Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

DD has sticky eye too - they recommend saline drops here in Australia so am using those to clean it. Acne as well - DH calls it their "awkward" (as in teenager) phase as both our older kids had the same phase!

I prepare formula the cooled boiled water at room temp and add powder as you go way. I understand there is a risk from this but think it is minimal. I don't know how I could make up feeds as I go along, DD screams blue murder with no warning.

Olimoss - brings back nice memories thinking of you going to Australia with your DS. We went with our first DC when she was 8 weeks old and had a lovely time.

pinkapples · 11/07/2013 14:51

Has devil child today! 4 weeks today and Theiah has only slept 1.5hrs since 8.50 this morning cue tired mummy!

curlyclaz13 · 11/07/2013 15:50

We have been to the bf group today, only one other mum there but it was nice to get out, Oscar slept the whole time until I put him in the pram to leave. I think we will go again just so I do something social !

Hawkmoth · 11/07/2013 16:26

I've been out of the house! Took Bobbie to be registered and went to tesco as well. I am not totally wiped out, think I have turned a corner.

They have some nice stuff in the sale in tesco. Got a lovely blue romper and they have various sleepsuits, we got three for three pounds, in primary colours which I've not seen before. Sadly DS got into an "I WANT" feedback loop and I shouted at him in the freezer aisle. Grr.

Sarah2506 · 11/07/2013 16:58

I have been sat on the same park bench for nearly an hour feeding the small girl. Every time I think we are done she yells out to passers by 'these people are starving me'. I think I may have to sleep here.

AmIGoingMad · 11/07/2013 17:49

Ha! They do have a way of making us look like we're attempting murder don't they! I just had that while changing her nappy.

I'm like a drip and forgot to ask about the formula. I think the adding the formula to boiling water, cooling and keeping in the fridge makes most sense to me as you're then killing of the bacteria in the milk before storing? That's my thought anyway but it looks like the only consistent advice is to make up as we go along which isn't the most practical!

AmIGoingMad · 11/07/2013 17:50

Well done to those managing to venture out. I also have to take my hat off to those who are managing a school run at this stage- you are superwomen!

MrsBri · 11/07/2013 19:04

I've been out too. We went to Preston to Mothercare as I had £90 of vouchers to spend. Which we did. Plus £67!

We got loads of clothes up to 9 months in the sale. She has more clothes than I do now :-/ And the Next sale starts on Sat, so I will have to get stuff from there too!

pinkapples · 11/07/2013 19:56

Had devil child today! And also I think my stitches have dissolved and not healed rude! May have to have this checked out at the 6 week check in 3 weeks

pinkbear82 · 11/07/2013 21:21

T'other pink, I'd maybe get it checked sooner if I was you - don't want an infection getting in.

Sarah - hope you've managed to move off the bench!!

I have decided I need to stop online shopping during night feeds! Post man turned up today with 4 large items - I could only remember ordering two of them Blush

Have decided when out with violet to use expressed milk, we are in the car a lot with DP and bf her then just isn't practical and having the bottled milk means I can settle her quicker and not stress so much.

She had her last dose of antibiotics today so feel another corner is being turned. She is currently in her crib having a wriggle, content and happy which is much better than she had been.

pinkapples · 11/07/2013 21:48

Yea might phone I keep checking it every day and it looks clean enough just I'm quite sure it should have closed mind you, I don't know what it looked like after the event so not sure whether its better or the same Shock think ill phone tomorrow just to be safe also think I may have piles oh the joys! Screaming baby and a body not cooperating fan bloody tastic

AmIGoingMad · 11/07/2013 21:50

Great news that violet is doing so well Pinkbear Smile

Impressive shopping trip too mrsbri!

AmIGoingMad · 11/07/2013 21:54

Aw pinkapples sounds like you're having quite a day. I agree that its worth checking out even if they just say that's normal at this point. It'll put your mind at ease at least and be once less thing to think about.

MadameJ · 11/07/2013 22:14

Quick question ladies......how long do you usually bleed for, im 3 weeks in and still appear to be bleeding a fair bit??

Olimoss · 11/07/2013 22:22

Madame - I saw Dr for my 6-week check today. I'm still bleeding. She wasn't overly concerned but said it was at the upper end f nral and to come back if I was still going on with it in another couple of weeks.

I was Csection.

I'm too scared to look at my stitches and piles, pink! Not sure what to expect... Are you still feeling uncomfortable?

Steffanoid · 11/07/2013 22:42

Ethan has had a busy 2 days, went to visit my work colleagues yesterday, and had 2 of my oldest friends visit today, so glad they could come, they've been ill so it was the first time they met him, his great aunty is coming this weekend and one of my best friends is finally back today/tomorrow from the other side of the world, she's been gone 14 months and I actually cannot wait to see her

not much else to report here other than Ethan is the worlds best farter, I think it has something to do with the fact im terrible at burping him, he merrily sleeps tooting away, every now and again he lifts his leg or you can see him strain, I can't believe im admitting this but its actually rather humerous

MadameJ · 11/07/2013 22:48

Thanks Oli thats good to know x

MrsBri · 11/07/2013 23:41

That is good to know, Oli, as I'm still bleeding too. Not a lot, but enough to be annoying.

Pink, I'd definitely get your (lack of) stitches looked at if I were you. Three weeks is a bit long to wait.

Steff, Amy farts like a trooper! It's very loud, explosive and hilarious!

I bled for about 2-3 weeks with fresh blood, then it tapered off, now has pretty much stopped (at 4.5 wks), just very light/pale brown.

sunbeam I know what you mean. I did look and was moderately horrified! But then it all looked horrendous before the event anyway with everything bulging and now I'm not sure what 'normal' is!

I think we are past the honeymoon newborn period here - after 4 wks of Evie just eating and and falling straight back to sleep after, she is now getting harder to settle. Took 2 hrs last night of rocking/swaying, during which time she'd fall asleep pretty quick with minimal/no crying but then as soon as I'd put her down, she'd wake up again. Cue, more rocking/swaying. I think we did the whole thing 4 times before she actually stayed asleep. Trying to get her to take a dummy but she keeps spitting it out as if it's gagging her. Still I know she's not being too bad, but I feel like she lulled me into a false sense of security at the beginning!

On a more positive note, ds is with childminder today so I have easier day. Went clothes shopping with E in a carrier, and she stayed asleep while I put her on the floor of the changing room. Not a very successful trip although I did buy 1 pr of skinny jeans and 2 nice tops. I'm trying to update my autumn/winter wardrobe as I've not bought any warm clothes in 5 years. Still helluva lot easier with just a baby than a baby and toddler!

SunnyL · 12/07/2013 07:24

Hello all we've also had a busy couple of days. We headed south to visit the in-laws on Lily's first trip to england. There was a lot of 'pass the baby' and i did my best to sit on my hands and let others try and settle her. She appears to love her Grandpa, Aunty and Great Grandpa but her poor grandma had a tough time (DHs mother) as she cried almost every time she held her. Think it really upset her so instead she just sat next to whoever was holding her.

I get on very well with my inlaws and they were very good at insisting i get to eat my whole dinner in peace while they cuddled the baby. Felt like a real human being!

MadameJ · 12/07/2013 07:53

Ummmm colic has kicked in here, very tired mummy and baby and a full day planned:-(

learnermummy · 12/07/2013 09:17

Oh dear Madame, hope day improves for you.

After having spent another school run with Anna screaming all the way there and then me holding her and pushing empty pram all way home I've decided to use the carrier in future! Can't blame her for not enjoying school run!!

Still bleeding here at 2 and a bit weeks. It did stop at 10 days but then started again annoyingly. Am also now on second week of piles treatment. If no improvement TMI warning have to go get it lanced next week which sounds horrid!!
