Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

I seem to have an unsettled baby too. Perhaps is a 4 week old phase? She couldn't settle in Moses basket for more than about 45 mins at a time last night and does seem windy. Easier in day as she is settled when out and about then I can hold her or have her in carrier at home when she won't settle.

Still light bleeding here at nearly 5 wks after section.

learnermummy · 12/07/2013 12:19

Have decided to brave lunch out with baby and 4 year old. Of course she's opened her eyes just as my panini arrives....

pinkapples · 12/07/2013 15:58

Wow learner Grin well done hope it went well

I've also been out today to a stately home with hubby and baby had a walk round the house and gardens and had lunch by the lake have switched babies formula to the aptimel comfort as she is just unsettled and seems to be having real issues with colic (I reckon whoever mentioned the 4 week phase is right)

I'm having a brew now with hubby while she sleeps

curlyclaz13 · 12/07/2013 16:37

Just walked to town using the sling on my own for the first time. I was very sweaty when I got back despite it taking only 15 minutes in all ! collected breast pump and steriliser from boots which came in a huge box so had them take them out and put it in bags. I noticed I got some really funny looks using the sling not sure why though ? .

SunnyL · 12/07/2013 19:29

We're off to a wedding tomorrow with bubs. In this heat she has refused to sleep whatsoever between 1pm and 7pm and has drank and drank and drank. I have made a dress that I can breast feed easily with but think we will also take quite a few bottles of formula with us to try and cope with it as its likely to be another glorious day. Just hope baby doesn't puke on my nice dress!

AmIGoingMad · 12/07/2013 19:39

You lot are putting me to shame! Ok I know that she's only 9 days today and I'm only 9 days post section but I'm feeling totally disorganised and clueless even tho its second time!

We did manage to get out today- 2 hours after trying to we managed to get out of the door!

I'm still a bit wary due to section to be honest. Really don't want to overdo things and end up with recovery taking longer. How long did those of you who had sections take to feel more able to just function normally (ish)?

Also bleeding wise I haven't really had any since day 7 and there wasn't much in the days leading up to that. I'm a bit worried that's not normal now! I seem to lose a lot of confidence in my own instinct and knowledge soon after birth- same happened with my DS.

Stef Elodie is also a farter! I also think its because she gets windy but just won't give it up in the form of burps! We're switching to dr browns bottles this wkend to see if that helps.

Oo- I started a thread on bb and ff topic asking how people make up their formula feeds if anyone wants to have a look.

AmIGoingMad · 12/07/2013 19:40

That sounds lovely sunny! Enjoy!Smile

monal · 12/07/2013 19:43

Hello everyone. I am doing my biannual delurk to say my little girl was born on June 18th, and is finally now putting on weight, my scales and the doctor's agree, 300g in the last nine days. I have been feeling like a terrible parent but maybe things are looking up. Now I just need to find an HCP that will believe she has a posterior tongue tie and snip it, preferably without travelling to the UK to do so, wtf?

I walked all of 500 yards into the village today and got two massive grins at the sling curlyclaz

Sarah2506 · 12/07/2013 20:58

AmI I had almost no bleeding once home from hospital. I still have the maternity pads in the cupboard!

I am five weeks post section and today I walked eight miles including some hills. I feel almost entirely normal. I wouldn't go for a run but most other things!

I was out walking early on but I was crazy fit pre pregnancy so I'm maybe not typical. I do as much as I can but stop before it gets too much. I will take the carrycot downstairs but if I feel even a twitch of uncomfortable pain then I will leave it for DH to carry back up. I have been independently out and about since DH went back to work on day 17. It was either that or sit in a flat with no garden all day. That's quite a motivator!

rrreow · 12/07/2013 21:20

Curly , are you sure it's not people interested in the baby? I get a lot of 'omg look at that cute baby' when DS is in the sling. Lots of people actually talking to me as well. And I live in C London, the place where supposedly people are rude and never talk to strangers!

learnermummy · 12/07/2013 21:27

Wow 8 miles Sarah! What an achievement!

Totally shit day here in sole charge of screaming baby and 4 yr old mainly. Baby must have slept a sum total of 20 mins all day and screamed the rest unless being fed. It's days like today I really start to doubt that breast is best! And tomorrow's to be even hotter Hmm plus have stupidly agreed to friends staying. Urghh. At least Anna's been asleep now since 7 so have enjoyed a normal evening!

Enjoy the wedding Sunny hope baby sleeps more for you x v impressed that you can fashion your own breastfeeding dress!

MadameJ · 12/07/2013 21:58

Learner, I completly know how you feel as its being a shitty day here with dd2 feeding constantly and crying with colic and poor dd1 being completly ignored except when I decided enough was enough and parked my chair in the paddling pool so dd1 could pour water over me (the things we do to keep them happy!!!) Fingers crossed for a better day for both of us tomorrow! X

learnermummy · 12/07/2013 22:01

Yes here's hoping for a good day tomorrow Madame! At least I don't have to do the school run!

pinkapples · 12/07/2013 22:18

Just a quick one... How many poos are your ff babies having?

curiousgeorgie · 13/07/2013 00:09

AmI - I think that amount of blood loss can be normal too... I've had 2 c sections now and both times my bleeding has bed very very light and only for a week or so (one midwife said to me that while they're in there they try to give you a good 'cleaning out' yuck! Lol)

I'm 17 days post section now and carrying my 2 year old, the car seat with the baby in it and pretty much living normally.

Taking DD1 to In The Night Garden live on Sunday and am so excited for a bit of alone time with her Smile

Pinkapples DS is combifed but we are getting lots of mustardy korma like nappies from him just now - maybe four a day on top of lots of wet nappies. He is clearly dehydrated though as he is feeding much more in this heat... Has to come out somewhere!

AlohaMama · 13/07/2013 06:03

Very impressive Sarah, and well done the rest of you getting out and about. AmI I think allowances are made for you with only a 9 day old and having had a c-section!

Am so far finding it fairly easy to go out in the mornings with ds and the baby as she sleeps in the carrier almost all the time. Agree with the 4 wk fussiness though. No longer can I just feed and put her down, now lots more rocking to sleep only to have her eyes pop open the moment we put her down in her basket. We've just introduced the dummy and after a couple of days of spitting it out she's finally accepting it, so hoping that will help. I also finally managed to find time to pump for the first time today - 150ml sitting in the fridge waiting till tomorrow or Sun when we will introduce the bottle for the first time.

Sorry for your crappy days madame and learner - hope the little ones settle down for you tomorrow.

AmIGoingMad · 13/07/2013 07:37

Wow Sarah! Just wow! 8 hilly miles?! Well done!

I'm feeling a bit more reassured about the bleeding or lack of- thank you!

Learner and Madame I hope today is a better day. It's difficult trying to juggle the two isn't it.

Curious that sound so lovely! I'm so looking forward to giving DS some undivided attention some time in the near future!

You've all also given me hope with the progress you've made post section by day 17. Thank you!Smile

We tend to have a poo here after most feeds. Well that's been the case for the last few days anyway. Korma here too! Doubt any of us will be ordering that from the takeaway for a while now!!!Grin

Elodie's cord is still attached at the moment. Belly button is a bit ref and the top of cord is a little bit gunky ( a bit like her eyes). Is that normal or does that mean infection? HV due here on mon morning and mw tues.

AmIGoingMad · 13/07/2013 07:38

Sunny- enjoy the wedding! Lovely day for it!Smile

Olimoss · 13/07/2013 08:28

Sweet Jesus, have just booked flights back to Australia. So I'll be heading there with 16-week old Joe. Me and him. Long haul. Plus 3 internal flights around Oz, just for the fun of it.

God. I'm going to miss my traditional long-haul temazepam.

Post Csection my bleeding stopped after a week as well, but then came back & hasn't stopped since. It's possible it's moved into/onto a normal period. We will see.

J is being mostly aces with the occasional bad day. Day before yesterday he didn't/wouldn't sleep between 1230-930pm, got himself totally hysterical. Little bugger.

He's 6-weeks now, so we are going to start a kind of feed-bath-bed routine trial, and are trying to eek out his feeds so longer between them....sleeping from midnight-5am is a goal!

Exciting stuff Oli Smile.

AmI, you'll probably find her cord drops off soon. Anna's went a bit funky and then fell off in the next nappy. Her belly button was a bit red weepy for a while after but think fine. Midwife coming back today (to repeat heel prick as not enough blood before grrrr) so will get her opinion on belly button!

Enjoying peace and quiet here as DH has taken boys to tennis and Anna is sleeping. Think will go for a nice shower now!

learnermummy · 13/07/2013 09:31

Funky? Meant gunky stupid autocorrect

Steffanoid · 13/07/2013 09:48

3 weeks post section here and no bleeding as such, it's more like discharge colour wise?

my scar is just a little purple line now, healing really well

I have only just woken up, lovely dp took Ethan downstairs when he woke up it seems, only downside is that I've missed a feed and my right boob hurts so much! still a lovely thing for him to do Smile

Ethans gunky eye has cleared, breastmilk really worked! I had chance to double check with my friend who works in a nursery about bottles, they're inspected by ofsted who observe them making feeds by chilling it made up and the water method and are fine with both, not helpful in helping us decide which method to do!

me and Ethan have been sitting in our coolest room all week avoiding tge heat, it's due to get hotter, think he takes after me in a not liking hot weather thing
