Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

OP posts:

AmI - cord sounds fine, my mw was frustrated that DS still had his after two weeks and have it a brisk rub with a towel! It worked but DS was a bit bewildered :)

Sarah2506 · 13/07/2013 11:49

Ha oli I felt exactly the same flying long haul while pregnant! What do you mean no Valium to knock me out on the plane? Or tamazepam to help with the jet lag at the other end?! I didn't enjoy it.

SunnyL · 13/07/2013 12:52

Never in all my life have I spent so little time getting ready for a wedding. Hair is tied up so I don't have to bother brushing it, wearing a hat so tied back hair doesn't look scruffy. DH has spent more time ironing Lily's dress than mine so he can show her off. It's gorgeous weather for the wedding though I just hope lily doesn't get cranky in the heat and I have to miss the service.

Enjoy people!

curlyclaz13 · 13/07/2013 13:12

Hope you have a lovely time at the wedding.
We have been to another fete today but by home and it was at the church my mum goes to so she stole oscar and went off to show him off. many biscuits and some lemon curd have been purchased Grin

pinkapples · 13/07/2013 17:28

Hope you had a nice time at the fete

And here's hoping baby was good for you at the wedding

(Can't remember names sorry ladies just about remembering info Grin)

Theiah's being a pickle in the heat not sleeping can't decide if the switch to comfort formula was a good idea I have a doctors apt on Monday so I think I'm going to take her with me as she has got a rash on her face and neck I'm wondering now if she might not be agreeing with formula so well see what doctor says

Been so hot today even dogs don't want to be walked but hubby has taken them out for a little run so I'm home watching baby wriggle in the carrycot

rrreow · 13/07/2013 17:39

We went to a fete too. Really lovely! So hot out though. Had Z in the sling and he had beads of sweat on his nose and I smell a bit like a man now. DS1 had a nice time. We had to forego his nap though due to the timing. He's ok so far but we'll see how we go between now & bedtime...

AmIGoingMad · 13/07/2013 19:14

No fetes to go to around here at the moment unfortunately! Hopefully there'll be some when I'm more recovered so that we can take full advantage!

Thanks for the feedback on the cord and belly button situation!

Oli that's exciting! Bet you can't wait now!

We went for a short walk this morning with DD in pram to take DS to see the horses in the field at other end of village. It was lovely! Apart from the evil horse fly bites I acquired!

If anyone's still interested- the world health organisation guidelines on formula making up recommend doing it as you need them but also that if you need to make up in advance you make the formula with boiling water and cool then store in fridge.

learnermummy · 13/07/2013 19:44

No fetes here but the village pub has reopened today so Anna's enjoyed her first pub trip! Pretty much the whole village turned out so was really nice. And we made it home just as the thunder started!

SunnyL · 14/07/2013 00:06

What a fabulous wedding and what a fabulous baby we had today. I swear someone switched babies on us because she was so well behaved. One thing i completely forgot in my outfit though was to put breast pads in. Started to leak during the ceremony so DH was lovely drove to the nearest Tesco to get me some while we were having drinks. After spending so much time stressing about my outfit it was a pretty stupid thing to forget.

Tomorrow is church, afternoon tea with one batch of friends then a bbq at ours tomorrow night. Being social butterflies while DH is on leave to help me.

AlohaMama · 14/07/2013 18:57

Glad you had a good wedding Sunny, albeit a leaky one! Sounds like lots of you are making the most of the weather. Yesterday might have actually been the first day when it was hotter in England than Hawaii!

For our part we had a nice day yesterday with 10 adults and 6 kids over for a BBQ for dhs birthday. Lovely evening but despite our best efforts to be running down our food and drink supplies ready for moving we've ended up with more booze than when we started.

Almost feel like evie is developing some kind of feeding/sleeping pattern now so might have to think about getting a kind of schedule. Plus have discovered if I can get her to 'bed' by 6/7 before she gets too tired it saves hours of rocking her later. Although we'll see if that holds true tonight!

curlyclaz13 · 14/07/2013 19:28

Was going to start expressing today but can't get my head round sterilising the stuff and oscar is feeding constantly so god knows when I can express. it will be handy once I get it sorted as even though he had two boobs before dinner he had two feeds during and another now straight after. Doesn't matter when we eat it is nearly always the same ! at least OH can feed while I eat if I get this sorted.

Glad the wedding went well leaky boobs aside Smile

rrreow · 14/07/2013 20:23

Bung it in the dishwasher curly!

This weather is just so amazing! Enjoying frequenting the park and having picn

rrreow · 14/07/2013 20:24

Oops. Picnics. And Z is in just a nappy most of the time so I get to show off all the fun nappy covers!

AmIGoingMad · 14/07/2013 20:57

Glad the wedding went well sunny!

Bleedin horseflies- am waiting on a call from out of hours docs. My leg and ankle are now like balloons and my mil who's a nurse and bil (paramedic) think its cellulitis. Grrrr!

They've just rung with appt for this evening.

curlyclaz13 · 14/07/2013 21:01

rrreow not sure OH would appreciate a breast pump and bottle inserted into him Grin

AlohaMama · 15/07/2013 01:21

AmI sounds horrible, hope it's not cellulitis and that it calms down soon. As if the pain of the bit itself isn't bad enough.

curly I have to admit, it took me about a week from when I first planned to pump to actually find the time to find the pump, sterilise and have a moment to sit down and do it. Now I need to find the bottles, sterilise those and actually give one to her!

rreow well done for being in cloth already. I realised all of mine are still to big and I dont' want to buy more for just this time. Plus it's going to take too much space in our luggage to take them with us when we first move to England, so we're waiting to start with cloth for her once our shipping arrives. If I'm lucky maybe by then ds will be potty trained and I only have 1 baby in cloth to deal with!

SunnyL · 15/07/2013 06:54

Aloha we're the same. Our cloth nappies are for 4kg and up so we're on disposable at the mooment which is totally ruining my environmentalist reputation. At thhe rate she is putting on weight though it wont be long til we are in cloth too.

learnermummy · 15/07/2013 09:20

Glad the wedding went well Sunny Grin.

How's everyone getting on with their prams? Anna keeps screaming in our pram on every school run Hmm. Don't know if she's just hot, just miserable, or hates the pram! She's happier in carrier but its just too hit for that! Feel like all school mums must think she's really whingy Hmm.

pinkbear82 · 15/07/2013 10:46

Learner - I'm lucky Violet seems to love her pram, but when she is in it, it has to be moving. If I stop she becomes unsettled and starts crying, keep it moving, even if on the spot and she's fine.
Only other problem I get is the changing bag slipping and putting the break on as we're going along!!

My mum had been staying since we came home from hospital, and she finally went home yesterday - I love her dearly and am very grateful for her help and time, but it was getting to that point where you just grate on each other and everything starts being said in a snappy manner.

Got our almost 6 weeks check up today at the doctors, and at the moment I have an almost 6 week old daughter that will not sleep unless she's on me. She falls asleep on me, I put her in her basket and she wakes up and won't resettle. Even tho there is some serious eye rubbing going on! Think the second lot of washing will have to wait to be hung out.

rrreow · 15/07/2013 11:19

We had a poosplosion in our bed the other day when Z was wearing a disposable (due toDH complaining that cloth takes too long to put on in the night). Up & out the back, on the covers etc at which point I decided to ditch them once and for all! I have size 1 cloth which admittedly is very convenient, although Z is a bit of a tubser and also already fits into most of the BTP stuff we have. I love how you don't have to faff with a paper liner and getting rid if the poo, so much easier than DS1s nappies!

Grin curly about the dishwasher

I love our pram but we haven't actually used it yet!! We have lots of stairs so the sling is just always more convenient and less effort.

massagegirl · 15/07/2013 13:08

Pinkbear Thea is the same she starts the night on her bed nest at 11ish when her dad puts her down then when she wakes up and has a feed she'll only sleep on me until the morning. Anyone have any tips or is it still too early days?!
She will go in her pram if she's had formula to

massagegirl · 15/07/2013 13:09

Top up and is full! Breast milk seems to satisfy her at home but if we need to go out I have to time the formula, it's like a military operation!

Hawkmoth · 15/07/2013 13:19

Just picked up some half price sleeping bags from sainsbury's. Think you can use them from nine pounds, though obviously not in this bloody weather. DD is a kicker and can't keep any covers on, DS was the same so I'm really chuffed with these bargains.

Less chuffed that she screamed all the way home. Ten minutes. It made my boobs prickly!

curlyclaz13 · 15/07/2013 14:02

Thankfully Oscar seems to like his pram and sleeps there during the day.
I want to use cloth nappies but not sure where to start and have not got the money to keep buying different types to find ones that suit. Confused

SunnyL · 15/07/2013 14:57

Curly in our area Changeworks do roadshows of cloth nappies. You can also rent them from the council. Have a look at the Changeworks website and see if they do anything useful in your area.

Can I ask a Q about pigmentation. In the last 2 weeks of pregnancy I got the dark line from my belly button. Now 4 weeks after giving birth and the inside of my belly button is still blackish. When will it go away and I'll stop feeling like a leper? I've still got some pigmentation on my face but I quite like it as it looks like I've got a great suntan!
