'm out with ds and she's in the carrier but if I want to do anything around the house it's a pain. I know I shouldn't complain as otherwise she is pretty good, and once she's asleep she'll sleep for long stretches, like 5 hours in the afternoon and 5 or 6 at night. Think I'm just a bit tired. I think I just wiped my mind of this period with DS!

Hope everyone else had a good weekend and that you're surviving the heat!
