As we have all our gorgeous babies now, welcome aboad the 5th Gemini bus.

Drinks and previously banned foods supplied in bulk, Car seats installed, slings and prams at the ready, as we head into parenthood, and all the excitement, and sleepless nights our little ones will bring along the way.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

bring we did that with DS1. We kept him in nappies but whenever we noticed he was about to go we whisked him off to the loo & praised him when he went. It got to the point where he'd strain whenever we put him on the toilet even if he didn't need to poo. Then it went a little while where we didn't catch it in time & now we're lucky if he does a wee. He just seems to have forgotten what to do! He does love sitting on his 'special seat' though! Hmm Not sure if we'll try it with DS2 - he's more of a stealth-pooer than DS1 was! We didn't start with DS1 until after he started solids at 4 months though so maybe it'd be different if we'd started earlier.

Anyone know where I can buy a lentil-loom? Wink

AGnu · 24/07/2013 18:11

Oh, don't hold her over a bowl, change her on a mat on the floor next to the toilet & just hold her over it mid-change. Much easier when you can just flush it away. Don't make more washing up for yourself!

FrussoHathor · 24/07/2013 18:19

agnu I agree it should be taught in schools. Native bsl signers/ those with deaf parents, learn from birth. Same as speaking to them from birth. Babies begin to absorb language from the 1st moment, with eye contact, touch, and conversational skills when you/they copy sticking tongues out and smiling. You just add the signing in too.

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2013 19:09

Lol at size 1 nappies pear, dd is in 2 but I've already bought 3 to use when this pack finishes, you could probably skip 2 and go straight to 3 I'm sure they are from 10lb, they are really not in the early sizes long
Bring get that travel cot out, you must be knackered! The potty thing is good if you can tell when they are doing it, at the moment baby a isn't great as she won't have one for days then explodes! We always put the kids on the potty from when they could sit though, my dsis two both do pretty much all poos on the potty and have from 9 months odd, my dd1 is still resisting!
We did the sign for more and food with dd1 but she never got it, she started talking well though really early and already speaks fluent sentences now, I think she thought why waste my time with that when I can tell you, likewise why waste my time sat on the potty when I can just poo in my nappy Confused

FrussoHathor · 24/07/2013 19:42

I'm staying in size 2 as long as possible as they areas much cheaper than size 3.

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2013 20:35

I've found the opposite frus that's why I've bought 3's they are both pampers but the 3's are 9p each and 2's are 12p, believe me I really shop around lol

FrussoHathor · 24/07/2013 20:43

I'm using the tescos newborn ones. And they are way cheaper. But not shopped around for 3s yet refusal to let ds get bigger

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2013 21:16

I've never tried tescos own, from what I've heard off others though aldi is very good but there's work out at 9p aswell, i like pampers the most but I only buy then if they are in a really good offer, I've found for whatever resin size 3 is the cheepest of all in pampers, no idea why but I think that's the size dd1 was in for the longest, I'm sure it was a year whereas the others have been a few months, under 10p a nappy is what i aim for!
I know what you mean about then growing up though, dd2 is pretty much at the end of up to 3months now Hmm I want her to stay this small forever

FrussoHathor · 24/07/2013 23:07

Tescos is 7.7p per nappy at size 2. The own brand nappies are okay, but its about finding the ones that work for you and are the right fit for baby. And different sizes in the same brand can also have different fit.

Noooo kitten (baby kitty doesn't sound right) you can't grow up. I'm may be refusing size 3 nappies but we're into 3-6 clothes already. Mainly for length and foot size.

Ooh baby frus has cold fingers. I thought it was milk dripping, but no, it's his cold little fingers.
And hes started getting angry at my forceful letdown, he's started pulling off and grumbling everytime it is self-flowing, and he grins at me when I moan about it going everywhere.

AGnu · 25/07/2013 00:42

We use Tesco nappies too. Used to use Pampers but thought we'd give Tesco's a go & they're perfectly acceptable! Nappies are nappies as far as I'm concerned! As long as they're not leaking or giving the DC nappy rash then they'll do!

DS2 is still in size 1 & newborn clothes but that's mostly because he's not often in any clothes at the moment! Grin I put him in a super thin 0-3 month sleepsuit from America so probably an odd size! Wink today & his ridiculously long arms meant that the sleeves stopped nearer his elbows than his wrists! I'll try him in some sleepsuits that I'm more familiar with the sizes once the weather's cooled down a bit more but I suspect I won't be squeezing him into any newborn things with long arms or feet! Sad He's definitely getting chunkier.

He was having a lovely smiley chat with me earlier until DH came & sat down next to me. DS2 took one look at DH, pouted & cried instantly! Grin I nearly wet myself laughing! Blush Even better was when DH left & I got smiles again! Given how much of a Daddy's boy DS1 was I'm feeling rather smug pleased that I'm DS2's favourite! He's my favourite too today. He's never climbed over the back of a chair & moved all the pens from the pen-pot into a vase & then proceeded to knock said vase & several ornaments over & then have the audacity to expect comforting when he falls over!

peardrop2 · 25/07/2013 01:55

Hah hah look at all the nappy chatter I've started Smile I'm surprised none of you have mentioned Asda's own brand. Apparently they're very good!

bringonthetrumpets · 25/07/2013 03:19

agnu (I keep wanting to call you your old name!) the clothes over here are oddly sized (baby and adult, urgh!). Newborn fit M for about a week, and now she's growing out of the size 0-3 which I think are more like the newborn size over there, and the 3-6 American size is more like 0-3 Uk size. MIL sent over some really cute girl clothes sized 3-6 and they won't fit her for a loooooong time. Also good tip about changing her near the toilet. I don't think I could even try to coordinate things with two psycho boys running around and asking questions and holding her little bum over the toilet at the same time. I'll have to wait to start until they are back in school in the autumn.

Hahahah! I think it's hilarious on your Ds's reaction to your DH! M gives smiles to her daddy, I think she's just starting early at getting him wrapped around her tiny finger. He is so completely smitten with her. It's very cute to see. Makes my heart melt.

I may have just chugged a beer on an empty stomach Blush. Jeeeeeze, feeling tipsy is suddenly so fun again! Grin No worries, I've already fed the wee one (who is sleeping on me, right, b/c where else would she sleep?).

kittykatsforever · 25/07/2013 03:35

Bring I've had a beer while feeding Smile < bad parent alert> sometimes this hot weather just demands itWink
Don't think ill get a chance to try the tesco nappies as rarely go there but if I get a chance ill give them a whirl, I don't mind what I use aslong as they work but always found that the pampers are best at newborn, I tried a few different ones with dd1 but they leaked all the time ( particulally huggies) however when she was bigger they were absolutely fine, it seemed to be more of a tiny baby thing but mine do have very skinny legs
Really peed off with dh for a change he has been feeding kitten for the last few nights her 7 o'clock bottle ( we've discovered she has more of a preference for tommy tipper bottles now spoilt) and he's only managed to get her to have 1 and a half oz aparently he just cannot keep her awake bla bla bla but she's now been waking at 1/2 instead of her usual 3/4 which is causing her to wake twice or ruin my lie in! Bloody men

FrussoHathor · 25/07/2013 07:11

pear no different to tescos. But boots own are just wrong simply for the fact that the pattern is on the back not the front. Confused

AGnu · 25/07/2013 10:17

pear we're obviously all far too naice to shop in Asda! Wink I may have got excited when DH told me they're building one within everyday-shopping distance!

Frus DH was most put out when we trialled pampers baby dry for MN rather than our usual activefit because the pattern wasn't symmetrical so he struggled to know how to centralise the sticky tabs! Grin OCD!

bring I keep expecting to see my old name! I like my new one though so I don't think I'll be going back. Don't mind if you keep using the old one if it's easier! Smile
I'm glad you've told me about the clothes. DH has several cousins in America/Canada so I suspect we'll be getting quite a few things in the years to come! It's a good thing I tried it on him now - he won't fit in it much longer!

kitty teach your DH all the nappy changing/toe tickling techniques to keep babies awake for feeding. Write down a checklist for him & only once he's tried everything on the list is he allowed to leave kitten to sleep. Or tell him you'll be waking him up every time kitten disturbs you... I bet he'd suddenly manage to feed the whole bottle after a night or 2 like that! Wink or tip any un-fed milk into his pillow & make him use it... Too mean?!

All this talk of alcohol is not a good idea right before I'm about to attempt my first solo shop with the 2 DSs! I've been dying to try making rhubarb vodka to mix with ginger beer. Vodka is sooo expensive though! I'll have to check if they've got any deals on yet. I'm trying to hold out for the bank holiday - there's usually a sale on alcohol before a bank holiday! I want to make some everlasting vanilla essence for my mum for Christmas so I'll need to buy vodka at some point! & then soak some rhubarb in some just to check it's ok. Can't go giving DM a present made with dodgy vodka, can I?! Wink

FrussoHathor · 25/07/2013 15:17

agnu I'm glad you told me about the pattern so I can avoid the baby dry ones. also have a problem with unsymmetrical patterns and tabs.

bringonthetrumpets · 25/07/2013 15:23

Praise da LAWD M slept on her belly from 10:30-5! Mama finally got some sleep and sweet smiles from M at 5 when she wanted to nurse (and then fell back to sleep until 7:30!). Feeling like a whole new woman today.

LOL agnu!! Agreed. I think kitty should accidentally on purpose fling a pillow at her Dh (oops Dh, I didn't see you there) every time kitten is wailing and see how quickly he gets the idea. Wink.

Oh poor, poor, poor frus. I saw the pictures. Oh lady, I am sending you hugs and patience energy your way.

Librarina · 25/07/2013 17:11

Oh FFS, I think I have another blep. Left nipple is stinging again. I'm never going to be able to leave the house without a sock filled with warm rice shoved down my bra. Taking Lecithin grains to declog myself and will dose self up with painkillers to get through the night.

FrussoHathor · 25/07/2013 17:45

Oh no lib I hope you've caught it in time.

Grin thanks bring at least it was my mascara and not permanent marker pen. been there done that I though I was safe, but noooooo dd has discovered she can now reach my bathroom cabinet by standing on the loo! I need to buy a lock. I mean who has to lock away tampons and makeup?

kittykatsforever · 25/07/2013 18:03

Yeay for sleep bring, sounds like just what the doctor ordered! Why I'd our bus filled with tummy tots?
Good idea about waking him up although he's that deep a sleep he's managed to stay asleep even when I've hit tapped him, ill have to think of something to torture him with
I love it when I go in in the morning, I get the biggest smiles too, makes up for everything
Frus I've not seen the pics but sounds interesting, l go and gander
Lib Hmm oh no poor you, is it the same one or a new one?

FrussoHathor · 25/07/2013 18:17

kitty it was only mascara today.

FrussoHathor · 25/07/2013 18:18

40days to go.

Librarina · 25/07/2013 20:00

40 days till what!

I think it's a new blep but same nipple. It's either that or latch damage.

Pumping like a mad woman!

FrussoHathor · 25/07/2013 20:03

40days til they go back to school. Grin I love my dds but they are hard work sometimes. And dd2 doesn't cope with the lack of routine that holidays bring.

bringonthetrumpets · 25/07/2013 21:08

I'm counting down with you, Frus It's so nice getting to spend so much time with the older kids, but wow it's just exhausting tending to 3 people's needs before your own.

Oh no Lib!! Thanks hopefully it clears for you quickly!

Putting Crown in my post just because it's shiny and new Grin
